as the official story goes: he got disillusioned and started to work only like 10 hours a day and the others were not having that
The reason he got disillusioned is that he thought Doom was just going to be a boring shooter with nothing else to do.
I think he got disillusioned because they actually were wearing pants.
>they actually were wearing pants.
[citation needed]
He was right. Doom is boring as frick once you've beaten it once.
>(You)
Huh, he was right, but I guess he didn't count on people's shit taste lol
>he thought Doom was just going to be a boring shooter with nothing else to do.
Smart guy. The whole FPS genre gets boring as frick after a few games. The only thing that keeps it alive is narcissists having the compulsive need to dominate others online
The first person perspective is the only way I want to view a game as it is the only immersive perspective, and generally in a video game I'll want a gun to shoot shit with or at least a pipe to swing or something.
It isn't "immersive" outside of VR.
I've never played vr and I don't ever plan to.
We know we know, you are low IQ and probably black, now get back to Ganker
>"only" ten hours a day
Holy shit that's not enough for a wagecuck?
they were insane: they worked about 16-18 hours a day 7 days a week
>He gave us some of the greatest features of fps games
Like what?
Secrets.
And flying monsters. Imagine not wanting those (John Carmack did not)
One of the things that always annoyed me about Tom Hall’s departure was that the rest of the team sort of pretended that he didn’t contribute much of anything, while simultaneously liberally taking from the infamous design document he wrote when they were finishing out the game. I think Doom is as much Tom’s game as everyone else that was on the team.
I don’t blame him for leaving. In his mind, the rest of the team was minimizing every aspect besides fast action, and John Carmack definitely jerked him around a lot by asking him to work on one thing and then going back on that later, such as designing seamless level transitions and hub systems only to be changed to linear levels later. I think Tom came up with a lot of ideas that are now standard in shooters but his contributions were swept under the rug basically.
we all like to think that these people were friends
tom hall is a fricking homosexual.
Okay John
Start watching around minute 8
t. edgelord bugman Adrian Carmack who did nothing before or after doom
>be tom hall
>john carmack hates stories when you love stories
>adrian carmack hates pretty much everything you do
I'd leave to, to be honest. Tom Hall did not fit in with the rest of id.
damn
Tom hall did not work on deus ex though he made a jrpg nobody remembers called anacronox or something
>Tom hall did not work on deus ex
He worked on Deus Ex as a voice actor.
>waaahhh it needs a stooooorrrreeeee
Carmack and Romero sound based. Hall should have joined BioWare writing fan fiction for little French girls.
He was trying to add context to the demon shooting, mostly through environmental storytelling rather than exposition. Even that was something the Id guys didn’t want to pursue, but became standard later in shooters like System Shock and Half Life. What’s your problem?
Im tired of muhfrickas hanging off of Niel druckmans bussy that’s my problem. Carmack was a real homie. Ready to steal CRT monitors for his crew. What the frick you know about that? Hall b***hed out and went full Bussy mode. Lucky all he got was taken off the package
You have no idea how much of a moron you sound like right now.
>his magnum opus, Anachronox barely mentioned
Cringe. The only reason the game flopped is because it came out in the wrong platform, pcgays can't appreciate that kind of games
That's because we already had spreadsheet software on our platform. But seriously, Anachronox was pretty alright.
Is this legit? They really "borrowed" work PCs to develop their first game? That's really cool.
I enjoyed Anachronox even though it was a pretty terrible game in various ways
the characters and story were great
the rpg fights kind of ruin it
as if they were only there to make the game feel longer
yeah, if you have a high tolerance for JRPG nonsense and you also use the patch that provides (among other things) a speedup button so you can zip through the less important battles, then it serves pretty well as a funny interactive movie
JRPG gameplay in the Quake 2 engine is pretty novel.
>Hall suffered a stroke on Tuesday, April 13, 2010. He was in rehabilitation until April 21, when he was released. He was married for eighteen years to Terri Hall, who died on May 2, 2021.
Jesus Christ.
Insider here, romero always stunk up the office bathroom.
>kicked out
he was just the first one to get annoyed of John Carmacks autism and left. Everybody else did the same
That fricking face Carmack is making is hysterical
The true MVP always was and always will be Donna "Id mom" Jackson.
She single-handedly secured the release of Doom by once in a while cracking open a window and making sure some pizzas had veggies on them, and therefore making sure the manchildren survived long enough to release it.
Also she cleaned up after their autistic outbursts and assburger-driven rampages.
He was talented but a bit childish and had no interest in Doom's theme/style. They should have kept him as a mapper though - bes one who would quality control Sandy's stuff.
He's pretty cringe worthy but had some talent. I'm glad they dissed him and his ideas though.
expect they still used his ideas even in Doom3
(for Quake they borrowed his ideas from ROTT)
Romero sucks
