No, Pokemania began independently of the show. I can testify first hand, because my local Fox channel aired the damn show at 2 in the afternoon, so nobody even knew it existed unless they were already into Pokemon. The games were still huge in my middle school.

It was the games, the TCG, and the anime all at once. I was into all three (and PokeSpecial which nobody else knew about), most of my friends were into the games and the cards, but didn't know how to play the TCG until I taught them.

It's funny how the TCG and merch are actually the most lucrative parts of the franchise, not even the games.

I think he meant the distinct plot of the games vs the plot of the TV shows. Due to the explosion of cheap $20 Android devices Ganker has had a mass ESL influx over the past decade.

Puzzle League is legitimately better than any regular Pokemon game

and it shows, considering it wasn't even by post-doujin Game Freak or after Sugimori signed the devil contract.

Puzzle Challenge is the better, more soulful Pokemon version of Panel de Pon.

N64 was full of shovelware, that's what you call every N64 game that wasn't made in house by Nintendo

Pokemania started before the games even left Japan. Nintendo Power was hyping that shit up atleast a year before it came to the west.

The majority of the world would not give a shit about pokemon if not for the show, pokemon WAS the anime and still is it for 90% of normies, the anime carried what would otherwise be a underwhelming RPG for autists on a dying system. It's revisionism to say otherwise

      >revisionism
      How?

Because he's a revisionist zoomer and likely not an American so who cares.

The reality is Pokemon was all three. If you were a gamer between the ages 5 and 10, the games were a huge deal. If you were into cartoons, the anime was a huge deal. If you were into just trends and fads, the card game was a huge deal.

The card game was big because it basically replaced pogs, something most LARPers will be entirely unfamiliar with because you'll notice the first half of the 90s is foreign to them. A lot of people collecting Pokemon cards were solely into it because of that, and they didn't even play the game, they just wanted in on the newest collectible thing such as pogs prior or beanie babies. The games were some of the most popular games, the anime was one of the most popular cartoons, and the TCG was one of the most popular fads.

    Yellow and Puzzle League
Also the anime is SHIT, Pokemon went back to mediocrity once Go brought back a new wave of Pokemaniacs
