Jak 1 was a great platformer with incredible tech for the time but unfairly unremarkable writing and lore and a somewhat bizarre visual style that was torn too hard between western comic book, euroshit and anime style, so it ended up pleasing nobody. Jak 2 is a really fricking good game but its pretty shameless how Naughty Dog was trying to chase the GTA hype. The actual missions are fantastic and hard but the open world aspect was pointless and tedious. Jak 3 is Mad Max kino for the first half then watered down Jak 2 for the second with a moronic ending. Jak X is immaculate and a hidden gem of the PS2's racing library.
It won't ever come back because millenials don't have enough nostalgia for it, despite it selling a ton back in the day. An awkward product of its time and it should remain in the past.
All your opinions come from YouTubers and you get cranky when you try to play old games. It's too janky!!! Waah!!! TikTok save me!!

Did I say they were perfect? No, in fact I criticized the series in many ways, though I still enjoy it. Is that so difficult for your mullato mind to comprehend?
That's just kind of how the big PlayStation franchises from ND and Insomniac operated. Crash and Spyro had a run on PS1 but wound down after that, then Jak and Ratchet went through the same for PS2, followed by Uncharted and Resistance(lol) for PS3.
>Jak X is immaculate and a hidden gem of the PS2's racing library.
Naughty Dog were so weirdly good at racing games.
Nobody who cared for the first game enough to hate on the second like the third game, they went full on hardcore edgy jak with muh gta-lite and need for speed-lite that it sucked the originality out of the series.
Jal 3 had shitty desert missions that literally repeat themselves. You guys love to wank it off but how many times do you have to find those shitty antiques in the sandstorm
It didn't really capture a solid fanbase. First game was kinda behind times, mascot platformers were going out while more mature games started popping up, that's why they they made it more edgy with Jak 2 but it splintered the fanbase. They saw the industry going to more dramatic storytelling rather than bing bing wahoo colorful platforming, so they pandered to the movie audience.
Can confirm both ports are terrific. I played through them both on the Deck and they were perfect. You can make them look exactly like the PS2 originals if you want, or play in perfect widescreen high res with AA and higher FOV. Once Jak 3 comes out, it will make that PS3 HD collection obsolete.
The jak pc ports have made me happier than any gaming news in 15 years.
The absolute state of videogames. But I'm happy to have jak preserved this way and looking better than ever.
I remember reading somewhere that they wanted to be mature now. They said they regretted their past and if they could start over they'd never had made Crash or Jak.
The first game was great and actually tried to set down some interesting worldbuilding with Eco and the Precursors and the locales. But ND being ND just chased trends. Had they went with what Jak TPL was for a trilogy it would've probably been the last hurrah of a genre that was being tossed out for GTA and shooters.
They lost their soul in the process of finishing uncharted 1. It wasn't meant to be the end of their cartoon style franchises, but it turned out that way due to them pushing out their beat writers in favor of Niel Druckman
ND died when they retired Donut Drake because they felt it was too silly for Indiana Jones 2.0 and because it fat shames. Yet they put a guy fricking an actual man in TLOU 2 and expect an Oscar, handed to them personally by Scorsese.
Uncharted 2 was dogshit. Fricking woeful game full of janky shooting, bullet sponge enemies and "Action sequences" where you just held forward and nothing happened. It's an insult to video games by Neil Druckmann
There's not a single good game in this series. It's actually as bad as people believe Tooie or Kong 64 is.

all these words to say you were young when you played it
And when you're older, you'll say the same thing defending Fortnite.
if a better fortnite came out I would play it, I'm not a nostalgic driven moron.

because it wasn't good. just weird trend chasing games that came out too late
Their video games was decompiled and have native PC ports. Jak 1 and 2 both have PC ports.

Jak 2 is out? I might have to try it.

Never had a PS2 and heard they don't emulate well
Time to finally play these games I guess
I remember reading somewhere that they wanted to be mature now. They said they regretted their past and if they could start over they'd never had made Crash or Jak.
>they'd never had made Crash
Their company wouldn't exist then, lol.
>Why was this boring franchise abandoned in favor of boring franchises like Uncharted and The Last of Us?
Naughty Dog's endgame was always making interactive movies. Crash and Jak were just means to get to that goal.
Jak 1 is the only good game in the series and it's shit compared to any Crash game

Uncharted 2 > whatever came after Jak 1
Uncharted 2 was dogshit. Fricking woeful game full of janky shooting, bullet sponge enemies and "Action sequences" where you just held forward and nothing happened. It's an insult to video games by Neil Druckmann
>Janky
Jak always reminded me of a playable adult swim anime, like space dandy or something
