It's a modern remake of Gen 1 shitheel. If you're asking "why don't they target me", it's because you're an adult with an extreme sense of entitlement, addicted to a kiddy IP. Don't like what they do do, tough shit. Go play Gen 3's take for the zillionth time.
And it was phoned in since Gen 2, but the fact you place it on 3 clearly points to that being around the time you turned teen and entered the "pogeymans is fur babbies" phase of life.

I'm a fan of Gen 1, but I wouldn't like a new remake. Since FRLG, Kanto is only used to appeal to the casual audience. That means their products are made with minimal effort on Game Freak's part. Even Capcom doesn't do the same with Street Fighter II.
Ironically we're never going to get a huge quality remake of one of the most important video games in history.

You can play literally any generation on Showdown. Gen 3 competitive is super back right now with the ADV revival tournament. Gen 1 is basically solved like chess, and gen 2 is boring endless stall, but you can play those too if you like.
I don’t get gen 3 competitive being back. It’s so goddamn limited. Wake me up for the gen 6 revival.
