I just realized seviper is supposed to look like it's wearing armor plating on its back and part of its face. I still don't know what those numbs on its stomach are supposed to be maybe they make it easier to choke prey and break bones
The only designs that could be construed as remotely quirky from gen 1 are farfetchd and mr mime.
The vast majority were cool animal/monsters like Arcanine, rhyhorn, scyther, nidoking, Charizard, Jolteon, Gyarados etc or more traditionally cute and cuddly stuff like Jigglypuff and Pikachu.
this has to be the laziest Pokemon in existence. why's it smirking like that? of all the landmarks to make into a Pokemon you choose stone henge and then you just slap a face on a rock. sigilyph is kind of the same concept making a landmark into a Pokemon but they made it into a creature, stonjourner is just stone henge with no changes. I doubt there's any defenders or fans of this thing cause there's nothing to latch onto, there's no personality, there's no spice, it's just a damn rock
I have no idea how you could possibly think this.
Bisharp looks sleek and cool, Kingambit looks like he can't even walk without toppling over and then his moustache blade would get stuck to the ground leaving the rest of his body suspended in the air.
That's kind of the point, he's based on those scumbag samurai/shogun that were glorified mercenaries with political power that just abused their power to randomly cut people down and sit on their asses all day doing frick-all.
>boring and generic knight dude that look like some a random enemy unit in a rts
vs >an unique mix of a shogun, a greatsword and a rhino beetle that look both cool and charming thanks to the pokemon style
It's fine to have goofy mons, but tacking on a goofy mon as the endpoint of what was once a cool mon's evolution line is stupid.
Probopass works cause Nosepass was already goofy.
contrarian for the sake of it, if you actually had a point you would be interesting to talk to but youre just trying to make me chase you around explaining myself over and over like i think you are actually confused and actually are trying to have a discussion about pokemon designs
What do you mean? Im agreeing with you that these gen11+ designs suck because they are ugly and off putting. They just dont look like Pokemans at all...
lets pretend for one (you get one) post that you are actually confused
were there awkward humanoid pokemon in gen 1? yes of course and no one thought differently
but old pokemon designs were more balanced physically, and had less complex concepts as a general trend
new pokemon are weird and ugly ON PURPOSE and dont look anything like the cherry picked examples that you are trying to compare them to
best thing for you to do, assuming you are this character you are playing, is get mr mime and the new mr mime ice type remake and just take a long hard look at them side by side
did you like this post? its the one you are getting
Lol you are so wrong it's funny. This one actually looks like a real thing, it's design is executed well. Now they give things star pupils or whatever those weird eyes blipbug has
I hate this idea that ever design needs a full essay about all the inspirations
Its like the difference between the original starters and new ones, yes charizard is good even if it is a generic dragon
Now you get people defending shit like the fur bait cat because >umm its based off of masquerade balls and it is a jester so that excuses the fact it is just a furry
Everything in the new Pokémon just feels superfluous; they try to play it off like "dw bro it's just funny!" but it's not funny. It's reallynot funny.
Farfetch'd deserved more. Bisharp deserved more - this thing looks like a Deviantart "Mega" design; you know the ones where they clearly didn't know what to do so they just extend certain parts and change the colours of others. It's all just boring, and insulting. Up to gen 5 Pokémon had insanely good quality control; they NEVER shit on previous lines like this.
They should stop doing objectmon like Magnamite and instead make more animal like Pokemon like Maschiff like they used to be in the past, I also hate the trend of making new Pokemon have jobs like Mr Mime.
This new trend has to die, Pokemon have always be nothing more than animals
technically Mr. Mime being... well, a mime, is purely a localization thing.
His name in Japanese is Barrierd, because his main role was putting up light screen and barrier, hence the pose.
At least it's a mime EMBODIED in its purest form and not, like, a duck + a mime, or a cat + a mime, trying to be a job AND furrybait.
Hitmonchan, Alakazam, Voltorb/Electrode, Machamp line
Again, Hitmonchan is boxing EMBODIED. It's why there are 0 other boxing Pokémon; it is the AVATAR of boxing.
Alakazam is a demonic/wizard goat/fox Goetic demon type thing. An avatar of gigabrain wizardry, with elements of psychics.
Voltorb and Electrode are literally just mimics.
Machamp EMBODIES bodybuilding and wrestling. That's why Conkeldurr had to mix the theme with construction, because Machamp already is the AVATAR of wrestling.
Except they fail at that because it only works because they're given the same overworld sprite as items; a Poke Ball
In-universe, items on the ground aren't Poke Balls and Voltorb and Electrode are both much larger than a Poke Ball, so it's impossible for them to actually fool anyone
>Voltorb >it's impossible for them to actually fool anyone >Usually found in power plants. Easily mistaken for a Poké Ball, they have zapped many people. >It is said to camouflage itself as a Poké Ball. It will self-destruct with very little stimulus. >Voltorb was first sighted at a company that manufactures Poké Balls. The link between that sighting and the fact that this Pokémon looks very similar to a Poké Ball remains a mystery. >It bears an uncanny and unexplained resemblance to a Poké Ball. Because it explodes at the slightest shock, even veteran trainers treat it with caution. >It looks just like a Poké Ball. It is dangerous because it may electrocute or explode on touch. >An enigmatic Pokémon that happens to bear a resemblance to a Poké Ball. When excited, it discharges the electric current it has stored in its belly, then lets out a great, uproarious laugh.
> Up to gen 5 Pokémon had insanely good quality control; they NEVER shit on previous lines like this.
i agree completely, they just put whatever shit on the new designs. Please take me back...
I know that you think you're clever, but the difference is this:
the few instances you can flip the argument about gen 1, those are unusual outliers. There is ONLY Mr Mime and Jynx, and ONLY Magnemite as objectmon. What else you got?
The problem is that in modern Pokémon they are not the outlier, they are the norm. ALL THREE starters should not be "animal + job". It's okay for Hitmonchan to have boxing gloves; it makes no fricking sense for Rillaboom to have an entire drum set out of nowhere.
>Crabrawler, the Boxing Pokémon. A Fighting type. Crabrawler is always aiming to be number one. Crabrawler will guard its weak spots with its claws in battle and throw punches, looking for an opening. >the Boxing Pokémon
Yea that I understand. Why does it stay seated at all times. Its wheelchair bound cause of its' hair/armor? It can have that protective body and stand.
they want to redefine what a pokemon can look like

Maybe they should move on from simple fricking geometry then.
this has to be the laziest Pokemon in existence. why's it smirking like that? of all the landmarks to make into a Pokemon you choose stone henge and then you just slap a face on a rock. sigilyph is kind of the same concept making a landmark into a Pokemon but they made it into a creature, stonjourner is just stone henge with no changes. Shellder shoots water at you, it doesn't need to move.
The bisharp line is only chess themed in English. Their Japanese names are just based off samurai.
Yeah I love it when my pokemon get worse and lamer when they evolve
Is that a reference to a human activity in a Pokemon design? That's so heckin quirky and awesome my fellow redditor!

Not nearly as offensive as Ambipom, Lickilicky, Tangrowith, Rhyperior, Magmortar, or Probopass
I actually like probopass. What a goofy looking fellow.
sorry anon, but acording to op you’re not allowed to like a pokemon for any other reason than it looking genericly "cool"
It's fine to have goofy mons, but tacking on a goofy mon as the endpoint of what was once a cool mon's evolution line is stupid.
Probopass works cause Nosepass was already goofy.
>Probopass

i like tangrowth, magmortar, and probopass
Why did this pokemon even need to evolve? Because of Sucker Punch getting nerfed?
This and some of the shitty Gen 4 evos are really just justifications for the existence of the Eviolite item.
>Eviolite

eviolite wasn’t introduced until gen 5
turner mon on the right isn’t much better doe

Random cannons ? Bro it uses them..
Random boxing gloves ? Its a boxing pokemon.
This defined what Pokemon are but ok. You cant use things that have normal proportions as your argument, this thing at least has eyes
You really think anyone ever liked Mr. Mime's design?? lmao the biggest KANTOOOgay would call him ugly you moron
Everyone likes Mr. Mime, only time I ever heard of people disliking him is in these bizarre "it's bad because it's weird" threads.
Lol you are so wrong it's funny. This one actually looks like a real thing, it's design is executed well. Now they give things star pupils or whatever those weird eyes blipbug has
It’s not perfect, but I haven’t seen a better redesign. I just wish they animated it using its legs more.
I hate this idea that ever design needs a full essay about all the inspirations

Sir... you do understand what a mime is, right?
it's not miming there's genuinely a barrier there
yeah the idea of the design is "what if the mime actually did make invisible walls"
This image perfectly sums up the design ideology behind the new games, in previous generations this would not have made it past the early drafts.
I know that you think you're clever, but the difference is this:

Poor Redditor is confused
Kingambit looks like it was going to be in Legends Arceus given the shogun inspiration.
>goofy teeth
holy shit i hate it even more now
Kingambit looks like it was designed as a scrapped Hisuian evolution. It’s the posterchild of all weeb-pandering mons.
Honestly I'd love it if they made the blade mustache a little less comical and didn't make the hair chair a hoverboard.
Frick you I like him. Actually a glow up, And I've been a Bisharpbro since 2010. stay mad
>Glow up
Go back to Instagram.
Well painyard line looked like garbage to begin with so kingambutt is fitting
One of the few fan designs that remembers it's a beetle + samurai and not MUH CHESS.
>beetle
okay nerd, where's the bug typing then
Why did they make it handicapped
It became less humanoid and more insectoid
Kingambit has one of the most clever design of the past decade.
People really has shit taste.
Thats great and all but why is it stuck in a chair. That bug isnt wheelchair bound
The hair serves as the carapace which is part of the bug's body. Even when not attacking its back is still well shielded
Yea that I understand. Why does it stay seated at all times. Its wheelchair bound cause of its' hair/armor? It can have that protective body and stand.
It looks great. I live fact it looks like a beetle when bowing
I like Kingambit.
I honestly didn't like this line until the new evolution.

FTFY
i didn’t care about the design but now that i know he sits on his hair and scoots around i hate it
How the frick does thing even fight when it can't walk
It also lost Bisharp's arm blades
Play the games and you will see how
I did and it doesn't move at all, it just sits there on its hair
It can't move and it traded Bisharp's sleek and practical arm blades for that unwieldy head blade
It gained more arm blades, idiot.
