Modern games are being sold for 70$ and just selling your game at 60$ is enough to have the vast majority of people write it off since it's essentially a lower-quality product. When you think AAA games, you think 70$ masterpieces. The price is higher for a fricking reason.

Okay, since you don't quite follow my thought process, I'll spell it out for you. 70$ is the premium price, 60$ is an AA-title price and the reason why they reduced it to a measly 40$ is because they're desperate. They're desperate to sell copies because of rising inflation harming every facet of the industry. So in order to keep the lights on,, Fromsoftware realizing they haven't sold any copieis, finally reducued it to get anybody at all.
Because you gotta pay your executives a billion each, the marketing of your game 3 times the cost of the actual game, and surpass last game's sales. But since your last game sucked, the only way to do that is to increase the price.

I don't do Souls PVP, but these games do have dedicated PVP communities, and ER peaks at ~50k players, which is insane. Just keep in mind that Souls PVP is basically a simplified fighting game for low-functioning autists.
