I can't see obsidian pulling off a polished first person rpg. It's going to be fun but jank as frick and unfinished like most of their games.

You can't "avoid" your companions, you will always have two of them with you (the rest will wait at your camp) and sometimes you need specific companions to progress in the game. Recruiting them is unavoidable and there is no approval system that makes them call you a butthole and leave the party (basically "don't expect BG3 from this game").

The world is specifically designed to tell "confined stories that the player can experience with their companions", so you don't get to explore and interact with it in the same way you usually play a TES game. For example, you won't be able to "put a bucket in the merchant's head and steal all of his stuff" (example used in another interview). I assume this just means that game will play like Outer Worlds.
Shorter tl;dr: "Outer Worlds with Swords and Wands" is a safer bet than "The Elder Scrolls - New Vegas".

It's been in development since 2018-2019-ish. There's most definitely overlap, if not all of the exact same writers are writing Avowed as well.

Yeah, their overall quality of writing has gone down the pipes ever since Avallone left the company. Not saying he's the sole reason, but the guy's had a hand in a lot of great RPG's storylines.
