This could also be a sort of “immersion therapy” for those who are dealing with depression, trauma or PTSD. It’s an opportunity to work out that “social muscle” in a way that is low-risk. I can only speak for myself, but I spent my childhood/teenage years being abused by a woman, and so I entered adulthood with an involuntary discomfort around women. I've written this quite a few times now, but current AI, despite how impressive it is, has inherent limitations. It's just fancy predictive text, and all of the avatars and generated voices and so on they keep slapping onto it won't change that fact. Throwing more processing power at it or refining the model further does nothing to grow beyond or circumvent those limitations. These AI models, characters, etc. don't "know" anything. If you ask it what one plus one is, it will tell you two, but not because it actually conceptualizes the idea that if you have one thing and another thing, you have two things; it just has enough fancy statistics running behind it that it calculates 'two' as the most human/correct answer to give.
When an AI model "hallucinates", as in, makes up false information, that's not really different from anything it does at any other time. It's always "hallucinating", even when it gives you correct information. It just lacks any ability to fact check or even consider the things it tells you, because all it is is a pile of statistics. Until AI models can have true knowledge and perspective, which would be another massive leap on the same scale as the advent of ChatGPT and other LLMs, they're not going to be anything more than novel chatbots.

AI will naturally be able to provide stimulating iterations on it that will be tailored to the satisfaction of the end user and more exciting than their own fantasies. You and I were born in time to see the machine condition eclipse the human condition.

I feel that the internet has conditioned people to have a very narrow range of interests and understanding. For me, over coming soft spoken habits started with raising my voice really high before I could find the appropriate volume and habitually hit that immediately.
