There are a lot of points against it regarding respect for the players time, and whatever maybe those are good points, but the effect of it was being able to play each spec in several different ways. Horror stories about metagays are greatly exaggerated, there are tons of top rated players doing off meta builds and I myself was getting to 2500 io on 2 characters each patch doing off meta builds to great success. That’s all I really want out of a system personally, customizable playstyles that work well for the player that understands the mechanics of what they are doing. I am also a huge Ion fan while I’m at it, it takes an elitist jerk to know how to make content good, virtually all of wows flaws can be attributed to the writing team.

It is themed off of Ardenweld, a spiritual forest afterlife. So it makes sense based off of shadowlands, but not moving forward.
How does continuity work in wow anyway? Was the player character involved in everything up until now even though the player didn't necessarily do it? They're the speaker of the horde due to their many achievements for example even though they just exited exile's reach which was their first adventure. If so, even if a character never entered the shadowlands they would still have adventured there and learned from the night fae and some of their residual power lets you use their skills?

They had a chance to make a clear break (since SL was the end of a 20 year old saga beginning with WC3) and start a new story where continuity matters but they just kept going with the same story anyway.

That's generally how they do it. Although, it doesn't make sense for new characters, since they get ping-ponged between various expansions and areas while leveling. You can start off as a Nightborne in Battle of Azeroth, then you're off to Mists of Pandaria in the distant past, then you're suddenly farting around in Cataclysm trying to protect the world tree, then you're trying to address the threat of Illidan in Shadowmoon Valley, then you witness the events of the ill fated Wrathgate assault.
tl;dr: the continuity is fricked up and presumes both you and your player character already know what happened up until now.

Blizzard has played fast and loose with their lore more and more as the years went on.
It was at its worst in BFA where Sylvanas had 5 seperate motivations for starting the war depending on which patch you came in on.

I'd like to think no, but I tought the same after BfA and then Shadowlands happened. Never underestimate the incompentece of current Blizzard.

It'll probably be "okay" just because Shadowlands was garbage and because people will have lower expectations, but I wouldn't underestimate Blizzdrones, they will prob praise the expansion for adding shit that was asked years ago

I have no doubt Blizz will find a way to outdo themselves and make Dragonflight even worse somehow
Even if it is, who cares? Dragon flight mechanic is a ripoff of Guild Wars 2 in a game that isn't as good as Guild Wars 2. Horizontal progression>vertical progression.

WoW will never feel the same again because of basic human psychology. It's a nearly 20 year old experience. You're never getting that feeling back and worse yet- your memory has distorted it into something it never was in the first place. This is why the entertainment industry is one of the biggest industries on the planet and always has been. Because the other 7.9 billion people on the planet are able to grow the frick up and move on to the next thing.
