Funny thing is a lot of people have the impression that localizers know Japanese fluently enough to translate. This isn't true and is the reason why they get paid so little. Most companies have an inhouse translator. A real translator that does a direct translation. The localizers then edit that script.

Frick memorizing thousands of different characters. Shit language. For nip vidya, just use Textractor++ to extract text, then translate using DeepL/Sugoi Translator V3, wrap the text, then inject it back into the game. I refuse to learn Japanese.

Translator++ is dogshit and won't save you if you're working on games which make heavy use of text-images or easy-to-break scripting. When it comes to translating RPG Maker games, you're better off using a combination of simpler tools, plus knowing the ins and outs of the maker itself plus the scripting languages employed by them.

Machine translation can be highly accurate and just as good as human translators with short statements, a sentence or two, and some paragraphs or whatever. A machine translated novel though? That being said, Google Translate (for Japanese at least) is fricking horrid and for some reason wrong most of the time. Not sure how they fricked it up that badly, but it's beyond saving.

You'll gradually start recognizing them. Don't just do decks and reps. That's the main thing people do wrong. Play and consume.

No. The problem lies within context. An AI can never 100% accurately translate what you're trying to convey because it's not keeping track of the entire conversation.
Some things just don't translate well either. Basically you need a giant neural network AI keeping track of your conversations, but would you want it to?

Slowly but surely they aren’t even censoring anything, a few releases recently started to avoid mentioning gender and writing things about how sexual abuse is bad or people of color are important or something. As much garbage as it is, people wanting reasonable things like niches are losing and dying out.
Machine translation will be just as or more efficient than human brains. I'm sure that makes the weeaboos seethe that my phone can do something in fraction of a second that they have unsuccessfully worked for decades to do.

No. Realistically machine translation should work in tandem with localisation as in you plop it into a translator and then forge it into something that makes sense.
Of course that would require localisation teams with standards.

Real translators are busy translating actually important documents for good pay. Leaving video games with only the rare passionate enthusiast and, more commonly, the failed writer shoved into the position through nepotism and cliques.
Or even worse, the failed "artists" who couldn't crack writing as an author, so now they need to turn their translations into "creative" works.

Neural nets are able to do art stuff that were thought impossible, and generate voices now. It can absolutely do translation with nuance soon no problem.
