Genshin starting with Mondstadt gave it more of a international feel a lot of people could relate to. Sure they went to Liyue next, but they had the sense to hit not-japan in quick succession. For Star Rail they started with a sterile, colorless space station to start. Felt like running through the halls of a hospital. And where do you go from there? A fricking ice planet. You get a momentary relief...but its in a damn cave. And when you finally get clear of all that and hope to go someplace interesting you land in...not-China town where everyone is constantly saying how backward you are and how advanced they are but they still need you to do their fetch quests.
It just doesn't feel well thought out. It feels like they're trying to do something different, but too much change from the winning formula will probably turn too many people away. I think at this point people are now looking ahead to ZZZ instead.
