I think Mavel and Whedon-writing ruined a bunch of writers by thinking that every character being a bunch of quip machines with no dramatic tension ever is good writing
I think GoT ruined another generation of writers by instilling the idea that subverting expectations and "r-realism" is also good writing.
Some of that shit is necessary for a believable and immersive medieval society, you don't have to show it directly or celebrate it, you can even make combating it the goal of the game, or use old fashioned idealized sensibilities, but dressing up modern sensibilities with some castles and elves is not enough.
LOTR is the anti-GOT and it's more raw and rustic than most modern fantasy games.
