Will Zelda games ever go back to how they were before Breath of the Wild?

Will Zelda games ever go back to how they were before Breath of the Wild? I'm slowly coming to terms with the fact that there will never be another good 2D Zelda after Link Between Worlds but with how much BOTW has taken the stage, I don't see them going back to the classic 3D formula either. What do you think?

Maybe. BotW's fans are such ardent morons that even Nintendo couldn't possibly court them for more than a decade. Their supposed requirements for the "perfect game" wouldn't even describe BotW2 at this point.

I don't even want the "perfect" game. I just want a good game that goes away from BOTW. I really liked BOTW but it feels so shallow now. I'm really hoping a game will come along that will capture some key aspects of games like Ocarina etc the way that Odyssey did Mario 64.

      >gets cucked by her own creator
      >forced to watch half a dozen links come and go
      >latest link treats her like shit
      >meets ganon for the first time post-ss retcons
      >he either breaks her legs or her neck depending on what the blade corresponds to
      >probably still alive, probably in agony
Might as well call her Saria 2 because Nintendo seems to enjoy her suffering.

BotW is my favorite Zelda game, and I've played every mainline game since the original on the NES.

Me too. And I like BotW as well, but it's done now. It came out five years ago. As soon as BotW2 has run its course, a whole ass fricking decade will have passed. And unless 2 does a whole lot of shit different, this will be a very tiring decade.

Take your ADHD meds. Good games don't "run a course" they just are eternally.

You don't measure how "done" something is by how long it's been but rather how many times it has been used.

This, look at how many times the OoT/lttp formula was used. It was done by the time of TP let alone by ALBW.

It took a whopping 5 years for Skyward Sword to come out it’s not exactly abnormal. And that game wasn’t even open world.

Are 2D Zeldas dead? Of course now, Grezzo just did Links Awakening in 2019
        >but thats a remake
It was still built from the ground up and after BOTW no less.

But consider the fact that even ALBW geared towards more nonlinear design.

I don't think they should go back. I think they should change it up again and do something totally different from botw and the old OOT style games. I say this as someone whos fav games are OOT and MM.

Nah, it's dead. Just like how 2D Mario died and turned into endless NSMB trash.

NSMB is no different than the originals.

      >but muh gwaphics!
No one who likes games cares.

No, they won't. Twilight Princess was considered too much like OOT, so you homosexuals shat all over it even though that game was great. We haven't gotten another traditional zelda since then. You reap what you sow. You WILL climb the tower and you WILL be happy.

They will 100% do another 2D game in the future, regardless of BOTW's long term influence. Only problem is, I'm worried it will just be a low effort filler game to fill a release gap.

Your best bet is a smaller studio pitching a classic formula 3D Zelda to Nintendo and getting the go-ahead or people making romhacks and mods for OoT now that the game has been decompiled and the PC port is slowly improving
2D Zelda is legitimately dead though, they won't touch those again outside of remakes

I dunno why you are assuming botw2 will be the same as botw1. Zelda is like the one series Nintendo actually accepts fan feedback on. It will probably be a game that mixes elements of the old OOT/MM/WW/TP style games with BOTW style. I honestly wouldnt even be surprised if its not a fully open world game anymore like botw1. It could be more linear and structured.

Zelda hasn't been "good" since the N6R so idk why you're worrying about it. It's been nearly 3 decades, it's tulike to move on.

botw is the best zelda game and it's not even a competition, i didn't know how good it was until i played it myself

No the N64 Zelda games are better

Go back and play the 64 games on an actual 64 and tell me that again. Ocarina of Time 3DS > OoT 64. It's not quite as clear cut with Majora's Mask, but with the fan mods to fix all the changes the 3DS version comes out on top again.

I dont care that much. Both the N64 and 3ds versions are equal to me

Suit yourself. I can't go back to the brutally ugly and objectively more annoying to control 64 versions after playing the 3DS remakes.

Hopefully OoT3D gets ported to the Switch. I know it's a port machine but I don't care. It'd be dope.

I played it too. It was okay, admirable for a first shot at a brand new gameplay style, but not all that good.

I played BotW through twice and I'd rank it below Zelda 2, tbh.
