You've been brain-rotted by Nintendo levels of handheld sales, we're talking about a porta-PC that's mainly available through mail order, runs on Linux, is a company's first "serious" hardware venture, and for a long time was stuck in preorder limbo

It doesn't help their japan xenophobia has gotten so bad that even japanese indies would rather go through the trouble of putting their games up for switch or just using itch.io than doing it through steam.

Perhaps the sheer force of my homosexualry will rewrite reality and cause Steam to vanish from computers the world over
>no Bluetooth, you have to buy new PlayStation Link compatible headsets >no local play, not even media playback >no PS5 cloud streaming >targeting same battery life as DualSense controllers (<4 hours)
The point is that this device has literally a single purpose and can only be used in conjunction with another $400-500 piece of equipment
This is as moronic as PS VR2. The idea that adding another $200-400 peripheral on top of that will be in any way desirable is insane because it's hard enough for most people to fricking get a PS5
It's so you can play your PS5 while taking a shit and your hamplanet wife hogs the TV to watch whatever fotm reality TV trash is on.
You can't use it to play streamed games from a service, you literally can only use it to play your own PS5 and your own PS5 games over a wi-fi connection.
>Teased in May, the Portal is essentially a PS5 controller (touchpad, haptics and all) split down the middle with an 8-inch, 1080p LCD. It plays any game your PS5 has at 60 FPS by streaming the image over wi-fi, though already-streaming games via PS Now and VR ones are not supported. And of course you can’t play on the train or a long flight.
DOA
I'll be honest, I did a lot of off screen playing with my wii u. Either someone else wanted the TV, or it was just comfier playing in bed with the laptop streaming beside me.
If it were actually just the PSP2 or vita2 they still have their reputation with japan burnt down to shit.
Even compile heart which was one of their most loyal lapdogs packed their bags and are re-releasing everything on the switch, uncensored.
When they lose square you know it's truly fricking over, and they already have one foot out of the door when the exclusivity deals are gone.
>to bait people into thinking it's a portable PS5
You know what, I am very curious how they're going to handle the messaging of this PS Portal because I really do think casuals will think it's a handheld able to play PS5 digital games right off the bat
They're trying to sell people on the PSP brand. That's what this is. A legal scam because everyone will think it's a PSP successor. Playstation portal sounds close enough to Playstation portable especially for non English speaking people.
People don't leave their home anymore but want to play in the bathroom or bedroom. They timed it almost perfectly with the next wave of covid restrictions so I guess it's gonna sell a bit.
>makes your $70 already fragile controller with shite battery life even more of a fragile battery vampire for the low low price of $100
Nothing personnel kid
How is an TV dock for a portable console in anyway comparable to a fricking piece of shit device that only works in the same house the PS5 is in, moron-kun?
It doesn't even do remote play over the internet unlike the PSP, Vita, or the existing remote play phone app
I'm pretty sure that was only for certain games because the PS3 wasn't powerful enough to stream all of them.
Either way, you still had a separate console to play with. This is just a Wii U gamepad with an absurd price tag.
I know you're joking, but deck already has this feature. Hell you can even use it to play locally with a buddy. Hate that consoles make a big fuss out of features that don't even bother to get marketed and people take for granted on PC. Frickin neanderthals.
The wii u flopped because it was shit. It had a bad controller, terrible online, you had rebuy virtual console games and games too forever to launch for some stupid reason. The only "positive" was miiverse (social media integration is cancer regardless of how many ebin screenshots get spammed on Ganker).
>bad controller
switch and wii controllers are hot dogshit too, non-factor >terrible online
nintendo online has never been good >you had to rebuy virtual console games
yeah this was shit but now you're renting games for $20 or $50 a year, non-factor
the u wasn't a good console or anything but if a combination of bad controllers, terrible online and israeli game practices was what it took to kill it, the wii and switch would have sunk with it too
NTA but the WiiU controllers was waay worse. It only came with that tablet. At least the Switch joy cons have the adapter and the Wii had the nunchuck and Wiimote that felt a little better.
The big difference is the Switch is a handheld. Nintendo handhelds always dominate and Sony didn't release a competitor so Nintendo only has to compete with emulation machines and the steam deck.
$300 or less you could buy any number of chink handhelds that can play roms and stream using moonlight, $400 is enough for a Steam Deck which is still infinitely better than a fricking Wii U gamepad
Just shows how out of touch those californian shitters are
>hey the Switch is killing us - we need to get those customers back >maybe they stopped buying Playstation cause everyone wants to play games in a handheld mode! >genius! let's make a gamepad which plays PS5 games! >but that would be very expensive! >yeah thats why we will make it a streaming device that only works close to your PS5! >this will definitely get us the japanese audience back!
>Functionally ban almost all JRPGs and anything "too anime". >All while promoting trannoid movie games. >Raise the prices of both the console itself, subscription and extra controllers sky high. >Make it a pain in the ass to use (controller battery life, etc). >Murder the vita mercilessly in cold blood, which was a beloved console. >When that's not enough apply even more pressure on JP devs to censor everything as much as possible, even things that don't have to be censored. >Actively antagonize JP devs even when they bend over and comply. >All while still promoting trannoid content. >But somehow it's the portability the reason why we are hemorrhaging the japanese market to switch.
It's telling they fail to realize their blatant xenophobia and love for trannoids is the problem.
nudity alone wont make a game a rated.
only graphically expilist things will and pretty much everything in the bg3 is fade to black.
even the ogre scene is considered non explicit since you dont actually see the body parts bumping.
homie, PlayStation was losing the Japanese market long before they became an American brand, the PS3 sales where half of the PS1 and the PSP sold as good ONLY because of Monster Hunter.
They knew they didn't have anything to appeal to Japan so they bailed out.
Their Japanese first party games didn't even do well in japan and still did far better in the west. This is as far back on the PS1 where this was happening. The japanese loved Sony's third party games, but never really rose to the occasion to buy their first party games.
That's it. I'm calling bullshit. Just WHAT the frick kind of leverage/blackmail does Jim Ryan have on Sony's leadership? There's no way otherwise that his ass shouldn't be out the door by the end of summer after helping the FTC bungle the fight against the Microsoft-ABK merger and turned it from a decent possibility into a lethal certainty. On top of how he's also torpedoed the platform and their goodwill in Japan.
Not according to their data, they've been outselling it on the NPD charts routinely and their customer base in the US own both a PS5 and the Switch for the majority.
If they can't play it on the train it's a dead device. The only use case is people that want to play games while their kids or partner watch TV and want to sit on the couch next to them. But phones can already do remote play so you have to REALLY want the haptics and meme triggers to go with this device instead.
This is the type of slop that only brain rotten Amerimutt weebs will slurp up because they think it will make them seem more Japanese to the friends they don't actually have.
100%. When they have to sell it for the same price or less than a Dualsense I might pick one up though but $200 for that thing can frick off. 0 chance I'd ever buy that over the Edge, which also needs a price drop for me to ever consider it.
>surely they can do it too but better
lol. lmao even
but its not even a portable console/device like those two are, its literally just a mirror device that you NEED to buy a ps5 in the first place to even work
don't forget, its nearly the same price as a new switch
And the Wii U gamepad only works if I have a Wii U. What's the problem? If I were to get a PS5 which I will get once they're hackeable then I will consider getting this trainwreck too
https://i.imgur.com/hJFkoNS.jpg
ITS ACTUALLY JHAPPENING
assuming that it works like a Wii U gamepad and not like a shitty streaming device
Frick, why the hell can't I use the gamepad on the PC too? I want to play porn games while in bed
>I want to play porn games while in bed
I always found this stuff weird, is it something exclusive to americans? Just put a TV in the bedroom, it's like your console it's stuck to the couch setup.
>If I were to get a PS5 which I will get once they're hackeable
just build a pc, they are bleeding exclusives out the anus and the only ones they still have are worthless goyslop
>the Wii U gamepad only works if I have a Wii U. What's the problem
The problem, my stupid friend, is that the WiiU gamepad came with the fricking WiiU for the price of two hundred ninety nine ewe ess dollars. This hunk of shit costs as much as a Switch by itself, AND you need a four hundred dollar console to run it. Hope that clears up your confusion.
That's literally a WiiU and the WiiU fricking bombed.
Why do you expect this to succeed when the PS5 unironically has less exclusives than the fricking WiiU?
Just wanna say the PSPgo was amazing but people weren't ready for a digital only system at the time. Was the only person I knew who actually bought one
>people weren't ready for a digital only system at the time
mostly because almost the entire market for potential adopters were people that already owned psps and had a collection of physical games, plus nobody wanted to shell out for sony's proprietary memory cards
After years of them forcing the situation on people who did not want it. People were pissed when Steam came out. The console market is also way different than the PC market and you're not gonna have parents happy when they buy a cardboard card for a download code for their kids compared to a game with a disk inside.
Again, they didn't. It took years before people stopped complaining about CSS and I think it was HL2 forcing people into their ecosystem. Even now people lament that PC physical copies are just an install disk for Steam and a code, sometimes not even an install disk.
I only knew one kid on the school that own one, and we bullied him because it was digital only and the design was ugly, imagine being bullied by a bunch of nerds back then, lmao
I'd do what they're doing with the PC games and the Steam Deck. Have teams that port PS5 games to work on the new device instead, that way they can compete with the Switch in Japan.
So what happens when this piece of shit gets stick drift? Imagine if it had drift right out of the box, that happened to one of my PS4 controllers (new not used).
>nintendo makes wii u >years of ridicule >sony makes a wii u attachment that costs 300 dollars on top of the 500 dollar console they're selling >OH MY HECKIN SCIENCE EPIC
All this moron had to do was greenlight a PSVITA2 and lure in companies to make exclusives of it, and chase after the Switch audience in Japan.
No, instead we have an obvious flop and a play at your bed machine for 200 dollaridoos. What a lack of judgement.
A pretty significant factor in the Vita's failure in Japan was the lack of a Monster Hunter game, which was in large part because of the system's graphical power representing a leap the MH team didn't want to take, so they frittered off over to the 3DS
I did the same thing on a 2DS, I had kind of a right-handed claw going. I hated every second of it but 4U was my first MonHun game and I got to G-rank that way. Also beat The End nonlethally with the janky control scheme on MGS 3D.
that would be an actually good business decision
we can't have that, we need more GRAPHIX we need more movie game goyslop
remember to buy the 300 bucks portal pro version, the same turd but with a touchscreen
A vita 2 would do terrible. Sony's first party titles when they came to portables were often terrible spinoffs are lukewarm prequels. They didn't hold the same esteem as the main console entries.
The only way a true portable is happening is if they can shrink the base ps5 down to be portable size, but then you run into cost. They could do it now but it would likely be higher in price than steamdeck and nobody would buy.
You already have VR games and PS5, a third platform would split them even thinner and you're back to the PS3 days of having mostly crap for first party exclusives.
So instead you get this optional tablet and some of their games coming to mobile as a middle ground.
>ps3go >or some other equally cringe name, as is expected of snoy >literally just a handheld that plays ps3 games >digital only, if you own the physical game already you get a 90% discount on it or whatever
There, it would sell at least ten times more than this abomination + digital sales
>And the PS3 really isn't in demand outside of vocal minorities.
i wonder what could have caused that
it's not like they treat the people that would have it in demand like shit or anything
it's not like people would rather dump money at the PS3 and vita emulators to play those games than actually buy the fricking consoles or anything
Of course it's not "in demand", the people who would demand it just play on their old ps3 or emulate it. Maybe even have a sort of rebate system instead, where you send in your physical game and get that game digitally for a few bucks to pay for shipping and other costs, shareholders would coom to the idea of removing old stock from consumers hands and them owning nothing instead.
I think it should be worth mentioning that according to Sony, Japan is very big into the higher PS+ tiers and use the PS5 to play older games and stream PS3 games. Japan has actually gotten heavily into God of War this way by playing it on the service. So much so it's garnered a following.
>according to Sony >Even with massive frickings of the data they still have to admit almost none of them actually play anything released since the PS4. >This is also likely after removing JRPGs from the data pool because trails of arise alone would mog god of soi and the entire first party library combined.
>goyslop and ironic weeb slop
yeah you're just proving the point, only westoid approved turds are allowed to be shown, otherwise more anime JRPGs would humiliate their movie games

Those games they're showing are from 2011 because that was the most popular year played, there were not a whole lot of PS3 RPGs that were good until well after that year.

Japs are going to love it all right. Love shitting on it as proof sony is continuing to move away from Japan. This product is for Americans with big houses. Not tiny jap boxes.
I would not buy it simply because the joystick seems to be a one piece with the screen. given how shit PS4/5 controller durability is I would not trust sony with this shit.
I have a PS5 but I don't see the point of this. The reasons are
>what if the main TV is being used?
Buy a smaller one. There are small TVs for this price. >what if I'm outside?
Good luck finding WiFi that's good enough for this when you're out and about. I can play my Switch on a plane, I can't do that with this.
It also doesm't have bluetooth, so you need wired headphones or Sony's BS PlayLink or whatever.
>Buy a smaller one. There are small TVs for this price.
And plug in all the cables. And relocate the console every time you want to switch TVs. Why not get something more useful that also comes with a controller?
>people here say they buy handhelds just to play comfily in their bed >but local streaming is... le bad
Local streaming is dogshit unless it has the Wii U's god tier latency
That takes a few mins my guy. I literally do that when I want to play in bad. This thing is way too limited in it's use cases to be worth $200. With another TV I can also do a bunch of other things. There are even phone controller cases for less and you can stream PS5 games on a phone already.
>and you can stream PS5 games on a phone already.
And like I said before: >Local streaming is dogshit unless it has the Wii U's god tier latency
I tried the Vita's remote play feature once on the PS4 and that shit was beyond abysmal. Phones are most likely just as garbage
Regardless, a Wii U style gamepad is way better than getting a second TV. It takes virtually no space and all you do is turn on the gamepad. Only reason why you wouldn't want this shit is if you're a poorgay. It's a cool optional accessory if you've got money to burn
I could it, I'm just sure I would never use it. If you would that's fine, but you're in a small minority. I'm pretty sure the phone one is the same shit too, it's PS5 Remote Play. You can view your console home screen and everything just like this. Maybe it's a little worse, but if you're at home I doubt it's a big difference. I'd rather buy a smaller TV and spend 10 or 15 mins moving my PS5. Bigger screen too.
Having money doesn't mean this product is a good idea to most people.
If wifi 6 is good enough to almost perfectly stream VR games and not make you sick, I don't see how it would struggle with flat games.
This thing needs to be 50 dollars and needs to come with a 40 dollar rebate or something. 200 is just too much, who spends $200 on a controller?
I can understand dropping that much on a LE Zelda joycon but this isn't limited edition or branded witha popular franchise.
You're paying for the force feedback and other haptics, it's amazing if used correctly.
What I don't get is why people are dumping money on a deck to play it only inside when they could use their phone with steam link and a cheap controller.
No one wants a handheld that onlu is good for playing on the toilet or in bed. The use cases are too limited. Yes, you use it wherever there's WiFI, but most public networks will be too shit for this.
There are a ton of multiple handheld devices that run Windows/Linux/Android that can use remote play AND also run other stuff. This runs 0 applications locally. You can get a Retroid Pocket 3+ that costs $120 that can run Remote Play and you can also play PS1/PS2/PSP games on it and other consoles too, a PSVita runs PSVita and PSP and PS1 games while also letting you use remote play. This thing should at the very least have a store and a way to let you play PS1/PS2/PSP/PSVita through emulation or natively that you buy or already own digitally, if the PSP could run PS1 games in 2004, why wouldn't this 19 years later at $199? Absolutely ridiculous considering a Switch Lite also costs $199 and runs things like The Witcher 3 and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, when modded a Switch can also use remote play and runs PS1 and PSP games, this thing doesn't even run Doom or Pong or anything by itself, I don't get it how people find this reasonably priced, it should cost like $89, it's just a screen, buttons and wifi adapter, specs wise it's as powerful as an old first generation Chromecast. I am absolutely devastated reading people saying that this is a good deal and that it's evan cheap, that they thought that it would cost $350 or something, are they moronic?
I can stream my pc over my phone

Has the power to play (most of) its games portably regardless of internet. >Playstation Quantum (that's absolutely what it's gonna be, and they're gonna brag about some patented nothingburger "Quantum Connection Technology" or some kind of bullshit like that; screencap this)
Has no power of its own and is beholden to having a console in proximity to work, barring an unreasonable clickbait setup to get a PS5 powered up to a portable power source. Now go in the corner and have yourself a nice cry over MUH HIPPO CRAZIES. You've earned it.
I own a PS5 and a Switch. I use Switch in dockmode mostly because small screens suck. I only use it handheld on planes and you can do that with this thing.
Maybe this product would make if it sense if you want your kids to stfu and want to watch TV.
>my kids don't even play switch in docked mode they'd rather have the tiny screen close tot heir face I really think mobile gaming like this is going to overtake consoles before this gen ends
Yeah, you know what else the Switch has?
Nintendo games, games that are designed at least with some portability or a small screen in mind
what games would your kids play on the ps5? the only ones I can think of are astro playroom, sackboy a big adventure and peppa pig
at least with the switch they have a lot of games that the vast majority of kids can play because they are not "mature" games, and the obvious one is that they can take the console with them if they go on vacation
Consoles used to have quirks and soul, the sega saturn was completely different from the playstation. Now they are all the same machine with a different coat of paint. I blame the PS2.
If the Switch couldn't play any games of its own. And its entire functionality relied upon the use of another several times more expensive product. That is actully the product with all the value. Then yeah the Switch would be complete garbage all the same.
But the Switch is actually its own system. With its own games. And this Project Q thing is not.
I was so mad that Jedi Survivor still runs like shit. I had to lower the difficulty because the stuttering fricked up the combat encounters. The game doesn't even look good. TLOU2 on PS4 looks better.
there isn't any audience they want, they don't understand the industry. japanese companies roundly just do not get it in regards to hardware. look at the PS5 itself. an embarrassment
It's actually comical how badly every single big corp wants this to happen. Even after Stadia flopped as hard as it did, this idea of streaming games will never go away.
it's because they can overcharge the frick for games while simultaneously barring all lost revenue from used sales. the fact that people are lining up to buy consoles without disc drives should tell you that it's already over.
>arguing semantics.
it streams games from a server to the device
it is fricking worthless. do not buy it. do not entertain the notion that this is viable for gaming.
>no bluetooth so you can't use wireless headphones >It can't run games natively like the switch or steam deck, so you can only use it at home or where you have your PS5 nearby >it doesn't even have 3G, 4G or 5G mobile connection, so cloud gaming or accessing your PS5 remotely is a big no-no >he believes japan will love it
moron
>tfw you can just buy a Backbone One (PlayStation Edition) for your iOS or Android smartphone for literally half of the price... or even something that looks identical like a BSP-D6 for even less if you want...
Chiaki makes it so all of these 3rd party controllers work just fine when remote playing PS4 and PS5 on your smartphone so what's the point of this device?
>it just has to be Sony's proprietary BS Playstation Link enabled headphones
and I thought Nintendo was more like Apple >but I doubt most WiFi networks will good enough
most people use 5ghz networks which are fast, but the problem is that they have a short range, and nobody will buy wi-fi extenders just to use ps portal outside the house
I mean like in the public WiFi will suck for it despite them saying that it's playable outside the home. Like you can't play this in an airport or at a cafe or something.
I was reading a bit about Remote Play and you can play from other networks like Steam Link and others, but the network has to be stable, and as you say it will be weird that people connect to the wifi at the airport or mcdonalds, it will suck
the other way is to use your phone as a wifi hotspot, and that would vary, but not everyone knows how that works.
True, but if people even have hotspot with their phone plan they probably have a limit.

>dumb down population >keep forcing cloud gaming down every new generation's throat until they are dumb enough to think it's a good idea
devilish. the people in charge of this world really enjoy playing the long game
Surely they have a business plan? They can't design something this moronic if their was absolutely no market for it, they most definitely did a market analysis before announcing it, right?
As an MBA, I can say that you'd be surprised how stupid some execs are. A lot of products are pet projecgs made to get the owner a promotion because that's only way to get promoted. That's why so many tech products fail and get shelved.
They are thinking as luxury brand / life style, at first it will sell and honestly there is no way creating it and producing that was any expensive on the R&D department.
I unironically like it, the idea of walking around the house playing handheld vidya is comfy. I don’t play vidya elsewhere, so this feels like a good fit for me who enjoys the handheld ergonomics (not sure why, maybe nostalgia)
>What SNOY wants me to do:
"Play" the Spider-Man 2 movie/game, where half of your adventure will be with a FRICKING Black person they're trying to replace Peter Parker with, all the while he has to deal with slimy black suit and a 50yo ugly and bossy MJ because women aren't allowed to be sexy for their men, and you'll do it on the PlayStation Portal with laggy remote play and always online!
>What I'll actually do
PLAY a proper Spider-Man 2 for PS1, following up on Neversoft's classic, where MJ is a hot and good wife for Peter Parker, no Black folk in sight, as it should be, awesome X-Men cast to help, no fingers on hands to make punching enemies easier, using an old smartphone that was collecting dust, and a cheap CHINK controller I got for 1/20th of this thing's price...
P.S. Instead of a boring UI/HUD with no way to customize it, for the sake of being modern of something, I get to look at my customized Android start screen with Saber and other Anime Girls on every screen. I still don't get it why you can't even pick a wallpaper on PS5, it's a joke how they want everyone's stuff to look the same nowadays.
it's fricking asinine companies are desperate to push cloud gaming, but they realized actually running the cloud systems themselves is too expensive so they are making the goys use their own console as cloud server
and it's not even across the internet, but wlan only
what the frick is wrong with snoy and the rest of the westoids
>buy $200 1080p 60 fps ps5 streaming only device >spend another $200 on the only earbuds compatible with this device >all on top of the $500 you already spent on a ps5
Or
>download PS app on phone >connect dualsense(tm) to phone via Bluetooth >connect headphones to phone via Bluetooth >no added cost since you'd already own these things such as a dualsense if you want ps5 streaming in the first place
It's become more and more noticeable that Sony have either got rid of their entire product strategy team or hired a bunch of morons. Because nobody with a fricking braincell can see this product as being good at all.
Even if you want the full handheld experience a backbone controller for phones costs $99. And you can play using 5G or whatever (though it'll prob suck) and not just WiFi.
PlayStation Move all over again. Sony needs to stop trying to copy Nintendo. Most Nintendo games are only on their system, but for Xbox and PS, those games are also on windows so a steam deck already makes this thing obsolete
>It's a mother fricking wii u.
Nah, Wii U can be played offline, and doesn't need to be connected to a router. Wii U also doesn't need another console.
Do you think Sony will turn into modern Sega if even Spider-Man flops?
It's one bad decision after another and they fricking killed their own Japanese game dev team already.
Team Asobi is still around and has a game in production, Xdev works in Japan with Koei to have Rise of the Ronin out in Quarter 1 of 2024, Polyphony Digital is making a new GT Sequel.
They didn't kill their japanese game division they just reorganized the division you only became aware of when youtube videos started coming out.
They're putting out a gravity Rush movie, they making PS2 and PS3 emulation a thing so the rest of the ape escape games can come out on PS5, it's not something they've discarded. if shit like Ape Academy and On The Loose are already out on PS5 you know they're throwing the kitchen sink at any back catalogue title they can get their hands on.
Now this is cope. Spider-Man 2 probably the most anticipated video game ever in the Western markets. If you think that it's going to "flop" then you are fricking delusional.
I was ready to just disregard this as e-waste, but there was one thing that peaked my interest.
Something called Playstation Link, and it's the main way the device connects to your PS5. If remote play on this thing is as good as the wuu U, then this may be worth it on a sale.
$200 is where I felt that this was the max this could cost, and it still feels a bit steep. $125-$150 would have made me think about a purchase after seeing reviews.
You only say that now, but wait until Scott he Woz puts out a video on it. People will be proclaiming PSVR to be revolutionary and the secondary market prices will be jacked sky fricking high just like what happened with the Vita and PS3. I have around 40 games for the system and collecting has been dirt cheap.
I think they said once that they wanted to be the nike of gaming. they won't go as far as apple to sell a "way of life" (even if they are trying they aren't trying that hard yet) but they are content enough in selling "luxury" products for brand enthusiasts for now
>I think they said once that they wanted to be the nike of gaming >they are content enough in selling "luxury" products for brand enthusiasts for now
Yup, as soon as I saw the PS5 Black folkhoes I knew they were turning Playstation into a fricking designer brand.
This IGN article states that it is indeed wifi only, but it doesn't have to be the same network as the PS5. So you can play anywhere. Latency could become worse when far away.
https://www.ign.com/articles/playstation-portal-hands-on-with-sonys-new-remote-play-handheld
You know that you can also be a stupid person with a lot of money, don't you?
the typical example of someone with a lot of money here is that he spends for whatever without measuring himself
>"PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house." >actual, factual, same sales pitch as the fricking Wii U >$200 on top of the actual PS5
Hilarious
They can't turn it into a cinematic over-the-shoulder third person action game, and they also can't turn it into a GAAS money drain, but hey, maybe some cameos in a future VR Astrobot tech demo will satisfy you
What I have learnt about streaming, from my 4090. >NVIDIA gets streaming right because the newer GPUs has special hardware to encode and capture directly from frame buffer bypassing CPU therefore lower latency >NVIDIA has dlss and frame gen as well >android has awful wifi and decoding latency, x64 is faster at decoding and lower latency wifi speeds >2.4ghz ang 5ghz is saturated can cause instabilities >60ghz wigig need a direct line of site and fans to keep it cool >cloud gaming via internet sucks dick
I really don't know how Sony is going to pull it off with a AMD APU. Sony are experts with colour and visual stuff, so at least the screen can look good and the controller is directly connected to the screen.
The truth is that Sony never actually recovered from the PS3 fiasco, they were continually shit but Microsoft and Nintendo became ubershit at damn near the same time and suddenly shitty Sony didn't seem that bad. They literally coasted to victory all of last gen courtesy of Don Mattrick and Nintendo's marketing department.
Trying to be cool and flippant as they were to the competition in the 90's, but never realized that people were still interested in PS alternatives other than Nintendo. The fact that so many would still rather stand by Nintendo and Xbox is just a testament to how shitty Sony was all along.
The truth is that Sony never actually recovered from the PS3 fiasco, they were continually shit but Microsoft and Nintendo became ubershit at damn near the same time and suddenly shitty Sony didn't seem that bad. I bought 4 PSVitas and a PSTV launch day, I am LITERALLY the moron they market to with this shit and I'm not getting this. Why the frick would I trust Sony to make a Remote play only console, the Vita lagged like shit, and even if it does work, the Vita was 200 with games, this is 200 with a cheap Chinese tablet glued into a sawed in half DualSense.
this could be a million times better if they just had a cloud service where you could stream from, and if you have a ps5 you have the option to sync it with what's in the cloud
Can't wait
major flop.
Hopefully it does. Need to get one on sale
Yeah, looks like it.
Was the steam console a success?
Steam Deck's selling insanely well yeah, they hit around a million sales purely through their online ordering thing.
that was awhile ago and have not mentioned their numbers since
A million handhelds sold is really fricking good by any metric imo
not really
You've been brain-rotted by Nintendo levels of handheld sales, we're talking about a porta-PC that's mainly available through mail order, runs on Linux, is a company's first "serious" hardware venture, and for a long time was stuck in preorder limbo
one million and the radio silence is not good
you can infer pretty easily it's still selling since they're offering up refurb units now
Deck sales are good, for a very niche device but that's about it. In no way it's sales are "really fricking good by any metric".
>yes, but no
have a nice day
Vita was a failure at 16mil
Sony also attempts to be a loss-leader on their hardware, and between the proprietary storage and inability to put out any software at all past the first couple of years, they couldn't make up the difference
Sony is a massive corporation with an insane amount of money. Valve isn't small by any means but they're significantly smaller than a giant like Sony.
no they really aren't, sony almost went bankrupt like 10 years ago
it doesn't matter how much money you have if your decisions are not sound. valve will take over a lot of sony's market over the next 10 years
kys tendie
valve is also hemorrhaging users thanks to it's anti-japan policies, so they have all the incentive in the world to pretend their platform and products aren't flopping
>valve is also hemorrhaging users
hahahahahahah no they aren't
> thanks to it's anti-japan policies
ahjhahahahahahahah talking about fricking like 30 max player pedo games getting banned
>BG3 one of most successful games of last 10 years
>Starfield about to come out and have 2.5 million concurrent players
hemorrhaging bad bro, gotta respect those pederast games for pedo losers
actually have a nice day pedo
And the xenophobic westoids drop all pretense.
>BG3 one of most successful games of last 10 years
source?
Anon, dota is a trash fire and CSGO is a shitshow, and this is after the steam console and steam OS were a laughable flop, valve is actually in trouble.
It doesn't help their japan xenophobia has gotten so bad that even japanese indies would rather go through the trouble of putting their games up for switch or just using itch.io than doing it through steam.
bro steam is still synonymous with the PC games market with only a scant few exceptions like GOG, "valve is in trouble" implies that steam is somehow failing and it isn't by any stretch of the imagination
>bro steam is still synonymous with the PC games market
or so the steamgoys keep telling themselves
Perhaps the sheer force of my homosexualry will rewrite reality and cause Steam to vanish from computers the world over
No
>Steam Deck's selling insanely well yeah
lol
>can only order via Steam
>often out if stock
>only available in certain countries
If Valve outsourced the Deck to a real logistics company, it would have no problem selling 10-20 million.
FLOP FLOP FLOP GET DISCONTINUED
heh
I would flop my veiny wiener on your month, homosexual
It's like people don't remember when they tried this exact same dumb shit with the Vita.
even the japs dont give a shit about the ps5, some jank handheld isnt going to change that
>no Bluetooth, you have to buy new PlayStation Link compatible headsets
>no local play, not even media playback
>no PS5 cloud streaming
>targeting same battery life as DualSense controllers (<4 hours)
damn.....
>>no PS5 cloud streaming
?????????????????????????
>he doesn't know
It's not a cloud device. You need to have a PS5, it just mirrors the screen
>Cloud
Your shit taste is most foul. Imagine wanting anything on "the cloud."
>Imagine wanting anything on "the cloud."
That's what Japan wants too moron, it's not for nothing that switch cloud games are also successful there
Bluetooth audio sucks shit, but no cloud streamed games is a massive blunder
Wait, isn't this supposed to be a streaming tablet for the PS5?
Yes, a WiFi one.
DOA
I don't understand what the point of this thing is
I'll be honest, I did a lot of off screen playing with my wii u. Either someone else wanted the TV, or it was just comfier playing in bed with the laptop streaming beside me.
But would never buy this shit separately
That's the one use case that this seems tailor designed for, but like, can't the existing remote play app already do that with your phone/tablet?
This will support dualsense gyro and haptics. That's about it.
for the sir who needs to game but his wife's boyfriend is watching the raiders game on the Sony Bravia
I believe it's money laundering at this point. Why would you create the wii u 10 years after its disastrous release?
to simulate the switch experience
morons dont realize that an actual portable console like the switch would have made people interested
To play FF16 while taking a shit
It copies the Wii U gamepad.
But somehow even worse.
to bait people into thinking it's a portable PS5
>to bait people into thinking it's a portable PS5
You know what, I am very curious how they're going to handle the messaging of this PS Portal because I really do think casuals will think it's a handheld able to play PS5 digital games right off the bat
They're trying to sell people on the PSP brand. That's what this is. A legal scam because everyone will think it's a PSP successor. Playstation portal sounds close enough to Playstation portable especially for non English speaking people.
The true heir to the Wii U, no games and shitty range incuded
People don't leave their home anymore but want to play in the bathroom or bedroom. They timed it almost perfectly with the next wave of covid restrictions so I guess it's gonna sell a bit.
>by streaming the image over wi-fi
Why the frick would anyone want this?
so they made a wii u?
>makes your $70 already fragile controller with shite battery life even more of a fragile battery vampire for the low low price of $100
Nothing personnel kid
it's 240 dollars
HAHAHA ITS EVEN WORSE THAN I THOUGHT
Why spend that much to turn your nogaemstation5 into a bootleg wii u but worse?
>Sony copying Nintendo AGAIN
why
>Sony copying Nintendo AG-ACK
How is an TV dock for a portable console in anyway comparable to a fricking piece of shit device that only works in the same house the PS5 is in, moron-kun?
It doesn't even do remote play over the internet unlike the PSP, Vita, or the existing remote play phone app
*a
I was talking about the Switch, tard
Sony has been doing remote play since the PS3.
I'm pretty sure that was only for certain games because the PS3 wasn't powerful enough to stream all of them.
Either way, you still had a separate console to play with. This is just a Wii U gamepad with an absurd price tag.
>This is just a Wii U gamepad with an absurd price tag.
can it be used by games as a second screen for maps, inventory, etc?
lmfao
that would actually snoy to put in effort
Nope
i liked astro's playroom, cute tech demo
SteamDeck and Switch bros.... we're done for...
I know you're joking, but deck already has this feature. Hell you can even use it to play locally with a buddy. Hate that consoles make a big fuss out of features that don't even bother to get marketed and people take for granted on PC. Frickin neanderthals.
>200 bucks controller with a screen attached to it
The Wii U flopped. Why try it again?
The only thing Sony can do is to copy Nintendo
the wii u flopped because its marketing was ass
It was also just a bad idea. Very few games used the tablet part of it in a meaningful way.
The wii u flopped because it was shit. It had a bad controller, terrible online, you had rebuy virtual console games and games too forever to launch for some stupid reason. The only "positive" was miiverse (social media integration is cancer regardless of how many ebin screenshots get spammed on Ganker).
>bad controller
switch and wii controllers are hot dogshit too, non-factor
>terrible online
nintendo online has never been good
>you had to rebuy virtual console games
yeah this was shit but now you're renting games for $20 or $50 a year, non-factor
the u wasn't a good console or anything but if a combination of bad controllers, terrible online and israeli game practices was what it took to kill it, the wii and switch would have sunk with it too
NTA but the WiiU controllers was waay worse. It only came with that tablet. At least the Switch joy cons have the adapter and the Wii had the nunchuck and Wiimote that felt a little better.
The big difference is the Switch is a handheld. Nintendo handhelds always dominate and Sony didn't release a competitor so Nintendo only has to compete with emulation machines and the steam deck.
you just forgot that those other consoles had games, so people overlooked aspects that they didn't like it
>Worse Wii U gamepad
>winning anything
It's $300 in Japan - the same price as a Switch
It's almost like they ENJOY being humiliated at this point.
$300 or less you could buy any number of chink handhelds that can play roms and stream using moonlight, $400 is enough for a Steam Deck which is still infinitely better than a fricking Wii U gamepad
sony doesn't think aboutr nintendo, they are irrelevant
The FTC trial says otherwise
>sony doesn't think aboutr nintendo
The FTC court case proves otherwise.
>corrupted mutt judge input
irrelevant like nintendo
>implying Sony isn't pissing themselves over the Switch 2's imminent reveal and release
>seething tendie rant
didn't ask
You know I'm right.
Are half of these VR?
>troonypedia mods shilling their troontablet
not surprised
>STOP THE HECKIN' COUNTARINO!!!
>Nintendo has one of the highest grossing movies about one of their biggest IP
>Sony's biggest Playstation IP movie is on track to be a big flop
Likewise.
nintendo didn't make the mario movie, like I said they are irrelevant
>eet does ant count, senor!
lamo
You need to be in range of your PS5 for this shit to work, can't take it on a train to play on the way to school or work
You can pay a couple hundred dollars now to take your ps5 to the shitter... Amazing
Just shows how out of touch those californian shitters are
>hey the Switch is killing us - we need to get those customers back
>maybe they stopped buying Playstation cause everyone wants to play games in a handheld mode!
>genius! let's make a gamepad which plays PS5 games!
>but that would be very expensive!
>yeah thats why we will make it a streaming device that only works close to your PS5!
>this will definitely get us the japanese audience back!
Somehow Sony's investors are okay was this assfrickery.
I just realized if full nudity is in the game why is it not A rated?
nudity alone wont make a game a rated.
only graphically expilist things will and pretty much everything in the bg3 is fade to black.
even the ogre scene is considered non explicit since you dont actually see the body parts bumping.
westoid bias and double standards
homie, PlayStation was losing the Japanese market long before they became an American brand, the PS3 sales where half of the PS1 and the PSP sold as good ONLY because of Monster Hunter.
They knew they didn't have anything to appeal to Japan so they bailed out.
monhun is overrated garbage and japan stopped caring about it once they went pozzled for the casuals with MHW
the rage is apex now
Black person, Rise sold like crack only surpassed by P3rd, World 2 will sell.
Their Japanese first party games didn't even do well in japan and still did far better in the west. This is as far back on the PS1 where this was happening. The japanese loved Sony's third party games, but never really rose to the occasion to buy their first party games.
>beloved console
for you, maybe
I wish baldurs gate was in anime style
i just hope dragons dogma 2 get nudes
>California
rent-free
That's literally where Playstation's HQ is.
>Switch is killing Sony
Not according to their data, they've been outselling it on the NPD charts routinely and their customer base in the US own both a PS5 and the Switch for the majority.
In units or in dollar sales?
it's been both. Even this month it's PS5 being top in units and dollars.
d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-d-doesn't count
I remember the PSvita could remote play over the internet or locally via WLAN or direct connection
What are they smoking?
It needs to be $100 with a direct proprietary wireless connection to the console to be worthwhile
Who is Astro and why is he looking at me like that?
This thing will flop harder than the PSVR2.
100%. When they have to sell it for the same price or less than a Dualsense I might pick one up though but $200 for that thing can frick off. 0 chance I'd ever buy that over the Edge, which also needs a price drop for me to ever consider it.
but the PSVR2 is a success, it sold more than the PSVR1 at launch
And what about now, almost 6 months later?
>can't play on it without being connected to a ps5
It's shit and will flop in Japan. Japs want to play on trains
>japs
>even thinking about doing anything as dishonorable as playing on a train
>the wifey and her boyfriend need the tv for football, so I'm glad I can still spend time with them playing God of War!
i hope some jap sony fans get this and realized you need to be close to your PS5, not being able to pay it on the train.
who asked for this?
Sony executives
I mean the deck is selling and the switch is selling surely they can do it too but better
>surely they can do it too but better
lol. lmao even
but its not even a portable console/device like those two are, its literally just a mirror device that you NEED to buy a ps5 in the first place to even work
don't forget, its nearly the same price as a new switch
>wins Japan
>when they're laughing since the first announcement about how moron this was
literally never happening.
If this is literally the Wii U gamepad then it's awesome
t. homosexual that plays handhelds at home unironically
It only works if you have a PS5
Already flopped
What's the technical role of the ps5? Will the ps5 do the computing?
And the Wii U gamepad only works if I have a Wii U. What's the problem? If I were to get a PS5 which I will get once they're hackeable then I will consider getting this trainwreck too
assuming that it works like a Wii U gamepad and not like a shitty streaming device
Frick, why the hell can't I use the gamepad on the PC too? I want to play porn games while in bed
>I want to play porn games while in bed
I always found this stuff weird, is it something exclusive to americans? Just put a TV in the bedroom, it's like your console it's stuck to the couch setup.
My TV position forces me to bend my neck 90º to look at it while in bed
Buy a wall mount.
>If I were to get a PS5 which I will get once they're hackeable
just build a pc, they are bleeding exclusives out the anus and the only ones they still have are worthless goyslop
>just build a PC
You homosexuals refuse to tell me which GPU is the best one
>the Wii U gamepad only works if I have a Wii U. What's the problem
The problem, my stupid friend, is that the WiiU gamepad came with the fricking WiiU for the price of two hundred ninety nine ewe ess dollars. This hunk of shit costs as much as a Switch by itself, AND you need a four hundred dollar console to run it. Hope that clears up your confusion.
>tendie is a poor mexican
Vita is better in everything.
>A literal android tablet with a split gamepad.
>One analog stick
>Amazing
They design the games for 1 analog. thats a non-issue
The significantly bigger issue was the lack of L2/R2
>people weren't ready for a digital only system at the time
mostly because almost the entire market for potential adopters were people that already owned psps and had a collection of physical games, plus nobody wanted to shell out for sony's proprietary memory cards
I wanted one so badly when they came out, and I keep putting off buying one secondhand. The dock for that thing is unreasonably costly nowadays.
No one wants a digital-only system because a digital-only future is as moronic as it gets.
but muh totally real 80% digital rate! Ignore that the digital-only PS5 only accounts for like 10% of total sales
worked pretty well for steam
After years of them forcing the situation on people who did not want it. People were pissed when Steam came out. The console market is also way different than the PC market and you're not gonna have parents happy when they buy a cardboard card for a download code for their kids compared to a game with a disk inside.
>people who did not want it
I mean they went with it pretty easily
Again, they didn't. It took years before people stopped complaining about CSS and I think it was HL2 forcing people into their ecosystem. Even now people lament that PC physical copies are just an install disk for Steam and a code, sometimes not even an install disk.
I only knew one kid on the school that own one, and we bullied him because it was digital only and the design was ugly, imagine being bullied by a bunch of nerds back then, lmao
>PlayStation Portable
>PlayStation Portal
Even the name is gimped.
What games would you even put on a PSP2? consider that developers still have to support the PS4 and PS5.
I'd do what they're doing with the PC games and the Steam Deck. Have teams that port PS5 games to work on the new device instead, that way they can compete with the Switch in Japan.
seething tendies can't even help but expose thenselves. The PS5 and the PS4 are both better than the Shitch
So is it save to assume that this will at least outsell the Switch for its first few weeks of release in Japan?
You can practically smell the onions just from looking at this.
fricking hell
actual cringe
What a punchable face.
>a cheap tablet slepped inside an overpriced controller
anything above $99 is a fricking scam
shame that we wont be able to track its sales.
No, but you can judge based on how quickly production shuts down.
They literally sawed a DualSense in half and glued a cheap Chinese tablet screen in between.
Correct
>was going to make this joke
>it's not a joke, it's literally what it is
what the frick is wrong with snoy
>Snoy copying Nintendo again
Embarrassing.
So what happens when this piece of shit gets stick drift? Imagine if it had drift right out of the box, that happened to one of my PS4 controllers (new not used).
just buy another one
FRICK THE SWITCH!
Wii U had one frame of latency
If this can match it ill get it. Wii U is 11 fricking years old at this point. This is the bare minimum.
Doubt it connects directly to the console WiFi like Wii U did.
Oh maybe it does. Could that be why it doesn't support streaming?
>nintendo makes wii u
>years of ridicule
>sony makes a wii u attachment that costs 300 dollars on top of the 500 dollar console they're selling
>OH MY HECKIN SCIENCE EPIC
All this moron had to do was greenlight a PSVITA2 and lure in companies to make exclusives of it, and chase after the Switch audience in Japan.
No, instead we have an obvious flop and a play at your bed machine for 200 dollaridoos. What a lack of judgement.
A pretty significant factor in the Vita's failure in Japan was the lack of a Monster Hunter game, which was in large part because of the system's graphical power representing a leap the MH team didn't want to take, so they frittered off over to the 3DS
The vita really was a the worst of both worlds for developers.
Bright side: the return of The Claw for Monster Hunter players on 3DS, unless you had a CPP or a New 3DS
Man I haven't heard the claw in awhile.
i just moved the camera with the touchscreen
was i wrong?
I did the same thing on a 2DS, I had kind of a right-handed claw going. I hated every second of it but 4U was my first MonHun game and I got to G-rank that way. Also beat The End nonlethally with the janky control scheme on MGS 3D.
the PSP didn't have a touch screen, are you thinking of the Vita?
nah, 3ds
Why? The Vita died due to no good MH game, now Monster Hunter is on consoles so when 6 comes to PS5 just use streaming thingy to play.
It's 200 bucks the same price as their pro controller.
what am i missing here?
isnt this just a streaming tablet? literally worse hardware than the switch?
why does this look like one of those shitty fan concepts
That pic has real Hispanic energy
SPHERICAL
Why don't they just make a PSVITA 2 instead of making this abomination?
that would be an actually good business decision
we can't have that, we need more GRAPHIX we need more movie game goyslop
remember to buy the 300 bucks portal pro version, the same turd but with a touchscreen
So instead you get this optional tablet and some of their games coming to mobile as a middle ground.
>ps3go
>or some other equally cringe name, as is expected of snoy
>literally just a handheld that plays ps3 games
>digital only, if you own the physical game already you get a 90% discount on it or whatever
There, it would sell at least ten times more than this abomination + digital sales
PS3 isn't attached to their current storefront. And the PS3 really isn't in demand outside of vocal minorities.
Dammit bros... I bought a PS5 next to my XSX because I fell for the soi of war meme... never again. Frick israeliteny.
I think it should be worth mentioning that according to Sony, Japan is very big into the higher PS+ tiers and use the PS5 to play older games and stream PS3 games. Japan has actually gotten heavily into God of War this way by playing it on the service. So much so it's garnered a following.
>according to Sony
>Even with massive frickings of the data they still have to admit almost none of them actually play anything released since the PS4.
>This is also likely after removing JRPGs from the data pool because trails of arise alone would mog god of soi and the entire first party library combined.
Nope, JRPGs were included
>pic has nothing anime aside from like 2 koei games if you REALLY push the definition
wrong image? you proved the point
So you missed they're offering EDF and Yakuza on there as well as Resident Evil.
Tsushima also probably counts as anime because it's getting a series.
>goyslop and ironic weeb slop
yeah you're just proving the point, only westoid approved turds are allowed to be shown, otherwise more anime JRPGs would humiliate their movie games
Those games they're showing are from 2011 because that was the most popular year played, there were not a whole lot of PS3 RPGs that were good until well after that year.
If you're subbed to the higher tiers you get access to their classics catalogue which contains multiple Ape Escape games, legend of Dragoon, Loco Roco, and many others.
>games from a decade ago are more in demand than their current movie games
the absolute fricking state of snoy
The infographic is from their classics catalogue which is separate from their modern release section. First part is their newer games with the second part being the Classics Catalogue.
whats a non ironic weeb slop
That's interesting, source?
You can't even use this to play ps3 titles from your ps5 cause it eats all your bandwidth that cloud streaming needs to ensure a stable picture.
>connects to ps5 only via local metwork
>can't use it on the train
>can't use it on the bus
>can't use it on break at work
>can't use it at the park
>can't use it at the netcafe
>can use it in the bathroom
Japs are going to love it all right. Love shitting on it as proof sony is continuing to move away from Japan. This product is for Americans with big houses. Not tiny jap boxes.
Sticks drift in your path.
>needs a ps5 to do anything
>200 fricking dollars
DOA
I would not buy it simply because the joystick seems to be a one piece with the screen. given how shit PS4/5 controller durability is I would not trust sony with this shit.
It's literally just a screen and a controller.
The psp and vita had everything this thing had, PLUS they could play natively.
This thing can't even stream games, it's literally just a screen for your ps5, if you don't have a TV.
wait...I thought the whole purpose for this thing was to stream games. wtf is this shit for then?
To play PS5 games on it. It just mirrors your PS5. It's still stupid AF though.
Remember remote play?
How about we make an expensive new product just for that.
The dumb thing is that they have ps now, which has something like 1000 games, yet they just chose to not make it compatible.
Local streaming is dogshit unless it has the Wii U's god tier latency
That takes a few mins my guy. I literally do that when I want to play in bad. This thing is way too limited in it's use cases to be worth $200. With another TV I can also do a bunch of other things. There are even phone controller cases for less and you can stream PS5 games on a phone already.
>and you can stream PS5 games on a phone already.
And like I said before:
>Local streaming is dogshit unless it has the Wii U's god tier latency
You're paying for the force feedback and other haptics, it's amazing if used correctly.
What I don't get is why people are dumping money on a deck to play it only inside when they could use their phone with steam link and a cheap controller.
>people here say they buy handhelds just to play comfily in their bed
>but local streaming is... le bad
No one wants a handheld that onlu is good for playing on the toilet or in bed. The use cases are too limited. Yes, you use it wherever there's WiFI, but most public networks will be too shit for this.
>Yes, you use it wherever there's WiFI, but most public networks will be too shit for this.
Sony is in the process of building infrastructure in 28 countries so people can get better internet connections.
Yes I'm sure that will total work. I like my PS5, but this product is way too niche.
Meanwhile as this vaporware plan is being pitched and probably never truly integrated, they expect you to buy this trash.
This thing needs to be 50 dollars and needs to come with a 40 dollar rebate or something. 200 is just too much, who spends $200 on a controller?
I can understand dropping that much on a LE Zelda joycon but this isn't limited edition or branded witha popular franchise.
Mobile phones killed handheld gaming.
Manchilds need to accept this.
And no, switch didn't sell millions because it's a handheld hybrid.
>*wins Japan*
it's cute that yo uthink that
They shaped it like a boomerang because they know people will try to throw it away as soon as they get one
SOULLESS
I can stream my pc over my phone
Steam decks make more sense than this garbage
I wish it was a stand alone console, but is just an accesory that nobody asked
6 months ago
>my kids don't even play switch in docked mode they'd rather have the tiny screen close tot heir face I really think mobile gaming like this is going to overtake consoles before this gen ends
>steamdeck is so amazing I can now /comfy/ in my bed or chair wrapped in blankets
whatever that playstation shit is named gets announced
>loooooool what's the target audience
>why would I ever want to use this thing
The hypocrisy from everyone involved is so funny now go back to playing on KB+M like a normal human beings you fricking homosexuals
shit b8 m8 I r8 0/8
>Switch
Has the power to play its games portably regardless of internet.
>Steam Deck
Has the power to play (most of) its games portably regardless of internet.
>Playstation Quantum (that's absolutely what it's gonna be, and they're gonna brag about some patented nothingburger "Quantum Connection Technology" or some kind of bullshit like that; screencap this)
Has no power of its own and is beholden to having a console in proximity to work, barring an unreasonable clickbait setup to get a PS5 powered up to a portable power source. Now go in the corner and have yourself a nice cry over MUH HIPPO CRAZIES. You've earned it.
>Switch
>Has the power to play its games portably regardless of internet.
shitch has no game
oink oink
Go back to your cave, Eric.
Quantum also plays games regardless of the internet but you forgot to mention it
doesn't it need wifi since it has no bluetooth?
I own a PS5 and a Switch. I use Switch in dockmode mostly because small screens suck. I only use it handheld on planes and you can do that with this thing.
Maybe this product would make if it sense if you want your kids to stfu and want to watch TV.
can't do that*
>my kids don't even play switch in docked mode they'd rather have the tiny screen close tot heir face I really think mobile gaming like this is going to overtake consoles before this gen ends
Yeah, you know what else the Switch has?
Nintendo games, games that are designed at least with some portability or a small screen in mind
did you not understand that this is a $200 controller with a screen on it and not a new console?
what games would your kids play on the ps5? the only ones I can think of are astro playroom, sackboy a big adventure and peppa pig
at least with the switch they have a lot of games that the vast majority of kids can play because they are not "mature" games, and the obvious one is that they can take the console with them if they go on vacation
Stuff like fornite, apex, etc is what most kids would prob play.
>what games would your kids play on the ps5?
fortnite and cod probably
>fortnite and cod probably
They have PS4s. No need for the PS5.
that doesn't really stop them from wanting the shiny new thing tho
FFXVI was the first time I used my PS5 in 6 months. And it was pretty mid.
yeah but bahamut's fight alone made it worth it
PS5 is just a PS4 pro+. The days of console generations is dead, they are just pre-built pcs.
they always were
Consoles used to have quirks and soul, the sega saturn was completely different from the playstation. Now they are all the same machine with a different coat of paint. I blame the PS2.
>muh soul
kys
If the Switch couldn't play any games of its own. And its entire functionality relied upon the use of another several times more expensive product. That is actully the product with all the value. Then yeah the Switch would be complete garbage all the same.
But the Switch is actually its own system. With its own games. And this Project Q thing is not.
Remind me how much does the cheapest version of a switch cost.
Full price, no sales.
I see Switch lite from $170 to $199.
>switch lite
Literal piece of shit
True but you can use it without WiFi.
I did say normal switch lol.
I know you can get a lite for the cost of this turd but >stick drift.
The OLED Switch is $270. And you can actually play without WiFi and use bluetooth headphones.
>10FPS games
no thanks
>10fps
You're exaggerating but if you think this thing will hold 60fps consistently idk what to tell you.
>westoid snoy seething and projecting
But enough about the PS5
LOL
I was so mad that Jedi Survivor still runs like shit. I had to lower the difficulty because the stuttering fricked up the combat encounters. The game doesn't even look good. TLOU2 on PS4 looks better.
Oh, yeah. Since this thing uses DualSense components it's going to drift too lmao
>wins japan
source?
So it's just the Wii U gamepad but even shittier?
Why the frick would anyone buy this?
They want the zoomer audience but Ganker is too moronic to understand it
there isn't any audience they want, they don't understand the industry. japanese companies roundly just do not get it in regards to hardware. look at the PS5 itself. an embarrassment
Nobody is paying $200 for an extra controller.
Do you think zoomers buy a ps5 without a TV or monitor
>zoomer audience
lol no. they want the pay pig snoy audience
zoomers won't even be interested in buying something like this, they would rather spend that money on more games or vbucks
Why would the japs give a shit when they want to play it while they travel to and from work?
the real next gen portable has arrived
am i in an alternate reality? why are you fricking morons excited for a CLOUD gaming device?
It isn't cloud, but it still stucks. If it were real cloud you wouldn't need a PS5 for it.
are you moronic? its a remote play device.
Cloud means the games are on a server somewhere. This isn't the case. PS Now was cloud gaming, this isn't.
> games that are streamed through PlayStation Plus Premium's cloud streaming, are not supported.
It basically mirrors your PS5. It isn't cloud in the same way that mirroring your phone on a TV using WiFi isn't cloud gaming.
>why are you fricking morons excited for a CLOUD gaming device?
Who's excited ITT? Show me the posts.

YOU WILL OWN NOTHING AND YOU WILL BE HAPPY
It's actually comical how badly every single big corp wants this to happen. Even after Stadia flopped as hard as it did, this idea of streaming games will never go away.
it's because they can overcharge the frick for games while simultaneously barring all lost revenue from used sales. the fact that people are lining up to buy consoles without disc drives should tell you that it's already over.
>cloud gaming
But you can't play cloud games on this.
>arguing semantics.
it streams games from a server to the device
it is fricking worthless. do not buy it. do not entertain the notion that this is viable for gaming.
I think it streams from your console to the device. an it doesn't support streaming the PS3 streamed games
There is no servers you fricking moron. It's using your local wifi to do what the Wii gamepad did but worse.
>it's a server
you people are actually braindead
Using your PS5 with your local network is cloud gaming now?
STREAMING GAMES TO YOUR DEVICE IS CLOUD GAMING
I din't know the wiiu was a cloud service. Damn nintendo was ahead of their time.
>no bluetooth so you can't use wireless headphones
>It can't run games natively like the switch or steam deck, so you can only use it at home or where you have your PS5 nearby
>it doesn't even have 3G, 4G or 5G mobile connection, so cloud gaming or accessing your PS5 remotely is a big no-no
>he believes japan will love it
moron
You can use wireless headphones apparently, it just has to be Sony's proprietary BS Playstation Link enabled headphones.
You can also use it outside of your house, but I doubt most WiFi networks will good enough.
Still shit though.
>tfw you can just buy a Backbone One (PlayStation Edition) for your iOS or Android smartphone for literally half of the price... or even something that looks identical like a BSP-D6 for even less if you want...
Chiaki makes it so all of these 3rd party controllers work just fine when remote playing PS4 and PS5 on your smartphone so what's the point of this device?
but da haptic feedback bro...
>it just has to be Sony's proprietary BS Playstation Link enabled headphones
and I thought Nintendo was more like Apple
>but I doubt most WiFi networks will good enough
most people use 5ghz networks which are fast, but the problem is that they have a short range, and nobody will buy wi-fi extenders just to use ps portal outside the house
True, but if people even have hotspot with their phone plan they probably have a limit.
yea, I forgot that
the data consumption for these things is huge
>he doesn't have unlimited data
Your phone plan is shit.
not everyone has it, so fewer people will want to buy the device if they thought about it
>99% of unlimited data plans are rate limiting scams
>implying any cell provider will hand out hotspots will real unlimited data if you arent a business offering 2k a month
I wish the israelite would stop
Bluetooth audio is fine if you don't skimp out on chips and the OS has a good audio subsystem. Unfortunately windows and most phones audio systems suck and corporations aren't about to spend $1 more per unit for better quality codec IC's and a properly wired up DAC and amp
Anon, you really need to read the fine print for your "unlimited data".
Usually these plans are not with "unlimited"data, they only give you a large amount of gb per day or per month, and after you exceed that you will continue browsing, but at a speed of 256kbps or less
I signed my contract years ago before they starting adding those conditions and there is nothing they can do about it.
Why do you need more than 50gb of data a month?
>50gb
that's like 1/4th of an average game these days
before dlc
if you usually watch streaming services like any normalgay, that 50gb will be necessary
also playing in the cloud consumes about the same
Because 50gb is like 10 or so sessions of remote play at 1080p
There is no real point to it unless you're obssessed about the adaptive triggers or something. A phone can mirror your PS5 just like this thing can.
That's what I don't understand, why not just make that backbone with all the fancy dualsense bullshit and just sell it, all the people who want this shit will probably have a flagship phone with a much better wifi chip and 5G.
>dumb down population
>keep forcing cloud gaming down every new generation's throat until they are dumb enough to think it's a good idea
devilish. the people in charge of this world really enjoy playing the long game
it's over
unironically
Are they paid?
no
they do it for free
They're fanboys. For some reason console war homosexualry is at the highest it's been in years despite both consoles kinda sucking.
No, just fanboys, there is always hope in humanity that they could be bots but even then I doubt it.
>Snoys
>Being paid to shit themselves over new Snoy product
lmao
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA
Surely they have a business plan? They can't design something this moronic if their was absolutely no market for it, they most definitely did a market analysis before announcing it, right?
based on twitter posts they are banking on people being moronic enough to think it's an actual handheld that can play ps5 games natively
So this is like a Wii-u remote tablet for PS5?
Why copy a failed console?
Did they seriously abandon PSVR2 for this? I mean I know VR isn't really cool anymore but it's still better than a $300 streaming-only hundred.
>*wins Japan*
BAHAHAHAHAHA
>blown out in the last thread trying to defend Sony's oneupmanship
Pathetic. Have fun throwing $400 at a glorified Wii U Gamepad and PS™ earbuds.
>Wii U
>believed by the masses to be a Wii expansion
>made their owners happy
>PsQ
>believed by the masses and most anons to be a portable ps5
>will make their owners seethe
>>made their owners happy
I can assure you that, as a Wii U owner, I was not happy.
it's fricking asinine companies are desperate to push cloud gaming, but they realized actually running the cloud systems themselves is too expensive so they are making the goys use their own console as cloud server
and it's not even across the internet, but wlan only
what the frick is wrong with snoy and the rest of the westoids
>buy $200 1080p 60 fps ps5 streaming only device
>spend another $200 on the only earbuds compatible with this device
>all on top of the $500 you already spent on a ps5
Or
>download PS app on phone
>connect dualsense(tm) to phone via Bluetooth
>connect headphones to phone via Bluetooth
>no added cost since you'd already own these things such as a dualsense if you want ps5 streaming in the first place
It's become more and more noticeable that Sony have either got rid of their entire product strategy team or hired a bunch of morons. Because nobody with a fricking braincell can see this product as being good at all.
Even if you want the full handheld experience a backbone controller for phones costs $99. And you can play using 5G or whatever (though it'll prob suck) and not just WiFi.
>it's real
KEK
It literally looks like the backbone for phones that I get ads for all the time. How is this innovative?
>innovative
in what fricking way
The most important way
>#PlayHasNoLimits
Somebody tell these shills to stop putting the literal shill tagline in their shillposts.
>*wins Japan*
You call that winning Japan? Now this is how you win Japan.
>westoids lose
>they have no argument
>they just resort to racism instead

What?
>gameplay delay
it's hot garbage, better to just buy a phone with the 200 dollars really.
PlayStation Move all over again. Sony needs to stop trying to copy Nintendo. Most Nintendo games are only on their system, but for Xbox and PS, those games are also on windows so a steam deck already makes this thing obsolete
Why would ANYONE buy this? You have to have games in your PS5 to stream. It is literally a controller with extra steps. It's a mother fricking wii u.
phoneBlack folk aka the majority
>It's a mother fricking wii u.
Nah, Wii U can be played offline, and doesn't need to be connected to a router. Wii U also doesn't need another console.
How is it supposed to "win Japan" when you need to already own a PS5 for it?
are they going to rerererelease TLOU on this as well?
They cant, this is just a device that streams games from the main console itself to this screen.
It's going to be streamed directly to every nearby snoy in a 10km radius.
Why does Ganker seethe over Sony that much? Is it just a case of being mad that they are the leaders in this industry?
online was free for ps2, psp, ps3. Sony doesn't deserve mercy.
They're putting out a gravity Rush movie, they making PS2 and PS3 emulation a thing so the rest of the ape escape games can come out on PS5, it's not something they've discarded. if shit like Ape Academy and On The Loose are already out on PS5 you know they're throwing the kitchen sink at any back catalogue title they can get their hands on.
>you know they're throwing the kitchen sink at any back catalogue title they can get their hands on.
Bullshit. Where's the physical copies?
Now this is cope. Spider-Man 2 probably the most anticipated video game ever in the Western markets. If you think that it's going to "flop" then you are fricking delusional.
>Spider-Man 2 probably the most anticipated video game ever in the Western markets.
It's not even the most anticipated video game releasing that day.
>It's not even the most anticipated video game releasing that day.
I can assure you that bobody gives a flying shit about 2D Mario in 2023.
cope, snoy
I was ready to just disregard this as e-waste, but there was one thing that peaked my interest.
Something called Playstation Link, and it's the main way the device connects to your PS5. If remote play on this thing is as good as the wuu U, then this may be worth it on a sale.
$200 is where I felt that this was the max this could cost, and it still feels a bit steep. $125-$150 would have made me think about a purchase after seeing reviews.
I remember when we used to get cool periferials like the power gone or rob or the turbo button
Why does Sony release so much expensive, useless shit?
You only say that now, but wait until Scott he Woz puts out a video on it. People will be proclaiming PSVR to be revolutionary and the secondary market prices will be jacked sky fricking high just like what happened with the Vita and PS3. I have around 40 games for the system and collecting has been dirt cheap.
I think they said once that they wanted to be the nike of gaming. they won't go as far as apple to sell a "way of life" (even if they are trying they aren't trying that hard yet) but they are content enough in selling "luxury" products for brand enthusiasts for now
>I think they said once that they wanted to be the nike of gaming
>they are content enough in selling "luxury" products for brand enthusiasts for now
Yup, as soon as I saw the PS5 Black folkhoes I knew they were turning Playstation into a fricking designer brand.
I finally bought a Dualsense and it feels cheap as frick compared to a DS4
>Switch dominates PS5 so hard that Sony copies it
lol
lmao, even
XD, perchance
>forking over $200 to remote-play movie games
You have to be an actual braindead moron to buy this.
This IGN article states that it is indeed wifi only, but it doesn't have to be the same network as the PS5. So you can play anywhere. Latency could become worse when far away.
https://www.ign.com/articles/playstation-portal-hands-on-with-sonys-new-remote-play-handheld
Remote play is so bad right now too surely theyll update the software?
>This IGN article states that it is indeed wifi only, but it doesn't have to be the same network as the PS5. So you can play anywhere.
not going to work in practice. way too many issues and japanese don't understand basic networking programming
it will not work outside of a local network. not appreciably.
Why the frick would you buy this shit when you can get the exact same functionality with literally any modern phone/tablet and a PS4 controller?
I not poor
You know that you can also be a stupid person with a lot of money, don't you?
the typical example of someone with a lot of money here is that he spends for whatever without measuring himself
>"PlayStation Portal is the perfect device for gamers in households where they might need to share their living room TV or simply want to play PS5 games in another room of the house."
>actual, factual, same sales pitch as the fricking Wii U
>$200 on top of the actual PS5
Hilarious
It's gonna flop because SHITny's focused on making trAAAAsh instead of FUN games.
bro this device literally cannot play games on its own
I'll buy it if they make a new ape escape
They can't turn it into a cinematic over-the-shoulder third person action game, and they also can't turn it into a GAAS money drain, but hey, maybe some cameos in a future VR Astrobot tech demo will satisfy you
they also can't turn it into a good game
They did when Japan Studio was still around, though it wasn't a guarantee
>playstation switch
Frick yeah

What the frick?
This thing is literally worse than the Vita if the latter.

Serious talk here.
What I have learnt about streaming, from my 4090.
>NVIDIA gets streaming right because the newer GPUs has special hardware to encode and capture directly from frame buffer bypassing CPU therefore lower latency
>NVIDIA has dlss and frame gen as well
>android has awful wifi and decoding latency, x64 is faster at decoding and lower latency wifi speeds
>2.4ghz ang 5ghz is saturated can cause instabilities
>60ghz wigig need a direct line of site and fans to keep it cool
>cloud gaming via internet sucks dick
I really don't know how Sony is going to pull it off with a AMD APU. Sony are experts with colour and visual stuff, so at least the screen can look good and the controller is directly connected to the screen.
I stream to my steamdeck with Moonlight and a 6950xt. Works fine.
That's so fricking sexy holy shit
It must be expensive as frick but the headphones look so cool, and the portal seems so neat
>Remember all those mistakes we made with the Vita?
>Lets do literally all of that again but make an even worse product
Couldnt the Vita actually stream your PS4 over the internet? I vaguely remember trying it out one time on vacation to see if it worked which it did
Yup. But the vita could *also* play it's own games. This thing is a colossal waste of money.
When did Sony became the laughing stock of the gaming industry?
moved to california
$599 US dollars
Basically this.
Isn't PS Japanese??
youre witnessing one of the most failed products/biggest jokes in gaming history btw
i witnessed stuff like the virtual boy and the ngage-- i am telling you right now this goes right there with them.
After buying a dual sense I will never buy another Sony product ever again. What an utter piece of shit. You're fricking dumb if you buy this.
$200 is also the price of their pro controller and that's been selling very well. Since this is just another controller variation the price is fine.
>has to be streamed from a PS5
so its a WiiU kek
this could be a million times better if they just had a cloud service where you could stream from, and if you have a ps5 you have the option to sync it with what's in the cloud
japanese don't have the technical understanding to pull stuff like that off. the problems involved in that defeated google.
