How do you fill out a resume to prove your artificial intelligence expertise? At the very least you would need to be very proficient in whatever it's coded in, but AIgays will tell you that's pointless to learn too since AI can code.

          >draw for the fun of it
I often see that drawing is supposed to be "fun". And at some point it was. But can you still "draw for the fun of it" when it's become painfully obvious you're bad at it? How do I stop getting frustrated by "bad" results and learn to genuinely enjoy the process? I don't remember this being an issue 10 years ago, but a lot has changed for me in this time. Is there some way to change things back and detach myself from false overly high expectations?

            >But can you still "draw for the fun of it" when it's become painfully obvious you're bad at it?
Sure. The same way that no one is good at playing a guitar when they first pick it up, but you still play it because the process of just making noise and fumbling through a song until you've eventually practiced it enough to where it kinda doesn't suck, is fun. The same way spending 100 hours building a fricking castle in Minecraft, or grinding for Platinum Elite rank in some random shooter game is fun for people.

Literally how is it possible to exist if you only ever do anything if the "goal" is immediate and trivial?

            Anonymous

anything worth doing take time and effort
if drawing was that easy, everyone would be an artist
every human being who ever drew when through the same process, and everyone who quit during it said what you are saying
many gays would say someshit about "talent," but the real deciding factor is most pros drew all their crap when they were children and didn't have to look at embarrassing doodles as a judgemental adult

you can keep at it, treat it as meditation, practice, listen to podcasts, etc and keep at it, and it does become easier over time
or you can try to replicate simpler styles, cartoony stuff so you can have the sense of achievement in easier manageable steps

            Anonymous

I used to feel the same way. If my drawings weren't good, why bother? Eventually I learned to think of drawing like writing a story. Writing stories isn't about focusing on creating the greatest literature epic of all time, its about enjoying the journey and seeing fun things come to fruition. An okay story can still be fun when told with enough passion and flair behind it. So personally I focused not on creating something perfect, but just focused on drawing things I enjoyed. You have things you personally enjoy or want to see more of, right? Go and draw them, even if you aren't going to create the next Iliad.

            Anonymous

That's something I struggled with for a while too. I did enjoy drawing, but being /beg/ makes everything incredibly frustrating and time consuming, and the result wasn't even worth it.
But I think it just needs a simple shift in perspective. When you're learning, the result isn't necessarily the drawing itself, so much as the things you've learned and practiced during the process, and the goal isn't to finish the drawing, but to get better in general. It's satisfying to be able to make a good picture, but I feel the real satisfaction and confidence comes from looking over your work, remembering how it felt to draw them, and being able to say you've improved.
About the time I started moving to that kind of "learner" thinking, I also started really paying attention to references and leaning on them to help with the process, and because they made things easier, I also started wanting to do more weird poses/angles and such, which in total not only gave me practice to bring into the future but also made things more interesting and fun on a minute-to-minute basis.
There's still frustrating hurdles to overcome as any skill does, but that's about a summary of how I think you could make it more enjoyable for yourself.

But bodies are just combinations of shapes stacked on top of one another. Simplify things down, focus on the forms and build them carefully. That's why you bother with the basics to begin with.

        Anonymous

I know that, the human body can be broken down to just boxes, cubes and spheres, but for some reason when it comes to humanoid characters my brain just can't connect 2 and 2 together, when I try to connect those shapes together it just looks 'wrong', if that makes any sense.

        Just copy anime and dicky.

Gimme an example. I'm at my tablet right now, so maybe I can give some insight.

I didn't save the trashed drawing so I quickly drew up this up. I understand that there are some major proportion issues (arms are tiny compared to legs) and I know this probably isn't the best character to use but I didn't want keep you waiting.
I also tried doing the bean method before, but I can't seem to grasp how to fully use it.

Looks good, the only recommendation I have is to vectorize the clouds more in the foreground. They stick out like sore thumbs in the rest of the image.

            >I know that, the human body can be broken down to just boxes, cubes and spheres, but for some reason when it comes to humanoid characters my brain just can't connect 2 and 2 together, when I try to connect those shapes together it just looks 'wrong', if that makes any sense.
Get this [...] and other books by Bridgeman. John Vanderpoel is good too. Boxes and shapes will take you so far, knowing how the body functions will help you "feel" corrections you didn't think about or aren't portray in simple shapes.

Yeah, I probably should get onto reading that at some point, got it somewhere on my PC + the guide to drawing from life one and I've been following the advice from this website since I've recently got the marvel way book (which has been pretty good)

So I'm not sure 100% what you're attempting with the figure, but this is my 5-minute take on it.

I think you're not terribly far off the basics, your main issue here seems to be that you're not leaning on a strong visual library for how anatomy works, and also you're not really paying attention to the perspective so all of your shapes are just kind of working on different planes. You need to keep things tethered together. Don't just imagine the underlying shapes, try and picture the skin that connects them, like putting a bunch of tennis balls in a sock or something. The outer vessel keeps the shapes tied together, so where one goes, the others follow.

If it helps, draw a box around your figure, and cross it with as many straight lines as you need, so you can have all of the shapes tethered to the perspective of that box. I tend to try and view figures as hanging from a central point of balance, like a classroom plastic skeleton hanging from a stand.

I doodled a little bit of a quick take on your thing there, more along the lines of how I would visualize it, as well as how I might start laying simple shapes on top of the underlying shapes to build the anatomical forms.

To be honest, I'm not 100% sure on what I was trying to do either other than trying to draw a pose to give you an idea of what skill level I'm at rather than doing all out But I'm surprised that this 10 min attempt was much better than the previous drawing I did lol.
But yeah, I haven't even touched anatomy at all since it's always been kind of scary with how complex it is and I haven't done stuff like gesture drawing/ still life drawing for a long time, should probably get on that when I get the chance to help with keeping all of the shapes together as if they were connected by skin and bone. I don't think I've ever heard of that type of box method before but I'll definitely try it out when I get the chance, sounds pretty solid when it comes to my perspective troubles.
Also, thank you for showing me your doodle about how to visualise the the construction better.

You're off to a good start. Don't forget to draw on an old fashioned pencil paper. Look up Peter Han "dynamic sketching" and do his exercises. It helped me build confidence in drawing and was a popular exercise when I browsed /ic/ back in the day. I recently started going back there and I'm glad that Brigman is getting more attention now.

                >the marvel way book
This is like that, but for animators. It might help you with gesturing better and "trying the figure together".

I've actually done a bit of dynamic sketching before, got up to week 2 I think and just never bothered to continue on for some reason, will make sure to get on top of that because I remember it being quite good. Been making sure to draw traditional (mainly fine line pen and paper) since I've heard that helps a lot.
I've actually got the force books somewhere in my PC and I remember hearing about how good it was, will make sure to give it a read after I've gotten a good way into the marvel book (Probably until they get up to gestures).
Thank you both for the help

                >I don't think I've ever heard of that type of box method before
Some artists use it, and it's a nice starting point, but the goal should essentially be to strip down as many steps and technical details as you can and just process that all mentally so you can get your ideas out more quickly.

If you want to see some really strong examples of building figures using very simple shapes and strong focus on perspective, Kim Jung Gi is the master. Go look at his sketch work and you'll see what I'm talking about. Obviously you don't need to copy his work or try and do exactly what he does, but seeing and understanding the fundamentals at work is a big help. Also I found this little video on the topic, but I'm sure there's tons more in-depth ones out there.

Ok, now that you showed me this video it reminded me that I did see this hear about this before I think, just forgot about it for some reason. After watching it for a few minutes, I think I understand what's going on when it comes to the box stuff, I'll make sure to actually look into KJG more and to apply that box/ mannequin method into my drawings.

                kinda cringe
I would say look at the few actual art tutorials kim did before he died but I think he was already so good that he struggled to convey anything useful to newbies

                >kinda cringe
My fricking moronic homie, it's called explaining basic fricking concepts. I don't care if the dude watches the video intently and tries to copy it, it's about the underlying concepts. You don't try and emulate a master's work, you look at it and attempt to distill down the identifiable concepts that you can turn into applicable principals that inform things you try in the future.

Thank you anon, it is 'kind of' based on it. The artist I'm trying to emulate currently works mostly doing Pokemon card illustrations so the style kind of got in there because of that.

I know that, the human body can be broken down to just boxes, cubes and spheres, but for some reason when it comes to humanoid characters my brain just can't connect 2 and 2 together, when I try to connect those shapes together it just looks 'wrong', if that makes any sense.

I have been trying to copy from the art book I'm doing the practices from, they're pretty rough and room for improvement but I'm doing it, but trying to do a master copy from another artist is a whole different story. Don't really care for anime shit

It's should be "The C programming language", but I have a feeling it would draw too much attention away from people arguing over it because of how archaic it seems to them.
