These are two of the biggest things that killed the game. I had friends who were interested in playing it occasionally because it was free and decent enough. Then we saw there was really no good way for the three of us to play together. I saw tons of posts online saying the same thing. You cannot make a smash competitor that you don't let people play with their friends that are in the same room as them, it's moronic. Same with making the game virtually unplayable if you are a group of 3. 2 people can que together, 4 people can do 2v2s but there's no option for 3 people without someone having a shitty bot on their team. That's on top of needing to actually let people edit the rules like smash and needing more items and stages. People keep talking about characters but the game is missing far more basic shit than that which is what led to it dying.
The lack of couch play was fricking embarrassing for how hard they were pushing e-sports. They didn't even consider multiple people at a lan might want to use their own keyboards.
It was probably done out of greed. I imagine some soulless bean counter was worried that groups of friends might be encouraged to only spend money on one person's account for characters so they could play with them in person rather than each person needing to unlock them separately on each account. In fact, I'd bet money that's the reason.
As I recall they were actually pretty lenient on offline play. You could use all the skins and/or chars. Its just the controller situation was fricked and ended up making their e-sports matches drag out.

I demod rushdown revolt at a major smash bros event where the devs had a booth. It honestly didn't feel too bad. It's much more fun than NASB and actually has cool things that you can't do in Smash. The game plays similarish to turbo mode in Project M. I think if they used hot anime girls and a better art style the game would take off. Unfortunately it will be dead on arrival because it's ugly and the characters don't look cool.
