Kinda bland, there are no real memorable storybeats or setpeices. Go place, kill guy, repeat ad nauseum. The most you'll ever get is finding TK Baha dead and lowering a bridge.
After 6 hours you realize the gameplay loop doesn't evolve much at all. Maybe an unpopular opinion but co-op balance is just terrible, as soon as one player gets a little bit of more loot than the other it becomes an not very fun looting competition which is not very fun imo.
They normalized the damage in the sequels and remakes.
>Play Borderlands 1 >Rocket launcher with every round of ammo (multiple) fired at once, +400% crit +500% damage...at level 5
Think I got to level 30 before it's damage wasn't effective anymore.
>every cool gun you find is filtered 3 levels later
lol if you find a hellfire (or really any purple weapon) the game's over, probably why getting one to drop was an act of god. if you play the remastered version that massively increased drop rates you get decked out in oranges before new haven and the game's over before it started.
I don't remember anything from it except the ending being the most anti-climatic shit ever. Also after a certain point 95% of the guns become trash not even worth looking at, on top of this they all feel pretty samey.
Only main complaint I have is the quests were a bit too simple, even for the time. It was either collect this, or shoot that with very little in terms of environmental puzzles or drastic shifts of gameplay outside of the occasional slaughter dome. Otherwise? It's my favorite borderlands for playing solo due to the cynical alongside dry humor. Co-op playthrough definitely goes to BL2 though
Borderlands, all 5 of them, have a problem that the scaling is shit. It always feels pretty good on the early levels then there's a point in every game and it varies where everything 2 shots you and it just isn't fun.
Bad gameplay, slow babby FPS. Loot system and weapons mostly are minor statistical variations rather than interesting gun. Each area mostly has "an" enemy type and most enemy types are crap and boring to deal with. Skags are wait until charge, shoot in mouth and jump over, rinse and repeat. Varkids/Antlions - just circle around, maybe pop with your gun or fist while circling to if you don't just phase, then pop the ass weak point.
The lack of mobility and speed hurts game-play. The hitboxes are buggy..In the first one, rockets didn't even work properly and hitting any incline would stop the damage from occurring in front of the incline at all - so, hitting the stairs directly below someone on the stairs wouldn't damage them.
The plot and all that stuff was shit. That's not really surprising it is a video game. I really don't care about that though.
The leveling system kinda fricks with explorability and grinding although you can level boost in coop.
Speaking of which - the one good thing about it is... is there's a game to play coop in with friends which is kind of a niche market these days, legitimately coop FPS games. I don't play PvP FPS anymore because they're all broken terrible shit and the popular ones filled with officially sanctioned cheaters anyway. So, PvE is my bag now and there's a heavy lack of it.
That being said - coop abilities could be more synergistic. Also there's not a lot of fun sniper vantage points as well - mostly sniper rifles are zoomy lulz 360 spin noscope/quickscope in play rather than cover fire etc... and that's disappointing for mixing shit up with a weapon that could be used for interesting coop style
Also the physx was broken and it had framerate issues and bugs. And occasionally you need to bust out a character editor for the bullshit moments occasionally where the game cheeses shit and sticks you or managed to launch drops into the abyss etc... And the loot system is bad with synchronous loot - meaning people will grab when it's easier to let people look at something on the ground and discuss who and how it gets split - but the game incentivizes, grab everything frick other players, don't tellem, only usem and sellem. Which is toxic as frick and basically also killed most of the online play entirely. No point in going through grind sessions when every online game was some butthole who was going to literally gank the goods and qq your ass immediately upon doing so. Like it was a horrific gameplay decision.
I dislike it but this assessment is correct. Every subsequent BL games has largely been an improvement in some way from the previous. Including TPS with low grav, buttstomp abilities and new gun types and vehicles, and so fourth.
I don't dislike it. It's probably the only one I actually liked. Even the humor wasn't as bad, they just douboe downed on it later whoch sucked. For gameplay, everyone in multiplayer had duped cheat guns that 1 shot everything.
The world design is extremely stale and predictable. Enemies spawn in the same exact location again and again which removes any excitement of booting up the game again and going through the same place.
there isn’t an exploration factor that rewards you for going off the beaten path. The world is only superficially big in scale but the illusion falls apart the moment you realize you’re not actually going in different directions.
Borderlands was carried hard by it’s combat and leveling system.
I don't like how the game plays solo because usually after the first playthrough every fight becomes part gear check part rush. You're going to get downed eventually and if you're alone you want to be as close as possible to increase your odds of getting a second wind off. Shields regenerate so slowly too and driving cars, especially in the first game, can be absolutely miserable because they're so fragile and regenerate too slow. What seals the deal for me and prevents me from going back is the accuracy of the guns. There's nothing more annoying than having a long range weapon with a tight looking scope only for it to deviate terribly every shot. All that said, I'll always prefer the first game over the others.
It’s a shame the story and dialogue of 3 is an unskippable troony esg abortion because the gameplay is good and the dedicated drop system scratches the Diablo 2 itch without no lifeing.
1 was honestly good for it’s time and clever evolution of the looter formula though it’s influence on other games is hugely negative.
Also gearbox is a scummy company
bullet sponge enemies
terrible writing
tedious gameplay loop
ugly graphics that lose their charm in about 15 minutes
insufferable characters
I could go on
it's legitimately like a 3 or 4/10
this one is boring as shit also the dlcs are are unbalanced reskins
pisspoor map designs, especially the long highway
dont get me started on the underdome
The expansion can feel a bit boring to do.
There are some jokes around, but the grind in some quests just makes me fall asleep. Especially the one with the Tanis Maniquinn.
the gameplay's monotonous and the cell shading style starts losing its appeal pretty early on.
Also in their fricking genius they reused the final boss from opposing force which was a stupid alien worm that did absolutely nothing in that game and was heavily criticized for being boring. I have no idea what the frick they were thinking there.
>explain why you dislike this game
The skills trees are rudimentary, not very fun, and the regions start to run together until you to get the last part in the snow mountains where you finally get some variation, but by then the game's over.
unfunny humor
I don't dislike it though, that's just what I dislike about it
This. The game was alright for the gameplay but the humor sucked big time
>Without mentioning the sequels
its a bad game
Kinda bland, there are no real memorable storybeats or setpeices. Go place, kill guy, repeat ad nauseum. The most you'll ever get is finding TK Baha dead and lowering a bridge.
Flawed as it certainly is, I like borderlands a lot.
boring number go up perks
The shooting is awful, helped in no part by how dogshit the guns feel throughout almost all of Playthrough 1, and the AI is uninteresting to fight

Does anyone still have that "Viral-lands" edit from like 15 years ago?
every cool gun you find is filtered 3 levels later, gives the game progression as a whole this nihilistic feel
at least brick can punch good
but enough about BL2
I had a Torgue shotgun that somehow managed to be stronger than anything else I found, despite being like 20 levels lower. Used that shit forever.
>every cool gun you find is filtered 3 levels later

No gaige, no play
The only thing I really dislike about it is not being able to restart your playthrough at max level
the terrible level design, enemies and shooting

Who said I disliked it? Borderlands 2 is better. It's literally just this game but more shit to do, explore, weapons, etc. Humor is better too.

I don't dislike this game? It was fantastic and definitely worth playing. I do not know what you are talking about.
