Worse was tying looks to Variations and making each skin color its own unique equippable. They have more than five looks per character but you can only make five selectable at a time. You can technically get a second color for each look by selecting with Start, but it should have been akin to Street Fighter or Guilty Gear, where you select your variation, your costume, then your color.

It's part of the story that Liu Kang is fricking up the New Era. It's kinda meta because according to the leaks he'll sort of turn into a villain like Dark Raiden then all the timelines will converge near the end of the game and the Titans will fight.
It's not that the New Era is bad per se, I actually like the direction of the nee games, it's that Liu Kang becomes obsessed with making things perfect in his point of view but you can't escape fate.
And that will make him a villain, same as Dark Raiden with his obsession. That's how he fricks up the New Era.
Jerrod and Sindel rule the Outworld but Jerrod becomes Havik (it's all but confirmed, Jerrod has the same design as Havik and the leak said that Havik is actually another character in the beginning but becomes Havik later on).
Mileena was normal and the biological older sister of Kitana but the Tarkat plague turns her into the bitter evil Mileena we know, making her believe that Kitana wants to usurp the throne.
General Shao will likely overthrow Jerrod and Sindel, becoming Shao Khan.
Based on the "Liu Kang basically becomes Dark Raiden" thing we can assume that he is truly the Blundergod, that he changed things too much but as Kronika said in MK11, there are certain outcomes you can't change.

People have the memory of MK9 having extremely skimpy costumes, well beyond MK's usual amount outside of maybe Mileena, but they don't remember the square bodies and man faces. I'm all for some good breasts and ass but only if they're quality, and some of the costume designs in 9 were just awful, like Sonya's dumb stripper outfit. Tying specific haircuts to costumes was a bit weird, they should have just let you swap those out freely.
Worse was tying looks to Variations and making each skin color its own unique equippable. They have more than five looks per character but you can only make five selectable at a time. You can technically get a second color for each look by selecting with Start, but it should have been akin to Street Fighter or Guilty Gear, where you select your variation, your costume, then your color.

You could also download the game cracked from OVAgames and a save file so that you can play everything unlocked with an offline version of the game for when they pull the servers down and you can't play with other people or unlock shit anymore anyway.
