Not woke at all. Great gameplay in every way from boss fights to gunplay to movement, and it has a great story(but you need to finish the DLC + have an understanding of greek mythology to fully understand everything).
It also has a ton of SOUL. The architecture, the planets, the biomes, the enemies, the bosses, etc. makes it an incredibly good presentation if you are into "weird and alien" things. The game is a solid 8/10 if you are into roguelites + the SciFi setting.

I honestly don't understand the intense aversion to this game's protag. I picked this game up because I thought the gameplay looked cool, and it was. If Selene had like weird piercings or pink hair I would get it, but her design is so inoffensive.

It was a lot better than I expected it to be. Story is kind of meh, but the gameplay is fun. The environments can get a bit repetitive, though. Despite being a roguelike, it only has a set number of rooms for each area to choose from.

The story is good because it's about conquering the fear of the unknown, correcting mistakes and regrets, the struggles of life, death, breaking out of certain loops and growing as a human, etc. while constantly introducing fresh and surprising new things that you didn't expect. 99% of stories in vidya are extremely predictable, so it was refreshing to see that this game's story isn't.
Overall, the story has a very human element to it that most people can probably relate to from their own lives in some form. And the best part of it all is that there isn't some Hollywood-esque happy and cheerful ending.

It's not woke, it's got mistaken for woke because it put an old, therefore ugly woman as protagonist. It's there for story reasons, and besides looks protagonist isn't really particularly Marysueish either, portrayed as fairly flawed, not as you'd expect from woke shit. So that's a misconception. Story is very ambiguous all the way through though so you'll have to tolerate that or ignore it, as gameplay is the point and it's amazing. Features infinite tower in free dlc as well.

Had one of the least satisfying shotguns I've ever used. If you liked Risk of Rain 2 you'll like the other weapons, the halfway point annoyed me and I ended up playing with the Zero Suit Samus model swap after that. Pirate it since the PC version is in a much better state than at launch.

Watched Gellers video on it, and no, it's not woke at all. Of course, the meaning of woke has become so broad and ill defined that literally anything is woke now. It's basically a journey into hell and eternal punishment, before eventual bleak acceptance.
Housemarque is still trustworthy in terms of making playable video games, but anyone who says there isn't a creative clash is delusional or lying. You just walk past the boring first person house sections so you can keep playing the fun action game (thank frick). The whole game is about her guilt and regret for abandoning her family, her mother and aborting her son, so she could pursue her career which brought her no happiness. It's the opposite of woke, it's just not immediately obvious.
She didn't abort anything, the car scene is her leaving her child to die during the accident because we get newspaper and TV reports about the accident happened and she was saved by a passerby good Samaritan.
The wiki also posits the theory that the car scene is meant to be her as a child causing her mother to get into an accident, they drive off the cliff, and while she was able to save Seline the accident caused her to be unable to become an astronaut anymore. Because of this she took her stress and anger out on Seline leading to Seline coming to resent her own son because her mother cared for her son unlike Seline.
She was the kid in the crash, not the mother. Look at their eyes.

I died multiple times in the first and second biome and suddenly I got a perfect run and beat all the others in one go. So if your luck is high you can beat it very quickly.
