There are some parts of it that are pretty high up there, like a lot of stuff with Huey, Butcher's entire backstory, and a lot of little one-off characters like that one member of the moronic supe team who took on a motherly role. Really, any time I've seen Ennis give an earnest effort at character drama (and it's pretty obvious when he's not), it just shows the majority of superhero comics to be Captain Planet tier shit with no right to be taken as seriously as they are by anyone involved; similar to a lot of Moore's Swamp Thing in that way. When he's not giving that effort, then both The Boys and Punisher MAX can be really funny and enjoyable, with The Boys especially being a breath of fresh air after you get sick and tired of Marvel and DC editorial's constant moronic nonsense.

I've read all of Punisher MAX and The Boys. There are side characters in Punisher MAX that only appear in like 1 arc that are I still find more memorable than most named superheroes with unintentionally comedic melodrama and it's been years since I read MAX. The diversity cops in The Slavers arc is a good example. Even what I remember of Fury MAX, maybe because it takes place over such a long time and you see some of those characters on their deathbed and how they're rethinking their lives.

I've read all of Punisher MAX and The Boys. There are side characters in Punisher MAX that only appear in like 1 arc that are I still find more memorable than most named superheroes with unintentionally comedic melodrama and it's been years since I read MAX. The diversity cops in The Slavers arc is a good example. There are some parts of it that are pretty high up there, like a lot of stuff with Huey, Butcher's entire backstory, and a lot of little one-off characters like that one member of the moronic supe team who took on a motherly role. Really, any time I've seen Ennis give an earnest effort at character drama (and it's pretty obvious when he's not), it just shows the majority of superhero comics to be Captain Planet tier shit with no right to be taken as seriously as they are by anyone involved; similar to a lot of Moore's Swamp Thing in that way. When he's not giving that effort, then both The Boys and Punisher MAX can be really funny and enjoyable, with The Boys especially being a breath of fresh air after you get sick and tired of Marvel and DC editorial's constant moronic nonsense.

I've read all of Punisher MAX and The Boys. There are side characters in Punisher MAX that only appear in like 1 arc that are I still find more memorable than most named superheroes with unintentionally comedic melodrama and it's been years since I read MAX. The diversity cops in The Slavers arc is a good example. Even what I remember of Fury MAX, maybe because it takes place over such a long time and you see some of those characters on their deathbed and how they're rethinking their lives.

I knew what they were up to, and it wasn't good.
After that we got a standalone for Miles Morales, helping make this tokenization more popular, and it all lead to Spider-Man 2, with Black Cat coming back to say she's a dyke, Venom being a beast with no character who's not even Eddie Brock, and MJ being even more naggy and genuinely hideous, ending with a spineless and weak Peter letting Miles replace him, since he's the better Spider-Man or something, so Peter can settle down with a MJ that resents him deeply.
