I sometimes wonder how Warframe would have fared if it went for a stylized look from the get go instead of chasing current visual effect trends. They have spent SO MUCH DEV TIME revamping earlier locations to be visually on par with the later environments that had the full PBR/foliage treatment, to the point of even throwing out entire tilesets (rip Jupiter, rip Corpus ship) in the process.
Least they did finally drop PhysX particles at some point and implemented a platform-agnostic solution which was 'good enough' compared to the PhysX ones it replaced.
PhysX particles were so fricked that DE's engineer had to research the issue, and made nVidia aware of a bad memory leak with it so nVidia could fix it.

My first experience with PhysX was Planetside 2 and it was beautiful for the whole 5 months it existed at 30fps before getting removed with an axe for the PS4 port.
I miss them. There's still nothing in modern gaming like PhysX particles, since PhysX uses mesh geometry for it, vs. every modern solution just being projected sprites/trails. Wish I took some vids of the even older shit that got removed, like Excalibur's 4 ability, or Rhino's stomp causing crap off the entire floor to rise.

To his credit, he's actually a good programmer who'll go on hour long tangents about how they got 3 FPS more in this scene with no quality loss by recombobulating the holo-dimorphers (he's been at DE since UT2003 if I recall and was a graphics programmer almost the whole time, hence why Warframe's "proprietary" Evolution engine shared an awful lot with UE2.5 down to the notorious old "DON'T USE ME I'M FROM BIOSHOCK" textures). Programmer, great. Graphical director, still great, being a code monkey at heart he knew what was actually capable and not just saying 'I want X feature that New Game has.' Creative director- very, very bad.
It makes me wish they just made single-player/bro-op games with a defined start and finish. At least that would force him to hold the scope of his graphics autism for a given project, and then use the following project as an excuse to upgrade their engine to tackle the new demands.

Duviri is the worst of all because of general detachment and the loop, and the new Lab tileset is functionally an open world via its loading mechanic. So there are 5.
Having mentioned Duviri, that's my general fear for the game. That the entire thing, instead of pulling itself together, continues spiraling into endless side tangents with alternate progression systems. Because that means you have a bunch of different systems that all work differently and opposed to one another, and it's impossible to maintain and upkeep that. And we're already getting to the point where I don't have the time or patience to go between Kahl, Duviri, and whatever the hell else. The pull and draw I felt when I first started no longer exists, and the artificial pull being applied via the allure of loot and power creep makes me sigh and set the game down whenever I try to start getting back into things.
Warframe is in maintence mode while the real devs build Soulframe. Everything made for Soulframe (horses, melee "Drifter" combat, Duviri randomization) is just the bones of their new game.

Warframe's big blunder was never having a coherent story. You can tell they TRIED to implement a campaign later on, but it came way too late and in small snippets that usually miss more than they land.
The big blunder was trying to cobble some weeb animu tier moronic nutso shit together as a story and keep compounding on it until you get the totally moronic shit we have now.
It's so easy to tell this if you are a new player as well. I started a new account a month ago and rushed through all the story missions. Even the main missions early on are just regular star chart missions disguised as unique missions with a bit of dialogue added in between. Then you start getting to Neptune and beyond and the cutscenes and unique missions and locations get ramped up times a billion. Honestly, they need to go back and redo the earlier story missions because they are not appealing at all to new playera.
The game doesn't really start until The Second Dream, where everything suddenly just blossoms up out of nowhere: Gameplay and possibilities become plentiful, where you only had two or three options before. Same with the story, shit actually gets interesting.

warframe's blunder is that this isn't a game in which skill matters - you can't outskill mechanics, you can't manage things, you can't out-good anything. It's literally all about THE build, and grinding for said build. Players are not allowed to have skill, therefore it will never have 'real' gameplay other than build checks. You will never have raids, real bossfights, difficulty or anything. It'll forever be a number-go-up after spending 12 hours in a fomo event grinding for the one arcane that lets you play the game the way it's balanced for.
No matter what they shit out, it's already solved. Stealth of any kind? Octavia/Wisp. Platforms/Jumping/fricking mobility? Not being a moron, or Titania. Damage? Billions of broken builds for any, or all, elements. Survivability? Turbo shield gating, cheap overguard, fricking adaptation, on-demand invuln in 30 flavors.
The only 'gameplay' they can add is gating stuff behind boring grind to show that there is something to progress towards, or dps limiters which are really fun (and also are circumvented with fps limiters).

octavia is definitely an okay, emphasis on okay, "stealth" frame, since you can just activate her I think 3 (the one where it has a bunch of waves coming into her feet) and just crouch, build for duration and you've basically got loki.
or you could just press 2 on loki and speedrun the mission in under 2 minutes because of his incredibly fast parkour speed and lack of any build up required like octavia needs
It's the same function, you're still only pressing one button, she gets a bunch of different buffs depending on her actions. She gets a speed buff for jumping. Don't get me wrong, you are correct, but she is an "okay" stealth frame.

Wisp is an insane frame for so many reasons, and with a speed boost she's great for speedrunning all sorts of stealth missions, instead of having to walk slowly. You don't even have to build for invis, you just fricking jump. When you land, invis disappears after a second or two so hitscan enemies don't, in fact, snipe you. You only ls invis when you shoot, so instead you can melee or just do the fricking mission.
On top of that, your 2 lets you skip gates, distances, anything
Octavia on another hand has invis thats not disabled when shooting, which is also long as frick, and outside of stealth you're an incredibly well scaling frame (mallet) with ability to just disable AI (roller)
Ivara's prowl makes you slow and I guess you could LARP having choices by forcing a 'dedicated' stealth frame in the form of Loki, and then use him for nothing else
As one of the best stealth players of Warframe (I even won an event) I can tell you : Wisp is the BEST stealth frame.
No energy required, all you need is jumping. If you touch the ground in front of an enemy and don't jump as soon as you land you have half a second to kill them, otherwise they'll start getting cautious and if they see you once more, one of them will automatically reach a terminal.
I stopped playing in 2020 but non humanoids like Grineer dogs had a bug where they stay alerted the whole mission if you're noticed once. Make sure you 1 hit kill them and their master. Same with the catlady...

She is letting Pablo loose on the reworks, Hydroid and Frost, two warframes that were very old by current standards in what they can do are now pretty amazing. Limbo, Banshee and others are on their way already. The entirety of companions which only had 2, maybe 3 good ones everyone uses were also reworked to actually be viable and stay alive for an entire mission, I can think of 6 now tha are cores to certain builds and now all of them can support you for an entire mission instead of dying instantly.
These have been the best quests visually and in gameplay. The new storylines from the most recent event especially. No weird extra lore crap, just 3 animals given human conscience, trying to survive radiation poisoning.
We have never had so many good and viable weapons in the game too. Newest Warframes havent been released feeling ass in their kit, like Yareli and Xaku on release were.

There's Steel Path to do it all over again +100 levels to enemies, plus new areas in the void, deimos, and elsewhere.
There's also railjack, which I really like but others apparently hate. Probably why I don't play warframe much now and have moved on to other Space games since DE doesn't seem to want to implement combat against Capitol ships let alone infested gardens.

Helminth is a system where you can replace one of your abilities with another warframe's ability. Its only a specific, dev chosen ability from each frame, so its relatively limited, but does serve to prop up some of the worse frames. You get it from the Deimos area.
Steel Path is "hard mode" of the most boring variety. All enemies are +100 levels and (I think) double armor. For that you get a few extra resources and some specific trinkets, as well as the affinity gain from killing level 100+ enemies.
Sanctuary Onslaught, you fight hordes of enemies non stop with similar Affinity gain as Helene/Hydron but without the stop and go waves bullshit and long build up. Unequip all weapons and optionally bring a nuker and you will be done in 10 minutes or less.
Love this game. I played on release on PC and then briefly 2018-19 on ps4. Haven't played since but I always loved this game. When i found out about the bullet jump I easily got 2-3 hours more out of that game just from seeing what shit I could do with that.

Its a grindy forevergame with one of a kind movement and power fantasy. Its free, so try it out for a weekend. If you like it, cool, if not, you wouldn't be the first and no one really blames anyone for bouncing off its obtuse fricking systems. Keep the wiki open and watch some guide videos, it makes things easier and everyone does it.
Don't, I repeat, DON'T spend any money on it unless you are well and truly invested, 100 hours and no sign of stopping level.
Steve set the bar so low that Rebecca can crawl on all fours and still be more competent at running the game since she actually played it as a player and not as an undercover boss with horrible takes. It also helps that she has downshirt shots and other things from streams that only made the fanbase love her more as she's humanized over the years instead of typical greedy dev looking to line her pockets.

Nora's Black person radio station is the new alert system. You get everything you used to get from Alerts through her now. So she's still around, although I think you can mute her. She doesn't have the story thing she did when they first released her though.
What was the last thing they added when you were playing? Duviri is all new, and its... okay. A lot of people kind of hate it, but I think its not too bad. At least a bit refreshing. And the Incarnon stuff breaths some new life back into old shitty weapons.
There's Arcanes for all weapons now, which did shake up the meta, a good gun Arcane can let you drop Serration, which is the biggest shake up modding has had in years.
They redid Focus (tater kid powers) to be pretty relevant, and then added content with the Zariman to make grinding focus less of a chore.

Its the same as it was when introduced. Glorified battlepass with shit you do to get to the next level. There's stages that give you credits to use on the old Alert rewards (Reactors/Catalysts, Nitain, Vauban parts, cosmetic helmets and a few shitty mods). And a bunch of other rewards on other battlepass steps, like cosmetics, weapon and frame slots (always at least one of each every "season"), some mods, Forma, and usually an Umbra Forma near the end of the track.
Honestly its better than sitting hoping for a Catalyst Alert to pop when you happen to be available to play. I understand hating Niggress Nora herself, but the system is significantly better than Alerts.
The last time Steve played was when they added Taxon.

I saw a really good few like equinox's and Ivara's quiver, having radial sleep on any Warframe you want seem like a saving feature for weaker frames.

A few of the "best" abilities are nerfed when used via Helminth. I believe Sleep Arrow has its radius nerfed but don't quote me on that.
Roar is a big standout, despite its ratios being nerfed. Works for nearly everyone
Hildryn's Pillage is fricking great because stripping armor has become so important.
Grendel's Nourish is another damage buff and isn't nerfed like Roar.
Sevagoth's Gloom is really nice for survival on several frames.
Protea's Dispensary is nice for frames that want energy
Gauss's Thermal Sunder is what people use to just farm Steel Path and level.
A lot of other abilities have niche or specific use cases, like Garuda/Zephyr working together with Wisp's Breach Surge for near infinite damage loops

At least once you get a Necramech built (6 forma minimum...) you can just run around in it in Deimos and frick up absolutely everything with the cannons.

HAH, you might not pay with cash, but you'll pay with your life. It takes 3 days to make a sexbot. But first you'll need to make the parts for the sexbot individually, which takes 12 hours. And naturally those individual pieces only have a percent chance to be rewarded to begin with. Have fun!
I was never really bothered with the build times in the game (you always have shit to grind while other shit is building until you're close to the current max rank after 1,000 things MR'd). The main issue was getting plat to expand warframe/weapon space, which I generally just grabbed plat any time the 75% coupon would pop up, because frick the trading market in this game.
There are websites to use that make the trading market convenient as frick, don't use the moron channel.
The only good thing about the trade channel it's that it taught me how to haggle irl, that and about exploiting market trends and supply drought along with switching market regions to make bank.
Honestly this game has taught me more than many college classes I've taken.
I was well aware of warframe.market. It's still a pain in the ass and people will bother you to get you to undersell instead of just ignoring you.

Okay. So the main immediate goal is to go through the star chart from junction to junction, unlocking and completing main story quests. There is a lot of side content that introduces characters or brings you through acquiring certain warframes. But the main mitigatory factor with regard to power is the acquisition and ranking up of mods. Second to that is ranking up your account mastery rank. You do that by ranking up weapons, warframes, companions, and vehicles you've never ranked up before. This unlocks more stuff to build and rank up to further increase your rank. Eventually you get access to weapons that are decently strong when properly modded.
There is a substantial time investment, but if someone is helping you or you know the basics you can skim across the main story in a week. For better or worse. I'll be completely honest. It's a sunk time vacuum that threatens to devour your life despite not being especially great in certain departments.
The gameplay itself is kinda "cool". Parkour and jumping everywhere. Getting a back-mounted jet-thing, and your own ship to pilot. But it's just a farming sim, pretty much.
It's a third person shooter with braindead enemies and squadmates that are nearly that dumb but at least they have a '4' button. All of the fun to be had from Warframe is located within the first 10-20 hours, depending on how tolerant you are of repetition. Beyond that there are layers and layers of dumb fricking shit getting in the way of just enjoying being a shooty space ninja. Most of which can conveniently be circumvented with cash. There are much better F2P options now if you're broke.

They did a big pass and nerfed most big explosive weapons pretty hard. But it was mostly in the ammo economy so if you can make space for ammo mutation you should still be good, for the most part.
On the other hand, current meta is the "Incarnon" weapons. Both the ones from the Zariman and the ones from Duviri. Basically weapons that charge up on headshots and then you transform for a bit to completely decimate shit. The Duviri ones are exclusively weekly rewards from Steel Path Circuit, which itself is ass to do because its a roguelike mode (it gives you 3-4 random frames, and weapons of each category, the base builds are ass, but it uses your current build if you have one), so if you don't have a lot of Steel Path worthy builds you won't be getting them.
So you'll probably do some grinding, but less than you might think. Only really grinding to be able to consistently do Steel Path, nothing else has been introduced thats all that hard.

Huh, so they finally did it. I felt like Steve was entertaining that idea years ago before he fricked off to make Soulframe.
Some people hate it. I don't mind it, but its like most of the open worlds, once you get the things you need from it, there's no real reason to keep at it.
The nice thing about it is that you can also get Frames from the normal mode version (not Steel Path). So you can cut out certain grinds if you don't want to do them, like Ivara or Ash (assuming that week rolls them for you).
