I can't play it, because I have an Xbone and not Series X. I'll play it eventually but I really do not understand the hype. It looks completely unexceptional to me. In theory it's a game that should excite me, I like action games, stylised visuals, boss fights, standout music, but I look at a video of this and just don't care.
That being said it's also one of only about 4 games I wanted to play this year.

I grew up with PlayStation but re entry switched to Xbox. Do remember DMC is a series where even fans don't like half the games. As dated as it is, DMC1 was an incredible experience at the time ad really felt like a generation defining game.
If you can emulate Acquire's PS2 library of action games(Way of the Samurai 1,2, Way of the Shinobi and Samurai Western), Onimusha series is great, Shinobi and Nightshade, OG God of War, Ghost Rider (ok GoW clone), Wolverine Origins (another GoW clone, but also has a PC port).

It isnt a QTE sequeunce, it has it up there for people who are moronic, the button order but the reality is you have to have rhythm with the sound to do them. It isn't "Do this one after another" it's "wait for specific sound beat to match rhythm with specific button" something a tonedeaf person will struggle with. Actual QTEs they wont.
Objectivity has to play key though, and if you for whatever reason dislike all rhythm games as a genre, you can't really objectively rate them. Mind you, this is the only rhythm game I played in like 10 years and I enjoyed it.
I didn't judge rhythm games, I just said that I won't play the game because I don't like rhythm games and I wish we got straightforward no gimmick action games. It's sad how the closest thing I got this year were En Garde, the PC Port of the Ninja Warriors and American McGee's Pinocchio

This game is astounding to me in that it's animated extremely well on a technical level while managing to be utterly repulsive visually. Not a single good character design in the whole thing.
Yeah I found it a strange look, it's highly stylised but yet its super bland? It's a good direction to see MS attempt though
It has a huge list of inspirations including things like Jet Set Radio and FLCL but it doesn't capture anything about what made those properties visually pleasing. Like they're just naming off things that weeby zoomers enjoy to draw attention. Compare to something like Bomb Rush Cyberfunk which apes JSR so perfectly it might as well be an unofficial sequel.
It doesn't help that the artstyle looks like it's western pseudo-anime style despite being a nip developed game, it straight up looks somewhere between Critical Miss and Avatar.

It was pretty great, easily one of the most fun and polished action games ever made.
I love DMC and I love rhythm games so it was a perfect combination for me. My only real complaint is that if you have good rhythm and understand the game it gets very very easy. The BPM tower is a fun challenge but I would love a turbo mode for the main game.
I'd also love if there were other weapons with different rhythms/polyrhythms but that's probably too hard for non-musicians to manage while also trying to fight.

Doesn't the game also slow down your attacks if you mistime them to make sure they hit on-beat?
All attacks hit on beat, that means your attacks and enemy attacks. That's kind of the point of the game. If you have no rhythm you can just mash and the game will still work, you'll just get shit scores and the game will rightly laugh at you.
You also have to dodge on-beat if you want to chain 3 dodges (there's some neat tech where proper timing lets you cancel the end of the last dash into an attack and then back into dash 1)
I understand that the game wants you to attack on-beat but altering your attack speed on a whim seems like a terrible thing for an action game. Imagine playing Dark Souls and a swing of your sword could take anywhere between 15 and 60 frames at nigh-random. It's overly forceful in trying to get you to play the way it wants. Lowering your damage or just giving the lower scores would incentivize the player to time their attacks properly without fricking with the game feel.

The BPM rush is fun. Power up tower up is ok, neat premise but you start off really weak and there is not enough of a penalty for failing.

Arcade mode is just stricter Rhythm Tower with buffs inbetween. Costumes are novel, still no added moves for Chai sadly.
You do get 2 new special moves but they're gimmicky.

repeated playthroughs have some QoL issues, you can't skip a lot of the in-game dialogue so the earlier stages drag at the points where normally you'd be getting a new ability.
Rhythm Tower is a fun challenge and BPM tower is an even harder challenge if you really want to push yourself. Getting the gold guitar for 100% completion isn't that hard outside of S-ranking rhythm tower twice but it can be a bit tedious since you need to all-S every difficulty.
Do harder difficulties stack, because S-ranking on Easy is actually annoying compared to Hard.
No, I really wish you could just all-S rhythm master but you need to do all the difficulties individually
Oh, and if you haven't already done so there's secret missions you have to do to unlock the "true ending"

It was polished well with no bugs. It didn’t last too long. The pacing was perfect, the last 2 missions and bosses were the best and the story came to a great climax.
30 bucks, 15 hours, will live in my head longer than any other game in the last decade
Honestly I think it set the bar too high for my expectations of new games. Hopefully it gets a good sequel.
As a huge Space Channel 5 fan, Korsica's fight made me really nostalgic and happy but also really mad at Sega for continuing to sit on the IP
