reminder that those unfortunate people who spent a decade reverse engineering this entire game in the shitty 7th gen Skyrim engine are on suicide watch now because of the Remaster leak. Bethesda will offer Oblivion with better graphics and more faithful gameplay than their vaporware project. I've been quite annoyed with them for years now but even I feel sorry for them at this point.
    >waste your life to add basic shadowmask shadows and motion blur to Oblivion
    >while ruining its gameplay and UI by using Skyrim as a foundation
    >after an eternity for once the IP owners actually wake up and give the fans what they want so nobody will ever touch your broken mod once you release it
    >still have to pretend like what you're doing makes sense to at least release *something* or you would have to face the sunk cost right now. better to run from that realization for as long as possible.

I still expect them to just cancel the project as their free labor will dry up. once the randos who have been doing the grunt work understand that a Remaster is coming before the project can finish there is no more prospect of a full release. that'll be that. again I honestly feel sorry for them now.

      Is Todd...the bad guy?

Todd is lawful evil, he just makes money and doesn't care about anything else.

Meanwhile the Skyblivion modders are chaotic evil. They look at Oblivion and say
        >you know what this needs? Skyrim's sloppy gameplay, washed out visual style and soulless, flat UI.
        THAT is evil.

        >more faithful gameplay than their vaporware project
you can't be this delusional, can't you?

mate, they are literally using Skyrim's gameplay and s o y rim fans are praising them for it. It's the most bizarre mod project ever once you really take a close look.

Skyrim is literally just an improved version of Oblivion's shit gameplay.

I guess that's ONE thing Skyrim sort of fricked up.

              >can't run fast
              >can't jump high
              >content all compressed in the main quest and mages guild, everything else is barebones copy paste slop
              >the parts of Oblivion that needed improvement the most got the least improvement, if any, such as size of cities, number of NPCs, level scaling, melee mechanics...
              >added anti-fun garbage like dragon (braindead damage sponge) encounters that repeat over and over
              >gutted RPG mechanics and lots of broken stats not doing what the label says so you waste points and end up underleveled if you don't get lucky or autism-hoover the forums / wikis

the absolute highest praise that could in any way be objective would be that it's in some way "slicker" than Oblivion, like "more cinematic" or whatever. but basically it's a sidegrade if you used an un-fun playstyle in Oblivion and insulting garbage if you had fun in Oblivion.

Wasn't talking about the quests, I was talking about the actual minute-to-minute experience, also known as "gameplay".

                >the actual minute-to-minute experience
you mean picking things up and then trying to sell them but the vendor doesn't have enough cash? because that or loading screens are like 80% of Skyrim. not that Oblivion did any better in this regard.

I don't feel bad for ~~criminal~~ moronic scum. That project never had any merit.

A Morrowind -> Oblivion conversion I can at least see the appeal of, because A) the world/story being converted has merit, and B) the Oblivion engine added a bunch of features that Morrowind didn't have, instead of simply dumbing things down. (Coincidentally, I think Morroblivion was/is one of the few of these conversion mods that actually got close to full completion)

Its a cool game but its pretty clear that Bethesda just can't handle any kind of scale in their games. I'm not asking for realism, but this game could definitely do with an extra 100-200 npcs.

they most likely got burned by daggerfall and got spooked. all bethesda games since then lack scale

Go play Witcher 3 and look at how many townsfolk there are fricking around in any hamlet. There are more npcs in a single village in Witcher than the entirety of every Bethesda game past Daggerfall. Imagine if these devs somehow worked together, CDPR on the important shit, Bethesda on the lore. Goddamn.

Bethesda prefers to go much smaller with more in-depth npcs. I actually prefer the Bethesda way of doing it but it still needs like double the amount of npcs it has to be at all convincing.

i just accept it as part of Bethesda's time/space contraction. Everything they do is on 1:8 scale.

Zoomers don't even know Oblivion. Oblivion came out in 2006 when the very oldest zoomers were 10 and a third of all zoomers weren't even born yet.
