the legion cant travel to new worlds (illidan broke their keystone making the portal to argus), cant respawn (argus is dead), and all their leaders are dead (not just sargeras, but also archimonde, kj, and the rest of the head eredars). all thats left of the legion are some individual scattered planets. they are absolutely destroyed

Fyrakk, Dragonflight's final boss, was terribly set up and he ended up being less impressive than Elisande, who is one of the more memorable bad guys in WoW and she's not even the final boss of her own raid.
I don't know what the frick they were thinking having the Legion expansion not be the last one. Sargeras is probably going to return at some later date, but it seems like he should be the last thing that shows up in the entire timeline. The ultimate threat that spells the end of the overarching story. The nature of an MMO fricks with the writing so bad. There can never be an ending, and the players always have to defeat the big bad in the final raid. The writers then have to pull some bullshit out of their asses so that you can get a new expansion, and what replaces the old is always worse. Why the frick would you sacrifice the Lich King for the sake of the Jailor, when the Lich King could've had a prominent role in Shadowlands that would be more satisfying? Why create a Not-Lich King who you try to superimpose on the entire story, when Bolvar was already there and had been built up from previous expansions?
The Titan MMO failed, the survival game is in development hell, Overwatch League failed, Diablo is shaky, WoW is their biggest, most reliable source of income. The show has to go on, even if it should have been put out to pasture years ago

WoW2 is predominantly the death of WoW1 which is exactly what I want. Other than that it would be nice to see a new version of WoW with updated gameplay and graphics, maybe they could build it in a different way that doesn't have the same shitty loop of going into instances to get gear that is obsolete in a month. WoW has so much dead content due to vertical progression it's insane, leveling is a total incoherent nightmare and most people just level in dungeons without even knowing where the dungeons are located or why they exist so there are very few people in the actual world of Warcraft. It needs a fresh beginning where all the remnants of the past is destroyed, a new Warcraft for a new generation of players.

Hitting or missing attacks should depend on if the attack animations so you can move out of the way. Auto attacks are also an outdated thing that should be replaced with manual attacks.

You're missing the point, WoW will never be Dark Souls but it can have more intricate gameplay that doesn't leave most of its damage calculations up to chance. Gone are the days where the pig will hit you no matter how you move your character unless you pop sprint and run over 15 yards away from it, you could simply dodge the attack.
I stopped playing WoW after shadowlands and refuse to come back until they make WoW2 on a new engine. I'm tired of the old assets and engine limitations.
They don't even have to delete old WoW, just do it like RS and have 2 games running. They already do it with classic vs retail.
my biggest gripe with retail is the lack of consistency in damage, the lack of value in many things, dead arena pvp due shuffle, and most importantly the shitty zoomer UI that was the final straw. I absolutely detest the new UI. there's an addon to bring back the classic UI and it's a downgrade because of the inferior mini map, on an expansion made to be entirely revolving around going to your tom tom position with your dragon.
Dragonflight is the most I've played the game as I've actually stuck around for every tier and even started mythic prog this tier with some friends (shout out to tindral what a terrible fight, but if the rest of the raid was difficult we wouldnt be here yet). I'm probably going to play at least one of these before I'm forced to get my life together. It seems odd as much as I hate the game I can't stay away because it technically does everything I want it to gameplay wise. The only real competitor to wow's gameplay would have been Wildstar if it lasted, or TERA if it got a little bit of a makeover. And while I don't ever agree with the gear treadmill dogshit, it's the gameplay itself that keeps bringing me back.

It always annoyed me how the attack animations in WoW don't matter at all, they're just cosmetic and the actual attacks are just sets of conditions and numbers with a chance to resist, miss or crit. it was ok in 2004 but it sure as hell isn't ok 20 years later. WoW2 should let me charge my two handed mace and slam it down on the heads of my enemies and they should be able to dodge it too.
They're action-RPGs, nothing you say will change that. WoW is gonna have to adapt to compete with the Riot MMO and other action oriented MMOs that are on their way. WoW addicts that are brainwashed into thinking the gameplay is good will always have a home on classic realms and private servers.

They don't need to do anything spectacular in order to revolutionize this dogshit genre, all they need to do is to make a game that doesn't play like an old shit from 2005 and give it a wealth of content, the League of Legends brand name will do the rest. My suspicion is that they canned their survival mmo for WoW2
MMO players need to learn to let go, a lot of them did while playing private servers and classic seasons. They'll soon realize that starting over on a fresh server/game is a good thing, it's way healthier than keeping a hoarding mentality and more fun.
I don't think having any baggage carry over from the old game would be a good thing, maybe a title that says how many years you've wasted in WoW could work just to have something. There's more value in wiping the slate clean and starting fresh, players will get to accumulate new things soon enough.
I think the secret sauce for another MMO to take the title from WoW is raiding made more accessible, or more accurately, have less investment
Mythic raiding is a months-long commitment that requires constant play for 1-2 months followed by raidlogging for 6-9 hours a week minimum over the rest of the patch. I could 100% see another game try a system where raids are only 2 or 3 bosses long, maybe even a single boss. Gearing would primarily be done outside of this mini-raid, and raiding would be in shorter bursts of commitment, 1.5 months maximum from start to finish. It would be about as difficult as end WoW Mythic raiding, but skip the timewasting of 5-7 weak bosses and reclear gearing.
Combine this with smaller Mythic-difficulty raid sizes and you've got Mythic raiding in a way the modern moron can be interested in.
I think the secret sauce is to abandon M+, raiding and instances all together. MMOs need to head in a different direction if they want to draw in new audiences, most people don't care for the grind and want games to be games instead of work.
Most gamers are addicted to the dopamine drip of progression systems these days. They've infected basically every genre at this point. Grinding is the game for these people.
A progression system doesn't have to be grindy, it doesn't need weekly lockouts or other time-gates. Those things only exist to keep people paying their montly fees to the determent of the game itself.
If Wrath launched current year it'd also be 3 expansions this is just desperation at this point they'll squeeze every goddamned cent from the stupid morons who support that dogshit company

It isn't just the endgame, most players just sit in a town queuing for dungeons all the way to max level, when they venture out in the world they barely see anyone because they're all flying to their next destination on their flying mounts.
The game is fricked beyond repair, they've made design decisions they can't undo.
They finally got rid of most of the annoying affixes which took them long enough, but great move and unsurprisingly participation significantly increased

There's frickall left because Blizzard is fricking horrible at setting up characters. Antagonists are almost never, ever set up in advance, or are set up poorly.
Fyrakk, Dragonflight's final boss, was terribly set up and he ended up being less impressive than Elisande, who is one of the more memorable bad guys in WoW and she's not even the final boss of her own raid.
The only thing memorable about Elisande was the trinket she dropped.

I don't know what the frick they were thinking having the Legion expansion not be the last one. Sargeras is probably going to return at some later date, but it seems like he should be the last thing that shows up in the entire timeline. The ultimate threat that spells the end of the overarching story. The nature of an MMO fricks with the writing so bad. There can never be an ending, and the players always have to defeat the big bad in the final raid. The writers then have to pull some bullshit out of their asses so that you can get a new expansion, and what replaces the old is always worse. Why the frick would you sacrifice the Lich King for the sake of the Jailor, when the Lich King could've had a prominent role in Shadowlands that would be more satisfying? Why create a Not-Lich King who you try to superimpose on the entire story, when Bolvar was already there and had been built up from previous expansions?
The Titan MMO failed, the survival game is in development hell, Overwatch League failed, Diablo is shaky, WoW is their biggest, most reliable source of income. The show has to go on, even if it should have been put out to pasture years ago

You're missing the point, WoW will never be Dark Souls but it can have more intricate gameplay that doesn't leave most of its damage calculations up to chance. Gone are the days where the pig will hit you no matter how you move your character unless you pop sprint and run over 15 yards away from it, you could simply dodge the attack.
What does that mean? It would obviously still be about running around fighting, throwing spells at each other, that's certainly action

I stopped playing WoW after shadowlands and refuse to come back until they make WoW2 on a new engine. I'm tired of the old assets and engine limitations.
They don't even have to delete old WoW, just do it like RS and have 2 games running. They already do it with classic vs retail.
my biggest gripe with retail is the lack of consistency in damage, the lack of value in many things, dead arena pvp due shuffle, and most importantly the shitty zoomer UI that was the final straw. I absolutely detest the new UI. there's an addon to bring back the classic UI and it's a downgrade because of the inferior mini map, on an expansion made to be entirely revolving around going to your tom tom position with your dragon.
Dragonflight is the most I've played the game as I've actually stuck around for every tier and even started mythic prog this tier with some friends (shout out to tindral what a terrible fight, but if the rest of the raid was difficult we wouldnt be here yet). I'm probably going to play at least one of these before I'm forced to get my life together. It seems odd as much as I hate the game I can't stay away because it technically does everything I want it to gameplay wise. The only real competitor to wow's gameplay would have been Wildstar if it lasted, or TERA if it got a little bit of a makeover. And while I don't ever agree with the gear treadmill dogshit, it's the gameplay itself that keeps bringing me back.

It always annoyed me how the attack animations in WoW don't matter at all, they're just cosmetic and the actual attacks are just sets of conditions and numbers with a chance to resist, miss or crit. it was ok in 2004 but it sure as hell isn't ok 20 years later. WoW2 should let me charge my two handed mace and slam it down on the heads of my enemies and they should be able to dodge it too.

The mcu model isn’t what’s causing fatigue it’s the fact they finished their specific story and are now trying to keep people invested in less resonant story lines + inserting dei at the expense of story. People still want gigantic universes with epic fleshed out stories and pay offs years in the making, which mmos are uniquely well suited to do in the video game world

I don't think having any baggage carry over from the old game would be a good thing, maybe a title that says how many years you've wasted in WoW could work just to have something. There's more value in wiping the slate clean and starting fresh, players will get to accumulate new things soon enough.

Mythic raiding is a months-long commitment that requires constant play for 1-2 months followed by raidlogging for 6-9 hours a week minimum over the rest of the patch. I could 100% see another game try a system where raids are only 2 or 3 bosses long, maybe even a single boss. Gearing would primarily be done outside of this mini-raid, and raiding would be in shorter bursts of commitment, 1.5 months maximum from start to finish. It would be about as difficult as end WoW Mythic raiding, but skip the timewasting of 5-7 weak bosses and reclear gearing.
Combine this with smaller Mythic-difficulty raid sizes and you've got Mythic raiding in a way the modern moron can be interested in.
I think the secret sauce is to abandon M+, raiding and instances all together. MMOs need to head in a different direction if they want to draw in new audiences, most people don't care for the grind and want games to be games instead of work.

M+ is actually pretty fun, this is coming from someone that hasn't touched wow since cata.
That's great but this is supposed to be an MMORPG, not a multiplayer lobby game where you queue for the same few 5-man instances every day. The World of Warcraft feels smaller than ever.
This expac had plenty of overworld stuff to do, still does even. m+ is only apart of the end game stuff you can do, raids still works the same way as they did before.
It isn't just the endgame, most players just sit in a town queuing for dungeons all the way to max level, when they venture out in the world they barely see anyone because they're all flying to their next destination on their flying mounts.
The game is fricked beyond repair, they've made design decisions they can't undo.

It's something new, WoW players crave new things because their game is shit so they'll jump on anything while it's fresh if only for a little while. It will die out soon enough just like all their other classic realms.
