What Blizzard did to WarCraft 3 is one of the greatest unpunished crimes in vidya history, they fricking managed to rape my childhood posthumously and made sure that future generations will never experience the true joy of Warcraft 3 ever again. I will never not be mad. That entire company and everyone involved need to be burned at the stake. Seriously, words cannot describe my anger. I experienced the silver age of Warcraft 3, it was really good, the patches before Reforged were so goddamn good and the new features were great and then they raped and murdered it.
Warcraft 3 is barely even an RTS. It doesn't really play like an RTS, it's closer to a MOBA than something like Brood War. Everything that MOBAs became can be traced back to it and it alone
The best thing about Warcraft 3 was always using it to play something else. The actual RTS is overbearing with way too much micro bullshit, active abilities on way too many units and a laughable attempt to keep it all in check with the no fun allowed upkeep system, making it even more confusing for casual players.
Dota killed it because only turbo autists wanted to play the actual RTS with features like that. Compared to League this sounds insane but dota was the streamlined option for normies back then.
Every good RTS has its unique gimmick, WC3 had the hero-centric gameplay which was later popularized by ASShomosexualS. Hardly its fault. Starcraft’s gimmick is APM which is extremely generic.
StarCraft's gimmick was 3 unique races and a unique sci-fi aesthetic, but Koreans fricking ruined everything and now Starcraft is only supposed to be "played" (note: not enjoyed) by hyperspastics.
moron, starcraft was much more than apm before fricking asiatics ruined it with e-sports, perfect blend between macro game and micro game, acomplishes the best of both worlds
I mean if you think about it, Blizzard raped Warcraft doubly: One with the MMO, which increasingly fricked up and retconned the lore as it went on and second of course with Reforged. And Warcraft was their foundation as a company, the word is in the name of their biggest franchise for frick's sake.
Activision really killed the company. In more ways than one.
playing the campaigns of Warcraft 3 with the new graphics is an objectively better experience, and the graphics can now also be toggled to the classic version
custom games are in and functioning, outside of some UI bugs here and there Reforged is now the go-to for most fans, the game isn't dead, its just not a huge property anymore
Dota and consoles killed RTS.
7th gen saw the consolification of every genre. RTS couldn’t be dumbed down, and it died along with sims, RTS and ironically MMORPGs.
Explain why I still enjoy RTS games.
It's not dead, there are simply fewer studios making them, which is fine seeing as all the good ones have been made already.
RTS isn't dead at all.
I don't have Reforged. I would never give them money for that abomination.
Yeah the UI is kinda fricked but it's at least semi-functional.
32GB is nothing, I have 8TB storage.
man, I got TFT when it was new and played through that campaign, but I had to wait months for the new episodes to come out via patch. That was my first experience of DLC in a fricking game. And here's the thing, my version of the game or rather the scenario was screwed up. Rexxar and all the other heroes only had half the attack speed and it barely if at all increased, the campaign felt super slow and overall was much harder and I beat it anyway. I was confused as frick when I saw videos on israelitetube later where people had their heroes swinging their weapons at sanic speed. Must have been a bug from the patching.
The last RTS innovations were in 2006/2007 with Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander, after that everything went to shit, especially thanks to Blizzshart and asiaticclicker 2.
Yeah, overoptimization punishes any casual RTS player, which means casual RTS players can't really exist anymore. Esports in general is a heavy blow to gaming.
most people didnt play 1v1 comp SC. They played team games, BGH FFA, the campaign, compstomps and UMS. Even in korea. AOE2 understands this and still releases DLC that include campaigns, and have custom map support. They have someone working on the AI so its decent at skirmishes. 1v1 arabia huns only still get new stuff, but the bulk of their customer base also gets stuff.
mobas are what really did it, and the high skill floor needed to have any real fun with the games and focus on macro over micro.
I'd argue some of rts's main flaws were themselves what did it in, more casual things came along and snatched most of the crowd that would be sitting in custom maps.
RTS games were never good
They were played for custom maps and base building, which both went off and evolved into successful genres while asiaticclick micro is in the grave where it belongs
pic related could never be beaten and everyone knew it which caused RTS devs to sodoku themselves to the point where all that remained was mobas and starwarcraft
even know they say if you whisper "supreme commander" in the blizzard offices some haggard looking deskmonkey will rape the nearest intern and devour her breastmilk
Dota became a success when it was literally just the Warcraft III (casualised broodwar btw) heroes hitting npcs for 1 hour. The players are at fault and the devs are also at fault for bending the knee to investors instead of following their passion.
>it was developed to be a more relaxed RTS
It wasnt. they had to make individual units stronger to compensate for it being 3d, and therefore there being less units on a screen. They changed shit because making the same game every time is boring and gets you diminishing returns. And elitists wont buy it anyway >make SCBW clone >ugh, they changed something, ill stick with broodwar >they change the game >is that a change?! AHHH GATEWAYMAN SAVE ME!
>make SCBW clone >ugh, they changed something, ill stick with broodwar
That's what they tried to do with SC2 but the talent was gone from the company. You don't understand how excited us fans were for that game and they butchered.
>You don't understand how excited us fans were for that game and they butchered.
I was there. I remember every time they said they changed anything everyone was just crying. OMGZ, you removed the dragoon? How will protoss ever recover? What do you mean youre making a new game, I just want all the old units to come back. Control more than 12 units? The humanity. There is no way those macro busywork changes will ever compensate. Youre changing the carrier into a dark templar one that has strong anti-ground shields but no AA shields, but wraiths suck against carriers. No, I cannot comprehend that other units are introduced that changes the matchup completely.
Hardcore RTSBlack folk are subhumans. They demand the game to be super hardcore and neverchanging, but at the same time cry about ladder anxiety and the new games not being different.
You want to know a secret? Most people play the campaigns, they play against AI, they play team matches. Most people dont care about laddering or Esports. A game like broodwar happened because blizzard tried out new stuff. It was supposed to be a small inbetween game to fill the gap between WC2 and 3. They decided to try out new stuff like 3 completely different factions. Its a combination of trying out stuff, talent and being lucky.
You morons are all the same. You can see it with stormgate as well. Everyone is hoping it becomes the next big thing. Im sure it will be a decent RTS that is polished and people play for a few years before moving on. But it is unlikely it will be bottled lightning. And RTS elitists will sit in a corner and cry its not exactly what they wanted.

I don't remember SC2 having any bad reception until it launched.

I followed the development logs and developer games and the comments. It was filled with morons and naysayers. As for the release, battlenet 2.0 sucked. Always online sucked. The custom games section sucked. The story was complete assrape. And a ton of other things I forgot.
I'm your shooter!
Hoookay!
*zepplin laugh*
no puedo apuntar bien si no me e tomado antes una cervezita!
No that was Dota and League, mainly League.
no dota did
and since dota was a custom wc3 map, warcraft 3 killed the rts genre
>dead
rts is alive and well. empire earth chads eatin good
because they're all spoiled because no one has made an RTS as good since?

It was the perfect game, RTS with some RPG. Then WoW came along and you fricking Black folk ate it up.
The best thing about Warcraft 3 was always using it to play something else. The actual RTS is overbearing with way too much micro bullshit, active abilities on way too many units and a laughable attempt to keep it all in check with the no fun allowed upkeep system, making it even more confusing for casual players.

>making it even more confusing for casual players.
You might be the only moron on the planet to have ever thought wc3 was confusing.
>The Hero mechanic, an unit that gain levels, is what make this an ASSgay!
Meds.
Also
>MOBA
Tourist-kun....

>closer to a MOBA
can we genocide gen z please holy frick

>generations will never experience the true joy of Warcraft 3 ever again.
You can pirate the original game, moron
I'm talking about the average audience you dipshit

RTS isn't dead at all.
Even 20 years later I still boot up this game and jump into 4v4. Never a dull moment.
>worse graphics
>voice actors replaced
>humorous lines removed
>bloated file size
yeah, real fun.
I don't have Reforged. I would never give them money for that abomination.
Yeah the UI is kinda fricked but it's at least semi-functional.

Rexxar campaign unironically killed RTS Warcraft
man, I got TFT when it was new and played through that campaign, but I had to wait months for the new episodes to come out via patch. That was my first experience of DLC in a fricking game. Devs killed RTS by refusing to make a single change to the RTS formula in 30 years. Even FPS games have changed, just look at battle royale shit.
The last RTS innovations were in 2006/2007 with Company of Heroes and Supreme Commander, after that everything went to shit, especially thanks to Blizzshart and asiaticclicker 2.
I prefer a good genre to stay niche/dead if that means it remains unchanged with shit changes like what they did with fps games.
For me I think esports killed RTS
Playing is fine when your just goofing off and the other player is also goofing off
But since SC you're expected to be some 1000 APM sweatlord like all the koreans to not get dumpstered on
It became a pro niche thing instead of a staple genre
Yeah, overoptimization punishes any casual RTS player, which means casual RTS players can't really exist anymore. Esports in general is a heavy blow to gaming.
Over optimization along with esoteric manipulations ruined my fun in rts comp. Both BW and WC3 have their own issues with it.

Spellforce 3 Reforced is great spiritual successor and I'm tired of pretending it's not
This scares the RTS fan.
It should scare anyone but paypiggies
why is every rts anon a confused fool?
I liked WC3 and WoW. Frick you instead gay.
>KOTG just stands there while acolytes surround him
>doesnt skill treants that would just slap the acolytes
I do love the SLAP attack sound though
Did he go afk? Wtf was that reaction speed he had full 7 seconds to move his KOTG after his archer got attacked by lich
knew it was over, or was convinced it was and rage afked to waste time
mobas are what really did it, and the high skill floor needed to have any real fun with the games and focus on macro over micro.

You're nothing if not consistent homie.
The players did.
Dota became a success when it was literally just the Warcraft III (casualised broodwar btw) heroes hitting npcs for 1 hour. The players are at fault and the devs are also at fault for bending the knee to investors instead of following their passion.
>Warcraft III (casualised broodwar btw
Its literally what it was, it was developed to be a more relaxed RTS with heroes taking the main stage alongside RPG elements.
Pretty boring, no idea how DOTA even became so popular when the vanilla game was already boring as af.
>it was developed to be a more relaxed RTS
It wasnt. they had to make individual units stronger to compensate for it being 3d, and therefore there being less units on a screen. They changed shit because making the same game every time is boring and gets you diminishing returns. And elitists wont buy it anyway

Warcraft III killed the RTS genre.
>hero focus
>birthplace of DOTA
>an entire end-game army can consist of fewer than a dozen units
it was 100% League
remember DoW 3? no you fricking don't
God I want a WarCraft 4 so badly. I know it'll never happen because of WoW, but dammit.
