Yeah, the rise maps are designed to fight monsters in, world's maps are designed to follow scout flies into cutscene set pieces, but the hunts ends up being chasing rathalos thorugh multiple ilvls or a fricking elder dragon getting stuck in a transitional hallway for way too long, also tripping on every single short ledge shoved onto every inch of the map was peak dogshit design.
Sony is the only one that has the trailer in 1440 and 4k. It was the stream quality.

my Steam Deck runs RE4 better than my desktop. my desktop is also from 2014 though kek. legit fricking love this thing. looking forward to DD2 on it. DD:DA is a lot of fun on deck, and so is the MH series in general.
RE Engine games are AMD sponsored now so it should run fine on Deck. Capcom has been pushing Deck a lot recently they made World deck verified with valves approval and have ads setup in Japan of Sunbreak playing on deck better than Switch due to 60fps.
I liked both World/IB and Rise/SB so I'm excited. For now though, DD2 is the next main thing on my plate and I don't expect that we'll hear more about MH6 until the summer. We'll likely get a demo as usual at some point though. I wonder if this will be early or late 2025?

Depends on how well it's marketed and approached. A big part of that is them showing it at VGA, they have to keep it up at every big gaming event until release. Part of what helped push World to great heights was the amazing marketing. That and you had people telling their friends it's like Dark Souls or hey that one youtuber/twitch streamer talked about it! Now they can pivot hard into OPEN WORLD, I wouldn't be surprised if people bought World expecting it to be open world and stopping upon realizing it's just open segmented areas.

tbf its not how the monster hunter games play despite being called hunter. You find the boss, you fight it, it retreats giving you a break to craft/sharpen/heal, you go find it again, repeat until you kill it. I wouldn't call that hunting. Actual hunting sucks, you wait forever at a camp where you think something might show up and then you one shot it from over a thousand feet away. If it didn't die immediately it's just gonna run and bleed out anyway.
Hunting in MH is essentially answering the question of what it would be like to hunt down a bear using only machete and wearing pic related.
Pretty much, the old games treated the maps as arenas and not really "hunting" per say. But sadly the damn title is making a bunch of people from the west demanding this when it was never about realism or whatever. Hell some of the really older games had more survival aspects that were later removed as being too harsh or inconvenient the handheld player. But changing it back on consoles doesn't change that.
Dos really tried, limited as it was. Portable 2nd and 2G exploding so much pretty much altered the entire direction of the franchise to be designed around lunch breaks and train rides for the Japanese.
Tri was the last gasp of the 1, 1G, Dos style but they wasted so much resources on swimming. Then Portable 3rd becoming the best selling MonHun ever made sure that we wouldn't get the ecology and development world they were trying to build in mainline. 3G turned Tri into a handheld style title and 4 remained handheld style.
Yep, I like the portable games as they were but I really do miss that old style.

World probably could have gotten it down, but it still utilized 4th gen mechanics for the weapons going so far as to include things from arts and styles into base weapon systems and then moving other parts of arts and styles to the mantles.
I don't think Monster Hunter will ever achieve what they originally wanted to do siply because it'll never shake the changes to the formula that were made specifically for Portable releases.
I wouldn't be surprised if seasons make it to 6, but it'll probably just be aesthetic.
Yeah, I think people want it to be more like the Witcher 3 which is why it's going open world. I can't wait for the player character to kneel down in front of a giant footprint and wrecked trees and say " scales, green, smell of copper... Part of the appeal of the old world games for me was the fact that for its time they felt more open than most games, even with loading screens. The idea of exploration and gathering was always a huge part of the hunt and it was clear they were working within their limitations until they took the focus away from it. This looks like it'll be the core concept of surviving in treacherous territory those games tried fully realized. I don't see how it doesn't benefit from open world from that angle, it might be the one series that can potentially do it the best.

It definitely got delayed. Honestly TGA was so luckluster they needed something and probably took a lot of convincing to get Capcom's permission to reveal this. Everything about the trailer screams not even close to being fricking ready yet.
It does have TAA and i think it added DLSS support later which was pointless because the game already ran at 300 fps on a 1060 because it was a barebones switch port.
I don't mind the mounts as long as they don't join the fight and you can't use them while you're fighting, like sharpening or drinking potions while mounted while aggroed by the monster.
Then again, it will make running from a monster impossible while mounted. I don't know how to optimize this idea.
I want to believe capcom will release some sort of collection or remaster of the old games this year... It would be utterly moronic for them to not release anything MH related on its 20th anniversary.

unpopular opinion: i don’t really like it when 2 or more monsters fight. they just end up pushing and sliding around like the floor is ice and the geometry is just a suggestion. like blos will charge pukei and it’ll slide across floor while playing the falling down animation, it looks stupid as frick. it’s also not very fun especially with some monster pairs with gigantic attacking hitboxes, where you’re stuck underneath two models clipping through each other wondering what the frick is going on

I could never get into MH. The psp and ds games force you to pick flowers and craft soup or something for the first 3 hours instead of hunting actual monsters and in World the weapons are too slow and it takes around 30 minutes to kill a single monster with 3 other people around.

Open worlds always sound so cool until you realize that loading screen was covering up the boring slog of emptiness that open worlds are and that with smaller zones the devs can focus all their time and effort into them to make them as nice as possible vs giant empty plains and fields.
It's okay. You'll fast travel to points of interest and then glide down to your target like every other open world game after you've explored it once or twice.

Going completely open world sounds like something completely against the entire gamepaly loop of MH.
That's what I expect, basically World style 'open' maps but bigger and removing the between-area corridors so it's open area against open area. The numbered regions would really just be for location purposes and not as distinct as they currently are.

This sounds worse. I'd rather they go all in on open world and try and make something interesting rather than recreate Gen 5 but with bigger/longer corridors. If it's more "search poop for scoutflies to lead you to the arena" it'll be fricking trash, especially if it now takes 5 minutes for scoutflies to do their damn job.

World's launch was atrocious and buggy. I remember the drivers they prepared for day -1 also caused the game to run at like 18fps for many people and rolling the drivers back massively improved frames.
You could get by with a 970 iirc and the rest was on capcom to fix.

The biggest issue is that changing settings didn't really do much, maybe a 20% fps difference between max and low
You needed a 1060 minimum to run at 60fps and the performance on anything weaker rapidly fell off a cliff

The trailer is actually full of recycled assets from different Capcom games from the last couple of years actually, Capcom is pretty good at reusing parts of their games between titles and turning them into new things
You'd have to find an armor skill setup that gives you everything you want for both weapons. I don't see why that part would change. It'd be part of the trade-off for having two weapons you can swap between in the first place.

And that is your decision. It's part of the freedom you have to specialize in that one weapon as opposed to branching out and using two. A system like that wouldn't restrict you by forcing you to use a second weapon like how Skill Switch Swap doesn't require you switch, or by allowing you to put a very similar setup on the swap.
And who are you to say they won't introduce new skills that benefit weapon swapping, like increased attack/affinity after a switch? It's not as black and white as you might think.

Well sets in Gen 5 are all typically maxing a lot of common stats, so there's a lot of crossover. Probably come down to choosing a generalist build that both weapons benefit from, focusing one weapon to maximize while the second weapon is niche, or choosing weapons that both benefit from a single build.
Alternatively, the mount might act as a camplite in that you can change sets as well as weapons, or at least decos.

Whatever, so long as the gameplay isn't bland and newcomer monsters aren't forgettable with shitty bare minimum move pools like World's, I'm all for whatever Wild brings.
As long as the teams are communicating to ensure good aspects of one branch of the series also show up in the other (assuming it's relevant) then it's not huge issue. I wouldn't want Wirebugs and Silkbinds in Wilds, but if Switch Skills (not the swap) don't show up I'll be a disappointed.
But 2 branches of the series gives them more room to develop different aspects of the game. Portable as a more low downtime action focused branch while World+ focuses on the immersive and cinematic aspects.
Gonna laugh my ass off if portable 6th actually comes up first as a switch 2 launch title or something

Yeah, the rise maps are designed to fight monsters in, world's maps are designed to follow scout flies into cutscene set pieces, but the hunts ends up being chasing rathalos thorugh multiple ilvls or a fricking elder dragon getting stuck in a transitional hallway for way too long, also tripping on every single short ledge shoved onto every inch of the map was peak dogshit design.
Sony is the only one that has the trailer in 1440 and 4k. It was the stream quality.

I will say that the idea of HUNTING monsters, not fighting monsters, is what initially hooked me on this franchise almost 20 years ago.
Given the hunting aspect has traditionally been extremely undercooked, I think they can pull off something great here, an actual evolution of the franchise. What worries me much more are the graphics, it looks kinda shockingly bad.

my Steam Deck runs RE4 better than my desktop. my desktop is also from 2014 though kek. legit fricking love this thing. looking forward to DD2 on it. DD:DA is a lot of fun on deck, and so is the MH series in general.

RE Engine games are AMD sponsored now so it should run fine on Deck. Capcom has been pushing Deck a lot recently they made World deck verified with valves approval and have ads setup in Japan of Sunbreak playing on deck better than Switch due to 60fps.
I liked both World/IB and Rise/SB so I'm excited. For now though, DD2 is the next main thing on my plate and I don't expect that we'll hear more about MH6 until the summer. We'll likely get a demo as usual at some point though. I wonder if this will be early or late 2025?

Depends on how well it's marketed and approached. A big part of that is them showing it at VGA, they have to keep it up at every big gaming event until release. Part of what helped push World to great heights was the amazing marketing. That and you had people telling their friends it's like Dark Souls or hey that one youtuber/twitch streamer talked about it! Now they can pivot hard into OPEN WORLD, I wouldn't be surprised if people bought World expecting it to be open world and stopping upon realizing it's just open segmented areas.

I don't see how open world really benefits mh. I guess there's gonna be a lot of fleeing monsters that you have to track down all over the place. Maybe they are going to get rid of timers and misions will just be up on a bounty board.

On paper it sounds nice and in concept would make the game "better" but so many open world games take the path of least resistance and when it comes to grinding, elements that would make it a true quote on quote hunting game will make it get tedious very fast.

tbf its not how the monster hunter games play despite being called hunter. You find the boss, you fight it, it retreats giving you a break to craft/sharpen/heal, you go find it again, repeat until you kill it. I wouldn't call that hunting. Actual hunting sucks, you wait forever at a camp where you think something might show up and then you one shot it from over a thousand feet away. If it didn't die immediately it's just gonna run and bleed out anyway.
Hunting in MH is essentially answering the question of what it would be like to hunt down a bear using only machete and wearing pic related.
Pretty much, the old games treated the maps as arenas and not really "hunting" per say. But sadly the damn title is making a bunch of people from the west demanding this when it was never about realism or whatever. Hell some of the really older games had more survival aspects that were later removed as being too harsh or inconvenient the handheld player. But changing it back on consoles doesn't change that.
Dos really tried, limited as it was. Portable 2nd and 2G exploding so much pretty much altered the entire direction of the franchise to be designed around lunch breaks and train rides for the Japanese.
Tri was the last gasp of the 1, 1G, Dos style but they wasted so much resources on swimming. Then Portable 3rd becoming the best selling MonHun ever made sure that we wouldn't get the ecology and development world they were trying to build in mainline. 3G turned Tri into a handheld style title and 4 remained handheld style.
Yep, I like the portable games as they were but I really do miss that old style.
World probably could have gotten it down, but it still utilized 4th gen mechanics for the weapons going so far as to include things from arts and styles into base weapon systems and then moving other parts of arts and styles to the mantles.
I don't think Monster Hunter will ever achieve what they originally wanted to do siply because it'll never shake the changes to the formula that were made specifically for Portable releases.
I wouldn't be surprised if seasons make it to 6, but it'll probably just be aesthetic.
Yeah, I think people want it to be more like the Witcher 3 which is why it's going open world. I can't wait for the player character to kneel down in front of a giant footprint and wrecked trees and say " scales, green, smell of copper... Part of the appeal of the old world games for me was the fact that for its time they felt more open than most games, even with loading screens. The idea of exploration and gathering was always a huge part of the hunt and it was clear they were working within their limitations until they took the focus away from it. This looks like it'll be the core concept of surviving in treacherous territory those games tried fully realized. I don't see how it doesn't benefit from open world from that angle, it might be the one series that can potentially do it the best.

unpopular opinion: i don’t really like it when 2 or more monsters fight. they just end up pushing and sliding around like the floor is ice and the geometry is just a suggestion. like blos will charge pukei and it’ll slide across floor while playing the falling down animation, it looks stupid as frick. it’s also not very fun especially with some monster pairs with gigantic attacking hitboxes, where you’re stuck underneath two models clipping through each other wondering what the frick is going on

I could never get into MH. The psp and ds games force you to pick flowers and craft soup or something for the first 3 hours instead of hunting actual monsters and in World the weapons are too slow and it takes around 30 minutes to kill a single monster with 3 other people around.

Open worlds always sound so cool until you realize that loading screen was covering up the boring slog of emptiness that open worlds are and that with smaller zones the devs can focus all their time and effort into them to make them as nice as possible vs giant empty plains and fields.

Either full open world like dragon's dogma (which I doubt) with different zones likes the Guiding lands or The Citadel OR its just different maps but really big with mixed weather and ecosystems.

That's what I expect, basically World style 'open' maps but bigger and removing the between-area corridors so it's open area against open area. The numbered regions would really just be for location purposes and not as distinct as they currently are.

This sounds worse. I'd rather they go all in on open world and try and make something interesting rather than recreate Gen 5 but with bigger/longer corridors. If it's more "search poop for scoutflies to lead you to the arena" it'll be fricking trash, especially if it now takes 5 minutes for scoutflies to do their damn job.
At least with a proper open world we might get something innovative rather than regressive.

World's launch was atrocious and buggy. I remember the drivers they prepared for day -1 also caused the game to run at like 18fps for many people and rolling the drivers back massively improved frames.
You could get by with a 970 iirc and the rest was on capcom to fix.

The biggest issue is that changing settings didn't really do much, maybe a 20% fps difference between max and low
You needed a 1060 minimum to run at 60fps and the performance on anything weaker rapidly fell off a cliff

I didn't say there is no similarity. Of course there fricking is, the game is obviously going to be in the New World. Yet also has similarities to Rise and even has a classic Rath roar. It looks like a combination of both as well as something new, not "World 2".
Ryozo also said in an interview that World is not necessarily the standard for the franchise going forward and that the most important thing was going in new directions without comparing to World. It would be moronic for him to say that and then make a literal "World 2".

The trailer is actually full of recycled assets from different Capcom games from the last couple of years actually, Capcom is pretty good at reusing parts of their games between titles and turning them into new things

They'd have to rework armour skills and move more of it to either the weapon or make armour changeable on the fly as well
You'd have to find an armor skill setup that gives you everything you want for both weapons. I don't see why that part would change. It'd be part of the trade-off for having two weapons you can swap between in the first place.

Well sets in Gen 5 are all typically maxing a lot of common stats, so there's a lot of crossover. Probably come down to choosing a generalist build that both weapons benefit from, focusing one weapon to maximize while the second weapon is niche, or choosing weapons that both benefit from a single build.
Alternatively, the mount might act as a camplite in that you can change sets as well as weapons, or at least decos.

It was specifically because of how the 3DS's 3D display worked. It performed better with bright colors that were easier to tell apart.

I think what concerns me most is that Wild's implies two different Monster Hunter are going to exist from now on given it uses the same bland font choice as World. I was hoping after Rise everything would lump into one umbrella somewhat and they WOULDN'T perpetuate the whole 'this is mainline while this is the portable version', but now I'm convinced this is Capcom's formula for Monster Hunter going forward.
Whatever, so long as the gameplay isn't bland and newcomer monsters aren't forgettable with shitty bare minimum move pools like World's, I'm all for whatever Wild brings.

As long as the teams are communicating to ensure good aspects of one branch of the series also show up in the other (assuming it's relevant) then it's not huge issue. I wouldn't want Wirebugs and Silkbinds in Wilds, but if Switch Skills (not the swap) don't show up I'll be a disappointed.
But 2 branches of the series gives them more room to develop different aspects of the game. Portable as a more low downtime action focused branch while World+ focuses on the immersive and cinematic aspects.
Unless Switch 2 is releasing in 2026, I really doubt it.
