Lol? This is not a doom clone bro, it is more intellectual and free roaming. Tekwar is based.
Why don't you zoomers even read the thread before posting? This has already been explained:
>Tekwar is based.
This is one of those lower budget sci-fi shows that I use to watch on TV. I barely remember anything about it, beyond the intro. Weird how it is memory holed in my brain.
>tekwar
this game will always be tied to my friends' failed internet service provider venture.
back in the late 90s, they wanted to start their own isp and so they rented out space in this office building where the building manager had no clue what an "isp" even was.
anyway, i would occasionally visit them and help them out and one of the guys would buy games zero-day at retail and this was one of them. he'd get angry at all of the games he bought ("oh my god! the second level is such a piece of trash! and the graphics suck! i so hate this game!") and try to give them away (his parents were absolutely loaded so blowing $50 dollars, even in 1990s money, was no big deal to him) or sell them at a steep discount. this was one of those games and i remember it distinctly.
Had ISPs not formed monopolies yet at the time?
I fucking love this game unironically. I have the boxed version and it led me to read the first three books in the series. Something about the skyscraper-heavy urban environments in the Build engine just work for me. I also thought it was so edgy as a kid that you got to pulp so many civilians lmao. Game is a fucking mess, but you just need to treat it with a slower pace.
No, I don't believe you. Maybe you love the books and the things around the game, but the gameplay is pretty bad by any measure. This board takes contrarianism to a new embarrassing level.
I never said it was good, anon. I just said that -I- enjoy it. I'm sure you like a lot of things that I don't. Not everybody has to have the same opinions of things on the internet. Some of my favorite games are janky and aren't "good" by most people's standards, but that doesn't mean you can't like them.
It's not good but it had a lot of neat ideas.
Remake of this PoS in the IonFury engine WHEN?
>in the IonFury engine
It's the same engine.
Tekwar uses a shitty very early Build version that can't even simulate water sectors and swimming - the water areas are actually hurtfloors which damage you can partially mitigate by jumping constantly
this game is bettter than it reputation suggests; gamers back then just couldn't cope with the fact that you're not supposed to shoot everyone. It wasn't until Half-Life 1 forced you to play an entire level level without guns that the average gamer got conditioned to not simply shooting every NPC they saw.
Not shooting everyone is the least of that piece of shit's problems. No contrarian e-cred for you, fagass.
>the pinnacle of entertainment software
what the hell were they thinking?
Duke 3d unironically, Blood is better
They're Build Engine games.
So fucking what?
So they're not Doom clones you spaz.
Tekwar's on Build too, you donut.
I didn't post Tekwar.. I mean.. shut up. 🙁
Yes they are, retard.
"Doom clone" is what all first-person shooters used to be called up until about the late 90s.
Another zoomer outed by his own retardation. Sad!
Hmm, I think that’s a bit longer than they were called that, I don’t remember anyone calling quake or goldeneye or 3D shooters for that matter, doomclones
Quake definitely was. But that was also around the time the term started to become displaced.
Calm down, gay, I already took the L
>up until about the late 90s
It was barely used by 1997 already since it was obvious with Dark Forces and Duke Nukem 3D that accumulated differences from Doom are enough to calla genre a new name.
Not even the worst doom clone of the 90s.
Ganker tier contrarianism.
Not him, but I agree in that Blood is better than Duke3d. I played them all near release, and I'd rank them as so:
Blood > Duke3d > Shadow warrior
Blow it out your ass
Redneck Rampage. Im no stranger to old school shooters level design but I legit got lost on first level
Nitemare 3D, by the Hugo House of Horrors guy
redneck rampage had a lot going for it and the level design and hitscan just shit all over it
good music though
operation body count was terrible, more of a wolfenstein clone though
HacX is good though. You literally go into computers. That's inventive and creative. And it has cool weapons.
More of a Wolfenstein clone, but same diff
...or was it the best?
Wolfenstein is a Doom clone
there both halos

This is one of the biggest POS I've ever played, some hilarious gore sprites though
You've never touched TekWar. It's a mournful game.
In Pursuit of Greed. They released this one in fucking 1998, when Unreal and Half-Life debuted. A 2,5D shooter running on Carmack's leftover code. At least the soundtrack by Necros is good.
I actually played and replayed the demo as a kid and loved it, lmao
what the hell is going on in that picture?
Steven Segal on steroids is kicking a Walmart Terminator
I'm closing this thread
Nice, wolf3d style but outdoors. Early FPSes avoided outdoors. I would have greatly preferred outdoors with some dungeon mazes.
i really wish this game was so much better. having point and click segements in a fps seemed like a p good idea at the time. ik realms of the haunting does it but its a bit clunky since you cant remap the controls
Duke3d by far the worst. Other build engine games also fit. They were always shit. "muh level design" is putting porn mags in levels. There is also something shitty about build engine all together that gives me headaches. I heard a new source port fixes that but I'm not sure counting source ports 2020s is fair. I certainly wouldn't want to go back to play them again.
Looks sexbots didn't come out how I expected.
OP have an instant contender for that title

Kidding? Hacx is alright by the standards of the time. Interesting story behind the development too.
Hacx is pretty hard to get a physical copy for now considering the only surviving stash of them were destroyed in the New Orleans flooding. Hacx, Perditions Gate and Hell to Pay are all pretty rare Doom II conversions/levels.
HackX is pretty fucking cool.
It was a game called Dominion or something, for DOS or Win95 from a demo disc. Absolute dog shit, you had to interract with terminals by actually typing commands into them.
