beneath the realistic exterior of bf1942 was a wacky multiplayer experience. it had terrible netcode and was laggy, and on top of this you could do crazy things with the physics. add in huge vehicles with super powerful weapons in a sandbox and it was mayhem. battlefield 2 had a better playing experience because it put limits on the mayhem and created squads and a commander, which provided direction and teamwork. the netcode was also much better

it had really good squad gameplay and people played together to utilize their roles. when i tried the newer ones people just play like it's COD deathmatch regardless of the gamemode, it's fricking lame.
the BF2 special forces expansion was awesome too. had some cool night maps.

BF2demo > BF2 > BF2142 > BF > BF3 > BF4 > BFBC > BFBC2 > BFONE
There is no other game with as good vehicles as battlefield 2. The helicopter controls and maneuvering should be sought to be emulated by every other game as it was at release. Every subsequent update to BF2 made it worse.
Simply, at its release it was wonderful and remains to be. It is a very smoothly coded product with zero lag or netcode overhead.
morons complain about not being able to spray with the machine guns but it works like CS without the dumbass spray patterns. You tap or fire in bursts, you hit.
The learning curve on AA weapons is amazing too. The chopper gunner. The co-pilot in the bombers. The blackhawk minigun. The deathhawk.
BF3 was considerably better at launch but BF4, when they fixed it up + all DLCs ended up being better, at least for me. Still a Battlefield 3.5 overall but that's not a bad thing.
Gayest anon of all time, BF2 is arguably the best and most timeless game in the series, and this becomes nearly irrefutable when taking mods into consideration.
