FFX is fine. I didn't like it, personally, when it came out. Thought the character designs were goofy (Rikku was a cutie though) and I got bored of the cutscenes and lack of gameplay after about 2 hours. And I missed Uematsu's music (though the Battle Theme is great). I might have teased kids for liking Tidus but it was all in good humor. But I thought the visuals and overall aesthetics were incredible. I don't seriously disrespect FFX fans. But I also stopped caring about the series almost entirely at this point. Outgrew it, basically.
Skyrim I found kind of boring when I first played it on PS3, and got into Dark Souls instead. But playing Skyrim on PC I really had a lot of fun and while I have lots of criticism I appreciate many things about its design.
I criticized Pillars of Eternity for some subtle shit because I'm a nerd. I think midwits overrate its systems so I like to argue about it. But I think the game itself is decent. I can't say it's the worst at anything. Tyranny I found disappointing after being sucked into the introduction, the writing got tedious and reddity. But Tyranny was never huge and popular to begin with.
Witcher 3 I passed on, looked like a generic ARPG with lots of storytelling that didn't particularly interest me. Haven't ever shat on it.
Divinity OS looked good to me and I bought it, have it in my backlog, just haven't gotten around to playing it.
BG3 meanwhile is pure, concentrated, utterly tasteless garbage. It emphasizes the worst aspects of CRPGs which is multiple-choice dialog, skill checks and animated cutscenes while coupling it with the most brain-meltingly moronic writing I have ever seen in any videogame. There's no way I would subject myself to an RPG full of this shit it no matter how great the combat is.

Oh I don't think so. NTA, but how is your opinion on BG3 being terrible a fact? Frick outta here. I haven't played it, but have you done so, gaylord? You don't like the writing one bit, fine go on and have it your way. I find it overrated to a point, but definitely its no Failout76, Redfall or Scamfield.
It really is pretty impressively bad, and something about it inspires a small cohort of very vocal and very dishonest anons to shill for it. If someone is like “yeah it’s pretty moronic and it has problems but I had a lot of fun playing it and I like it” then so be it, but there’s clearly people who got very emotionally invested in the game and cannot handle even nuanced criticism of the game without leaping into defensive shill mode. I’ve seen dozens and dozens of threads arguing about the game after it came out, and honestly I remember one (1) anon who was a fan of the game and presented intellectually honest and reasonable arguments in defense of the game, which I respected even if I disagreed with him.
I thought Dark Sun was pretty well-received and is often recommended as a hidden gem. What problems do you have with it OP, other than the usual 2nd Ed b***hing?

it's a really empty place only populated by things that were necessary for the metanarrative/books. It's the kind of shitty setting failed novelwriters make, only as a vehicle for their npc and their story, with no consideration given to it being an actual good place for players to explore world concepts
I haven't even played the dark sun games but I've read enough about the setting to see it has loads of potential.
All depends on who writes the story. In the CURRENT YEAR the strong slavery and racism themes make it unpalatable for the big players. We'd get some watered down modern meme version so I guess it's better the setting stays dead for the time being.

That's a false dichotomy. Options can be given just when they're significant. Otherwise, Fallout set an entirely reasonable standard 27 years ago. It seems like the only real limitation is developers refusing to have unvoiced characters while also skimping on the VO budget.

People enjoy those bits of character expression, even if it doesn't always lead to branching paths in the story.

I mentioned Fallout specifically because options didn't always branch but (typically excluding interrogations) would still consistently have incremental effects down the line (beyond the hackneyed "this character likes you more"). While I personally find idle fluff boring regardless, the big problem is when two separate options provoke the exact same response or are even the same line to begin with. That expression isn't happening there.
