N is a zoroark has to be one of the worst, it totally undermines the backstory of his youth as a boy raised by animals and how central that is to how he acts as a character, just for some lame le epic twist. the fact he was a feral child informs his attitudes towards nature and his naïveté about what team plasma is doing and how he's been treated by ghetsis, replacing him with an animal fundamentally tears away that human element of his character.

I hate this one a lot but not as much as Ash being in a coma and Blue's dead Raticate. I loathe the coma theory so much its unreal.
Flygon-Salamence and Dragonite-Gyarados swaps are way worse.
Former doesn't account for "Salamence" being a dragon-like name that has nothing to do with bugs like "Flygon" does, and the Bagon > Shelgon > Flygon thing only accounts for English localized names for Bagon and Shelgon. The Bagon line has no naming convention of any kind in Japanese.
Dragonair into Gyarados because they're fricking blue and Magikarp into Dragonite because they're orange just reeks of cultural moronation.
Remoraid into Octillery follows a theme of two sea creatures acting like firearms. Luvdisc into Alomomola still follows a theme of pink heart-like fish but one is hearts as in love and the other is hearts as in health as a medic, and so the pair-bonding aspect is lost if Luvdisc is THE lovey-dovey Pokemon. A Luvdisc evolution thematically would more appropriately be like Tandemaus. You gotta take into account more than just what kind of animal it is and what color it is, else you get Tauros into Bouffalant or Gligar into Drapion ideas. I can see the logic for it, but I can also see why it wouldn't work.

I dunno I think this one falls apart once the opposite (Caterpie into Venomoth) comes up. Maybe Butterfree was a concept for Venomoth that just got repurposed into an evolution of Caterpie, or maybe the opposite is true with Venonat being repurposed, but I don't think they were swapped outright.

i actually was just thinking about scyther and charizard a couple weeks ago, not like in the sense one should evolve from the other, moreso that they really compliment each other? like scyther could have been a counterpart to charizard in another life, where it didn't evolve from a starter. it has the same kind of cool factor. totally could have been a shillmon.
