Ever spending real money. Also, never use any of the free currency on the standard banner. Only use it on the featured character banner when there is a 5* character you want on it and you have enough saved to guarantee getting them.
1. Really understand what characters do, how they play and interact with each other before you roll for them much less spend resources on them
2. You'll get a whole lot of 4* characters and weapons with the free primogems the game gives you. They range from utter garbage to fricking great actually. Avoid upgrading all the shit just to "try it out". Look up a guide on what characters are viable and what weapons they should use. It's okay to read guides on this stuff.
3. Spend resin wisely and spend it often. For instance, there's no real need to farm artifact domains and ley lines until AR45+ at least. Save your petrified resins for endgame.
4. Never buy materials from the cash shop, they are all easily farmed from respawning mobs. Save your starglitter for the occasional decent direct-buy 4* weapon or character on rotation. Save your stardust for the discounted acquaint&intertwined fates (5 each) each month.
5. Just a personal opinion here, Welkin helps a lot if you enjoy the game, it's $5/month entire month and gives 90 primogems per day, a lot better than rawdogging it as pure F2P

Don't buy permanent banner pulls unless you already bought all the limited banner pulls in the Stardust section. Some people said not to even buy the permanent banner pulls at all and just save for the limit banner pulls to refresh each month. That's up to you though.
Don't waste Starglitter on anything but the characters they have available. The weapons are very niche and the rest of the items can be gained easily just from combat.
Don't roll on the weapon banner unless you are buying a Welkin and want to throw 10 at it every month because the returns on them are ridiculously bad.
Save your early pulls until a banner comes up that people are talking about or you see a character you like. You only get roughly enough pulls (About 180-200) from all the content in the entire game before you have to start relying on dailies and events. That amount of pulls is realistically enough for about 2-4 5* characters depending on how lucky you are.
Don't blow your mats leveling everyone up. Pick one character to be your "main" from what you got and use that to take you through the content along with leveling at least two other characters roughly close to that "main". The fourth character (In my opinion) isn't as important until far later on. I don't have anyone I can really throw in my team that I can work in so I've been using Yelan (5* limited)/Kaeya (Free)/Xiangling (Free) this entire time and I've only got the last area's story left and I'm completely done with the game before I finally have to start playing this as a daily game instead.
If you like the game the Welkin is worth it. It's $5 and you get 90 Primogems every day which, when added to the 60 free commission Primogems nets you 150 a day or 28 pulls a month. If you solely stay F2P then the commission Primogems mean you only get 60 a day or 11 pulls a month.

When you say 4* and 5* characters, is this how powerful they are, or just their rarity? I think I heard something about needing to upgrade the characters after you get them.
Their rarity. This isn't a typical gacha in the sense that 5* is better because it's a higher number. Some of them are great, yes, but people clear the hardest content with free 4* characters you get just by doing the story. Leveling up characters involves, well, leveling them up. You can ascend them which raises their level cap using enemy mats. You can upgrade their special attacks using other mats you get using daily Resin in certain Domains (Special combat arenas that give you special mats).
You can't upgrade a 4* to a 5*, it's not that kind of gacha.
Yeah, some of the best characters are 4* characters from launch that everyone can get because they're available in all banners. Bennet and Xingqui are two examples who dominate even whale teams because they're that good. Fischl is another one that's pretty good and Sucrose is also another good one. Don't worry too much about the rarity aspect, you really can just pull on whoever you feel appeals to you or, if you want to be more pragmatic, pull on what other people are saying is good (Like Kazuha).
I only started a month ago and I can tell you right now that while some of the endgame content is rough (Especially Enkonomiya and the Chasm) it's still been totally doable. I've only had to pass up on like two challenges because my DPS was too low, the bosses are all doable, the story is all doable, and so on. I want to say I do have a 5* character though, I was aiming for her before I even started so she's made things bit smoother, but I have a relative who also plays this who is F2P and didn't have the character and said it wasn't too bad it just took a bit longer to kill stuff.
Like the others said, it's a singleplayer game. You can tackle stuff 20+ your level without much issues. I'm still running with a level 50 character in level 70 areas.
My plan has been to make my team entirely of characters I actually like and completely ignore meta stuff. Unfortunately getting specific ones seems unlikely or in some cases impossible right now.

You will get a lot of wishes just for playing the game, exploring, opening chests and doing quests.
There are several events every patch as well which reward freemium currency.
The average wishes you can earn without paying any money every patch is around 70 to 90 primogems.

If you're worried about not having primos for good characters, you're in luck. Kazuha is an easy skip so you should be able to save enough for the next banner.
Criticisms are right though. Kazuha is still a sidegrade of Sucrose. If you want a more unique Anemo CC that fills a different niche, you'd roll Venti. Kazuha isn't a must-pull and no one should go out of their way to spend money on him.

You don't NEED him. But he is probably better than bennet for team support. You can substitute him for sucrose though, who is more clunky, isn't quite as good, but does the same sort of stuff if you really want Klee instead.

It's hard for me, but I think I'd put Bennet over Kazuha since Bennet has really strong healing and energy generation. If you've gotten strong enough that those things don't matter, sure, I could see an argument for Kazuha, but at that point you've probably basically solved the game anyhow.

Damn circle tics for like 6k for me, and it comes back so fast I never feel the need to "camp" in it, easily has 100% up time. Other than when my zhong dong with 55k hp takes damage from the wolf spirit that do % healing, but I'd be sitting forever waiting with someone like Barbara in that case.

No. I'm going to convince you to not get klee, all your attacks will miss and you will waste a lot of Stam just to get in range/position. Therefore u can't do your charged attacks properly if you don't animation cancel her autoattacks. Her builds aren't that great to make her shine you're forced to use a mono pyro build or klee vaping xingqi and or year and it is frustrating to have her vape when her fricking ult is ruining your charged attacks from vaping. Also your autos and xq rain swords have a wierd timing so it's usually xq doing the vapes. I like klee but it is not fun to build her a team to clear abyss.

Almost all 5 stars easily clear endgame. It really doesn't matter which one you get. Not too mention all the good 4 stars you'll have by the time you tackel abyss.

I started just before the recent xiao banner, ended up getting xiao since I like exploring so ended up with shitloads of primos. Also ended up with CN4 Noelle and CN2 Yanfei from pulling the banner then on the Itto banner I ended up with CN4 Shinobu (literally only character it coughed up for me) and Yanfei when paired with CN4 Shinobu as support will do more damage than Xiao against enemies that are vulnerable to overload. I ran the chaos core farming route this morning and was pushing level 80-90 ruin guards and ruin hunters over like dominos.
And now I have a ton of pity to carry over the next time I see a banner I want to pull at.
Also have a ton of alternate characters to explore and 2 5 star weapons from burning all the free acquaints.
This is with a decent number of primos wasted on 'le noob errors'

If these characters are Jean, Mona, Keqing, Qiqi, Diluc, then it's hard when you play fair because you can't save gems only for them. Sure, you can reroll for one character, realistically, but if you want more from this list, you're screwed and nobody knows when you'll get them (months, years), it's full rng.
Easy if you refrain from rolling unless you have 28k primogems. If you only roll with said amount in your inventory, you will get who you want 100% of the time. The problem is though that Genshin isn't very generous when it comes to handing out primogems. Building a stash like this is easy for new players, but once you go through the content you'll be waiting months to reach this amount. So ideally you should only roll for a new character once every couple months, making it so you only roll a handful of times each year. This is if you're completely F2P btw. You can do things like spend 5 bucks a month on welkin blessings, which give 90 gems every day. Considering its price its definitely worth it.
Also don't listen to shills saying you can clear all content with starter characters. You technically can but you need to have a high amount of constellations per character, which you won't have when you're new or not rolling gacha.
You can clear the main story content at the very least just with what you get free, and I'm talking about Enkonomiya, Chasm, etc. No cons needed, just whatever 5* artifacts you get from bosses and getting them to 70+. The Fatui and Bathyvisharps are going to be the only main issue there but even with Yelan I have trouble with both (Particularly Mirror Maidens). Like I said, I have a F2P relative and he only got a 5* like last week having already finished Mondstadt and Liyue. Spiral Abyss is the only thing that requires what you're saying. Even then you don't need to keep up with the World Levels, you can just drop it if it gets too hard. I'm not even advancing past AR 45 right now because I'm not ready yet personally. Things are already tanky as it is.
Arguably the only thing you won't be able to do until you get some better stuff is get the Divine Bridal if you up your World Level because of webm related being a pretty rough DPS check. I cleared it the next try with 5 seconds left somehow.

You go it done which is what's important. There should have been enough time to Kaeya burst, XL burst, Yelan Burst, then just auto attack. You wasted time trying to add in Yelan's other skills when all you needed was to keep applying hydro with her burst/auto-attacks.

That's actually what I tried in the second run as I said. Melt would simply destroy my DPS for a several second time loss. Breakthrough Barb does 11k to each enemy and it knocks them back so it was invaluable which is why that was worth it, and the E would not only cause the Q to shoot but it would also inflict an extra 6k+ depending if they were vaped. Believe me, I tried just mashing.
I have nothing, what do you want me to say? Lisa is nodamage + stamina drain, Amber is lmao no, Barbara is pointless because I have Yelan, Cheongyun is garbage and Kaeya is infinitely more usable, Gorou is unusable, Sucrose requires me to farm VV, and Traveler is all over the place and I don't know what to do with him. That's it. That's all I got until I try doing 30 pulls on Kazuha next week and that doesn't guarantee me anything.

Pretty easyfor your first character but you might struggle after that depending on your taste. You get enough rolls for 1 character per patch but there is a 50/50 mechanic.
Too much work doing dailies every day to get 10 rolls per month, Mondstadt is a very empty town, the Botw-like exploring areas is old by now. I'm not impressed and kinda tired already, only 25h of playtime and I feel like half of that was doing daillies. Story is going nowhere either and ascending characters might be a slag I'm not aware yet.

Not the same amount but it has quite a bit. There's more puzzle variety and while you can't chop trees down you can whack them for wood you need to craft furniture for your house/town. You can also do elemental reactions which interact with the world, freezing water to walk on being an example. And it's what you'd expect from an open world JRPG when it comes to quests and NPCs.
You can't grab and throw items on the ground so there's nothing like taking logs, hitting flint, and getting a fire.
Using fire near any grass lights a good portion of the grass on fire.
If said grass is on fire using water or ice will put it out while wind will spread it.
When it rains everything including you is afflicted with the Wet debuff and it keeps reapplying so every other element works with it.
Rain does not affect climbing.
If you use electricity on water it electrifies a portion of the body of water for a few seconds.
Anemo (Wind) Slimes will create an updraft when killed which you can fly on.
You can freeze water which creates a path you can walk on. This means you can go from Liyue to Inazuma just by talking from the port to the other port if you have 30 realtime minutes to waste waiting for cooldowns.
In Dragonspine they have a freezing mechanic where you need to be near some sort of fire source to stay warm and you can do that by lighting torches around the map (But lighting yourself on fire doesn't work).
It's not to the length that BotW takes it but it is there. Their Korok Seed puzzle equivalents are also way more varied.
its relatively easy to get a single copy of a character eventually. however as f2p you will never max anyone out cause of a thing called limit breaking when you need dupes to unlock stats/powers.
for example you hit max level 90 with a 5 star. that 5 star is going to suck statwise compared to that same level 90 5 star +5 cause they were limit breaked 5 times and each limit break increased all stats by 10% with 5 dupes costing you thousands of real money.
to be fair genshin seems to be balanced reasonably so you dont need that level 90+5 to do level appropriate content you just need that 90.

If you're interested it's worth trying, the game is free anyway. There's enough gems available to guarantee at least 1-2 characters you want. As an F2P I managed to get most of the ones I wanted (except Qiqi because there's no way to guarantee standard banner drops even if you whale).

Ever spending real money. Also, never use any of the free currency on the standard banner. Only use it on the featured character banner when there is a 5* character you want on it and you have enough saved to guarantee getting them.

Never roll on the weapon banner.
1. Really understand what characters do, how they play and interact with each other before you roll for them much less spend resources on them
2. You'll get a whole lot of 4* characters and weapons with the free primogems the game gives you. They range from utter garbage to fricking great actually. Avoid upgrading all the shit just to "try it out". Look up a guide on what characters are viable and what weapons they should use. It's okay to read guides on this stuff.
3. Spend resin wisely and spend it often. For instance, there's no real need to farm artifact domains and ley lines until AR45+ at least. Save your petrified resins for endgame.
4. Never buy materials from the cash shop, they are all easily farmed from respawning mobs. Save your starglitter for the occasional decent direct-buy 4* weapon or character on rotation. Save your stardust for the discounted acquaint&intertwined fates (5 each) each month.
5. Just a personal opinion here, Welkin helps a lot if you enjoy the game, it's $5/month entire month and gives 90 primogems per day, a lot better than rawdogging it as pure F2P

Don't buy permanent banner pulls unless you already bought all the limited banner pulls in the Stardust section. Some people said not to even buy the permanent banner pulls at all and just save for the limit banner pulls to refresh each month. That's up to you though.
Don't waste Starglitter on anything but the characters they have available. The weapons are very niche and the rest of the items can be gained easily just from combat.
Don't roll on the weapon banner unless you are buying a Welkin and want to throw 10 at it every month because the returns on them are ridiculously bad.
Save your early pulls until a banner comes up that people are talking about or you see a character you like. You only get roughly enough pulls (About 180-200) from all the content in the entire game before you have to start relying on dailies and events. That amount of pulls is realistically enough for about 2-4 5* characters depending on how lucky you are.
Don't blow your mats leveling everyone up. Pick one character to be your "main" from what you got and use that to take you through the content along with leveling at least two other characters roughly close to that "main". The fourth character (In my opinion) isn't as important until far later on. I don't have anyone I can really throw in my team that I can work in so I've been using Yelan (5* limited)/Kaeya (Free)/Xiangling (Free) this entire time and I've only got the last area's story left and I'm completely done with the game before I finally have to start playing this as a daily game instead.
If you like the game the Welkin is worth it. It's $5 and you get 90 Primogems every day which, when added to the 60 free commission Primogems nets you 150 a day or 28 pulls a month. If you solely stay F2P then the commission Primogems mean you only get 60 a day or 11 pulls a month.

When you say 4* and 5* characters, is this how powerful they are, or just their rarity? I think I heard something about needing to upgrade the characters after you get them.
Their rarity. This isn't a typical gacha in the sense that 5* is better because it's a higher number. Some of them are great, yes, but people clear the hardest content with free 4* characters you get just by doing the story. Leveling up characters involves, well, leveling them up. You can ascend them which raises their level cap using enemy mats. You can upgrade their special attacks using other mats you get using daily Resin in certain Domains (Special combat arenas that give you special mats).
You can't upgrade a 4* to a 5*, it's not that kind of gacha.

Yeah, some of the best characters are 4* characters from launch that everyone can get because they're available in all banners. Bennet and Xingqui are two examples who dominate even whale teams because they're that good. Fischl is another one that's pretty good and Sucrose is also another good one. Don't worry too much about the rarity aspect, you really can just pull on whoever you feel appeals to you or, if you want to be more pragmatic, pull on what other people are saying is good (Like Kazuha).
I only started a month ago and I can tell you right now that while some of the endgame content is rough (Especially Enkonomiya and the Chasm) it's still been totally doable. I've only had to pass up on like two challenges because my DPS was too low, the bosses are all doable, the story is all doable, and so on. I want to say I do have a 5* character though, I was aiming for her before I even started so she's made things bit smoother, but I have a relative who also plays this who is F2P and didn't have the character and said it wasn't too bad it just took a bit longer to kill stuff.
Like the others said, it's a singleplayer game. You can tackle stuff 20+ your level without much issues. I'm still running with a level 50 character in level 70 areas.
My plan has been to make my team entirely of characters I actually like and completely ignore meta stuff. Unfortunately getting specific ones seems unlikely or in some cases impossible right now.
I'm in the same boat as you since I'm gonna be pulling for Yoimiya instead of Kazuha. I want Zhongli and Raiden Shogun but no clue how long I'll have to wait for either of them. Still, it means we'll get the hoard Primos while we wait.

You are given several free characters just for progressing the story. The game doesn't really have bad characters either since it's a chinese game your character isn't as important as how much you invest into it with talents, artifacts and weapons.
If you want the top tier characters you need to wait for their banner to be run. There is 1 and sometimes 2 banners running at once where you can roll wishes and have a chance to get that character.
You will get a lot of wishes just for playing the game, exploring, opening chests and doing quests.
There are several events every patch as well which reward freemium currency.
The average wishes you can earn without paying any money every patch is around 70 to 90 primogems.
The average wishes you will have to use to get a 5 star is around 75 primogems. So you can get a 5 star almost every patch.

Sucrose can't double buff elemental damage. She can single buff it. Sucrose also has the clunkiest swirl mechanic while Kazuha's swirls on debuff elements. So you can swirl pyro after bennets burst. Sucrose can't do that.

You don't NEED him. But he is probably better than bennet for team support. You can substitute him for sucrose though, who is more clunky, isn't quite as good, but does the same sort of stuff if you really want Klee instead.
It's hard for me, but I think I'd put Bennet over Kazuha since Bennet has really strong healing and energy generation. If you've gotten strong enough that those things don't matter, sure, I could see an argument for Kazuha, but at that point you've probably basically solved the game anyhow.

Damn circle tics for like 6k for me, and it comes back so fast I never feel the need to "camp" in it, easily has 100% up time. Other than when my zhong dong with 55k hp takes damage from the wolf spirit that do % healing, but I'd be sitting forever waiting with someone like Barbara in that case.
Kazuha provides more damage than benny, shred and utility. Not to mention the best artifact set in the game. What's better is you can use them together though. And Kazuha swirls Bennets pyro buff.

No. I'm going to convince you to not get klee, all your attacks will miss and you will waste a lot of Stam just to get in range/position. Therefore u can't do your charged attacks properly if you don't animation cancel her autoattacks. Her builds aren't that great to make her shine you're forced to use a mono pyro build or klee vaping xingqi and or year and it is frustrating to have her vape when her fricking ult is ruining your charged attacks from vaping. Also your autos and xq rain swords have a wierd timing so it's usually xq doing the vapes. I like klee but it is not fun to build her a team to clear abyss.

I started just before the recent xiao banner, ended up getting xiao since I like exploring so ended up with shitloads of primos. Also ended up with CN4 Noelle and CN2 Yanfei from pulling the banner then on the Itto banner I ended up with CN4 Shinobu (literally only character it coughed up for me) and Yanfei when paired with CN4 Shinobu as support will do more damage than Xiao against enemies that are vulnerable to overload. I ran the chaos core farming route this morning and was pushing level 80-90 ruin guards and ruin hunters over like dominos.
And now I have a ton of pity to carry over the next time I see a banner I want to pull at.
Also have a ton of alternate characters to explore and 2 5 star weapons from burning all the free acquaints.
This is with a decent number of primos wasted on 'le noob errors'

Easy if you refrain from rolling unless you have 28k primogems. If you only roll with said amount in your inventory, you will get who you want 100% of the time. The problem is though that Genshin isn't very generous when it comes to handing out primogems. Building a stash like this is easy for new players, but once you go through the content you'll be waiting months to reach this amount. So ideally you should only roll for a new character once every couple months, making it so you only roll a handful of times each year. This is if you're completely F2P btw. You can do things like spend 5 bucks a month on welkin blessings, which give 90 gems every day. Considering its price its definitely worth it.
Also don't listen to shills saying you can clear all content with starter characters. You technically can but you need to have a high amount of constellations per character, which you won't have when you're new or not rolling gacha.
You can clear the main story content at the very least just with what you get free, and I'm talking about Enkonomiya, Chasm, etc. No cons needed, just whatever 5* artifacts you get from bosses and getting them to 70+. The Fatui and Bathyvisharps are going to be the only main issue there but even with Yelan I have trouble with both (Particularly Mirror Maidens). Like I said, I have a F2P relative and he only got a 5* like last week having already finished Mondstadt and Liyue. Spiral Abyss is the only thing that requires what you're saying. Even then you don't need to keep up with the World Levels, you can just drop it if it gets too hard. I'm not even advancing past AR 45 right now because I'm not ready yet personally. Things are already tanky as it is.
Arguably the only thing you won't be able to do until you get some better stuff is get the Divine Bridal if you up your World Level because of webm related being a pretty rough DPS check. I cleared it the next try with 5 seconds left somehow.

You should have had Xiangling's pyronado going from the start and everything would have melted/vaporized to death quickly.
I tried that two times before that and it didn't work out for whatever reason. On my fourth try it did though, that's this one. I also had the forethought to weave Breakthrough Barbs in a bit more than I did and I finally got a second Noblesse Oblige bit I could use that was better than what I had with two Berserker bits.

Not enough time. I tried that on my second try. Melt would do barely any damage and one would wear off like three seconds into the fight anyway.
You go it done which is what's important. There should have been enough time to Kaeya burst, XL burst, Yelan Burst, then just auto attack. You wasted time trying to add in Yelan's other skills when all you needed was to keep applying hydro with her burst/auto-attacks.
That's actually what I tried in the second run as I said. Melt would simply destroy my DPS for a several second time loss. Breakthrough Barb does 11k to each enemy and it knocks them back so it was invaluable which is why that was worth it, and the E would not only cause the Q to shoot but it would also inflict an extra 6k+ depending if they were vaped. Believe me, I tried just mashing.

That's it. That's all I got until I try doing 30 pulls on Kazuha next week and that doesn't guarantee me anything.

Pretty easyfor your first character but you might struggle after that depending on your taste. You get enough rolls for 1 character per patch but there is a 50/50 mechanic.
Too much work doing dailies every day to get 10 rolls per month, Mondstadt is a very empty town, the Botw-like exploring areas is old by now. I'm not impressed and kinda tired already, only 25h of playtime and I feel like half of that was doing daillies. Story is going nowhere either and ascending characters might be a slag I'm not aware yet.

Not the same amount but it has quite a bit. There's more puzzle variety and while you can't chop trees down you can whack them for wood you need to craft furniture for your house/town. You can also do elemental reactions which interact with the world, freezing water to walk on being an example. And it's what you'd expect from an open world JRPG when it comes to quests and NPCs.
I wish the combat was as fun as DMC

You can't grab and throw items on the ground so there's nothing like taking logs, hitting flint, and getting a fire.
Using fire near any grass lights a good portion of the grass on fire.
If said grass is on fire using water or ice will put it out while wind will spread it.
When it rains everything including you is afflicted with the Wet debuff and it keeps reapplying so every other element works with it.
Rain does not affect climbing.
If you use electricity on water it electrifies a portion of the body of water for a few seconds.
Anemo (Wind) Slimes will create an updraft when killed which you can fly on.
You can freeze water which creates a path you can walk on. This means you can go from Liyue to Inazuma just by talking from the port to the other port if you have 30 realtime minutes to waste waiting for cooldowns.
In Dragonspine they have a freezing mechanic where you need to be near some sort of fire source to stay warm and you can do that by lighting torches around the map (But lighting yourself on fire doesn't work).
It's not to the length that BotW takes it but it is there. Their Korok Seed puzzle equivalents are also way more varied.

its relatively easy to get a single copy of a character eventually. however as f2p you will never max anyone out cause of a thing called limit breaking when you need dupes to unlock stats/powers.
for example you hit max level 90 with a 5 star. that 5 star is going to suck statwise compared to that same level 90 5 star +5 cause they were limit breaked 5 times and each limit break increased all stats by 10% with 5 dupes costing you thousands of real money.
to be fair genshin seems to be balanced reasonably so you dont need that level 90+5 to do level appropriate content you just need that 90.
It's only fun as a solo game, you do the story content and then uninstall. The rest of the game is a p2w chorefest.
