I get what they're trying to accomplish, but if I buy a game, experience it, realizing that the DEI like elements are distracting and feel tacky and then download a mod called "Wokeless" it's just too late. The damage is already done. I don't want to be distracted by a corporatized looking burger king kids club designed by committee cast of various cultural representations all carefully curated to be visible in the camera frame, but if you've ceded that much creative direction to the blackrock bureaucracy then there's no way that just changing the skin color and gender of some characters or doing minor rewrites of their dialog is going to fix everything.
I think people are losing sight of the nuance of the situation that came into full view with the sweet baby/blackrock situation. The problem first and foremost is the massive incentive structure in place that delegates the creative process to a soulless investment conduit subcontractor, not necessarily that one or more characters are black by itself.
Well it's pretty obvious since people are pointing out the issues and they're never just "the character is black"; because we've always had black characters, in fact even token blacks, and it still never felt as jarring and incompetently done as these studios shit out today.
