Voice acting is something people beg for that they don't actually want and will just be a waste of time when they turn against it after the fact. Pokemon Masters has voice acting and it's fricking dogshit. I can't listen to those English voices so I either play with volume off or in Japanese where I don't have to understand what I'm hearing, and even then some of them sound like shrill voiced nonsense.

And you don't know how to use 'moving the goal post'.

Pokemon Masters is real and people have complained about the English voice acting (especially for the Galarians) for years. You really don't know what you're talking about.

Oh so you're a literal moron. Complaining about Masters is not the same as complaining about its voice acting. And even then, you're still wrong because plenty of people complain about Masters.

This is one of the highest viewed non-official videos in the English Masters community. You just sound further out of touch the more you talk which is ironic since you accuse others of fake scenarios.

Extremely monumentally ironic post. Learn to read properly. 50K isn't the small fraction, 5K and under would be the small fraction. The point is that you were dumb enough to call a real game imaginary. There's no more debate to be had there; you were just wrong about an objective fact, and now you're turning arrogant instead being mature and simply admitting to the mistake.

He's a dumbass for thinking that as well because frick the quality of localization voice acting has gone off a cliff. We'd probably have shit like some eceleb youtuber voicing a gym leader.

The post he replied to never said that the hypothetical new games would have bad voice acting.

He implied that Game Freak has a precedent for bad voice acting, and used Pokemon Masters as a example (he could've also used the anime as an example, or the movies, or basically anything Pokemon has done that had voice acting post-4kids). You then referred to that example as an "imaginary scenario", despite the game not being imaginary. You can't say you were referring to "the hypothetical new game with bad voice acting", because he never actually mentioned that.

I didn't consider that because the voice actor is actually talented but the writing is atrocious. He is technically correct, the best you can hope for in a video game voice acting is a talented individual reading Saturday morning cartoon fanfic tier dialog.

        >approving Pokemon for current gen competitions and controlling movesets
        >IVs

There's no such thing as good voice acting. Unless you're a child who can't read, you don't need somebody else to read for you. Granted, Pokemon is arguably in that age demographic, so I guess it wouldn't be too out of place for it to have voice acting.

That's what annoys me about naysayers. They'll always fall behind on "Pokemon doesn't need ___ because it's never been or never will be good." They do this with everything and it makes you wonder why do they even care if they think Pokemon games aren't good anyway? It's just annoying to deal when you make a slight suggestion about something.

If you were in love with the franchise, you would want it evolve. We now have cutscenes with characters moving their mouths and subtitles on screen but no voices whatsoever. The obviously logical step is to get voice acting. Even a mobile game like MastersEX has it. But instead, you just want the exact same thing that you had 25 years and any suggestion that's deviates from what you've experienced as a kid makes you throw a tantrum.

And the stiffest animations a multibillion dollar company can buy. The logical step would be to hire actual animators, coders who know what the frick they're doing so the artists (the only thing GF has, or at least had, going for them) can do their job without fearing the console will explode if there're too many trees on-screen. Voice acting is way down on the list of shit GF should've been doing since they went 3D.

English dubs of Japanese video games never have good voice acting because the budget to pay the actors have to come from the tiny localization budget instead of the sizable game development budget. So they just hire some incompetent fricks who haven't done any acting beyond badly dubbed anime because actual good actors are too expensive.

I’ll maintain the viewpoint that GSC is the peak of aesthetics due to this phenomenon. Crystal has overworld spritework that leaves just enough to the imagination that your mind fills in gaps and imagines the world to be bigger than it is. The battle sprites are also unparalleled.

They’ll call you autistic, but the lower fidelity of GSC lends itself well to immersion and role-playing. Newer entries in the series show too much, exposing the gaps in the world. In SV, it’s kind of difficult to believe the world when you walk past a kid walking with his clone, both saying the same thing before fizzling into an alternate dimension.

I think asking for voice acting is more of a symptom of wanting there to be less dialogue in general.
Pokemon games, really once Gen 3 came out, love to drag on and on with absolutely meaningless dialogue. So when ~50% of the game is mashing through text, some people think the issue is that there's no voice with the characters, when it's actually there should just be less talking in general.

Its because the cutscenes are shot and animated like there should be voice acting, Nobody's decrying platinum not having voice acting cause there isn't a zoom in on cyrus's face flapping his jaw.

It's both of these. If GF is going to pretend like the story in a Pokemon game actually means anything and include more and more cinematics then adding voice acting is the very least they could do to make it somewhat engaging. New Snap made it workand the occasional grunts from your trainer in PLA did wonders.

As long as I can skip it.
Game Freak is the king of the monkey's paw, if they give us voice acting it will be worse than the anime in quality, it will be unskippable until you unlock that festure in part 2 of the DLC, the lines will be unsynched horribly with the text, or it will have the battle announcer from stadium/rbattle revolution but each turn wont end until the caster is finished with this commentary for that turn

they're forever stuck in the early-late 90s it's why they can't into modern game design. IMHO they should've stayed 2D they know they could have gotten away with it for at least another few generations.

I will never understand the need for VAs in non-action games. Is it a zoomer thing?

    >spend time + effort to make the game cringier
Frick no. I know a lot of you don’t mind the typical weebshit, trash VA work that games like this get, but I think it’s extremely jarring to hear instead of simply imagining my own voices. Do you people not read books?

And asking for this when they didn’t even put effort into basic shit like dex entries is even dumber. Let’s fix the established staples before adding yet another half-assed “feature”.

    >MUH VOICE ACTING, I CAN'T POSSIBLY ENJOY A GAME WITHOUT SOME GARBAGE VA HALF ASSING THE ALREADY HALF ASSED DIALOGUE!!!
    >READING?! USING MY IMAGINATION?!!! WHAT IS THIS, THE 17TH CENTURY?!!!!!
I get that older generations love shitting on the new guys but god damn do zoomers and alphas deserve the hate. Complete automatons, there's not an ounce of soul in you morons.

That just sounds like you earnestly don't think linguistic or colloquial terms have any meaning either, as in you genuinely think it's all recursive or some other variant of self-referentiality.

voice acting is an abject waste of dev time and resources and is literally never worth having. knowing pokémon it'd probably be dub only and you wouldn't be able to turn it off, and i'd sooner drop the series altogether than deal with that trash. don't you remember when pikachu used to say its own name and how jarring and obnoxious that was, can you even imagine how unbearable it would be if every pokémon did that?

I love the ability to hear even annoying shit and I will value and treasure everything I listen to because when I'm older this natural gift GOD gave us will be greatly reduced of not taken away almost entirely.

The games don't need to have voice acting, but they should really stop directing the cutscenes as if they did. I've never thought that Final Fantasy IX was awkward without voice acting, but this shit is really uncanny:

My thoughts exactly. It's even worse in battles where the battle just stops to play a cutscene for one text box of dialog that could've been placed elsewhere on the screen without any interruption.

    >Would it kill them to add voice actors to their games?
Yes. With how much they have to cut and how bare bones the games are already, imagine if they also added voice acting. We'd be lucky for there to even be battles left.

I hope they never do because you know it wouldn't be GOOD voiceacting. It would be the same slop as in Masters. It's always the same American voice actors who do all the anime shit. They all sound the same.

Pokémon COULD have really good voice acting, people with different kinds of accent and dialects that properly embody where the character is from, what kind of character they are etc. But no, all you'll get is generic Americans with shitty, hammy acting.

I'd take REAL Brits like in that one Xenoblade game over Americans doing a really really bad faked British accent. Leon's English voice in Masters makes me want to tear my ears off.

Using a made-up language like Klonoa or Monster Hunter is the most likely scenario, since it means they wouldn't have to dub it into fifty other languages. They already started using a fake language for text for that reason.

    ?si=PqQIZTNAbRi30QOS&t=2420

A good voice actor will be able to convey tone just fine even when speaking gibberesh, and different characters can even have different phenomes present in their "language" to give them a different feel.

They don't want to add voice acting because npcs can't say the player's name otherwise.

The oldheads at gayfreak love to keep doing gen 1 callbacks. No voice acting being one of them. Give it 20 more years until voice acting becomes the norm for Pokemon

anon, they literally cut pokemon and features for bullshit excuses, they'll somehow frick up the VA and will need to reduce the dex to 100 Pokemon in total and run at 3FPS.

Also factor in that they would need to have VA for multiple languages.

Whatever, they're gonna cut pokemon out of the next mainline anyway. Frick it.
