A regular car has to go through the curb and the lawn, dissipating some energy before it crashes through the first floor wall (and only the first floor).

A flying car can slam into any window of any floor and all of its kinetic energy will be converted to ruining your house/apartment.

Their argument isn't even about how it will negatively affect them, it's about how will positively affect men and that's why it should be banned. And they call the slipery slope a "falacy".

          Anonymous

The slippery slope fallacy is real. The problem with fallacies is that morons on the internet don't understand them.
You can say "X is going to lead to Y" without it being a fallacy, but it depends on what you're actually talking about. For example if you have a bunch if dominos lined up and you say "if I knock over this first domino it's going to knock over the second which will knock over the third etc." it's not a slippery slope fallacy. But if you say "if I knock over this cardboard toilet paper roll core it's going to cause the cat to play with it which will cause it to bat the roll into the candle which will burn my house down, so knocking over this roll will burn my house down" then that is a fallacy.

It's not wasting them, that's just the fastest way to get rockets to work.
Look at the SLS, it took 20 years of development and testing for it to fly, only to end up with something that's pretty much the half a century old Saturn V and somehow more expensive.

                No, it's just efficient.
A single rocket launch, even if it's a failure, will give you more data than years of simulations.
The Falcon 9 took 40 attempts to get it to work right, but it's been averaging on more than one launch a week for more than a year now.

It's congress who pushed them to make the Space Shuttle.
Not to mention NASA decided to make it a tiny, reusable craft capable of bringing people to and from low earth orbit.
Meanwhile Congress went full moron and asked them for shit like being capable of carrying satellites and having a robotic arm to help build space stations.
NASA's idea was the Dream Chaser, while Congress forced them to make a space freighter, which is why it ended up being so expensive and dangerous.

Nasa themselves approached the Air Force for additional funding, and there were multiple proposed shuttle designs before this.

That's been their mentality since Apollo 11.
NASA had plans fully laid out for a crewed Mars landing, a crewed Venus flyby and a Lunar base and a space station during the 70s, the only thing they asked is to mantain half of the budget from the Apollo program, and instead the government completely slashed it because they wanted to focus on the Vietnam war.

So NASA only had money for the space station, Skylab, and then the rest of the budget for the next decades was spent on the Space Shuttles which failed to achieve their goal of cheap access to LEO due to moronic demands from Congress like being able to carry satellites on their backs.

Yes, but the goal of the entire program is building a Moon base, it's not just going to the Moon again, and Artemis 2 and 3 won't achieve that.
Artemis 2 will be a test, a crewed Lunar flyby to ensure everything works fine, and 3 will be the Lunar landing.
After that they are going to need a ton more visits to the Moon to get anything built.

That's not how's brains work anon.

          Anonymous

AIs can already approximate this by looking at fricking MRIs, which is just examining blood flow to parts of the brain. if you actually had wires in your brain your companion AI could write out all the shit you think as fast as you think it. also it could make you think whatever it wanted you to think, but that's a separate issue.

            Anonymous

Show me this MRI thing, I'm calling bullshit. Absolute bullshit.

Just google it and look at the top results from science, the guardian, business insider, etc., Ganker thinks my post is spam if I copy-paste the links.

it's not "the AI reads your mind from MRI" so much as it's "AIs trained on specific brains over a very long time to read their minds", so it's not a generalizable this AI could read everyone's minds sort of thing. but you would have a personalized AI in this hypothetical future anyway so that wouldn't be a problem.

                Anonymous

Okay I've read the article about AI recreating pictures seen by subjects. Halfway down it admits that the AI used text prompts and limiting itself to a few possible pictures. As I say, the brain doesn't work like that. There isn't a synaptic path for the word "homosexual" that an AI could read.

                Anonymous

The word "homosexual" comes out of your mouth. The AI can tap into that through the same process that your mouth does. It doesn't know how to do that now, but there's no reason it practice it couldn't.

                Anonymous

My mouth and my brain aren't separate entities anon. My mouth doesn't need to interpret anything. There's no in-between.

                Anonymous

Doesn't strike me as relevant. But as a digression, you are a bunch of separate entities. Your brain is literally and very obviously split in half, and if you split the bridge that lets them communicate then they will form independent personas from each other, but less obviously it has a bunch of different modules that do different things and constantly argue with each other over whatever it is that brains argue over. Like you can have two (or more) contradictory thoughts in your head at the same time, and which one you end up acting on depends on whatever process the brain uses to decide that. And you can frick with someone's language center, and they will lose the ability to speak, in part or completely, but they will still retain their ability to think as normal, assuming other parts weren't also fricked with. So words are translations of thoughts, 100%, there's a huge "in-between" happening there. The thoughts are formed somewhere else in the brain, maybe by consensus, and then the language center is tasked with expressing that verbally.

He is also the same dipshit that founded SpaceX, a company that has created the (so far) only reusable booster capable of propulsive landing, and then used it to build a constellation of thousands of LEO satellites to provide fast internet connection to everyone who has their dish and a view of the sky (it already works), as well as to revive American manned spaceflight, ending NASA'a dependency on Roskosmos for moving people and supplies to and from the ISS. Imagine how much more awkward the current political climate could have been without SpaceX.
With this said, I agree that Neuralink as a company isn't completely trustworthy. However, I can't think of a company that I would trust with my more with my brain, either. Imagine what you could get done being able to access your own perfect memory database, or other peoples'. Learning skills instantly, being able to flawlessly communicate abstract thoughts to others, probably open up a whole new industry in "skill farms" where people are trained to learn a skill and then sell it on memory card. It'd probably be at least as big as the internet is for information sharing.

    Fun fact:

    >Physically weak men who are poor are more likely to be conservative.
    >Physically strong men who are rich are more likely to be conservative.
    >Physically strong men who are poor are more likely to be liberal.

This explains why the majority of liberals are low T zoomers who pay over $500 for McDonalds, onions dogs, buy the latest Apple products, all while complaining about the evils of capitalism. The 1% of liberals who are well formidable and actually care for their core philosophy and immediately become conservative once they get a slightly bigger slice of income.

The only way you can be strong and remain permanently a liberal is if you were gay or black. I repeat, masculinity is only possible in leftism if you are gay or black.

You all ever feel like we've all become worse people? We're all living in the future, and things that were science fiction are becoming reality, convenience is at our finger tips, and right now I'm talking with people miles maybe oceans away, and yet I don't feel any happier, I don't feel any safer. We live in genuinely awful times with genuinely better technology. We are able to do so many things for the first time in history and one of those things is being able to see a visible timeline of things getting progressively worse. Everyone is stressed out and miserable because the world's too fricking fast paced and expensive. I hope something happens soon.

These are very strange times we live in, but you have to remember that the propagandists want you to feel this way. Deny them of what they want from you. Live a fulfilling live despite their efforts, be good to your loved ones and your community and never give up on a better future. The only way a better future is impossible is if we die before we get a chance to tell future generations that it is possible.
We have all been presented a monumental challenge in the Information Age, and it is the purpose of many of our lives to rise to the occasion and withstand this challenge. The human race has survived plenty already and will survive this dystopia if we all do our part in refusing to participate in this machine.

So basically, even though they could just launch Starship and have them go all the way to the Lunar surface on it, they are going to launch an empty Starship, the astronauts will go on the SLS, then the Orion spacecraft will dock with Starship, take them down to the Moon and then go back to Earth on Orion, even though Starship could take them back to Earth too.

I can also see the first brain hacks being developed, insertion of images that aren't there. I dont see EVs taking off unless there's a radical change in how accessible charging is across the planet, and even then you're going to have to deal with not only extended charging fricking over the batteries, but winter dropping capacity as well. Doesn't even begin to factor in parts availability, and stability of ICE vs EV being a "fairly new" consumer market

I honestly haven’t noticed any difference in what I see posted on there. Still plenty of annoying self-styled pundits, just more blue check marks.

Yes, that and his regular dismissal of ESG WEF shit.
Twitter has only become /b/ in that it's back to being random bullshit, isn't "curating" by any opposing viewpoints, and the blue checkmark is no longer a status symbol. Of course the American left is now screeching that they lost one of their biggest propaganda strongholds.
Community Notes alone basically destroys all sorts of propaganda and scams, bots have been getting filtered to some degree, and firing like 95% of the employees improved productivity and Twitter's quality. Some political shit still rises to the top occasionally by force but really only if you've been looking for it in the first place.

And as long as the only factors are my time and money i can justify that to myself.
A brain chip is like a tatoo but in your head.
Not to mention what happens if it just breaks on its own or if you get a concusdion while having wires in your brain.
Then we come to the fact that at this stage its still just a proof of concept so if you want to implant a prototype into your head wich has none of the safety and design features that extensive testing naturally bring and thats like looking at the first automobile and thinking "yeah im ginna surgically bond myself to that"
