You clearly didn't read OP and don't understand the context in which you are collecting things as the two images in OP clearly don't show collectathon games.
I don't play a game *just* for the scores but I use it as a measure of how hard I beat it and if I replay the game I attempt to beat my previous. I'm a scrub, but I still understand the point of a game is to whip its ass and to show that you did, you get a higher score or a faster time.
When was the last time you heard someone talk about getting the high score in level 5-1 of Super Mario Bros. or whatever? Speedruns, yes, but never points.
>coins in Mario are merely an option.
Super Mario 64 uses the coins as a way to recover life and oxygen though.
Yoshi Island uses the coins as a way to unlock extra stages.
Wario Land uses the coins as a way to unlock the many endings.
Give me coins and treasures to collect for points, food items should be for HP and other effects.
Also score has a place if it means getting extra lives/continues. Other games using score as a currency is good too.
dude master higgens is a fat frick. you don't collect food for score. you collect it to LIVE! if that fricker doesn't keep his blood sugar bar up he literally just dies from diabetic shock or some bull shit. how are you comparing two games you didn't even PLAY
Nothing. collect-a-tons are le bad

Score is pointless outside of an arcade environment, that's why they got rid of it
sonic did a good job with this. I like collecting things if they can give a reward that is cooler than an extra life.
Adventure Island treats the fruit collection as life and time collectables depending of the game.
>Score
Who the frick cares. If it's not something that impacts gameplay, it's worthless.
casuals
post scores
>sc-sc-scores don't matter!
Quit hogging all the farts, anon, they're giving you brain damage.
post scores
If you aren't just shitposting and actually do play a game for score, I would be curious to hear about it.

Some months back, I posted my Mappy and City Connection (NES versions) scores here. Shall I trawl the archive to find the screencaps?
Go for it
As said in that thread, the rom I was using at the time had a wonky title screen so I had to cap this at the moment of death.
And the Mappy score.
>player 1
>1UP
y tho
Because, player one, it is your turn to play. You're up!
Now 1up as extra lives, I don't understand.
>muh cheevos
Score does impact gameplay. For a lot of games getting a high score IS the game play.

Food in Adventure Island/Wonder Boy keeps you from starving to death IE it is a necessity while coins in Mario are merely an option.

Wario Land uses the coins as a way to unlock the many endings.
That's nice, dear.
>to increase your score?
It's better if it's currency or craftables. Early games rarely had the latter.
Huh, those palm trees are _really_ similar to Sonic's
I rather collect pokemon creatures.

I like collecting anything but I really like collecting HIDDEN GEMS.
I love BB / RI collectibles
Those gems look delicious.
The food in AI isn't just score, it's time as well. Or rather stamina, which works like time.

We can at least all agree that Castlevania using hearts for ammunition (instead of health) is fricked up, right?
Yes.
Yep.
Something about gold coins is just comfy as frick. Also food items giving points instead of health is illogical.
These frickers right there
