playing MMOs require a high enough emotional investment that it being available on steam wouldn't increase the userbase significantly and would have a negative effect as 99.9% of people try it and leave a bad review
I have unironically only played private servers. I love WoW and hate giving blizz money, if they removed the sub fee from classic or hell even retail I'd be playin that shit nonstop

All they made was made a portion of the real money trade into something blizz sanctioned that people could do without being punished so now a massive amount do it.
It already kind of has a cash shop, that new cosmetic vendor they added months ago (or maybe it's been a year, I don't know) that you get a premium currency for simply by having a subscription, then you can grind a bit for more of it
not a huge stretch to see them expand that into a F2P design, it has the idea of free players already baked into it earning scraps for engaging with the game

I don't expect it to be fully F2P... but more like a segmented subscription thing that more modern MMOs use. Play for free but get a bunch of extra features for paying. They'll call it WoW Plus or something.
And yes, OW2, despite the bad reviews, means more of Blizzard's games are coming to Steam. They have to because that will be Microsoft's policy.
But all of wow actual content is locked to end game.
It's not like 14 where you can timewalk dungeons and raids at difficulty while also the main meat of it being the story.

If they do fp up until like, pandaria or wod or legion or some shit like under x level that doesn't do anything, game is too much of a mess and it only offers content at the end game, can you even get pvp gear and rewards if you're not max level?
