It doesn't even count trial players or really anyone that hasn't made it out of trial content. Even if the game had 300k players that is more than enough to be healthy

Personally I think he just cares about combat, and doesn't care about the story but that's turned around in FF. Doubly so since he has to play a tank to be the 'big weapon man' archetype that he's obsessed with, and he has to read constantly despite having dyslexia.

Ffxiv, of course I like new content too but when there is a drought I reduce my play time perday to play other things but still play pretty much daily. I purposely pace some of my grind content to not burn out but have things to do. I get distracted easily and will just do things I don't need to do with friends for their sake and I enjoy every moment.

Consider steam stats for FFXIV to be the Brazilian playerbase. The only way for hues to pay for the game at a reasonable sub price is to buy through Steam

Most players do not buy it from steam and use the official square enix launcher. Hell, when I first wanted to play it many people told me NOT to buy it from steam and to buy and play it through square enix.

Additionally, no variety in how a job performs means you will be able to, on-sight, determine what a player is capable of and what they should be doing. There is no variance in how a Black Mage performs, so you will know if a Black Mage is fricking up.

This applies to basically any game with a raiding setup. The "treadmill" aspect is also due to raids being totally elective. You don't have to raid even to gear up, you can just buy gear off the marketboard or craft it yourself and it's arguably good enough.
