Avaloren is a lore asspull with no foreshadowing or basis in existing lore. The zone images are extremely bland and uncreative and play into stereotypes of the current dev team being very untalented. If you’re a new player you’ll probably still get some enjoyment out of it on game pass. I would not advise spending any money on it beyond that

The game already doesn't run on a potato computer since the DF patch. You can't get 60fps in the main city with anything less than a 5800x because all the veteran programmers quit and the engine is maintained by mentally moronic interns now
DF's optimization is so bad that it gets frame drops on 30xx series. SL also had some insane RAM and SSD requirements at launch if you wanted a loading screen to take less than 2-6 minutes.
I played shadowlands on 8GB of ram and had no issues of long loading screens.
An ssd is enough to keep them under two minutes.
And I played it at launch.
The lag ingame is another issue.
Yeah DF runs heavy like a 2023 AAA game but looks like a game from 10 years ago. It's actually mystifying how badly it runs. At least Starfield looks somewhat modern while it runs badly, DF doesn't even achieve that. It's truly the dregs of programmers that work on it nowadays.

WC3 and WoW were in development simultaneously. TFT came with an ad for WoW. The bonus campaign was a direct lead in to WoW.
WC3 was in development before WoW. The Frozen Throne came with an advert for WoW, but that doesn't make a full RTS with complete campaign and expansion nothing more than an advertisement for a game that would begin development after it.
In fact, the development of WC3 and WoW were so separated from one another, the WoW devs weren't aware of the Frozen Throne story and thought the Undead the Horde were going to be aligned with were supposed to be the *Scourge*

I say this almost every time I post or see a WoW thread and the story is worth repeating again. I genuinely think modern WoW players are mentally ill or maybe even prisoners of sort. During legion people complained about how shit it was to grind artficact power and it wasnt even fun but each level you got on your weapon gave you a 0.5% dmg increase. It was mathematically proven that Maw of Souls was the most efficient way to get artifact power (keep in mind players knew beforehand that artifact power and weapons are expansion specific so gone for sure within 2 years). Players STILL spend all day every day grinding maw of souls just to get that 0.5% dmg buff which they could have gotten if they waited a few months and taken the free catchup mechanics. Players cried on the forums and other media places about how shit grinding Maw all day was but they still did it.

But in the longrun it was the smarter play than WoW. In XIV they can always add new zones to existing maps with ease and just say you had no reason to go there yet. In WoW they tried to pull of a persistent complete open world and the longterm pay off is everything being set in stone and they keep finding new continents lost for millenia on repeat for 20 years. Ultimately making the world feel smaller and smaller with each update.

Retention is actually pretty high. A lot of people who bought Dragonflight are still playing Dragonflight because Blizzard has actually been on their game when it comes to releasing patch content.
The problem is that the baseline numbers for Dragonflight were very low to begin with. So low in fact that only a week after launch last year they had throw in a free month of game time to entice people to actually buy. No expansion has ever come with game time before, only the purchase of the base game ever gave you a free month.

Wrath had ICC which was narrative-wise the finale of WC3 and highly anticipated by players. It also had 16 dungeons, several of which were post-release, when DF has 8 + a megadungeon and DF seasons have largely been recycled old content. The next season has TWO new dungeons which is the megadungeon split in two, while the rest are old, some as old as from Cata.

I can't believe how little there is to do outside of raiding and M+. Statistically, don't the vast majority of players never step into M+ or Normal raids? What do these players even do instead?
They quit the game, there's no reason to subscribe if you don't do M+. PVP doesn't even get content any more, it's a lobby game for M+ and not pretending to be anything more.
Unfortunately, with the way the community is now, M+ is absolutely necessary to segregate speedrunning autists from the rest of the population. When they didn't have it in WoW Classic, it just made people get extremely elitist about regular raids instead, hence you ended up with situations where you would get kicked from the first dungeon of WoTLK because you don't have sunwell gear.

That's literally the one exception, being Forsaken zones. The only other places where the faction conflict takes some spotlight are Barrens and Stonetalon.
And once you get to patch content and then TBC and beyond the faction conflict is entirely on the backburner until Cata/MoP, where it immediately goes into Horde civil war against Garrosh.

What the frick? I didn't even think this was XIV until I looked in the corner. They got rid of that grey/green haze filter over everything and fixed the fricked up ground textures. There's also a lot more foliage density than the zones I played through. Actually very impressive improvement.

Avaloren is a lore asspull with no foreshadowing or basis in existing lore. The zone images are extremely bland and uncreative and play into stereotypes of the current dev team being very untalented. If you’re a new player you’ll probably still get some enjoyment out of it on game pass. I would not advise spending any money on it beyond that

The game already doesn't run on a potato computer since the DF patch. You can't get 60fps in the main city with anything less than a 5800x because all the veteran programmers quit and the engine is maintained by mentally moronic interns now
DF's optimization is so bad that it gets frame drops on 30xx series. SL also had some insane RAM and SSD requirements at launch if you wanted a loading screen to take less than 2-6 minutes.
I played shadowlands on 8GB of ram and had no issues of long loading screens.
An ssd is enough to keep them under two minutes.

I say this almost every time I post or see a WoW thread and the story is worth repeating again. I genuinely think modern WoW players are mentally ill or maybe even prisoners of sort. During legion people complained about how shit it was to grind artficact power and it wasnt even fun but each level you got on your weapon gave you a 0.5% dmg increase. It was mathematically proven that Maw of Souls was the most efficient way to get artifact power (keep in mind players knew beforehand that artifact power and weapons are expansion specific so gone for sure within 2 years). Players STILL spend all day every day grinding maw of souls just to get that 0.5% dmg buff which they could have gotten if they waited a few months and taken the free catchup mechanics. Players cried on the forums and other media places about how shit grinding Maw all day was but they still did it.

I tried ffxiv once, the moment I saw map and minimap, I fricked off
it was like some shit from 2001
But in the longrun it was the smarter play than WoW. In XIV they can always add new zones to existing maps with ease and just say you had no reason to go there yet. In WoW they tried to pull of a persistent complete open world and the longterm pay off is everything being set in stone and they keep finding new continents lost for millenia on repeat for 20 years. Ultimately making the world feel smaller and smaller with each update.

Retention is actually pretty high. A lot of people who bought Dragonflight are still playing Dragonflight because Blizzard has actually been on their game when it comes to releasing patch content.
The problem is that the baseline numbers for Dragonflight were very low to begin with. So low in fact that only a week after launch last year they had throw in a free month of game time to entice people to actually buy. No expansion has ever come with game time before, only the purchase of the base game ever gave you a free month.
They threw in -10 days of game time for me for saying the audience hated lord of the rings.
I'd love to sue them for it but it's not worth it. There is absolutely no scenario where I aid them maintaining employment.

Dragonflight has two absolutely forgettable raids with some of the lowest participation of all time and a third raid coming out with visuals copy-pasted from Ardenweald with a green filter over the top. Wrath had ICC which was narrative-wise the finale of WC3 and highly anticipated by players. It also had 16 dungeons, several of which were post-release, when DF has 8 + a megadungeon and DF seasons have largely been recycled old content. The next season has TWO new dungeons which is the megadungeon split in two, while the rest are old, some as old as from Cata.
Dragonflight is a low effort expansion.

Ohn'ahran Plains was quite possibly the single worst zone in the history of the game. Even putting the LGBTQ shit aside, the zone was just boring.

That's literally the one exception, being Forsaken zones. The only other places where the faction conflict takes some spotlight are Barrens and Stonetalon.
And once you get to patch content and then TBC and beyond the faction conflict is entirely on the backburner until Cata/MoP, where it immediately goes into Horde civil war against Garrosh.

What the frick? I didn't even think this was XIV until I looked in the corner. They got rid of that grey/green haze filter over everything and fixed the fricked up ground textures. There's also a lot more foliage density than the zones I played through. Actually very impressive improvement.

Its not new just because we didn't go there yet and its not missing or lost either. Just because you have never been to Spain doesn't meant we didn't know its there or its existence was a mystery.
In FFXIV they leave room for stuff like that though. There's a lot of landmasses that are covered in clouds to be visited at some point in some expansion
