all of those places were there in canon for decades, they just werent depicted on the map for one reason or another.
but we are at the point where all places on azeroth that were mentioned since WC1 have been visited so its just OC shit now.
Gameplay and usability (Clicking on the map) reasons mostly. Lore wise most of the islands they've added are tiny, they'd realistically be the size of 1 zone from the Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms or Northrend, and those are already massively scaled down, again for gameplay reasons.

With Kul'Tiras what happened was that they put Tol Barad (Cataclysms pvp zone, it was a failure) in that location and expanded Kul'Tiras later, so yeah, the odd one more so is that these existing islands grow much larger, Broken Isles went from the Tomb risen out the water to multiple vaguely to decently populated zones.

I couldn't care less about an expansion focused on caverns and dwarves. They've clearly run out of ideas aside from the Light/Void expansion that they don't want to do yet for whatever reason.

The game has always had issues in some way. Cata was a major slump, WoD was a giga slump, but Legion definitely made things a lot worse with systems designed for M+ gearing, world quests, and artifact power. Didn't have to be so bad. There are a lot of systems that could have been healthy for the game if they just designed them better, even LFR could have worked. But no, they just give up on every half-baked feature and leave it in the game to rot. Or worse they ditch fun features entirely after spending whole expansions building them up. Just mess after mess piling up with this game.

Yes actually, as a very casual WoW player these days, I thought the majority of DF's zones were well executed and I had a very good time leveling through it. The new flying was a really good addition and I liked how the maps were designed around it.
I absolutely detested the centaur zone. I'm a much more hardcore ff14 player since 2.0 and the wow centaur zone reminded me of ff14's not-mongolia zone with a similar storyline/npcs/zone style. Really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Azure Span in particular was a knock out of the park for me. I was never really into Grizzy Hills as a kid but I feel like I understand the appeal now 15 years later. I was very surprised at how WoW managed to take fairly simple map concepts and make them all very enjoyable in DF, so I was hoping the next xpack might do the same.
Idk maybe I need to actually play it because DF didn't look much better at first, but I'm really not feeling a dwarf xpack with... snow lightning rocks and a desert.
I felt about the same. Flying was good, the centaur zone was absolutely insufferable, and the Azure Span was pretty great and definitely reminded me of the best parts of Wrath, which was for sure what they were going for, 100% without a doubt.
Elden Ring switched up their look from DS3. It went from cave after cave after cave in ds3 to an open world with quality.
Outlast 1 went from a haunted psychiatric ward to a wide open forest in Outlast 2. The way the game forces you to play in a super linear way was questionable, and they got criticism for it too, but no one can deny that outlast 1 and 2 feel like completely different games.
World of Warcraft has had 9 expansions. Nine. All of them involve some heckin new zone with a new level cap and blah blah. It was cool maybe 5 expansions ago, but take a look at that picture and tell me you feel like it’s a whole new game.

No I understood the vision and loved it. Waylay was the only downside as it made no sense as a mastery, but building up stacks to use Fury of the Eagle was fun as frick while throwing grenades and traps everywhere.
Making a melee hunter I can understand since that's what survival was suppose to be in vanilla. But why the FRICK did they make the theme of the spec not match hunter in the slightest? Grenades? Napalm? Harpoon gun? WHY ARE YOU A PYROMANIAC? They are even stuck to two-handers when the only melee hunter character in WoWs history, Rexxar, dual wields axes???

You realise game development pays like absolute shit compared to actual software dev in Cali right? You can even look up Blizzard salaries in California. The catch is that it's been in a closed, pay to unlock alpha for 2 years of which like 1 and a half stuck at level 50. Don't get me wrong, I've gotten enough fun out of it over 2 years for 40 bucks but I don't know when it will actually release. We've had two COMPLETE CORE REWORKS that added at least 8 months in development time each, plus they keep fricking reworking classes.

Ascension has a shop but you can't buy gear like most pservers. It's all just cosmetic stuff like transmogs or useful little vanity items like extra hearthstones to specific towns. Also all the shop stuff is tradable so it's super easy to farm gold and buy any shop item you want from the auction house.

Gameplay and usability (Clicking on the map) reasons mostly. Lore wise most of the islands they've added are tiny, they'd realistically be the size of 1 zone from the Kalimdor, Eastern Kingdoms or Northrend, and those are already massively scaled down, again for gameplay reasons.

With Kul'Tiras what happened was that they put Tol Barad (Cataclysms pvp zone, it was a failure) in that location and expanded Kul'Tiras later, so yeah, the odd one more so is that these existing islands grow much larger, Broken Isles went from the Tomb risen out the water to multiple vaguely to decently populated zones.

The game has always had issues in some way. Cata was a major slump, WoD was a giga slump, but Legion definitely made things a lot worse with systems designed for M+ gearing, world quests, and artifact power. Didn't have to be so bad. There are a lot of systems that could have been healthy for the game if they just designed them better, even LFR could have worked. But no, they just give up on every half-baked feature and leave it in the game to rot. Or worse they ditch fun features entirely after spending whole expansions building them up. Just mess after mess piling up with this game.

Yes actually, as a very casual WoW player these days, I thought the majority of DF's zones were well executed and I had a very good time leveling through it. The new flying was a really good addition and I liked how the maps were designed around it.
I absolutely detested the centaur zone. I'm a much more hardcore ff14 player since 2.0 and the wow centaur zone reminded me of ff14's not-mongolia zone with a similar storyline/npcs/zone style. Really left a bad taste in my mouth.
Azure Span in particular was a knock out of the park for me. I was never really into Grizzy Hills as a kid but I feel like I understand the appeal now 15 years later. I was very surprised at how WoW managed to take fairly simple map concepts and make them all very enjoyable in DF, so I was hoping the next xpack might do the same.
Idk maybe I need to actually play it because DF didn't look much better at first, but I'm really not feeling a dwarf xpack with... snow lightning rocks and a desert.
I felt about the same. Flying was good, the centaur zone was absolutely insufferable, and the Azure Span was pretty great and definitely reminded me of the best parts of Wrath, which was for sure what they were going for, 100% without a doubt.

Elden Ring switched up their look from DS3. It went from cave after cave after cave in ds3 to an open world with quality.
Outlast 1 went from a haunted psychiatric ward to a wide open forest in Outlast 2. The way the game forces you to play in a super linear way was questionable, and they got criticism for it too, but no one can deny that outlast 1 and 2 feel like completely different games.

Ascension has a shop but you can't buy gear like most pservers. It's all just cosmetic stuff like transmogs or useful little vanity items like extra hearthstones to specific towns. Also all the shop stuff is tradable so it's super easy to farm gold and buy any shop item you want from the auction house.

Dragonflight proved that removing borrowed power makes everything fricking boring.
sad. dragonflight is already on pace to have SL patch 4 numbers and we're only just starting patch 3. new xpacs won't save this downturn. There's actually going to be zero reason to play a major patch for more than a couple months unless you're raid logging or it's the beginning of the xpac.
