Wow, this game is like the best 3rd person shooter ever. Wtf? How come no better 3rd person shooter has been made in the 17 years since it was released?

Gears of War was better
It isn’t
because morons say "it isn't a resident evil game" because it's not the shitty gameplay of the first three games
instead it's 200x more fun
The gameplay is so tight it's crazy. Every aspect of the game from the stop-and-shot to the tank control fits perfectly with the rest of the gameplay. No other games do QTEs as well as this game and it's been 17 years.
this, and despite how it might seem illogical I think the pausing to switch weapons and mess with the inventory actually compliments the action; not exactly sure how but it just feels good, it's quick and snappy and fun to organize
also, not being able to move while you aim is great for the game, it enhances the horror aspect since you have to really commit and make a stand
You just gave me flashbacks about how QTEs were a huge thing in the late 00s and early 10s and how glad I am devs stopped doing them.
RE4 is a masterclass in gaming design, it might not have same horror aspects as the games before it but its a very important game in gaming. Mikami is a genius for creating this new over the shoulder view that influenced all 3rd person games to this day, before it there wasn't such a thing.
Name all the people in this image for me.
the only ones there worth knowing are Fumito Ueda and Shinji Mikami
have a nice day
What about Death Stranding?
what about sniffing dog shit?
Have you tried that lately?
There hasn't been much of it on the curbs..
don't talk to me you /soc/ reject
yooo I love Ganker
Because it's lightning in a bottle, they made a perfect game by accident, RE4 was in a development hell and this version of the game almost never even came into existence.
It's crazy how all over the place the game is, constantly throwing new ideas and setpieces, changing moods, bordering on being moronic at times and yet it's consistently good and every part of it is memorable. This game has no right to be as good as it is for being such a mess on paper. Even the Rocket Launcher would have been a clear design mistake in any other game and yet it works in RE4 and just makes it better. The game is even confident enough to hand you one for free.
Conker’s Bad Fur Day’s mansion level did it first
Dead Space is RE4 but better.
RE4 has much better encounter design and variety. Where the plasma cutter in DS is all you need and the same tactic works 99% of the time.
In RE4 you can just shoot most enemies in the face kick them over and slash em while they are down that's like 80% of fighting enemies in RE4 since most enemies are just villagers or cultist
the variety from RE4 comes from how those enemies are arranged and compliment the level design (plus traps and other stuff), it's very rarely just an empty box room with enemies standing there
I don't think that happens in Dead Space either, you almost never see the necromorphs just hanging around in the rooms
That's the basic loop but the game puts a lot of variation on this by introducing enemies with protective mask or enemies that have instakill plagas if that's extremely dangerous if you pop their heads. Enemies can block and side-step.
>not suplexing every cultist you see
ngmi
RE4 has variety. Dead Space is nothing but the same repetitive gray steel corridors.
The USG Ishimura has character and feels like a real place while the locations in RE4 feel like theme parks plus the village and castle are best while the other locations leave a lot to be desired.
Dead Space takes itself seriously, RE4 doesn't
You're right that the island is weak though
i liked the island 🙁
I don't like by virtue of it being the last area in an RE game. I think most people can instantly sense when an RE game is gonna end and deem that area as the worst.
The castle has the worst room in the game tho.
that's one of my favourite rooms
Are you a masochist?
>dreaded this going into it
>cleared it first time
it really isn't that bad
If you know there are archers up on those platforms it's not that bad. I used the bolt rifle and was fine. I was also very liberal with my nades.
You can barely see the archers when you're playing it on a gamecube through an old worn shitty crt as god intended the game to be played.
Now now, no one really gives a shit what Mikami wanted the game to be played on. Remember the Chihuahua in God Hand.

on professional it's quite hard to get through
otherwise it's not bad at all
>worst room in the game is a fun and challenging encounter with moderate difficulty
So the game is good then?
I cannot wait to see how they handle this in the remake.
RE4 is the ultimate example of something that's objectively better than Your Favorite Game
If you said DS2 you'd be right. DS2 is the best paced game ever made and dances circles around RE4's enemy and level design.
I knew this would turn into a Dead Space rivalry thread, but how does DS2 compare to RE4, given that the sequel is a bit more action-heavy?
Dead Space 2 is the best action horror game ever made it's the Aliens of vidya
Pitch perfect pacing fantastic acting an engaging story and beautiful settings and awesome enemies. The only thing it lacks is great boss fights other then that it's a nearly perfect game to me.
>tfw want to jump straight into DS2 since I want more RE4 type ludo
>everyone says to play the original first
Both 1 and 2 are kino but 2 is a better action game if that's what you care more about.
>How come no better 3rd person shooter has been made in the 17 years since it was released?
RE4 is often emulated, never bested. It's because the content is so finely balanced, so high quality, so perfectly paced to engage you. It's because RE4 was made by people who really understand game design beyond the obvious
I wonder how well a fixed camera RE4 would work, kinda like DC2 but far more advanced
Real talk. Somebody needs to make a modern standalone version of this game's Merc mode. It could honestly be the next big thing. Fun to frick around with but also has insane combat depth that was barely utilized in the shit campaigns.
RE6 was such an unfun dumpster fire.
It controls so stiffly. Feels like I spend the entire game fighting my controller. Vanquish is a significantly better TPS, probably because Shinji learned what not to do after RE4.
Vanquish is good but not RE4 good
Why? Because of factors not related to actual gameplay? Because I don't see how it's possible for someone to play both games and think RE4 is the better shooter, which is what we're discussing.
If you know, you know.
The control being stiff doesn't make RE4 a bad game. The combat works because it's controlled like that. Everything is carefully considered. Play more.
RE4 level design and encounter design remains one of the best ever
QTEs are such an integral part of RE4's gameplay that it's almost a disservice to call it that
>no better 3rd person shooter has been made
huh?
