there is no alternative
i think regular pokemon fans dont like monster taming games (even if the monsters were all great looking). they just like charmander or whatever pokemon they formed an attachment to. people that play other games do exist which is why theres like entirely new monster tamer games lately.
Monster-taming is a very niche genre. From my inexperienced point of view about the genre, there's nothing else other than Pokemon, Digimon (which let's be honest the games are not popular at all) and Dragon Quest Monsters, unless you want to consider Shin Megami Tensei a monster-taming game too. Yokai Watch imploded because of Level5's moronic decisions and every other Pokemon clone like Cassette Beasts and whatever that chinese game was might as well not exist.

Autism and console war brand loyalty, anything similar to Pokemon is perceived as an attack on Pokemon. Just look at how Digimon lives rent free in their brains nearly thirty years later.
If anything it's the opposite. The majority of Pokemon fans nowadays are zoomers who probably don't even know that Digimon exists. Did Survive even crack 1 million copies sold yet? Are there even any Digitmon monster taming games coming out soon? Cyber bawds came out 8 years ago. Verification not required.
I tried some of the SMT games, but I suck at them and the characters in Persona get on my nerves.
Because aside from Pokemon, Monster Tamer is one of the most niche genres as its either a spinoff people would rather play the main entry for, or seen as a Pokemon clone whether or not it came before.
Digimon is more secluded than ever these days yet has its dedicated fanbase for even a VN released last year, but as far as actual tamers I'd say your best options are Shin Megami Tensei, Dragon Quest Monsters and Monster Hunter Stories.
The problem is that MOST people looking at the above likely hate Pokemon (and by extension the genre) or don't care and play something else in the franchise, whilst everyone else gravitates towards Pokemon because ever since Pokemania there's been a prevailing stockholm syndrome to this series that will never wither, regardless of all their frickups. Even their current ones will merely setback a couple tens of thousands of the dedicated as the franchise trucks on.
But I expected nothing.
