For example, WoW had a lot of social interaction, Destiny has okay gameplay, ff14 has coomer shit and things like that, but MapleStory has nothing, literally nothing. It's an endless grind that is not fun, with bad gameplay. The enjoyable boss fights are few and don't take much of your time, there is almost no player interaction and it is one of the most anti-consumer games of all time
I think the comic is implying that the issue is less with the grind itself and more with the way they've cut down enemy drops to only be money rather than Money plus a billion useless dogshit quest items like snail shells.
maplestory had some pre-big bang quest line that involved you in investigating some puppeteer in every town in Victoria island, and after that you were sent back and forth between each continent and town, wasting as much as your time as possible via the 20minute flights between continents

Enemies drop more equips now than they ever have before, especially endgame ones.
