WTF is wrong with AAA gaming?

>Nintendo announces over 5 new first-party titles + a remake and remasters of previous titles
>the budget of all these games combined probably doesn't amount to the budget of the new Spider-Man game
No WONDER Sony is panicking over losing COD. Both Sony and Microsoft have nothing, they release at best 5 first parties per generation. Chasing graphics was a mistake.

AAA gaming budgets are far too bloated to sustain itself, every new game costs at least 100m to make and 6 years to release full of bugs. This is unsustainable.

Is the Peach game a full game, or a side thing for Mario RPG? The way they announced it was confusing.

          Anonymous

I think it was more of a teaser of her own separate game. They were just saying that one of the characters (Peach) was going its own game or starring in one.

          Anonymous

They only teased the gameplay (strange), but it's a whole new game. But if you think about it, if they showed only "new peach game in development" it wouldn't be enough.

Reminds of the first tease of that Yoshi Crafted World first teaser.

I thought it might be like Bowser's Fury, which is a separate game (kind of), but it's a pack in with 3D World. It looks like it could be in the same engine as Mario RPG.

It doesn't even follow the same art style (engine doesn't matter, Nintendo has been using Unreal for a bunch of games)

Also, they didn't even attached the Peach segment to the Mario RPG trailer official yt video. It's a Standalone Peach game.

Nintendo have literally done this multiple times before when re-releasing old games, since it gives people an incentive to buy the game again. It's not that crazy an assumption.

Yes and in every case (Bowser's Fury, Bowser's Minions, etc.) they made it clear as fricking day that it was a pack-in for the actual game. There is nothing about the Peach game that even hints at it not being its own separate game other than your moronation.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - 3D Mario/Zelda notwithstanding, Nintendo is basically the world's leading AA dev, and I don't say that disparagingly.

That is why Nintendo will never release a high-end console, their whole business is based on being behind two generations to cut costs. This is why they still make the most profit from selling hardware.

Sony (and Microsoft and other companies for that matter) are never going to put effort into these kinds of experiences because the people that like them only want them from Nintendo. Nintendo is the only company left making big bucks from 2d platformers, mini game collections, turn based rpgs and fighting games. It's silly to wonder why aren't more companies doing that, people wouldn't buy it if they did.

They actually should, is the thing. There should be a niche for AAA developed games that are made on a tighter budget, and appealer to a slightly smaller audience, but come out a lot faster, and are free to be experimental.

            Anonymous

Some companies still do that. Ubisoft still funds weird passion projects, Square Enix still releases turn based rpgs Capcom still treats Street Fighter like a big deal. But something else has to put food on the table. But they can't do what Nintendo does and rely on them exclusively.

If the niche for smaller games is being fulfilled by competent indie devs why bother making something to compete against Hollow Knight if Hollow Knight is gonna be on playstation anyway

Reposting this from a dead thread about the state of AAA gaming:
    >As far as console wars, Xbone is long gone ("Starfield" lmao imagine putting your fate in Bethesda's hands), Snoy has literally no games (movieslop), Switch has decade-old hardware but actual games, and PC gets ports of rereleases of remasters of remakes...
    >So superficially the videogames industry is publishers like Bethesda, Ubisoft, Squeenix, etc backing up up truckloads of cash into a circle of dumpsterfires with gamer's lining up to pay to breathe in huge clouds of cancerous smoke, but the Nintedo dumpsterfire is slightly less toxic.

    >However, PC also has emulators, huge backcatalog, indiedev games, "Switch" games, and also real new games (A and AA) and gets ports of the snoy moviegames if that's your thing.

    >So basically PC is the only real option left if you are not a suicide cultist.
