I think its time for more WURM

Wurm is basically proto-minecraft but with 200% more autism. Instead of just slapping blocks down you gather resources, build walls/tools/weapons and improve quality based on skills. Be a magic priest, the local smith, make cheese, pretty much anything you could want. Everything is a skill grind, and the gameplay is very slow/low intensity.

Right now you don't, I'm still setting up/configuring server mods. This thread is going to be to discuss settings/configurations. You can pick it up on steam (or yarhar) and try hosting a local server or terrorize a normalgay serb for now. Launch will be August 2nd for now just to be safe, but if rolf code doesn't frick me in the ass anymore than it already has, we could start sooner.

    CURRENT SERVER SETTINGS
    These are all up for debate, looking for feedback this week on settings before committing to custom map content
    >2x action, 3x skill
    Can go 3x/3x, but was thinking some slowdown would add longevity.
    >priest restrictions disabled, cross deity linking enabled, NO DAILY/HOURLY PRAYER LIMIT
    This should let people that want to focus on magic do so. I'll be toning the gains down on faith so it feels more like a real skill to grind instead of a daily login bonus/requirement. I'll be adding runes of recall to smooth out channeling grinds between deities.
    >Everyone in freedom kingdom, all pvp enabled
    This lets everyone do whatever they want with priesting, and if you village has drama you can just make a new deed instead of having to jump kingdoms. This means PMK(player made kingdoms) might not be in. Open to feedback on this.
    >Wyvrnmods/duskcombat/treasuremaps
    All are in. I'll run through more specific settings/post .properties somewhere later. Bounties currently disabled (frick you rolf) but it fits with the theme I'd like to run.
    >other mods/settings implemented
    Most actions can be done from carts. PVP is currently full loot but affinities are not lost on death.
    >future mods to test/implement
    Refuelers to keep forges lit permanently, Alchemy to allow potions (only work out of combat, but can get temporary weapon oils/healing potions/buffs), a few more QoL mods, and a dungeon system with currency/rewards(only if everything else works).

        Can you tweak specific sacrifice rewards? Spells like Light Token gives you a high QL item you can shove right back into the Altar for more sacrifice favor than a priest spent to make it, meanwhile Fo and Lib priests have to pray to their farmers for enough cloth and rope to hang themselves with.

        Imagine needing alts to play a game with your friends. How embarrassing.

        Anon, you'd have more success asking a random person to host a wurm server than asking anyone on these servers to help surface mine.

      i don't like this. it's okay to tweak them to make them more forgiving, but allowing everyone to be priests with absolutely no drawbacks is going to force everyone to be a priest in order to be competitive, which is going to effectively double their required grinding in order to not be useless. this is a bad idea imo and i doubt i'll stick around on this server if you keep that setting.

      i like the classic 3 kingdoms + freedom, but i wouldn't throw a fit about being forced to play freedom. i like having everyone in one kingdom chat, but i also think it's much more interesting to worry about encountering players from other kingdoms in the wild. doing it this way will probably make the communications more lively, but take away most of the sense of danger and mystery from adventuring.

      this is a dealbreaker for me and a number of others. alts are ways to take the edge of tedious work (mining, terraforming, making building materials) or to get around priest restrictions (which should always exist to balance out costs and benefits of magic). personally i get bored playing just one character. here's my feedback: you can put that rule into writing, but the minute you start actually enforcing it, you will begin to lose players.

      kind of sad to hear they're going to be removed, since they're pretty iconic for those two priests. i doubt you can give them anything to adequately replace them, but i'll hear you out when you suggest alternatives.

      don't do dedicated hosts, pay a service for it. it's worth it.

      get this sorted out well before you host. test things for a few days before going live.

        I'll have to look into how to change them, I've currently just got enable/disable working. I know other servers have changed that though, so its definitely possible. If we have normal restrictions, we'd pretty much have everyone running at least one alt for priesting.

        PVP is enabled within the kingdom. Anyone can kill anyone right now, unless you deed up together/forge alliances with deeds. Others have expressed concerns about server pop not supporting this well. We'll probably gauge this with a test run a week before launch to see how many actually want to play.

        I'm actually getting a lot more pushback on this than I was expecting. I just don't want to see an army of robots running a village **this is important as I plan on having trade routes/bulk goods being valuable**. Looking like we might go with a gentlemans agreement and go case by case based on what players want.

        Been digging, might be a way to limit what gets dominated/revived. I agree, zombie crocs are a lot of fun, but I've seen people use a zombie warmaster to tank a full dragon no problem.

        Absolutely. If I go 3rd party hosting I'll just need one that lets me upload my own client, as I don't think thats a mod/setting.

          the main way I see something like that happening is if someone does it because they get a kick out of it, which is generally how most things in the game happen. it's how you get autists with 70 skill in puppetry. fricking PUPPETRY WHY.

          I am rethinking this stance. I know I've been there when the one guy that does x isn't around so you have to pick that up as well as your current skill.

          Starting to think I'll need a website or something to track all current plans/settings so I don't have to edit posts.

          Having unrestricted priests with low + constant gains is like mixing bleach and ammonia.
          It was mentioned earlier that allowing everyone to be a priest _forces_ everyone to be a priest or fall behind the power curve, and putting this policy in place along with slower faith gains for """longevity""" is actually giving each person three or four times the amount of mindless busywork and grinding already present in the game that takes away from the fun stuff like exploring and building and PvPing.
          To add to this, most people who play a lot know that certain skills/jobs are borderline psychological torture with how tedious and time-consuming they are (mining, making bricks and planks, digging, terraforming) so they alleviate some of this boredom by using alts. I personally tend to play 2+ characters at once, and I'll use my main for fun stuff while I alt-tab every few minutes to queue up boring but necessary shit on my alt. Some people go full bottermode, but that's a much bigger problem.
          If you give everyone 3x the amount of work to do by forcing them to be priests or be weaker than everyone else, then you slow down their action timers and skillgain rates (3x is barely tolerable with alts), then prevent them from using alts to take care the boring shit, you are guaranteeing burnout and player loss within days.

          All of us want to play wurm. We just want the server to be a good one rather than yet another poorly-thought out shitfest that dies in three weeks. Please listen to feedback and think carefully before committing to anything.

            if youre doing boring shit why not do it on your main for those sweet attribute gains? if you use your alt once every 3 minutes with 3 action slots depending on the action you only get like 40-20% efficiency with it while losing progress with your main by lesser but still significant amount

            Not my specialty but I'm trying. This week I'm making sure I can configure things with mods without the server exploding to see what we can/can't do, settings are very much open to debate.

            With the current no daily limit setup, you can get 50 faith in about an hour. Maybe more now that I got action timers to speed up praying like other actions. Channeling would also be easier as we should have rune of recall enabled. Id like priesting to be painless since at end game it IS needed, and I don't want the people going priest to heal feeling like they are missing out. The idea wasn't for longevity, its to make the grind easier/not timegated. I just don't want anybody who needs to miss a few days feel left behind on priest status.

            I'll have to look into changing restriction settings. I know its possible, I've seen servers that have done it. I just don't want the priests to be so left out that they can't even improve items with standard restrictions.

            If the preference is the standard full restrictions/5 day prayer we can work with that.

              I like the idea of giving priests a break and making sure they don't feel like they fall behind the curve due to timegating.
              As a compromise, and to make use of cross-faith linking, how about removing restrictions but splitting each god's spell pools into multiple player demigods, and finding a way to prevent people from going with the vanilla regular gods?
              So, rather than being a priest of Fo who can chop trees and build houses and imp shit with a full spell list, how about you give Fo 2-3 template demigods, where one of them has the combat spells, one has buffs, and one has utility/farming/enchant spells?
              That way you get everybody going priest, which is gonna happen anyway, but it spreads the burden out so that being a priest gives you a small and specialized advantage of your choice, rather than a massive power boost over non-priests.
              It would take some tinkering with stuff but I think it'd be fun.

      scrapping priest restrictions is not a good idea. tweaking them would be fine, but they're restricted in what they can do for a reason. also toning down faith gains with low rates will kill people's desire to play too. you talk about grind and longevity in the same breath, not realizing that those two cancel each other out. the harder players grind to get to the skill levels they need, the faster they burn themselves out. i see that you've already been told not to go all freedom, half the appeal of the serbs is the faction drama.

      i have literally no idea why you would want to enforce this. i often end up making an alt that is solely for cooking, because i don't have time to grind my FS and also do everything else. you seem to be versed in wurm so i'll assume you're some sort of oldgay with good intentions, but this will be a huge deal breaker. player pop has been low for a while on these serbs and often you end up with one person doing multiple jobs with an alt or two.

      and before you say the usual "well that's why people need to specialize!", that's how people burn themselves out- trying to grind their balls off for hours because they're not allowed to do anything else.

      i agree with most of this but i 100% agree that pirate client needs to be fully sorted out and dealt with before you launch anything. get some of the boys together to help with this

          I don't dislike the idea of tweaking priests for the better, I just feel like making them grindable makes for some dangerous shit. We all know some autist will grind his dick into paste trying to max his priest out by day 5.

          It's not about being broken and OP, it's more about utilizing your time between two characters doing mundane tasks. I love having an alt specifically for cooking so I can park them infront of a stove and chip bricks mindlessly while also feeding everyone.

            i know that people use alts without botting(which is moronic in my opinion) i just dont understand why wouldnt you just do cooking after you chop bricks or in between to break the monotony
            if you just grind bricks for 3 days straight youll gonna get bored real quick even if you use a million alts, while also splitting your skills over multiple characters and losing on attribute gains

      I'm pretty sure this won't work out as you think it will, especially if youre doing it from wyvern then i cannot stress enough that it is NOT going to work like you think it will
      If you can, try to set up only 2 factions instead of the normal 3 to funnel people better

        There should be clay, just double checked the actions log. Set them to 1 tile but should be scattered everywhere. I'll try and fly around later tonight to confirm, and if there isn't I'll just manually paint some in.

        All I can ask for is no reimu action normalizer bullshit, no shitty wyvernmod, and for the love of frick don't make a shitty decision because YOU want it that way as the admin. If you wanna curb things like Fenlaw having a harmless bot army each server that exists, then do some adminning, or frick even limit it to one alt. Doing shit like this on our already small population is just gonna make people not join and then you'll go "huh i guess nobody wants to play wurm" and we'll wait 6 more months

        Also frick priests being strong as shit, this never helps anything, just a tweak or two but frick letting them have full permissions or ez AHK overnight gains

        Action normalizer isn't going to make the cut for stability concerns.

        This is the first complaint about it I've seen- what part of Wyvrnmod don't you like?

        I've walked back my stance on alts, I'll have more details once I get a website up listing settings/mod properties so we can have all that info centralized instead of spread out in multiple posts on multiple sites.

        Haven't had a chance to look into alternate priest restrictions yet but its on my list. I don't think we had restrictions on for the past 3 servers, didn't realize this was a concern.

          Would you be open to the idea of giving each character a limited amount of affinities for the specific skills they're going to be grinding?

          I'm not talking about getting a affinity orb and having to deal with it's random choices.

            I just remember a lot of frickery from servers past when it came to wyvernmod contradicting other code and just breaking some mods, or things like deeding. Every server i've seen it used some catastrophic shit happened early on

            I am having a problem with the bounty module not working with everything else, but I've got it disabled for now. Had planned on money being accumulated by other means, but if anybody knows what causes that let me know.

            The bar for having a functional server with a tolerable map is fairly low.
            The bar for having a good server with an interesting map is fairly high.
            Do not put off 'til tomorrow what you can start today. Better yet, reach out to past hosts and ask them for advice and volunteer work on dungeonsmithing. I have a feeling I know who the host of this server is, and I know why you want to remain anonymous, but you should swallow your pride and ask your predecessors for help. You may not have made any mistakes yet, but that only means you've had less opportunities to learn from them.
            None of us want to play on a bad server, and although I'm choosing to be optimistic here I still agree with [...].

            Thats what I'm doing posting and asking for feedback on settings right now. I've already walked back on alts and I'm going to stick with tradition and use 3x/3x for rates instead of 2x/3x. Plan on testing the yarhar files linked earlier either tomorrow or this weekend.

              Wow, how did I miss that before now. We've played together on a lot of serbs in the past, but I didn't know you were interested in hosting one yourself. I remember when you and I were playing on HotS together once and went sailing out on a treasuremap expedition with a few other lads, and you had to log out in the middle of the woods because of an IRL storm where you lived or something, then a tree fell on your house I think.
              Hope you're doing okay, I'll be there when your serb goes up. Don't mind the lads arguing about mods and rules, we all just wanna have a great serb. Do your best to make everyone happy and things will be fine.

          Give me some reasons why I should even consider playing on this server.

          Is there any content besides endless monotonous grinding?

          GM Events? Quests? Hidden dungeons with loot worth getting?

          What makes your map worth playing on that we haven't already done before?

          So far, this is looking to be just another Wurm Unlimited server that was just cobbled together at the last minute with a half-assed attempt at making one.

            I have quests/dungeon construction on hold until we get hosting/mod configuration finalized. Wish I had more to tempt you with, but I'm not going heavy on that until we get everything else done.

            The new 'twist' this time will be a greater focus on economy/trade runs. I'll be posting more info on that next week after I finalize hosting and we've ironed out initial settings/rates/mod properties.

              That does not inspire any confidence I have for your server, it only proves to me that you have no idea what you're doing which makes this babbys first wurm server. Am I wrong?

      I've played on a few of the older servers and I like the lack of priest restrictions. I want to be able to do my Magranon priest RP but as a sort of Paladin instead of some cloth-wearing priestgay who can't swing a sword. Also, it's annoying as frick that you're supposed to train so and so first, and THEN become a priest. Absolutely kills any sense of fun when you need to spend your first week digging for bs gains. Making a boat is also absolutely soulcrushing. I'd rather go for like 3x/5x Action/Skill. Still, I'd understand the restrictions staying or just partially so that people who chose not to be one can be stronger in other ways. In that case, though, there should definitely not be an allowance for alts since that would just give gays a way to get around it anyway, completely defeating the purpose.

      Speaking of which; no alts is a GOOD thing. Fricking homosexuals like

You get around busywork like that by having other fricking people who also do their part. If you want to solo you might as well play by yourself.

      It's been so long I don't even remember what I could do as a priest. I think I just went around placing altars every 10 feet and proselytizing like Jehova's Witness. A replacement would definitely be nice, though.

      As for pirate clients, I used one in the past before I got unlimited legitimately. We had someone around that basically put together a launcher and autoupdater for it and everything, but I don't have any contact with them. Maybe some of the other people who played (which I do have contact with) might know more about it from the technical side.

      Downloading now. I can tell you right now though I don't think the action normalizer is going to make it in. My Javas not that strong and I don't want the server crashing/resetting everyones timers like last time.

      I think we'll do a stress test to see if everything works online for a few days a week before official launch to test things. Will be a good way to gauge population but you aren't the first to mention that single kingdom might be a bad idea. Its on my list.

        You just use the WurmLaucher.exe application, if you're using a pirate client the server list will be empty and you'll have to join a pirate friendly server using the "connect by IP" on the bottom left. I don't think the hostgay has a test serb up yet so if you want to to test that everything works, you'll have to set up a local server using WurmServerLauncher.exe and connect to it via the game launcher.

          So, I ran WurmLaucher.exe and its just showing a CMD window with "Press any key to continue...". Then running the WurmServerLauncher.exe, I get "Failed to load jvm.dll".

                You shouldn't be using any .jar files for anything. Have you tried with a fresh unzipped folder? Just unzip and run the .exe file in WurmLauncher folder? I'll see if I can get someone else to try downloading to see if they have the same issue.

            The game or server is not starting, and sometimes the message "Failed to load jvm.dll" is visible.
            This happens when the game for some reason is unable to load the jvm.dll that we provided with installation.
            By default the game looks for Java within the runtime folders, however you can override this behavior by editing the LaunchConfig.ini.

            You need to set OverrideJavaRegEntry to true and JavaPath to where you have Java installed and where the jvm.dll is located.

    Going to shill my favorite (self made) mod here too.

    What it does:
    All actions are speed up inversely based on how often you do actions (and how long they take).
    If my math is not wrong, it means that everyone is on the same playing field regardless of how many hours a day they play.
    This kills the advantages of botting 24/7 but unfortunately buffs having alts.
    For normal players, it means that there is no point to grind 12 hours a day since actively playing for 2 hours is the very same thing due to faster actions.
    Also, you don't feel like time is wasting if you are moving things around or just stay afk for a minute or two, it all evens out anyways.

    The obvious downside is that extremely autistic people will not push past others, since playtime is now not relevant to how far you can push your skills, it also buffs alts due to them being offline accumulating speed up to spend on stuff like mining and whatnot, thus everyone will be running a ton of alts.

    If OP and the community is fine with this, I will build a ready to use .jar for it. Just a reminder that the default settings are a defacto 4x speed up so the server rates need to be downgraded to compensate.

      I like the idea of tweaking action speeds, and the "stored time" system is a really clever and elegant way to do it. The last server had a lot of problems and your mod wasn't well received, but have you ever thought of taking that whole concept and putting it into the game in a different way, for different reasons? It would be really neat to have a spell that gave the same effects for a limited time, or maybe a big rite that required multiple priests but filled a faction/village's "bank" of stored time and would apply that AN rate to everyone within.
      Your mod was technically impressive anon, but wasn't received well by most people (at least those of us in hots) for lots of reasons. Defeating botting is impossible, but the work you did is cool and I'd love to see it repurposed in a more controlled way that didn't affect absolutely everything players did.

        It does remove all advantages of botting besides convenience, at the cost of making alts way too strong.
        And well, literally the only reason I did it was to be able to use my bot without needing to hide that I am botting, since I only bot because it's more convenient rather than because it's stronger to do so (Not that i don't micro optimize my bots scripts anyways, but it's just because I might as well rather than being the objective).

        I don't think there is any other good reason for the mod to exist, there is the happy accident that you never need to be in a rush for anything since it will be all the same in the end, you can just take your time and relax, and well, the source is released. If anyone can figure a different way to use the tech they are more than welcome.

        i've had a few ideas to make bots less incentivized, such as burner drills you can set in front of a tile, load a crate into, power with fuel, and it'll slowly mine out stone/ores at a mining skill equal to its QL
        imped with mining so that it doesn't make them obsolete, and it won't ever be as good as a real miner, but it'll help with the bulk mining operations that people generally tolerate bots for doing

        i just don't think botting has a place in wurm, i like the slow gradual gameplay of building up a village and bots blitz through that

        You'll want sandstone for the alchemy mod if/when we get there. New mod enables non priests to have some spell access out of combat (buffs, heals, temporary weapon enchants). If the mod doesn't make it in (its still a relatively new one) I also plan on disintegration rods being easier to access so dorfs don't have to struggle draining a vein to have a nice cave home.

            Channeling grind should also be easier with the mark/recall rune mod. Lets you take a chisel to a marble brick to create a lightweight item that gives you channeling skill. The no daily limit on prayers should also help, but some have expressed concerns that making it too easy will make it feel mandatory.

        I cant remember the entire story but IIRC Discord Relay crashed Sindusk's entire server and another modder mad the updated Discord Relay which fixed whatever issues it was causing. I would use the one in my mod list to be on the safe side.

      yes they do. You dont need a bare metal or a GPU instance for a wurm server. Get the memory optimized cloud compute server and run the second option for 16GB ram, 2 vcpus and 100GB of storage.

        I think the past 3-4 serbs we've run 3x/3x, which is what it should be at now. Once you get your tool ql and skill over 50 things start speeding up big time.

        Daily update: Serb is now accepting any and all clients and hosts all flavors of mods like the dirty bawd it is. I'll be moving previously tested mods and configs over tomorrow, as well as posting more info about the trade gimmick.

    Daily update: Despite my best efforts to parse rolfcode, Steam clients will only be able to log in one client at a time. If you want to run an alt on a 2nd client, you'll need non-steam. Wyvernmod and other mod settings have been moved to the new host and double checked. Final mod incorporation (alchemy and more) soon. Configured server map for network communication on the new server, provided you have the correct client-side mods.

    Update on priest settings: I'm leaning more towards standard priests. If we divide them into subcategories the way they were suggested earlier/in other threads, that will put even more stress on villages to get priest alts. I'm also not seeing any options to customize priest restrictions, but I'll keep looking. Unless we find ways to easily customize restrictions, they will likely be off, but we may just do an in game poll for the stress test a week before launch to finalize.

    Wanted to hold off on this so people could discuss alts and priests fully, but now its time for the shitty/fun gimmick for Brotunheim: TRADE
    This time around, we'll be using the Buyer NPC mod. Instead of standard traders offering sleep powder and buying spare lint and goblin teeth, these guys will buy their listed items in bulk. I've configured them to buy any amount(no limit) of whatever good they list (each one will have specific requests and quality limits). Thousands of rockshards laying around and you've already finished your colossus? Maybe someone else could use those rocks...

    We'll have 2 types of buyers (maybe more) starting out:
    Both will be disabled at launch, but after a few days we'll have a regular one that will be up 24/7, but will be moved around the map daily. This one will buy bulk/hard to move items(and more may be added as time goes on).
    The other type will be open for a limited time (items/times will be announced in advance) at a random location, and will buy at higher prices, and buy a wider variety of items.

      Between bounties from kills, treasure maps, and the new buyers, there should be plenty of ways to earn cash this time around- fighters, harvesters, and crafters will all be rich in Brotunheim. But what will you do with your money? Aside from the usual COCAINUM spending, there will be other merchants visiting, offering a little more than you might be used to.

      Would you like a resurrection stone to preserve your skills on death? Magical potions and tomes? A new affinity? Perhaps a high quality map to find even greater treasures? All this and a few other fun things can be yours, for a price. Whatever you decide, just make sure you bring friends when you take trips to the market. They don't sell wagon insurance in Brotunheim, and the merchants don't really care how the goods they buy were acquired.

      Prices will be high enough that these will all still be valuable, but attainable no matter what focus your character has.

      There will also be the usual dungeons and secrets to find, so if you'd rather earn your riches, that option is available too. I'll post hints on some of the threats and adventures hidden next week.

      For now, let me know what you think about TRADE!

          I vaguely remember these had to be manually deleted on past servers, but I'll check the .properties once more in what I've got. I think the only options are to change what items are in them. There will be other things to find.

          Daily update: Won't have much time the next few days so expect slightly less progress. Finalized a list of round 2 mods and moved them over to the server. Testing will begin for them tomorrow. These ones are smaller changes so it should be less painful.

            its a setting from inside the game, changed after you make yourself a GM. once you have the ebony wand, activate it, right click on it, then under Creatures select Feature Management. make sure that the "Random Treasure CHests" are unchecked, and dont forget to make server changes here too like making sure tower chaining is a feature that is turned off

    Update: Mods are in and configured. Sadly, the individual DPS mod did not make the cut (likely due to yarhar settings, still under investigation). The refuel mod also didn't make it in, so forges will still be manually fed. Construction was briefly interrupted by a (now disabled) mod that was eating items.

    Sneak peak: Alchemy is fully in, and I have made it...substantially stronger. You can still die from poisoning if you chug too many, but you won't need to grip and sip that often.

The whitelight/blacklight have been moved to their new home (despite complaints from a certain b***hy black light god), and construction has begun on both the altars and spawns.     So, some of you have been asking about events, fights, and things to find. Today, you get that info.

    MONSTERS:
    I'm setting the aggressive count high, and creature spawns equally high. Current plan is 80k, 50% aggressive. This will include worgs and Sol demons, so if you don't have a fast horse, have friends (or a resurrection stone). We'll also be putting a few wyverns in manually (as they don't spawn naturally in pvp settings) among other mobs. Lairs will also be used to help increase variety, but there will be no reward for destroying them.

    EXPLORATION:
    Once you've brushed off your rust and started leaving spawn to set up your new deed, you'll likely meet one of the 5 sages. While currently they will only guide you on your meditation path of choice, they may be able to help you with later endeavors against far greater threats.

    There are rumors of the dead rising in the eastern swamps.
    While the Journey East-West trading company has sent scouts to the area, none have returned.
    You might need to bring more than a small scouting party to see what lurks beneath the swamps.
    And if you seek an audience with the man(king) responsible, you should bring a small army of well trained fighters.

    Worse still, rumblings can be heard from the mountains in the central regions. None even dare venture here, save those given to madness. Who knows what horrors lurk beneath Brotunheim?

    But not all is lost.
    The Temple of the Sun and the Sanctum of the Moon might be able to help more experienced fighters.
    And of course, the J.E.W. is always willing to help for a small fee.

      TREASURE MAPS:
      These will also be able to spawn uniques and titans once you can get them above 90 ql (I might lower it to make things spicier). Any unique killed will also randomly put moonmetal veins in the world- you're going to want to clear as many of these as possible. If you haven't had enough adventure, the maps will be able to give you even more of a fight.

      EVENTS:
      Aside from the exploration and dungeoneering, we'll have a few more lighthearted events to celebrate surviving the harsh lands. Your deed might get a visit from the Brewmasters League of Merchants, the Agriculture Technology Federation, and maybe even a recently swamp-evicted troll.

      We'll also have scheduled events, either Tue or Sun. The first of such events will be a (hopefully) peaceful gathering- a celebration of surviving the first week in a harsh land. Expect gifts, drinks, food, and maybe a surprise or two. Teleportation will be provided.

      STRESS TEST:
      We will have a pre-launch stress test event July 27th, 6pm-9pm US central time. This will give us a chance to make sure the server can handle everybodies autism at the same time. This will ALSO give everyone a chance to double check their client settings, reserve their names, and provide feedback. We'll be taking final feedback on priest restrictions and other server settings. Arrive asap, as I'd like to get the feedback early!

      We'll have some combat dummies up for people to get their fs to 20 before launch, as well as a free 30ql weapon of choice! We'll also offer your initial profession affinity (no characteristics)!

      I hope to see all of you bastards on the 27th, and I can't wait to see what you'll do when the gates open on the 2nd.

          I've attracted a few volunteers with experience that were able to provide yarhar settings for the server and help add quests/discoverable content. Not giving names as I figure they will make themselves known if they are comfortable with it, but I've known them from past serbs.

          Not sure how much time I'll have today, but Sanctum of the Moon is now also open(for business). Also confirmed that the automated database backups are good, so if the server explodes we should at most lose 4 hours of progress.

          This is the first server I've hosted for anons, but I've played on several of the past ones. I forget their names, but the magic server, the zodiac server, the 8k map, and I think the russian one before that. It's been a wild ride and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

          I've fricked about on a few public servers since but never with the same name. The sorry state of public servers is part of what motivated me to take up the burden this time.

            UPDATES: Its the last night before the stress test, and the event grounds are looking good. The Journey East-West trading company has finished construction on their new outposts, and should be full of things to buy soon. Meanwhile, the threats in the marsh continue to grow.

            On the technical front: I've doubled the droprate for treasure maps from most gathering activities and vastly expanded the list of mobs that can drop maps. Alchemy has received ANOTHER buff, so if priest restrictions do get turned on, you'll still have more than enough magic. Breeding rates are also doubled. Smelting pots have been re-enabled. I'm going to leave properties on the website alone for now and save updating that for after the stress test (tomorrow, 6-9pm cst).

            Really excited to see everyone tomorrow for the stress test. Can't wait to see you all in Brotunheim!

                I've played on a few of the older servers and I like the lack of priest restrictions. I want to be able to do my Magranon priest RP but as a sort of Paladin instead of some cloth-wearing priestgay who can't swing a sword. Also, it's annoying as frick that you're supposed to train so and so first, and THEN become a priest. Absolutely kills any sense of fun when you need to spend your first week digging for bs gains. Making a boat is also absolutely soulcrushing. I'd rather go for like 3x/5x Action/Skill. Still, I'd understand the restrictions staying or just partially so that people who chose not to be one can be stronger in other ways. In that case, though, there should definitely not be an allowance for alts since that would just give gays a way to get around it anyway, completely defeating the purpose.

                Speaking of which; no alts is a GOOD thing. Fricking homosexuals like [...] saying that they need alts to get around priest restrictions in the same breath they say priest restrictions need to be there or else there's no reason not to be one. They just want to set up 20 fricking bots to do all the busywork shit and get an edge over on people who aren't autistic WoW homosexuals and don't want to multibox like it's a fricking second job. You get around busywork like that by having other fricking people who also do their part. If you want to solo you might as well play by yourself.

                It's been so long I don't even remember what I could do as a priest. I think I just went around placing altars every 10 feet and proselytizing like Jehova's Witness. A replacement would definitely be nice, though.

                As for pirate clients, I used one in the past before I got unlimited legitimately. We had someone around that basically put together a launcher and autoupdater for it and everything, but I don't have any contact with them. Maybe some of the other people who played (which I do have contact with) might know more about it from the technical side.

                I just need one, dude. I think you have an skill issue if you can't do literally everything with just one non priest bot while you have fun on your priest. Also, priest full plate is completely viable if you just make a macro that replaces your cloth/plate around.

                Priest restrictions and alt status will also be finalized tonight. Sneak peak on where I'm currently at with this: Declare who your alt is so we know who is who with a gentlemans agreement which I'll lay out at the stress test. For priest restrictions, the only setting that's going to stay is the no daily limit on prayers. I'm fine with them both on and off, and in toying with the settings, we might have some extra content depending on which is chosen.

Disabling pots makes blacksmithing even more tedious, makes pottery even more useless, and makes miners even more crucial and demanding. Just accept the pots. You don't "abuse" pots, you are using them for their intended purposes. Claiming they shouldn't be in the game at all is like claiming priests shouldn't be in the game simply because you don't like the purpose of priests and you're mad about anons who are clever enough to trivialize the grinding to play one, or dedicated enough to multibox in order to play three.

                Out of curiosity, I tried to smelt adamantine ore just to see if it was possible to abuse those mechanics and get 18-19 kg of ore (since you lose a small percentage in the smelting process) instead of the standard israeliteelrymetal lump size of 0.40.
                I put two things into the force, a 99 QL adamantine greatsword and a 99 QL standard size pile of adamantine ore. I created a 99 QL smelting pot.
                First I heated the sword up and smelted it, that's the 3.51 kg lump. Then I heated up the ore and waited for it to be glowing hot (the "smelt" option doesn't even appear unless the object is above a certain temperature).
                Even when it became glowing hot, my efforts to smelt it only produced the messages you see in my event log. The game continually told me that the ore needed to be hotter, and when it finally DID become hot enough, it automatically smelted itself into the standard-size 0.40 lump. I was unable to smelt it into a 20ish-kg lump.
                Feel free to recreate my experiment and see the results yourself.
                Please provide sources and evidence for your claim that "ores can be smelted into 20kg lumps" otherwise I'll just assume you don't actually know what you're talking about.
                Thanks for the interesting experiment, now feel free to do your own so you can try to prove what you say.

                If you want to bother testing it again, try with a QL1 ore, ores naturally smelt faster at higher qualities. Smelting pots require items to be over glowing hot to smelt so that's normal.
                The trick only worked with adamantine because it is a ore that requires specifically higher temp than other ores, at a point where you could reach "smelting pot temperature" before it would reach "natural smelting" temp.
                It could just be fixed like the other anon pointed out, but I am sure I once did it with a QL20 ore in a very old server (over 10 years ago I believe)

    A big thank you to everyone that showed up to the stress test. I'm glad the server was able to survive the wave of autism. Not so glad about the new pool in the event grounds, but ruining GM clay is a time honored tradition.

    A brief summary for those who couldn't make it:
    Everyone got their starting weapons. Some learned the importance of repairing your gear the hard way. A few more learned what 'full loot pvp' means.

    Smelting pots are going to start disabled, but will be enabled later after completion of a server wide quest. By the time you unlock the smelting secrets, you'll have advanced far enough skill wise for it not to have as large of an impact.

    We settled on the launch date and time as Tuesday, August 2nd at 6:00pm CST.

    The fertilizing mod will be added, so anons can water their crops and harvest plants out of season. This opens up a lot of options to the chefs and brewers.

    Alts were discussed, and we're requesting all alts be registered to your main. After some discussion, there is now an agreement that alts won't be used excessively for grinding skills as a 2nd character, for trade abuse, or for any combat role.

    Priest settings were hotly debated, and we put it to a full vote. Against all odds, the vote was a straight split out of 20 participants. As such, I've gone and made an executive decision: I'm disabling all priest restrictions. Let the crusades begin.

    We also handed out some potions for people to test with, and had a few deaths to confirm that yes, you can overdose on buffs and die.

    I'll post more info in the next few days about the alchemy system. For now, 6 months is only a week away!

        I'll take that. Draw distance has always been my biggest problem with Wurm. It adds so much to the immersion when you can actually see shit in the distance.

        I've actually used this and tested it myself for an upcoming serb someday. It's pretty simple, just dump it into the server mods and no further effort required. The clients have to use it as well, though it won't cause any bugs or crashes if they choose to go without it. You can configure the drawdistance yourself easily ingame. I'll post some pictures of the results tomorrow.

              Turns out, after figuring out how hard it would be to make a mod that fixes your camera to a input position, I stumbled on the free camera mode the game already has implemented but locked off. There was already a mod for enabling it.

            Now, for more information on ALCHEMY
            What you'll need:
            >cauldron of water, boiled to purification
            >hearts, from any living creature
            >herbs of various design. befriend a gardener/farmer.
            >phials, made from sandstone, clay moulds, ash and salt
            >and most importantly, your autism.

            When combined and brewed in the correct order, you can have magic in a can. Grip and sip for things like:
            >healing potions, aka pocket fo priests
            >any buff spell you want, ql determines strenght, but always 30 minutes in duration
            >any weapon enchant as a 15 minute weapon oil, STACKS with existing enchants
            >maybe somebody gets really good at it and we see how strong the wisdom of vynora potion is

            The only drawback is that drinking a potion incurs a 2 minute cooldown, and cannot be used while in combat. Attempting to chug multiple doses can result in severe poison wounds, death, and erectile dysfunction.

            Even with everyone picking a priest flavor, this ensures you can pick more based on your devotion to a deity instead of a spell list.

            We are less than 24 hours away from launch. Get your snacks. Get your piss bottles. 6 months is almost over.

        Your corpse will be lootable, so if you die in pvp combat you'll probably need to replace everything you were carrying. For most pve you can just run back or summon the corpse with karma. You'll lose fighting skill and 3 non combat skills will also lose points, but there are items, meditation paths, and faiths that can protect from skill loss.

    First, have a gander at the spawn locations. I've tried to keep things more central while still spread enough to avoid hour 0 raiding. Plan your fortress or rush to claim the comfiest hermit hut.

      Now, for more information on ALCHEMY
      What you'll need:
      >cauldron of water, boiled to purification
      >hearts, from any living creature
      >herbs of various design. befriend a gardener/farmer.
      >phials, made from sandstone, clay moulds, ash and salt
      >and most importantly, your autism.

      When combined and brewed in the correct order, you can have magic in a can. Grip and sip for things like:
      >healing potions, aka pocket fo priests
      >any buff spell you want, ql determines strenght, but always 30 minutes in duration
      >any weapon enchant as a 15 minute weapon oil, STACKS with existing enchants
      >maybe somebody gets really good at it and we see how strong the wisdom of vynora potion is

      The only drawback is that drinking a potion incurs a 2 minute cooldown, and cannot be used while in combat. Attempting to chug multiple doses can result in severe poison wounds, death, and erectile dysfunction.

      Even with everyone picking a priest flavor, this ensures you can pick more based on your devotion to a deity instead of a spell list.

      We are less than 24 hours away from launch. Get your snacks. Get your piss bottles. 6 months is almost over.

      If I remember correctly, when you use aggressive with a HEAVY weapon it decreases the swing timer by one second. Dual wielding doubles the swing timer on the off hand weapon.

      Aggressive is for two handers. Normal for everything else. I believe one handed weapons get a small bonus to swing time in aggressive but it's not worth it for the complete loss of parry.

      Defensive is only good if you're planning to become the town tank for dragons and other high level shit. Youll need to level taunt and shield bash with it.

    Found one of Nuggro's stuff. Plenty cool with environmental story telling. Couldn't take the best item there for it was too heavy, but I will find a way eventually once I can actually defeat what was protecting the place rather than just abuse horses to steal anything not bolted to the ground.

      You can only tend your fields once per hour, but really that's just an skill issue, because there is no limit on how big your farm can be. Go for world record.

      I disagree, this is the best thing that's happened to wurm servers since it was first introduced to Ganker.
      Having no kingdoms to start out with encourages players to find a niche without worrying about being outclassed by bots or other players with more spare time. Since there are no kingdoms, there are no identities beyond villages and deeds. Instead, identity is defined by land. Precious clay becomes that much more precious.
      It does not matter if you're a shitty farmer, shitty carpenter, shitty shipwright, or even a frickoff hermit in the middle of nowhere. You have a niche by simple land rights.       Lastly, his plot of land is out in the wilderness, so it's quite likely some mobs will attack your worksite. Bring weapons and have a plan for this (hint hint).

        Furniture and decorations are included in the project, yes. You can try to make your own furniture beforehand, but without knowing Mr. Goldberg's expectations, there's no way to be sure if what you're making will be a good match for this event :^)

        Hermits are strongly encouraged to go with one team in particular (details to follow later in the week), but we're not gonna be hardasses about it, and you're welcome to work with the other teams. Just be sure to let us know beforehand.
        In case it wasn't clear in the description, this is an event with both co-operative and competitive elements; the better the whole project is, then the more money everyone makes, BUT, each team will have a specific area of responsibility, and whichever team does the best job with their own area gets a special bonus on top of the payout at the end.

      And now we come to JUDGING AND PRIZES:
      As stated earlier, the prize pool will be between one and five gold (100-500 silver), divided equally among all contestants.
      Two "inspectors" (Nobody and Nuggro) will rate the estate between 1-5, and the average of their scores will be the "prize pool". Morarn may be asked to temporarily serve as a judge in order to settle a tie.
      Additionally, whichever of the three villages does the best job on their task earns an exclusive trader for 48 hours! Note for hermits, if your team (Brokyo by default) wins and you're nowhere near the victorious village, then you'll receive a trader at your hermitage offering the same deals at a modest markup to compensate for the trader's troubles.

      Expect the location to be revealed about a day before the event, and then you'll hear some final instructions from Mr. Goldberg himself two hours before the event starts (4 PM CST).

      Finally, it's time to reveal the location of the building event!
      Mr. Goldberg owns a large private island in the southwest corner of the map, recently connected to the mainland via a very expensive bridge. He wants hits house placed somewhere on the island, and it's up to the village responsible for groundskeeping and landscaping to figure out where (Brokyo + hermits if you weren't paying attention). On the mainland side of the Goldberg Bridge is a temporary depot being constructed, which will serve as a gathering point, storage facility, and workstation while the house is being built tomorrow. The coords of the depot are 956 / 9594, feel free to travel there and park your cart / boat overnight, it'll surely be useful to move materials tomorrow. In the pictures provided, the island circled in gold is Mr. Goldberg's island, where the house should be built. The purple dot/star is the depot, and the vertical black line is the bridge connecting the mainland to the island.

      While you *can* technically start building already, remember that Mr. Goldberg has some very important and precise instructions he's going to give you as to how he wants this job handled, and you'll hear those at 4 PM CST tomorrow, about two hours before the event. See you there!

        -Main House: "I want stone walls, but not regular bricks, use something interesting and exotic. The house doesn't have to be huge, but it needs to be larger than the guest house, and my bedroom must be on the second floor with a nice view. My maid, chef, and gardener are all religious, so we'll need somewhere out-of-sight in the house to put their altars and prayer rugs - I don't want to see it or walk past it, just hide it somewhere. One last thing, my wife hates plain colors, so make sure the interior decorations have lots of color and texture."

        -Guest House: "It should look more like a cottage or a cabin than a real house, I don't want my worthless kids to think they're better than me when they come visit. Make sure there's a nice playroom for the grandkids, though, with lots of color. There should be a couple bedrooms, a living and dining room, and maybe a small kitchen. Oh, and make sure to include a garage. I don't want one attached to the main house, I hate hearing it open when I'm trying to work, so I'll just put it on the guest house."

      Insanity is the same way, removing the damage resist for a at max rank 12% reduced action timer. Worse than Knowledge's skill gain in effectively everyway while most action timers are no longer than 2-3 seconds anyways.

      Badmin here. I'm going to try to address as many concerns as I can (I missed the festivities last night).

      Admin muting should 100% never be happening, and 1000% won't happen again. The same goes for healing/interfering with any pvp. Thats a pretty big frickup, but a very easy fix. The offending GM has volunteered to step down from GM related duties over it, but I'm withholding final judgment on that for now.

      The meditation changes are such a core part of what wyvernmod does I didn't even think to mention them, so I can take some of the blame on that. The cooldown for path changing should also be removed, so you can just sit down and go through the questions for another path one after another.

      are the server mod configs even updated to match the server or are they just the default settings?

      I haven't updated them in several days, but for the most part they are still accurate. The updates have been mostly bug fixes. I'll be updating that by the end of the day. We'll have a quick restart before 3pm cst to fix boats and distilling.

      As a general note, the main prize of the skeleton(goblin) king fight is the blood. The loot he drops isn't actually that great compared to other uniques. Now that he's dead, we'll be populating a few dragons and hatchlings into the world later tonight as part of the next tier of challenges/2nd dungeon preparing to open. Detroit/smelting pot quest should be up by tonight for those who thirst for more combat.

          Despite all odds, someone has managed to out-maneuver both the guards and the inmates of detroit, and escaped with the smelting pot of destiny! He quickly turned the pot in to the local badmins so as to prevent the temporary...melanin enhancement... from becoming permanent. Thanks to his cowardly antics, smelting pots will be enabled after the next server restart tomorrow morning!

    While we're airing out server troubles, we had a player quit because the meditation setting in Wyvern or whichever mod that turns off path of hate's damage ability was enabled and no one was told about this.

    In the dead of the night, a vigilante went through Detroit and killed every single peaceful protestor and their dogs, it's unknown who or why did that, only that it was extremely racist.
    In an interview with a local trader who deals in Karma, the trader had this to say about the subject:

    And now we come to JUDGING AND PRIZES:
    As stated earlier, the prize pool will be between one and five gold (100-500 silver), divided equally among all contestants.
    Two "inspectors" (Nobody and Nuggro) will rate the estate between 1-5, and the average of their scores will be the "prize pool". Morarn may be asked to temporarily serve as a judge in order to settle a tie.
    Additionally, whichever of the three villages does the best job on their task earns an exclusive trader for 48 hours! Note for hermits, if your team (Brokyo by default) wins and you're nowhere near the victorious village, then you'll receive a trader at your hermitage offering the same deals at a modest markup to compensate for the trader's troubles.

    Expect the location to be revealed about a day before the event, and then you'll hear some final instructions from Mr. Goldberg himself two hours before the event starts (4 PM CST).

        Wurm is an archaic mess of a game and hosting it is a chore. Some people enjoy it, some get disillusioned or otherwise distanced. You should host the next one, anon. assuming we don't invade another normie pubgay server and literally burn it to the ground like we did on Royal Apple

                One story I remember is:

                >all of them are dirt walled to 100+ slope
                >find one base that forgot to lock his gates
                >two brave mujahideen fighters slaughter and steal what they could, bringing back great steeds
                >BLer locks his gates and fumes about it in global
                >another group is sent to poke said BLers base
                >finds a way in by glitching through the dirt wall
                >die in glorious jihad, taking many treasures and guards with us

                That led to the old BLers raiding us.

        In hopes of continuing the tradition, now that the 2nd dungeon is 99% complete(more info soon), I'm starting to compile all my notes so that future anons can add their names to that list of badmins. It's not as hard as you'd think, but there are a lot of quirks and the fixes aren't consolidated anywhere.

    We are proud to announce the grand opening of the 2nd dungeon this Sunday! Sunday! SUNDAY!

    Starting this Sunday at 5pm cst, we'll be opening the gates to the underground mountain city. Left buried beneath the mountains of Brotunheim, something has stirred this ancient city back to life. I say this with no reservations: This will be the most difficult pve content we have ever hosted. The time has come to face the evils deep in the mountain!

    HOWEVER

    Due to some brave, enterprising, and very sneaky adventurers past antics, we'll be doing this dungeon by appointment. To schedule your dungeon run, have one of your group submit a support ticket with a full list of names. Groups can be formed independent of village/alliance membership, so if you all are actually wild enough to all go as one group, we can work with that.Your group will need a MINIMUM of 6 players (and really, if you want to fully clear the dungeon, you will want more). Expect the dungeon to take at least 2 hours. If we get multiple appointments at the same time...you may have to ah... well, in the J.E.W we call it 'aggressive negotiations'. The loser will have to reschedule.

    As a reminder, the builders event is still scheduled for this Saturday at 6pm cst. Be ready to get your hands dirty making the biggest luxury deed money can buy!
