      >what is her canon height supposed to be anyway?
I don’t think it has ever been explicitly stated, all we know based on old manuals is that the Power Suit is supposed to be 6’3”. She’s definitely shorter outside the suit, but it’s kind of hard to tell how much of a height difference there truly is. The suit’s helmet and boots probably add a couple of inches, though the boots in her power suits from Samus Returns and Dread seemingly have a high heel which would potentially result in an even greater height difference. Then there’s her Zero Suit, which also have high heels of their own, meaning that Samus is probably even shorter without the Zero Suit on.

Ever since other M/Smash 3, I've been saying she's not 6+ ft even if it is stated. But people keep denying it. I don't care how official the official officials say, if she doesn't look like an Amazon, she isn't.

Not that I prefer the smol look, I'm indifferent

      Autism.

There has never been any actual canon height ever listed for Samus herself, only the power suit. Comparisons to her power suit in Dread, assuming the power suit itself is still 6'3, would put her around 5'9-5'10. Honestly though since the suit is less bulky in Dread I wouldn't be surprised if it's slightly shorter now too.

This, it's chozo tech. Ain't gotta explain shit.

          Anonymous

Since when the suit is "on" it's explained that Samus and the suit are basically one biological entity. I kind of imagine it almost like possession/using her consciousness, G-Gundam shit.
Of course, we do see her take her helmet off but I still think that doesn't really mean much. It could just be that only the rest of her body is kept is some space bird sciencemagic dimension. IIRC there's not really many depictions of her actually wearing the suit, only one I can think of is this one from some Super Metroid book/manual. It's a pretty convenient angle that ignores a lot of the obvious anatomical differences between a human body and the suit itself so I disregard it most of the time.
At the end of the day though I don't really care all too much. That's why I really think the "magical girl armor" stuff is a better explanation. Samus herself is Samus, power suit Samus is what she effectively transforms into.

              >completely disregards what I said about the helmet
              Okay.
And again, for Dread the models of Samus and the power suit themselves are at markedly different standing heights.

Metroid is the prime example of over explanation ruining the world building
The more detailed and realisitic they try to make everything the more people just start rolling there eyes

Yep. That's actually why I like how the suit looks more in Dread since it actually looks more feminine in build, so it's more believable if they wanted to pull the "she's actually wearing it" stuff. Not entirely, but at least more believable than Samus's shoulders somehow temporarily growing several inches wider for the earlier designs.

ZSS in Dread still has heels as pictured here too. She's not as tall as her suit, that's just a simple fact, why is this such a point of contention for some of you? Is it tall girl fetish autism or something?

Not even remotely true, and funny you post the non-canon westoid shit too.
Samus isn't standing flat on her feet in Dread, she has heels as I already showed in my last post. If you take her heels out in ZSS she'd be even shorter than her power suit.
The power suit having raised feet doesn't fricking matter moron. You don't take a suit of knight armor and then have the person wearing it stand on their tiptoes to compare their height like your dumbass is doing, get some spatial awareness and even one ounce of logic in that subhuman brain of yours.

Were comparing Samus to her suit to show how she’d fit inside. If when inside of her suit she’s standing on platforms then that’s where you would place her feet. Not on the floor with the suits feet because then of fricking course she’s not going to line up with the suit. Because you’re incorrectly aligning her

That's not what's happening at all. Can you even read the chain?
                >for Dread the models of Samus and the power suit themselves are at markedly different standing heights.
Why would I care about "her in the suit" when the discussion I've been in is comparing them separately? You and this other anon are beyond stupid or just actual ESLs, zero reading comprehension.

you have to be baiting at this point. You can't be this moronic. How do you explain this gap in the feet of the armor? Literally a heel. Yes, Samus wears double heels, one in the zero suit and another in the armor

                >muh gap in the feet of the armor
That seriously means nothing. What you're doing is similar to if I took the Eiffel Tower, stood it right next to the Evolution Tower, and then moved the Evolution Tower further upwards "because the Eiffel Tower has a gap at the bottom".
Again, I don't give a shit about Samus "in the suit", I always said if she is "outside of the suit", and you stand her right next to the power suit, she is shorter than it. And once again, this is even assuming the suit in Dread is 6'3, she herself isn't and has never had any height stated for her person.

What's even funnier is that artwork doesn't even try and make it believable she is actually wearing the suit, half of her upper arms aren't even in the upper arm parts of the power suit, and her forearm is where the elbow is. The anatomy is just completely fricked when mashed together.

I miss when Nintendo stuff didn't get instantly deemed irrelevant just because it came from NoA (This applies to entire Franchises too like Donkey Kong). I blame Splatoon for making the Nips heads get too big.

Deal with it then? Unless you have Sakamoto coming out explicitly stating that Samus is 6'3 herself it will always be headcanon. That Nintendo Power had a horrible localization of the Metroid 2 manual info anyway, which explicitly states the power suit itself is 6'3. Unfortunately for amazongays in-game models in Dread prove she is easily 5-6 inches shorter than the suit.
Amazongay tertiaries in this thread even admitting they don't care about canon over their headcanon, it's hilarious watching them recoil when other people point out their headcanon. Kind of like fatasses who call themselves fat and then get angry when other people call them fat.

So Nintendo wouldn't care if a work they commissioned and had to approve of wasn't up to their standards of accuracy? Sounds like you're the one coping here.

NTA but doesn't Nintendo actually retcon that anyway? The outfit Samus wears under the power armor in Super Metroid looks nothing like that official art. Hell, Samus isn't even barefoot in Super Metroid like that art would have people believe.

                Anonymous

I'd argue the outfit she's wearing and her height are two different things but that's still a fair point.

                Anonymous

That takes slightly more effort though. One would have to interpolate data by measuring pixel height between armor/2 piece Samus in Super Metroid to see if it lines up with the height of Samus and the power armor in the art, while adjusting the art since it's at a slight angle for perspective's sake.

                Yeah.
Take Secret of Mana for example, this is not what the cast looks like at all, just because it was in an "official" Nintendo publication doesn't mean shit.

It does though. Nintendo thought that was an acceptable quality at the time. Whether or not they still feel that was is different. But what you're arguing is that they could commission a drawing of Mario and Luigi and accept this when it comes to height.
Like how difficult would it have been for Nintendo to say "Actually she's X feet tall. Please change that."

                >But what you're arguing is that they could commission a drawing of Mario and Luigi and accept this when it comes to height.
                They could.

Nintendo barely interacted with the west until the last 10 years, moron.

Secret of Mana is not a Nintendo title.

It was released on Nintendo so for all intents and purpose its fine for this discussion, but it's amusing you point that out since it proves this other moron wrong conclusively.

Acceptable quality is synonymous with accuracy. This is something everyone but you could clue in on.
                >They could.
But they clearly wouldn't, unless something was added to make clear the dynamic shifted from the norm.

Still a super simple request to make. So your point is irrelevant.
But here's the ultimate question: Where are you getting your info from? You haven't posted any sacred Japanese sources clearly indicating Samus' height. I have at least one resource, you so far have argued with the evidence found within your imagination. No wonder you type like a baby.

. If the art is an accurate representation of Samus then all the key elements like eye height within the visor, actual height, arm length, etc. should all line up.

                >Acceptable quality is synonymous with accuracy.
It's not, you're conflating them since it's convenient for your homosexualry.
A piece of artwork can be high quality while not being reflective of what it was trying to capture at all.
                >But they clearly wouldn't
Rather common actually, Mario never looked like this in 2. It's inaccurate, but they still published it in Nintendo Power.
                >Still a super simple request to make. So your point is [cope]
Just because it would have been easy for them to do so still doesn't change the fact that Nintendo themselves did not care at all what NoA or NoE or any other outside branches were doing other than trying to make them as much money as possible a few decades ago. They were basically completely hands off until recently, which if anything just proves me even more right for calling Nintendo Power fanfiction.
                >But here's the ultimate question: Where are you getting your info from? You haven't posted any sacred Japanese sources clearly indicating Samus' height.
Samus herself does not have a canon height ever listed, only her suit in Metroid 2's manual.
                >I have at least one resource
The "resource" you have is American fanfiction with a terrible localization that misinterprets Metroid 2's information. Misinformation doesn't mean shit. Commissioning an artist doesn't mean shit.
Did a member of the team behind Metroid put forth any information that Samus is an amazon dommy mommy gf? No, so nothing else matters in this discussion. You're just flailing your arms around and shitting your diaper.

                >morons still think she fits in it like a suit of actual real life armor
                Autism.

There has never been any actual canon height ever listed for Samus herself, only the power suit. Comparisons to her power suit in Dread, assuming the power suit itself is still 6'3, would put her around 5'9-5'10. Honestly though since the suit is less bulky in Dread I wouldn't be surprised if it's slightly shorter now too.

it literally says the suit itself is 190cm/6'3.

The anon has half of a point. As an example, the 90s X-men animated series was made by Marvel commissioning animated studios all over Asia, from Japan to the Philippines, but at no point did any of that make it an anime.
Now with that said, the player's guide was commissioned by the North American branch of a Japanese company, so it's every bit Japanese as it is western.

I’m not saying it’s bizarre they added them because it’s unrealistic, I’m saying it’s bizarre they added them because of how angry a lot of people have been about the Zero Suit’s heels ever since they added them in Other M. I personally think it’s kind of based how they added them to the Power Suit as well despite the baggage associated with them.

Were comparing Samus to her suit to show how she’d fit inside. If when inside of her suit she’s standing on platforms then that’s where you would place her feet. Not on the floor with the suits feet because then of fricking course she’s not going to line up with the suit. Because you’re incorrectly aligning her

A suit isn't a "people", and no one but you was trying to just compare their height, because that would be stupid and pointless.
The comparison was showing that she fits better in one game's suit than another's.

                >A suit isn't a "people",
When you're comparing Samus's height and the suit's height it makes sense to measure them separately side by side like you would two people, moron.
                >and no one but you was trying to just compare their height, because that would be stupid and pointless.
Exactly, that's the entire topic I was engaging with. You morons kept trying to change the topic and I kept calling you moronic each step of the way because I never wanted to talk about that shit.
                >The comparison was showing that she fits better in one game's suit than another's.
It wasn't because I was the one that started the discussion, and the topic was always about how she was shorter than the suit. You dipshits are the ones who kept trying to make it about her fitting in the suit. Funnily enough over the course of this discussion I already pointed out the older artwork of her in the suit is an anatomical nightmare, and should be disregarded for that alone.

That wasn't ever my point though, you just kept sperging out about the
                >overlapping her with her suit

It's a few other morons such as yourself. Again, I never talked about her fitting in the suit, I only talked about her being shorter than the suit.

The main topic is that Samus doesn't usually fit inside the suit in Metroid games. Then one anon shows that Metroid Dread has Samus properly fitting inside her suit.
Yes, Samus is shorter than the suit but that's the point, she's shorter so that she can fit inside the suit. Samus inside the suit elevates her up a few inches so she can properly wield the suit and make her look more taller and more imposing.
If you was to wear power armor you would be elevated off the ground while wearing the suit too.

it's not that hard to grasp.

I remember Starcraft 2 had a fairly simple explanation as to why power armor gloves/feet don't match up with human proportions. Essentially the hands grab onto something that manipulates the gauntlets. Made a lot more sense than 40k's solution which was that humans were so genetically modified that they just became gorilla shaped.

The problem with Samus' suit would be that it's so thin that it doesn't quite make sense. In some cases shoulders are so far apart on suits that there is no way a person could fit in it.
Also when joints like kneecaps don't match up with the human inside, you know there's a lot of pain involved.

Of course the real reason is that the artists tried to draw something that "looked cool" first (Warhammer obviously failing where Metroid and SC succeeded) and was practical second. SC is the only franchise that gets it right. They're basically little mechs that dudes pilot around rather than suits that they wear.

        >Science Team is attempting to reverse-engineer Samus Aran's arsenal, based off of data acquired from her assaults on our forces. Progress is slow, but steady. Command would dearly enjoy turning Aran's weapons against her. We believe we can implement Beam weapon prototypes in three cycles. Aran's Power Suit technology remains a mystery, especially the curious Morph Ball function. All attempts at duplicating it have ended in disaster; four test subjects were horribly broken and twisted when they engaged our Morph Ball prototypes. Science Team wisely decided to move on afterward.

Early on Interplay (and later Bethesda) were talking about how the power armor worked. Evidently it would realistically take a lot of time to get into (evident by the armor stations in the Prydwenn with chains and ladders and shit in Fo4) and they had the idea that the power armor was impossible to get out of without help, meaning someone to open the back hatch. That wound make it much more scary and claustrophobic to use.

Bad game design for something meant to be used by the player of course but imagine the implications of getting wounded in the suit and abandoned by your squad, or your suit is damaged and shuts down. You're stuck wasting away in a metal coffin you can't escape from by your own means. That makes power armor a lot more interesting and scary.

It very much gels with the themes of Fallout in having technological advancement paired with brutal death. It would have been pretty fricking rad to see some power armor with someone's skeleton still in it, wasted away years later after leaving its victim trapped until death.

It's good on its own merits. Great atmosphere and the game really makes you feel like the situation is progressively getting more hopeless. I agree, the forced exposition dumps are annoying, but overall those are a minor portion of the overall playtime once you make it out of the beginning portion of the game.

It's not really scary but there's a sense of "what the frick did I just witness?" that permeates the whole game that I love. How Metroid is supposed to be a grounded science fiction universe yet you have to go kill something called "The Nightmare" that looks like a child's doll that came to life.

        Anonymous

Metroid just doesn't feel like it was intended for such a long lifespan in terms of story. It's at the same time underdeveloped and overdeveloped.

No, she can just use her ship to teleport it onto or off of her body, presumably from some sort of storage container. You can tell that it's just a normal physical object because when the SA-X knocked her out, she was still stuck in the suit, and the GFEDs actually physically modified it while she was unconscious.

            >Doesn’t Other M’s opening cutscene start with her waking up after being knocked unconscious by Mother Brain?
No, she wakes up in zero suit. Also other times throughout the game the suit dematerializes if she loses consciousness or even emotional composure. Which is pretty fricking horrifying considering it's a SPACE SUIT.

The suit only comes off willingly. If samus is knocked out it stays on as a safety feature. Happens in prime 3 and dread.

  54. 11 months ago

Samus "entering" the suit biologically fuses her to it, so it probably warps her body to "fit" and undoes it when she "exits" it.
It was made by a race that can make biomechanical suits of armor, bioweapons that can drain "life energy" whatever the frick that means, store things in hyperspace or whatever, and more I'm forgetting. Getting a person to fit in a suit is a trivial matter.

        Anonymous

in the opening cutscene they mention having to surgically remove portions of the suit because it's so linked to samus, I assume that's just the standard way the suit works and was only a problem because she was unconscious.

        Anonymous

        >It then came to light that the organic components of my Power Suit had become so integrated with my system that it could not be removed while I was unconscious.
Why would being conscious matter if it was the X's fault they were integrated? This line only makes sense if biological integration of the suit was normal but unexpected to the GFed's surgeons and inconvenient for treating Samus directly, and that her being conscious would allow her to biologically separate from the suit for treatment.

Why does Metroid have the most pants on head moronic walljump mechanics in any game?

Samus suit has always been rule of cool. For example Samus suit in Prime is proportionally nonsense for any human being to fit in.

Dread is the only time where she actually somewhat fits into the suit (hence why it's so lean) but even then it's not perfect.

Originally her goofy sprite was just the same size, so you don't even really need to invoke rule of cool.
Single sources where you have enough to do this kind of comparison are more the exception than the rule. And miscellaneous magazine art which hardly count.
It's only really shit like trying to overlay assets that weren't seen together from Prime and assuming the base scaling is meant to be the same (which is practically never true of cutscene assets anyway, see any camera clip video from any game ever) which leads to this bait.

(The moron who tried to compare them by putting both model's feet on the floor notwithstanding, that's a special kind of stupid I haven't seen in these threads before.)

lmao have a nice day dipshit, especially with this
        >It's only really shit like trying to overlay assets that weren't seen togethe
You literally see the ZSS model during the death cutscenes in Dread fractions of a second after seeing her power suit.
And again, measuring by putting their feet on the floor makes the most sense. If there was a person as tall as Samus's power suit and you wanted to compare how tall they were to Samus herself, you would not levitate Samus above the ground "for fairness" or whatever autistic shit you keep acting like makes sense.
Jesus, for all the "meltdown" projection from the few morons here I still can't believe you all are still THIS mad at me for pointing out literally elementary level math and spatial reasoning. Seriously, legitimately subhuman logic for thinking picrel makes any sense lol

True, but what if you wanted to see how well Samus would fit inside of that person (which is what is actually being compared when overlapping her with her suit)?

            Anonymous

What you'd actually do in this case if you weren't moronic is put the root offset of the rig from each model on the origin, since they probably share a rig.

Not being moronic isn't relevant here though so don't worry about it.

That wasn't ever my point though, you just kept sperging out about the
            >overlapping her with her suit
Because of my pictures I posted here

            Yes.
Seems that guy scaled them up.

            and here

You're either scaling it up or not positioning their feet at the same height. Dishonest either way.
This is what anyone would see if they just load the models straight up.

, which were only posted to prove she is not as tall as the suit.
            I mean, frick's sake, I literally said
            >"for Dread the models of Samus and the power suit themselves are at markedly different standing heights."
Why the frick do you take that to mean I'm talking about her fitting in the suit? Why drag me into some other dipshit's post that's unrelated?

            >You literally see the ZSS model during the death cutscenes in Dread
Oh, the one game where the proportions clearly and objectively fit? Yeah, I probably wasn't referring to that one.

Nobody's mad but you dude, the rest of us understand why it's dumb to put her heels on the floor. Like intuitively. This is normal spatial reasoning and would normally be taken for granted.
Notice how not one single person has come close to agreeing with you in the embarrassingly long time you've been at this.

            >Oh, the one game where the proportions clearly and objectively fit?
Oh, you mean the way I pointed out how ZSS's chin in that picture sticks out from the bottom of her helmet's chin? Yeah, no, they don't "objectively fit" unless you are blind, which I'm beginning to believe you are.
            >the rest of us understand why it's dumb to put her heels on the floor
It's a few other morons such as yourself. Again, I never talked about her fitting in the suit, I only talked about her being shorter than the suit.
Even for you homosexuals talking about "fitting in the suit" I already disproved that even in Dread's power suit parts of her body do not match it anatomically.
But uh, yeah, picrel her face would totally fit in that helmet, just gotta cut off her chin lmao

The important thing about logical fallacies, you dipshit zoomoid, is that they only apply to the basis of arguments. It's been explained to you extensively why you're wrong. After which it's not sophistry to point out that you've failed to convince anybody, and have zero support to indicate that you're anything but moronic.

Everybody else clearly already understands that you're wrong, so this should be an indicator only you can benefit from taking note of.

                Incorrect.
Both on the height point and "fits in the suit" point I am uncontested, I already showed she's shorter than the power suit and also that she literally does not fit in the suit even if you "overlay the models """""properly"""""", which you homosexuals kept crying about. It's also funny how you homosexuals brought up the "well the model scaling isn't necessarily accurate in games". So what then, does that mean ZSS's model in Dread is actually taller than the pics I posted? That would completely invalidate your "she fits in the suit" point then, because she already does not. Her head is bigger than the helmet, so if it gets even bigger if you scale up then you're just going to look like even more of a jackass when her head engulfs the helmet lmao.
I get it though, you want to sweep those things under the rug since it's embarrassing to admit you've been wrong multiple times.

      "For" is zero though.
I think you'd have to look pretty hard to find a genuine downsie that doesn't understand shoes take up space, even if they couldn't describe that concept well.
Even a shaved chimp would have a solid grasp on this. IIRC that kind of reasoning even comes before object permanence in mental development

      No, it's definitely been explained.

You might be too dense to accept it, or more likely realised you were wrong long ago and are trying to somehow pathetically salvage your ego by soiling yourself further, but these events objectively happened.

(Protip you look silly repeatedly spelling out the latin, only dumb teenagers think that impresses anyone. This is genuine advice because if you're going to zoom zoom this hard it'd be less painful if you hid it.)
