>unlock Xbox hardware for windows
This is going to be the other way.
Xbox OS will eventually come bundled with third party handhelds, laptops, pre-builds instead of Windows and the reasoning for this is that Xbox division brings in more money than Windows division.
This "event" is just an announcement to signal this happening to the manufacturers and all the other interested parties.
The end game is that you can play your Xbox games everywhere. Xbox digital library is considered to be the "weakest" because you can only play most of your games on Xbox and Windows cross-purchase is very unpopular among end-users.
By expanding Xbox to many different devices and fundamentally positioning it to replace Windows for gaming Microsoft wants to bring back the revenue lost by Steam, prevent the "Windows handheld" market from emerging independently, and win over with Sony by making their offering feel like it's of a lesser value.
T. I am involved.
Xbox is going to be a separate platform from Windows, it won't be able to run Windows games but the plan is to open it for third-party stores and encourage the developers to focus for developing for Xbox instead of Windows (even if they would be selling through Steam if Valve ever bothered).
Almost every significant multiplatform game is released on Xbox anyway, it's just there's no point of purchasing Xbox for multiplats alone.

it's still a nice platform to play on, console convenience, play anywhere, gamepass, they don't delete your cloud saves, you can play the same savegames on pc and even export them if you decide to buy the steam version of a game.

I mean yeah, I know. It's just that there's very little incentive to spend money on Xbox if you already have a PC or PS5. Xbox is great if it's your only console.
that's an interesting idea. microsoft invested a lot into anti-piracy measures and by all accounts they're the leader at it.
a locked down xbox distro you can run on any pc hardware could be enticing for third party publishers.
>Xbox and Windows cross-purchase is very unpopular among end-users
It's the thing that I would adore if Microsoft wasn't completely FRICKING incompetent with it.
The xbox store on windows is horribly designed trash with far fewer features than steam. Like....how? You own fricking windows! The quality of the launcher isn't just a concern in and of itself, it's a concern because I'm 32, and have seen several windows games launchers come and go. So my investment is one "we're rebranding 🙂 " away from being worthless.
And even if it was any good as a launcher, only a measly portion of games offer it. Elden ring? Yakuza 0? DMC5? RE8? doom eternal? All games I've bought the last few years. Available on Xbox and pc day 1, none of them cross buy. I've heard that it's because you have to agree to crossbuy and being on gamepass as a package deal, which is moronic, and doesn't explain doom eternal. I also heard it's because to be crossbuy saves need to work between versions, which is a moronic restriction that shoots themselves in the foot. On top of all that it requires you to buy digital. It would be cool if they had a vudu-esque code in xbox game cases. It would probably require disc verification so you don't sell the code but that would still be something.
It's like backwards compatibility. They do it sparcely and/or briefly to get credit for it then they stop bothering. I can crossbuy gears of War 5 (as if lol) and play fusion frenzy, but not hitman 3 and gunvalkyrie.
So instead I'll double dip on steam and if I want a physical copy I'll go with a damn playstation. At least they haven't planned to sunset disc drives (yet) and Asian video game releases don't skip them like they do xbox.
The trouble with the Microsoft Store for a long time was that every application on it needed to be UWP, which was their new Win32 replacement API.
The rules were relaxed a bit eventually when it became clear to MS that nobody ever gave a single shit about UWP. But devs still need to do special versions of their games for Microsoft Store, and unfortunately everything on the Xbox App and Game Pass uses Microsoft Store in the background.
It's simply not worth the effort for many devs to learn how to do all this shit and then support it.
>crossbuy saves need to work between versions, which is a moronic restriction that shoots themselves in the foot
I think you are mistaking it with play anywhere. There are plenty of crossbuy games where saves are not compatible. In some cases not even the achievement list.
Windows isn't a good value for Microsoft, makes very little money and trust me the execs have been seething for years seeing how well Apple is doing with their OS. They aren't investing much money into it because the ROI on Windows development is shit.
>The xbox store on windows is horribly designed trash with far fewer features than steam. Like....how? You own fricking windows!
This is actually the reason why it doesn't have more features. They put too many features in and then the FTC tries to force them to spin off. They must intentionally make gimped shit or the government comes in and accuses them of stamping out competition. Just like they almost did in 2001
wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft_Corp.
Can confirm. In true MS fashion they kill themselves at the finish line. A few years of consistent 4-5 releases from all their studios could have had an effect. They rather kill it now. Just when Sony had serious issues releasing even one game a year.
>then proceeds to call it quit and shuts down the video game industry as a whole and then 5 minutes later the UN, lead by the Anti-Christ declares Video Games banned on penalty of getting raided by Glowies and publicly executed live on Youtube
>Phil Spencer is in a dimly lit Xbox green room >”We hear over at Xbox have heard you, that is why we have decided to buy Sony’s entire gaming division and bring more Xbox games over to PlayStation. >Does a 360 and walks away
99% of the time it's intentional to bait people, and then some of the replies are also bait, so the people calling the repliers newbies are baited, unless those replies are also baiting.
If he didn't do any rotation and just walked away, you wouldn't bat an eye, but he does a rotation to end up at the same directionality he started at and then walks away, it stops making sense? "Walk away" includes turning away when applicable.
they're going to confirm hi fi rush and sea of thieves as multiplats
they'll say that going forward they will examine xgs games on a case by case basis for multiplatform release. also confirm activision published games will remain multiplat
and they'll confirm an exiting of the traditional console market after the series consoles (the next device will be more of a steam machine) and a closure of physical copy availability for current and future titles. digital only.
We already know both xbox 720 and ps6 will be digital only. A disc drive for old games will be available separately. Nintendo will keep physical as it works well with tiny carts for their handheld. For now.
They're not abandoning it. You can get your bluray player as an extra. Sony aren't dumb, the future is digital. They've even done this already work ps slim LOL
Don't be fooled by the "Only 20% of all vidya sales are physical now" headlines. What those stats don't tell you is that it's highly regional.
Sony has near-monopoly marketshare in a lot of regions around the world in the console space due to Microsoft and Nintendo both refusing to expand their markets, and a lot of those smaller regions end up relying on physical imports due to either digital exchange rates being fricked or lack of either reliable internet service or not being able to simply access the digital stores in those regions.
Xbox is available in 17 of the 27 EU countries, you can't even import an Xbox to the remaining 10 due to digital region locking. Nintendo has a weird franchising model where they've outsourced exporting the console around the world.
Sony is the only company that's willing and capable of controlling their global supply chain due to decades of experience being a consumer electronics giant, and that strategy is what got them to where they're today.
I mean, what are people expecting them to do? They need to sell the series S/X for another 4 years. Cant do that if they know their digital games will be worthless.
That's neat but is it enough to sell a console? Hell, they might even add an official Xbox/360 emulator to PC if they're going to launch shit on PS5/Switch 2.
Of course it is not enough when the current "probably every Zenimax/Activision game that isn't GAAS is exclusive" wasn't enough. I'm baffled why industry experts keep saying Xbox will be fine and Xbots will profit from this expansion. It makes the console worthless. If Game Pass didn't sell consoles since 2018(!) why do they think the proposition of "full price on PS but only $X (sub) on Xbox" will result in anything but people buying the few good games on PS and not even thinking twice about Xbox. You simply don't save that much on a single title to buy a whole new platform for it. Out of the 2024 titles only really Indiana Jones and Hellblade has mainstream appeal. Lets assume they are actually good. Hellblade will be $50, Indiana is $70 (I assume). You could play both for what, $15 (let us skip the part where they may announce they won"t do day 1 releases from now on)? So you will save $115 but you will need to buy a $300-$500 console for it.
Not for long!
With the all new adorably digital Xbox Series X, you'll be able to miss out on backwards compatible games like never before.
Thanks to the complete lack of a disc drive, you'll be enjoying digital-only games. And due to licensing reasons the current catalogue of backwards compatible games on Xbox One and Series consoles is getting smaller each month as more and more titles are delisted.
Gamepass has been the only reason anyone has bought an xbox. The problem is gamepass loses them money so they've really got no path forward. Gamepass was a gamble by them that they could lure in a huge market by giving away ridiculous deals, but it didn't work. The xbox brand is so shitty people would rather buy another console than save hundreds on games.
Gamepass makes them money because just launching on Gamepass saves them a ton on advertising which can be as much as half the budget of a game.
The flip side is if the games blow then they get no word of mouth, and if they keep having shit month after shit month sub numbers can drop.
Gamepass absolutely does not make them money. Most users spend almost nothing on it and they have to spend vast sums on licensing fees. It's completely unsustainable which is why they're now desperately looking to get their own games off it and onto other consoles where people will actually spend 70 dollars.
Gamepass has 25 to 30 million active subscribers (30 million based on a linkedin microsoft exec leak that they removed when it was noticed in october last year), and lets assume that while in first world countries gamepass ultimate costs $15 or more and standard gamepass costs $10, that on average between those two and all the third worlders paying far less, they're making about $8-$9 per sub.
That's around 200 to 250 million a month in cash money. And thats a ton of money considering the total dogshit they're releasing (and that they're not paying to advertise at all since I don't see microsoft ads anywhere now)

GP makes them money and works HOWEVER the issue is they can't expand it further because they don't have the user base for it. And they did an absolutely shitty job marketing it by expecting word of mouth will be enough. Sure, for the "core" audience. I live in EU and most normalgays buy Playstations because Sony advertises 24/7, everywhere. My brother in law is a casual, he bought a PS5 and he subscribed to PS+ Premium right away. He had no idea GP does day1 games and all MS games are in it. He had no fricking idea. That could have pushed him to the Xbox side.
Yeah, xbox is fricking doing awful outside of north america. It's how its lasted so long.
Also 2021 numbers for gamepass revenue was 2.1 billion so my educated guess was probably pretty accurate, kek
>Yeah, xbox is fricking doing awful outside of north america.
Because it's barely present outside of USA + MX + UK markets. In more than half of Europe you can't even officially purchase an Xbox
I have no idea why Xbox never tried to take Eastern Europe where money is an issue on a daily basis. I live in Hungary and I was there when the 360 officially came in a few years after the global launch. It was insane, they put together a local marketing and support team that ran circles around the local Sony/Nintendo division. When the XBO blew up they let these people go along with pretty much all the advertising.
> I live in EU and most normalgays buy Playstations because Sony advertises 24/7, everywhere
seeing all the posters for Black person-man is just making me hate sony more
Here's a path forward. Put cod on it. There are tons of people who only buy cod. All those people on both consoles have to pay for an online sub anyway, a few dollars more and you get access to the game too. There xbox saved and it was easy.
Putting CoD on it basically guarantees that CoD only plays will be upsold on it.
CoD is $70 once per year, gamepass is $120 to $175 a year (depending on base or ultimate), and they'll get $50 to $105 more out of them than they would otherwise while they play other stuff
actually my bad, technically gamepass is only a $50 upsell from xbox live, or even just a $1 upcharge if they pay per month (xbox gold is $10, gamepass console is $11)
>gamepass console is $11
This doesn't include access to online. Just the games. Core (previously gold) is the opposite. Most cod players don't play the single player.
If you think that Gamepass is making them money you are on crack, they might get away with first party stuff but do you think that the 3rd party stuff (AKA the stuff that is actually worth playing) comes from free?
I've got one because Sony disappointed me a generation before (lots of broken gamepads for no reason, overheating loud piece of shit that was PS4 Pro, inconvenient ways to buy games online and almost no interesting exclusivesaside from the obvious bunch of Bloodborn and Gravity Rush 2) and the current one doesn't have anything I'd enjoy (Ratchet, maybe, but it's literally the same game as the PS3 one and is kinda soulless in terms of the writing). With Series console I have all the games I've played on PS before, a great bunch of old backward compatible titles I've had in my backlog for years or enjoyed during the PS2 era and get better deal with Gamepass than crappy PS Plus shit Sony offered before. Don't care of MS exclusives the same way I don't care about Sony ones.
>Xbox - Plays Microsoft Games and thats it
I bought an Xbone in VCR in 2020 for 40 dollars + controller, because I wanted to play Rare Replay and the best version of RDR.
>at better framerates and resolution, with mod support
These are things 99.99% of people don't give the slightest shit about, under 20 demographics is small and has no money, and the demographics with actual money (30+) is too busy taking care of children and moving their lawn to care whether they can see individual pixels on their 85" TV from across the room.
I have a theory that PC ports being criminally bad is intentional so that people wouldn't want to pirate them and instead purchase them on consoles "the way they're meant to be played".
>We here at Xbox are proud of the games we've made, and we want everyone to enjoy them. >That's why we're announcing today that all upcoming Xbox Studios games are going to be available on more platforms than ever before, starting with the release of Hi-fi Rush today! >We're also working with multiple partner companies to expand Game Pass far beyond its current reach, stay tuned for more updates on that. >Xbox Series will still remain a great place to play your games from both Xbox Studios, and third party developers. And we look forward to letting many more players enjoy and join the Xbox ecosystem today.
Then Microsoft will stop publishing any specific numbers about Xbox other than total amount of players across everything with so much as an Xbox logo on it. PS5 players, Xbox players, xCloud players will all be lumped together.
Final Xbox series unit sales will be lower than the Kinect, and the adorably all digital Series X will never launch.
EA will be the first major third party to drop support starting with their 2026 lineup including NHL27 and Need for Speed, however Madden and FIFA will still come to Xbox till end of generation.
>EA will be the first major third party to drop support
You're spot on, but I think the big publishers dropping will happen gradually over time, remember that Activision told Xbox to give them a 80/20 split or they would stop putting CoD on Xbox? After this week Xbox will become even less relevant and I expect every major publisher to be asking for the same split soon, indie devs will just focus on PS5/SW/PC, eventually even the 80/20 won't be enough to keep the big publisher because of the install base, it's going to be a slow and pathetic death for the Xbox console.
>remember that Activision told Xbox to give them a 80/20 split or they would stop putting CoD on Xbox
Lol They did that to Sony too. They played both of them like a fiddle.
>EA will be the first major third party to drop support
i mean it's included for gamepass ultimate, they would probably be the last ones due to legal obligations. Maybe ubisoft will be the first
>Then Microsoft will stop publishing any specific numbers about Xbox other than total amount of players across everything with so much as an Xbox logo on it.
Don't they already do that?
Conspiracy take: >Microsoft and Phil knew this was going to happen years ago >every single other product Microsoft has already or is in the process of being turned into a subscription service >MS won't compete with Steam directly with Game Pass, they'll literally just turn the next version of Windows into a paid subscription and bundle shit like Game Pass and MS Word with it
The console market is in decline. Nintendo will be the last hold out but they'll eventually run into trouble competing with Steam Deck and 3rd party Decks that will be cheaper and more powerful then the Switch 2.
Nintendo will eventually go 3rd party too. They where saved by their handheld division during the Wii U generation. They combined their console and handheld into one, they can't go back to two systems again and smart phones and Steam Decks will eventually eat into their mobile market. It won't be next generation but Nintendo is out of gimmicks after the Switch 2, they're only option is to keep doing more Switch consoles and they can't win that battle long term.
>Nintendo will be the last hold out but they'll eventually run into trouble competing with Steam Deck
Is the competition with Steam Deck in the room with us right now?
we all know nintendo will keep doing it's think but if sony becomes the only option available in the market they will absolutely israelite out to the extreme

spending nothing to have a 70% share of the sales in a huge market is better than spending literal hubdreds of billions to have a 100% share of a nonexistant market
Microsoft admitted recently that they were kinda spooked by the success of the Steam Deck and its future iteration even if I have no idea why, doesn't seem like it sold that much.
Probably about as spooked as they were for thinking that a 2nd rate vidya couldn't win GOTY 2024. Gonna be a rough 2024 for them if Palworld and Avowed ends up going breasts up.
Palworld is already declining hard in just under a month and will continue to decline in the coming months. I doubt Avowed will be good considering all the controversies.
>Palworld is already declining hard
Probably because it's a game that's single campaign focused with an end goal. As well as it being in Early Access. I still don't get the whole screaming about the decline when it's not a live service game & the multiplayer is just the single player campaign being fast forwarded with help.
I think they are afraid Valve found a way to make PC consoles with preinstalled Steam OS. Deck sales are obviously nothing to write about right now but it could grow into something that will controls the HW business.
>I think they are afraid Valve found a way to make PC consoles with preinstalled Steam OS. Deck sales are obviously nothing to write about right now but it could grow into something that will controls the HW business.
Maybe, but after the failures of the Steam Machines I doubt Valve is gonna bet on that horse again.
PC gamers don't buy prebuilt, they assemble their own PC, while normies go for the console route: something like a Steam Machine 2 would be a tough sell for them.
Steam machines were just prebuilts. Bad ones too. A proper console (ie screen less steam deck, probably better hardware.) With their new steam os would be fine.

>Steam machines were just prebuilts. Bad ones too.
Yeah, they sold overpriced components, but I blame Alienware, Zotac and so on, they've always been greedy scum (a friend at the time bought an extremely overpriced Alienware prebuilt for almost half more the actual value). >A proper console (ie screen less steam deck, probably better hardware.) With their new steam os would be fine.
If it's built in-house there's a good chance itmight be good.
Still, PC gamers tend to build their own PCs themselves, so I'm still uncertain on this.

A steam machine would be a proper console companion, not a pc.
Using a pc in your living room is fricking annoying and gay. Even with that overlay they introduced a while back that makes it consoleesque.
Instead of buying a playstation or xbox for that experience, I can now use a Steam Deck on a dock. But what if that steam deck was as powerful as a ps or xbox? Boom. Instead of having a split library I give all my money to valve, and no longer have to pat for ps plus or xbl
going third party would be a necessity only if they were going out of business. for a company there's no reason to compromise console sales, that they make money on, unless you're in dire need of fast cash
Nintendo is the only company that actually makes a net profit on their consoles instead of using them as a loss leader. Ever since after the Gamecube they've opted to never directly compete with the other consoles and instead do their own thing.
The Switch when it launched was a very novel concept that nobody else had done and had worked successfully. But it came at the cost of them combining their regular console and mobile divisions together, they can't undo that. The concept of the Switch is no longer new and other companies are all racing each other to cash in on it. Nintendo will again find itself directly competing with other companies in the handheld console space who are a lot better at doing hardware then they are.
Unless they can move on from the Switch gimmick after the next generation, which they really can't since being a handheld is required after they scrapped their home console division, they will get decimated if they keep following the traditional generation cycle of 6+ years when other companies will do quicker hardware refreshes.
>never directly compete with the other consoles and instead do their own thing.
nah there's a difference between not competing and not wanting to lose money. they opted for being investing into their own games to not depend on other publishers/devs since the other companies won't want the problem to port their games to their weaker hardware. I'd say it worked pretty well seeing the software sales of the switch >The Switch when it launched was a very novel concept that nobody else had done and had worked successfully

>UMPCs were a thing before the switch anon
You can't compare UMPCs to the Switch, different markets and audiences. That's like me saying UMPCs are not original when PDAs did it before them. The new mobile consoles and Steam Deck-likes will all be competing for the same market they will all have the same 3rd part games. Will Nintendo exclusives alone be enough to justify themselves to normal people to buy the exact same device twice? Who knows.

going by the switch's hardware and software sales? absolutely. that's basically all nintendo is doing these days, investing into themselves and their games to not depend on thrid parties
Sony tried to out-hardware Nintendo in the handheld space and got BTFO'd so hard they left the industry. People who play games want more than muh grafx and muh turd party.
>OMG we didn't meet 1 year old "market goals" >le sutya nutella is gonna kill xbox!
They didn't spend BILLIONS of dollars for nothing. Snoys are coping extra hard here. They own CALL OF DUTY. They own console gaming and almost PC gaming by that single fact.
If Xbox gives you Sea of Thieves or Hi Fi rush they are just trolling. The merger went through. Its like Snoys are sensing this is the last opportunity to doompost and cope about xbox since
They'd still make a shit ton of money by being a 3rd-party publisher and owning ABK games. It's just a question of if that makes them more money than also investing resources and costs in their third-place hardware business.
Not trying to start a flamewar or anything, but the PS5 exclusives so far have been completely uninteresting, and doesn’t warrant a purchase of the system “just because”.
I bought an Xbox for Gamepass and have been playing almost every day since I got it back in July.
Yeah but you are the minority. Sane Xgays see the trajectory of the sales. It doesn't matter that Xbox has somewhat comparable but cheaper offerings than the PS5 when the brand is so undesirable they can't sell consoles even in poor countries despite they have an SKU half off all the time.
>minority
I suppose. I really couldn’t care less about the longevity for the system as long as I find fun games to play for a couple years. I kind of doubt they’re just gonna straight up quit, and if they do at least I jumped onto the last generation of Xboxes and had a fun ride while it lasted.
Growing up I switched system every generation (not on purpose it’s just what happened) and went PS2, 360, PS4 and so on.
I think they saw the backlash and will only confirm Hifi Rush and Sea of Thieves going multiplat for now. Starfield and others will be ported at a later time so they can salvage what they can of the brand.
They already ruined Sea of Thieves with the gimped PvE servers so it’s fine. Would be funny to see it obliterate that Ubisoft pirate game on PS5 though.
https://www.trueachievements.com/poll/56272/poll-are-you-concerned-about-the-future-of-xbox Achievements community is so unreal They are the ones who would suffer the most if xbox leaves the market, so why even sugarcoat it? Is this the denial stage?
If you actually read the comments it is a bit of everything. There are the people who will deny until the last moment, but there are also the supposedly well adjusted adults who don't care. Almost everyone who was unsatisfied with how MS is doing things already has other platforms to play on. That is why you hear shit takes like there is no isse from idorts who rotate their systems and never actually thought about what would they do if they only had the Xbox library to play with. Worst case they rotate one less system. Also since Xbox has the least grip on users most would literally not even flinch if it dies while they would seethe endlessly for Sony or Nintendo as they are emotionally involved with them.
This entire weak was also a huge shock for many and a lot of people who were stuck in the Xbox only mentality started looking for other options. I think Xbox lost a huge amount of hardcore fans who had enough about the bad news every other week. I'm an "xbox only" player since the OG came out and while I won't sell my Series X like some people did already but I had enough. This will be my last Xbox related hardware, I had enough of this shit. I don't care I will lose thousands of games and almost a million Gamerscore. I don't care I spent my last 20 years on Xbox. I'm tired.
Not him but in a similar boat (700k gamerscore, been playing since original xbox exclusively with the exception of PC for exclusives (like mmos, though I did play ff11 on 360). I thought game pass was a GREAT idea. But, they quickly revealed their hand in trying to make it a cloud streaming service, until there was pushback.
They kept losing games throughout covid, and only putting on titles everyone already had from the big purchases they made. It didn't do much for me, or any of my friends, but I think more casual players would probably love it. Their biggest mistake was all the $1 for 3 months deals they ran to pump up their numbers. I, and most people I know just won't bother paying for game pass ultimate due to it. Why pay $45 for what was $1 not even a year ago? I'm not fricking stupid.
Well, not THAT stupid.
Thanks for the input.
One thing for me was that PS5 was simply to pricey for what it was (I’m not poor but I couldn’t justify it) so I bought a series S this past summer by selling two rare Pokémon games for 150 bucks each, so I suppose it’s a bit different since I dont really have any sort of sunk cost into it at all, and through that lens Gamepass has kinda felt like a miracle since it’s essentially the only thing I’ve spent actual money on for the system, and I haven’t even spend a third of what the console cost through my pokeyman selling.
It was never about sunk cost for me, I just enjoyed the ecosystem more. Being able to play my 360 games on xbone was awesome, although admittedly I bought neither xbone nor ps4 at launch I waited a good year before I bought fully expecting a bunch of bullshit. Series X I bought because I was expecting the PS5 to suffer being a bad system, or have lots of flaws. But, it doesn't, really. It's a pretty fine system, and the series X has done nothing but hurt gaming for this gen due to the series S, it really kinda blows.
Game pass though, is great, that's easily seen by the fact everyone copied it (usually to better effect), psn has that "deluxe" tier that gives you a pretty sizable catalog of older ps games, ubisoft has that connect ,ea has that pro shit.

Ofc, I just mentioned sunk cost on my end since I’m a pretty new adopter into the ecosystem, aside from retaining a few xbox 360 games I bought digitally thirteen years ago.

nta, but I feel like the Series S's existence is a contributing factor to why we still are getting PS4 ports. If they have to make a cutback version of the game anyways for Series S, might as well add a PS4 version to that.

It is in fact a good brake check for shitty optimization and gamers all benefit from it.

I don't think bringing up a poorly optimized exclusive is a counterpoint. The issue is when devs need to scale back their vision to make a game workable on the series S.
Anonymous
You could give a PS5Pro as a baseline to devs and they would still b***h about it. Where is a game like the matrix demo? It runs fine on the series s. Loading times improved for gaming and that is it. Everything else is the same, there aren't any big improvements other than RT everything which most potato PCs can't run anyway.

Series S is still more powerful than the predominant PC setup according to Steam HW survey. Scapegoating poor series S is a moron talk.

so then why games run like crap on series x and ps5 if their vision is scaled back? Your point doesn't make sense
4 months ago
Anonymous
If they run like crap, they are either poorly optimized or the vision overshot what the console allows. We are talking about cases where a dev wants to do something in their game that a Series X can handle, but have to scrap it or cut it back because they need to get the game running on the Series S.

Not him, but what about Baldur's Gate 3 and the splitscreen feature? In that case, they just ignored the Series S and did it anyways, but if they had accounted for Series S, the feature would have been cut.

On Series S it just doesn't have split screen, that's just one game though and not a big deal.

right Baldurs gate 3. The splitscreen that barely holds 30 fps with drops on ps5. The devs that break their game with every update. The devs that somehow made it so customers would lose their saves on pc, ps5, xbox, no exception. Are you really gonna believe them at their word? Surely it's series s fault! Not larian's!

If you played baldurs gate 3 splitscreen you would now that blocking it off is a good thing. If any journo had of tried to play that on ps5 in splitscreen it would have been rated a 2/10 so fricking buggy game that never works and runs terribly. It isn't actually ready for anybody.

I love Game Pass and I truly believe it works/would have worked if the leadership would have done the bare minimum like advertising and good games. Their shittiest idea was saying they don't need HW sales when console users are the backbone of the service. What really made me like Game Pass is it introduced me to countless games I wouldn't have played otherwise. I'm the kind of guy who plays everything except sims and sports games and it opened up a whole new world for me. I don't know who decides what to put in it but the majority of releases were up in my alley, especially the endless stream of JRPGs I missed out on. GP is full of (Switch) indie gems too. I bought a bunch of games from the same devs on the trail of GP releases. Our group of oldgays talked about many times how it looks like Xbox gaming is better than ever even when the sales are grim. We get most of the releases, like Persona or Yakuza, Sony games are drying up and their third party exclusives as well. Only FF7R and Genshin (and some anime panty games) hurt us really. This is far from the XBO era where majority of the devs were skipping the console. Let it be GP money or trust, MS built something up. This is what people fear the most now, this announcement could shatter third party support. Why would they try if even the platform holder doesn't try?
I don't want to switch platforms this gen, but MS could kill support way before it ends.
Seeing through the current gen, possibly launching an xbox series Z or whatever "pro" model, but exiting the console race with gen 10.
Not that they were actually a competitor in 8 or 9.
Xbox Portable Console.
Can play all Game Pass games.
Twice the size of the Steamdeck

they can only offer a microsoft-only version of gamepass on other platforms and they'd have to port their entire catalog to make it worthwhile.
how much would people on ps or switch be willing to pay for that?
are we seriously never going to know when the business update is supposed to happen
there's people unironically running to gamestop to sell their xboxes
how long are they going to make us wait?
Well, the gamestop bank run to exchange their xbox for money is gonna get way worse after the announcement, so still better to have done so now than to wait longer.
>Series S sells lower than switch, series x in 200~ range
Anon, again – Xbox is virtually non-existent outside of USA and UK and maybe Mexico. It has very barebones support outside of these countries if any at all, often it's impossible to even purchase it through official means. Switch is everywhere. Playstation is everywhere. Xbox is not a global brand. It's doing fine.

Why don't you take a look at what the EU is forcing apple to do with iOS right now. They are going to be forced to spread their cheeks and not just allow gamepass, but an entire third party xbox store they can't skim off the top from.
Nintendo unlike Microsoft isn't a bubbling idiot and actually see the writing in the wall, Gamepass "might" be a good deal for the customer but at the end road on a bigger scheme it devalues the games, Microsoft just saw it from a services perspective and they can't understand that most of the games aren't services, so never would agree to put that shit on their console.
I'm no optimist so I don't think MS is bowing out of the console race. They'll probably be further embracing a role as a third party publisher, but Xbox will somehow still exist.
Not yet. But if they go mostly third-party (or at least enough to shake people's confidence on future exclusives), it will affect the hardware sales of their PS6-competing console, and then maybe then they'll decide to not make a competitor console to the PS7.
Some things will be going multiplat, some things won't, game pass will deemphasize the Xbox part to make the idea more clear that it's on multiple platforms and all you need is some kind of vector like a streaming stick and a way to control it and you can go and play Persona 3 or whatever on your samsung washing machine while waiting for your laundry to finish.
I think the idea that Xbox as a sort of pseudo-open OS that any company could us for like their handheld PCs or even just something that's like an unofficial Xbox Series X X with more juice behind it could be neat.
Xbox goes third party(not just also on PC but also on PS and Nintendo)
There won't be any 10th gen Xbox console
Xbox OS for Windows PCs. You can play Xbone/SX games on your PC including backwards compat titles from OG and 360 who never saw the light of day on PC.
going 3rd party is the only logical thing to do at this point because it they keep getting raped by sony while keeping all those bought IPs locked on a dead brand will get them nowhere.
Xbox actually beat Sony in revenue last year. Sony is selling lots of PS5s, but nobody is buying games and all of their big "system sellers" cost like $400 million to make.
Ah yes tiny ass company Microsoft doesn't have alternate streams of revenue to eat a $69 billion purchase
If MS was planning to go third party, why didn't they just say so 6 months ago when their ABK aquisition was on the verge of falling apart and being blocked by the government? Why were they fighting so hard for the 10 year COD contract with Sony just a couple of months ago? You really think a company like Microsoft makes such a massive change in direction for their divisions in such a short time frame? I mean, it could be possible, but it definitely doesn't seem likely at all.
guess we'll have to wait and see what uncle phil is gonna say in a few days. stay tuned.
So if MS is in fact not going third party, are all the gaming "insiders" and publications going to post retractions for their articles and twitter posts that were purely based on unsubstantiated rumors?
Retractions? Nah they'll just keep it up and then quietly stick right at the bottom "Update: this information was not correct" but let the information pollute Google summaries and other websites producing AI generated articles.

The PS5 doesn't even support backwards compatibility for its own PS3 and PS2 library, how exactly do you expect backwards compatibility to work on PS5 for older Xbox titles like Halo and Gears?
Stop releasing consoles and release pre built PCs under name of xbox and allow R18 and e-girlcon games simple as and release physical PC games. Should be open like any other PC with extra support for gaming.
Consoles are useless. No mods, sometimes not backward with previous console, paid online, forced first party accessories etc. PC eith physical games releases bypassing steam is future but xbox Black folk can't see it.
PC will never go back to physical games you dimwit. Steam got rid of that trend over a decade ago. Xbox already has backwards compatibility, only Playstation and Nintendo consoles lack backwards compatibility to previous console generations. The paid online is bullshit though, I agree with you on that one. No idea how they can still get away with that shit.
>Current XBox exclusives will go multiplatform >Collections or anthologies of older XBox games will also go multiplatform >Microsoft will become a publisher >XBox will be rebranded to just Microsoft or whatever they wanted to call their game publishing division >Reduction in hardware production with a focus on a digital-only console next console gen >That console will be marketed more as a "multiple media" device than an XBox >Existing Microsoft/XBox smart TV apps will be consolidates so all your Microsoft needs are in one place 🙂 >Bigger push for cloud streaming games as Xbox Cloud Gaming exits its beta phase >Gamepass will stick around but most likely change >Either a reduction in the library, switch to a rotating library, or limited play time to ultimately force players to buy full games >Gamepass will still be required for online gaming with anything through Microsoft's services >Cross-platform multipleplayer will be included in PS5 versions of previous XBox games
The last major holdout was Atlus and Persona. Now that they’ve gone multiplatform I see no reason to buy a Sony console anymore. Their exclusives this gen have been particularly boring.
Final fantasy is still kept hostage away from Xbox. I’ve wanted all the final fantasy games on Xbox forever but they never get ported. Only the shit ones or ones that are old that I’ve played a dozen times already.
yeah that's dumb as hell when even those are missing the system.

I bet it's because of Crisis Core Reunion. It was a remaster that was released on Xbox, and it flopped badly.

>deny fans the actual AAA title >release the prequel HD remaster >it flops
People don’t want to play crisis core remaster, they want 7 remake and final fantasy 16. It’s absolutely crazy how Sony fans are allowed to have all the games, and then say Xbox fans don’t REALLY want them, because they don’t buy the shit that DOES get released. Such bad faith argument.

MS would 100% fund an Xbox port if given the chance. I doubt Sony is letting them, or SE is asking for a stupid amount of money. Remember that FF7R was an EGS exclusive for a year, and the KH games are still exclusive there. I feel like SE is just greedy and expects MS to pay top dollar for ports, but I guess they weren't expecting MS to tell them to frick off and just hop to Sega.

microsoft had to pay for nier automata to be ported iirc, could just be that they didn't want to pay money for the pixel remasters because they thought they wouldn't do well.
Nope, I would have liked to have the classics anyway. I meant that all square Enix tried to put on Xbox were 13 and 15, the two worst games in the series. And some remasters. I like the remasters but the rest got ignored. And we especially don’t get final fantasy 7 remake. I have a ps5 but I don’t buy stuff on it out of spite usually, and I might get 7 rebirth used to ensure neither company gets money from me for it.
Microsoft could easily get them on Xbox. They just won't pay, and whenever they do port FF, they sell less or poorly. Seems like most Xbox fans don't care
That always the excuse, but only shit games are ported. >no 7 remake >no 14 for 10 years >no pixel remasters
You can’t build a fan base with only 13 and 14, and it’s dishonest to say Xbox doesn’t get sales when they don’t get the good games that promote them.
Crisis Core Reunion was put on Xbox. It's a prequel to OG FF7, which is on Xbox. Xbox users didn't buy it. This was also likely a test by Square to see if Xbox users would by anything FF related.

Again, that’s a dishonest and unfair argument. Put the games people want to play on the platform to get the sales. You don’t put shit on it and then use that as a claim to deny other games. But that’s what Sony fans keep using as an argument. It isn’t realistic, and consumers deserve better.

Sony is the defacto video game space for Square Enix though since they pay Square Enix tons of money to not release on other platforms for a year or two
If anything, Sony holding FF hostage has been made Persona more successful. MS has been pumping tons of money into Sega, and it has been beneficial for them. Persona 3 was released on gamepass Day One, and it still managed to be Atlus best fastest selling game of all time. Even if FF7R2 sells more than Persona 3, it most likely will, I doubt it will be as successful as P3R.
I really appreciate getting persona on Xbox. They are great games and I’m glad they are on other platforms. Unfortunately I’m playing 3 reload on gamepass, and will probably buy it on steam since Xbox is about to go kaput.
I think ESL anon might have meant 'build' not 'create'.
He probably means like a windows version of the steam deck. As in, not an xbox deck.
Problem with that is I doubt they wouldn't force the windows app store along with it.
Im not an Applegay (only owned one Apple product in my life) but Jobs was right

Going "third party" right as it finishes its biggest acquisition in history? What are you people thinking believing these rumors and not seeing through the veil of what's going on?
Are you all sheep or just bantering? I cant believe this shit sometimes.
>Going "third party" right as it finishes its biggest acquisition in history?
It's not over yet, the FTC is still trying to fight the merger. That's the key piece of information that you're missing. >“Microsoft reportedly has stated that the layoffs were part of an ‘execution plan’ that would reduce ‘areas of overlap’ between Microsoft and Activision, which is inconsistent with Microsoft’s suggestion to this Court that the two companies will operate independently post-merger.” >“Moreover, the reported elimination of thousands of jobs undermines the FTC’s ability to order effective relief should the pending administrative proceeding result in a determination that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision violated Section 7 of the Clayton Act.”
Man.... If something has to be said is that Xbox has brought us some of the most entertaining moments of the last few years, the Xbox gays coper these days will be glorious.
My friends are freaking out that Xbox is dying and they don't even play Xbox and are pissy about the prospect of a PC future in general when I told them Xbox's death only means Sony has free reign to be ass moronic as they want. Normalgays can't comprehend playing shit on a computer even when I tell them they can get wireless mouse and keyboard and just hook a PC to the TV because it "wouldn't be the same." I'm looking forward to the next few console generations if only, hopefully, it will finally weed out room temp IQ normalgays.
I mean yeah that is true, but the common consumer has become too adverse to the concept of troubleshooting any kind of problem because of how simple companies make stuff like phones and consoles. Anything that requires more than two steps to fix seems like an alien concept to people. They just get irrationally angry and have no patience. Or at the very least my friends do when some doesn't go right the first or second go round when most issues can be fixed with patience.

unlock Xbox hardware for windows
They should have did that in the first place. They went half way with "dev mode".
That would make more sense, tbh. Just turn it into a subsidized poorgay windows PC.
>unlock Xbox hardware for windows
T. I am involved.
but what about the current xbox series consoles? Would we be able to use windows there? That might convince me not to sell this piece of crap
Xbox is going to be a separate platform from Windows, it won't be able to run Windows games but the plan is to open it for third-party stores and encourage the developers to focus for developing for Xbox instead of Windows (even if they would be selling through Steam if Valve ever bothered).
what about the games?
Almost every significant multiplatform game is released on Xbox anyway, it's just there's no point of purchasing Xbox for multiplats alone.
it's still a nice platform to play on, console convenience, play anywhere, gamepass, they don't delete your cloud saves, you can play the same savegames on pc and even export them if you decide to buy the steam version of a game.
I mean yeah, I know. It's just that there's very little incentive to spend money on Xbox if you already have a PC or PS5. Xbox is great if it's your only console.
that's an interesting idea. microsoft invested a lot into anti-piracy measures and by all accounts they're the leader at it.
a locked down xbox distro you can run on any pc hardware could be enticing for third party publishers.
they already have windows store which no one can crack. Dunno what's that anon is talking about
>Xbox and Windows cross-purchase is very unpopular among end-users
>Like....how? You own fricking windows!
You answered your own question.

We already know both xbox 720 and ps6 will be digital only. A disc drive for old games will be available separately. Nintendo will keep physical as it works well with tiny carts for their handheld. For now.
>PS6 will be digital
Absolutely not. Why would Sony abandon their own format? They made Bluray. Physical isn't dead on PS either.

Cant do that if they know their digital games will be worthless.
>hey son i got you that xbox you always wanted for your birthday!
The complete death of the xbox brand the birth of Games For Windows 2.
>Games For Windows 2
NOOOOO PHIL SAMA I APOLOGIZE FOR EVERYTHING BRING XBOX BACK
hope it debuts on the next GTA so we come full circle
>the birth of Games For Windows 2
bullshit. it will be Games For Windows One
OneOne, actually.
Get it?
>Games For Windows 2
holy shit I now remember needing games for windows live for dark souls 1
I'm guessing they go digital only and start multiplatforming more stuff.
they will probably say that there will still be exclusives otherwise it wont fricking matter what they say because xbox will be over
Starfield will be a launch title on the switch 2.
Switch 2 - Plays Nintendo Games and Microsoft Games
Playstation 5 - Plays Sony Games and Microsoft Games
Xbox - Plays Microsoft Games and thats it
Why would anyone fricking buy an Xbox if its worse than the competition? Gamepass?
>Gamepass?
That and a few backward compatible games if don't want to bother with emulation/don't have PC.
> Hell, they might even add an official Xbox/360 emulator to PC
no way they will, the last thing they want is someone cracking their software again
> I live in EU and most normalgays buy Playstations because Sony advertises 24/7, everywhere
seeing all the posters for Black person-man is just making me hate sony more
Playstation is official CL sponsor, you can't get more advertising than that on EU, that's why EU is Sonyland
Most cod players don't play the single player.
wait really? thats pretty moronic
>This doesn't include access to online.
It does.
It doesn't
That's also not including any lootboxes or battle passes or whatever cod does now.
Gamepass doesn’t lose them money. Love this cope. You can tell the most greasy unwashed Snoy Black personlover typed it.
If you think that Gamepass is making them money you are on crack, they might get away with first party stuff but do you think that the 3rd party stuff (AKA the stuff that is actually worth playing) comes from free?
hey as long as we get to play em
i would never have played and enjoyed lies of pee if it weren’t for philpass
Same here. The XBL/Game Pass ecosystem is markedly better than what Sony has and I prefer the X/S hardware design to the goofy PS5.
I don't want to play Sony games
>PS5
>Games
I don't think you quite understand just how stupid corporate America is. Any success is by accident or blind loyalty.
>Xbox - Plays Microsoft Games and thats it
I bought an Xbone in VCR in 2020 for 40 dollars + controller, because I wanted to play Rare Replay and the best version of RDR.
>Xbone in VCR in 2020
Xbone VCR in 2020*
>Xbox - Plays Microsoft Games and thats it
The business update is that it will also now play Windows games, including Sony games, lol.
PC - Plays everything
Why would anyone fricking buy a console
>Plays everything
*Plays a shitty broken half-assed port of everything
at better framerates and resolution, with mod support
>at better framerates and resolution, with mod support
These are things 99.99% of people don't give the slightest shit about, under 20 demographics is small and has no money, and the demographics with actual money (30+) is too busy taking care of children and moving their lawn to care whether they can see individual pixels on their 85" TV from across the room.
I have a theory that PC ports being criminally bad is intentional so that people wouldn't want to pirate them and instead purchase them on consoles "the way they're meant to be played".
For the exclusives that are not on PC, and for the timed-exclusives you don't want to wait for. Also in some cases, not getting a shitty PC port.
Do you seriously not see the difference?
If they do implement Windows into the NextBox it would be:
>Xbox - Plays Microsoft and Steam games
Gamepass on steam and you can't get banned for saying Black person
200M xboxs sold
Todd Howard and Phil Spencer will be executed live on stream
They had the entire PC market for years and did nothing with it until it was far, far, far too late
kek.
I love valve for pushing troonux. frick microsoft
>Wants less choice in the market
Enjoy your $100 games
>Wants less choice in the market
Where did I say that?
>remember that Activision told Xbox to give them a 80/20 split or they would stop putting CoD on Xbox
>Nintendo will be the last hold out but they'll eventually run into trouble competing with Steam Deck
Is the competition with Steam Deck in the room with us right now?
we all know nintendo will keep doing it's think but if sony becomes the only option available in the market they will absolutely israelite out to the extreme
Microsoft rewards merge with xbox pass for $5
Conspiracy take:
>Microsoft and Phil knew this was going to happen years ago
>every single other product Microsoft has already or is in the process of being turned into a subscription service
>MS won't compete with Steam directly with Game Pass, they'll literally just turn the next version of Windows into a paid subscription and bundle shit like Game Pass and MS Word with it
The console market is in decline.
It won't be next generation but Nintendo is out of gimmicks after the Switch 2, they're only option is to keep doing more Switch consoles and they can't win that battle long term.
microsoft higher ups and investors have been trying to kill the xbox since before the xbone was even announced
Kinda moronic what other platform are they gonna get a 100% revenue split on?
spending nothing to have a 70% share of the sales in a huge market is better than spending literal hubdreds of billions to have a 100% share of a nonexistant market
paying 30% to access 100 million users is far cheaper than spending billions to get 100% of a few million users. Look at Steam vs EGS.
>run into trouble competing with Steam Deck
A steam CONSOLE*
I bought a Steam Deck because most of their exclusive stuff was just gonna be on steam anyway. Literally play Palworld at work on breaks.
>Microsoft is spooked
>Somehow this affects Nintendo despite not being any competition for them in any way
>. Nintendo will be the last hold out but they'll eventually run into trouble competing with Steam Deck and 3rd party Decks
PC tards are so detached from reality that they think that Deck and its clones are competing with Switch.
>Nintendo will eventually go 3rd party too
anon nintendo can go through multiple wiiu situations in a row without going out of business
Going third party =/= going out of business.
going third party would be a necessity only if they were going out of business. for a company there's no reason to compromise console sales, that they make money on, unless you're in dire need of fast cash
I'd say it worked pretty well seeing the software sales of the switch
>The Switch when it launched was a very novel concept that nobody else had done and had worked successfully
UMPCs were a thing before the switch anon
>UMPCs were a thing before the switch anon
You can't compare UMPCs to the Switch, different markets and audiences. That's like me saying UMPCs are not original when PDAs did it before them. The new mobile consoles and Steam Deck-likes will all be competing for the same market they will all have the same 3rd part games. Will Nintendo exclusives alone be enough to justify themselves to normal people to buy the exact same device twice? Who knows.
>The new mobile consoles
handheld platforms will never be able to go for graphics as aggressively as non handhelds will anon. do you think companies will lose their most marketable points for the novelty of being handheld? at best you'll get the playstation portal 2
>Steam Deck-likes
the deck and its clones are UMPCs
> Will Nintendo exclusives alone be enough to justify themselves to normal people to buy the exact same device twice?
going by the switch's hardware and software sales? absolutely. that's basically all nintendo is doing these days, investing into themselves and their games to not depend on thrid parties
Sony tried to out-hardware Nintendo in the handheld space and got BTFO'd so hard they left the industry. People who play games want more than muh grafx and muh turd party.
Nintendo goes third party
TES VI news
I genuinely have no idea what they're going for but as an Xbox owner it can either be absolutely irrelevant or good.
I refuse to believe fir a second these dumb rumours like new games won't be on the pass anymore
They didn't reach their market goals and now Satya is pissed, downscaling and layoffs incoming, this is legit the death of Xbox, literally.
xXx Xbox xXx Seriex X S/X3
>OMG we didn't meet 1 year old "market goals"
>le sutya nutella is gonna kill xbox!
Its like Snoys are sensing this is the last opportunity to doompost and cope about xbox since
I want to believe but I can't anymore. Even if they would somehow backtrack on everything - which they won't - I had enough.
>The troony awards
A big nothing. Wargays will blow it up, but it will ultimately amount to nothing. Everybody goes about their business like nothing ever happened.
Is there a date yet or is it still "this week"?
>Goypass killed Xbox
You love to see it.
Xbox is dead and they died because of their shareholders wanting to their their ROI because they spent billions to acquire ABK.
xbox is dead because microsoft board has been aggressively wanting to focus on software-only business since the XBone.
Well it makes sense why they want to focus on software. Releasing Xbox games on multiple platform really fits the gamepass business model.
>Nintendo wins by doing absolutely nothing
>blow over 70bil on some trash studios
>close shop
snoy logic
They'd still make a shit ton of money by being a 3rd-party publisher and owning ABK games. It's just a question of if that makes them more money than also investing resources and costs in their third-place hardware business.
>business update
>not a showcase or direct
It's so over for xbox
At minimum, I imagine they'll talk about how they're no longer doing physical games. Since they've been pulling them from shelves everywhere.
Google I mean Amazon I mean Facebook I mean Microsoft will never entirely shut down their gaming divisions.
They're going to release their games on other consoles 6-12 months after pc and xbox
This week
I'm tired.
Do you like or dislike Gamepass?
No bait or anything I’m just interested in hearing what an xbox only andy thinks of it firsthand.
Ofc, I just mentioned sunk cost on my end since I’m a pretty new adopter into the ecosystem, aside from retaining a few xbox 360 games I bought digitally thirteen years ago.
does series s hurting the industry even matter when everything is still being ported to ps4? And all games run like shit on ps5 and series x regardless
nta, but I feel like the Series S's existence is a contributing factor to why we still are getting PS4 ports. If they have to make a cutback version of the game anyways for Series S, might as well add a PS4 version to that.
Series S is not hurting the industry at all.
It is in fact a good brake check for shitty optimization and gamers all benefit from it.
You have no idea how bad things are in game dev nowadays.
>hurt gaming for this gen due to the series S
Remind me how exactly does FF16 run as a PS exclusive?
I don't think bringing up a poorly optimized exclusive is a counterpoint. The issue is when devs need to scale back their vision to make a game workable on the series S.
>The issue is when devs need to scale back their vision to make a game workable on the series S.
Series S is still more powerful than the predominant PC setup according to Steam HW survey. Scapegoating poor series S is a moron talk.
>The issue is when devs need to scale back their vision to make a game workable on the series S.
so then why games run like crap on series x and ps5 if their vision is scaled back? Your point doesn't make sense
If they run like crap, they are either poorly optimized or the vision overshot what the console allows. We are talking about cases where a dev wants to do something in their game that a Series X can handle, but have to scrap it or cut it back because they need to get the game running on the Series S.
and the cases like this are?????
That hotplate is a piece of shit that is holding back everything
yeah yeah that's all you gonna say. Again then why isn't running like a champ on ps5? How is it series s fault?
To be frank splitscreen in BG3 is a mess and can bring even quite powerful PCs to their knees
If you played baldurs gate 3 splitscreen you would now that blocking it off is a good thing. If any journo had of tried to play that on ps5 in splitscreen it would have been rated a 2/10 so fricking buggy game that never works and runs terribly. It isn't actually ready for anybody.
Provide 1 (one) example
Usually decreasing the resolution and disabling ray tracing is enough to bring the performance to parity, no need to disable game features lol
I don't want to switch platforms this gen, but MS could kill support way before it ends.
your cheevos won't go away, they're on windows already anyway, it should be trivial for ms to allow you to play your digital xbox library too
windows have like 10% of all xbox library, It's not comparable
Not the same, I would give up on achievements/trophies outside xbox.
Uses proprietary Microsoft technology to track your exact location and take 4k video of you and your surroundings at all times to send back to Microsoft's database.
bros… w-will fable ever release…?
Post it.
So the big question is - will Microsoft get game pass on ps5 or switch?
100% on Switch, they have a good relationship with Nintendo.
I highly doubt it. The platform holders wouldn't accept it (at least not without big concessions from Microsoft on who gets what share of the money).
Only if it's some neutered version containing only Xbox exclusives.
they can only offer a microsoft-only version of gamepass on other platforms and they'd have to port their entire catalog to make it worthwhile.
how much would people on ps or switch be willing to pay for that?
So, do people expect it to be near the end of the week?
Yea. If it's something really drastic, they'll probably announce it on Friday so that it won't affect stocks that much.
are we seriously never going to know when the business update is supposed to happen
there's people unironically running to gamestop to sell their xboxes
how long are they going to make us wait?
>there's people unironically running to gamestop to sell their xboxes
Good on them for doing so before the sell value of the console drops.
it already did cause they all went in at once. Series S sells lower than switch, series x in 200~ range
It's doing fine.
>this week
>no date nor link
o boy, they are going to announce announcements for weeks now
You shitposting fake Xbox fans need to frick off. Buy an xbox or suck a Black person dick. This entire situation is your fault.
Feels conspicuous that they're still not putting a date on it. Like they're still flailing and trying to figure out what to say
>Nintendo "Direct"
>Sony "State of Play"
>Xbox "Business Update Event"
We knew this already. What day is going to be on?
Friday at 11:59 PM PST.
>Gabe roll on stage
>so... we are pleased to announce......
>Half Life Combat Evolved 2!
>every indians in stage start shitting
>Gabe roll on stage
Damn, so Gabe finally bought Sonic team.
Bloodborne finally coming to xbox!!
Phil Spencer Budd Dwyer's himself live on stream.
Halo is going multiplat.
Big if true.
It's already on Windows
Playstation soon.
Maybe even Nintendo.
a Nintendo DS version was supposed to be a thing.
ugh... what could have been
Same with Silent Hill
Crossplay MCC pls I wanna gank sonybros in Halo 3
Bigger. Gamepass is replacing the Xbox and will be offered on competing platforms.
Nintendo and Sony wouldn't accept the offer.
>accept
Why don't you take a look at what the EU is forcing apple to do with iOS right now. They are going to be forced to spread their cheeks and not just allow gamepass, but an entire third party xbox store they can't skim off the top from.
Nintendo unlike Microsoft isn't a bubbling idiot and actually see the writing in the wall, Gamepass "might" be a good deal for the customer but at the end road on a bigger scheme it devalues the games, Microsoft just saw it from a services perspective and they can't understand that most of the games aren't services, so never would agree to put that shit on their console.
What time is it
Phil just gonna tweet "Goodbye"
when you look from your phone to the TV, your Xbox will just be gone
then you look back at your phone, and you'll see the twitter account never existed
>*cough, cough* dudebros... I don't feel so good, pls ... launch ... call of duty... doritos...*cough*
>starfield was all an illusion spell cast by a elder scrolls mage
Another nothing burger
New Halo but it’ll be on Playstation as well as Xbox.
>New Halo but it’ll be on Playstation as well as Xbox.
>Snoys: "343 good now"
No one cares about nu-Halo. It's Halo 1-3 & Reach that people want.
Bioshock 4 reveal + Gears of War movie.
Apple bought Xbox
Xbox Pro Series will have three models to choose from.
Steam for Xbox + Half Life 3
going 3rd party is the only logical thing to do at this point because it they keep getting raped by sony while keeping all those bought IPs locked on a dead brand will get them nowhere.
Xbox actually beat Sony in revenue last year. Sony is selling lots of PS5s, but nobody is buying games and all of their big "system sellers" cost like $400 million to make.
they need to recuperate $69 billion and going 3rd party is the least risky path forward
why would they be so desperate to recuperate that though? MS has had a record year in 2023 and aren't at all short on cashflow.
guess we'll have to wait and see what uncle phil is gonna say in a few days. stay tuned.
You're a homosexual. Stop making these threads
Ah yes tiny ass company Microsoft doesn't have alternate streams of revenue to eat a $69 billion purchase
So if MS is in fact not going third party, are all the gaming "insiders" and publications going to post retractions for their articles and twitter posts that were purely based on unsubstantiated rumors?
Retractions? Nah they'll just keep it up and then quietly stick right at the bottom "Update: this information was not correct" but let the information pollute Google summaries and other websites producing AI generated articles.
if this was in fact lies then xbox PR team would debunk it immediately but guess what, they're dead silent
I mean, it could be possible, but it definitely doesn't seem likely at all.
>responding to rumors
This is why you are poor.
Halo, Gears of Wars, Hi-Fi Rush and Senua's Saga: Hellblade II on the PS5
The PS5 doesn't even support backwards compatibility for its own PS3 and PS2 library, how exactly do you expect backwards compatibility to work on PS5 for older Xbox titles like Halo and Gears?
It's called a port anon. Backwards compatibility has nothing to do with those games.
They're going to be vague about going 3rd party. Hi Fi Rush will be the only game they talk about.
Engineering covid was too expensive, prease understando
MAJOR direction shift. Can’t say more.
Watch it be fricking nothing.
My dad works for nintendo. he said Todd Howard is replacing Phil Spencer as the Head Xbox.

most pc gamers look like henry cavill while most console gamers look like rupaul.
most PC gamers are fat neckbeards or pencilneck losers that look like Asmongold. Console chads are the jocks that bullied you in highschool.
Stop releasing consoles and release pre built PCs under name of xbox and allow R18 and e-girlcon games simple as and release physical PC games. Should be open like any other PC with extra support for gaming.
no thank you, I don't want my console games to be rampant with eastern european cheaters.
Isn't Playstation expected to maintain BC now since they are using a more normal framework rather than that bizarre Cell architecture the PS3 used?
xbox does case on case emulation. Not like sony couldn't done the same, they just didn't want to bother
Buy Pocketpair & it'll be ruined forever
Do we know what time it is? Will it be streamed?
>Current XBox exclusives will go multiplatform
>Collections or anthologies of older XBox games will also go multiplatform
>Microsoft will become a publisher
>XBox will be rebranded to just Microsoft or whatever they wanted to call their game publishing division
>Reduction in hardware production with a focus on a digital-only console next console gen
>That console will be marketed more as a "multiple media" device than an XBox
>Existing Microsoft/XBox smart TV apps will be consolidates so all your Microsoft needs are in one place 🙂
>Bigger push for cloud streaming games as Xbox Cloud Gaming exits its beta phase
>Gamepass will stick around but most likely change
>Either a reduction in the library, switch to a rotating library, or limited play time to ultimately force players to buy full games
>Gamepass will still be required for online gaming with anything through Microsoft's services
>Cross-platform multipleplayer will be included in PS5 versions of previous XBox games

Gee thanks Geoff!
How would Geoff know? He's just repeating what Phil's tweet said.
>Repeating info for the sake of muh engagement
Why wouldn't TGA host have insider info? He very likely plays inside ball with the likes of Phil so why wouldn't he have access to extra info?
Even if he did, why would he sabotage that relationship by revealing information early?
That's not what I am getting at. Would it not be more useful for him to reveal something new and useful on Xbox's behalf rather than regurgitate info?
No, because clearly Xbox doesn't want that information revealed yet, because if they did, they would have done it themselves.
He isn't a fricking Xbox employee you mong. He doesn't care about being useful to Xbox.
Nothing.
Xbox has consistently been the best console every generation since they entered the race but homosexual weebs shit on it
shouldn't you be playing madden, cod, or gta right now?
You must be thinking of snoys. I was playing splinter cell, butcher bay, fable 1&2, halo series, blue dragon, SR1
blue dragon is a weeb game you mook and not even one of the good ones on 360 where vesperia and nier were timed exclusives
It’s not a weeb game it’s just a Japanese rpg
it's a weeb game. the 360 itself was the weeb system that generation, it's where people were playing shit like blazblue.
> Only the shit ones or ones that are old that I’ve played a dozen times already.
it didn't even get the pixel remasters though, did it?
No. It's on PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC.
yeah that's dumb as hell when even those are missing the system.
I bet it's because of Crisis Core Reunion. It was a remaster that was released on Xbox, and it flopped badly.
>deny fans the actual AAA title
>release the prequel HD remaster
>it flops
People don’t want to play crisis core remaster, they want 7 remake and final fantasy 16. It’s absolutely crazy how Sony fans are allowed to have all the games, and then say Xbox fans don’t REALLY want them, because they don’t buy the shit that DOES get released. Such bad faith argument.
Square isn't gonna risk porting a big AAA game to a console when Microsoft has conditioned its users to "wait till it drops on GP."
Given the latest news KH is going to be EGS exclusive PERIOD.
During the FTC case for Activision, MS said that Sony completely blocked MS from even negotiating getting FF on Xbox. Sony, strong-arm 3rd parties into ignoring Xbox because they know they have to sell on PS. The problem with that now is that PS sales can no longer suffice, and SE games are flopping hard.
microsoft had to pay for nier automata to be ported iirc, could just be that they didn't want to pay money for the pixel remasters because they thought they wouldn't do well.
That always the excuse, but only shit games are ported.
>no 7 remake
>no 14 for 10 years
>no pixel remasters
You can’t build a fan base with only 13 and 14, and it’s dishonest to say Xbox doesn’t get sales when they don’t get the good games that promote them.
>with only 13 and 15* the two worst games in the series
Crisis Core Reunion was put on Xbox. It's a prequel to OG FF7, which is on Xbox. Xbox users didn't buy it. This was also likely a test by Square to see if Xbox users would by anything FF related.
Again, that’s a dishonest and unfair argument. Put the games people want to play on the platform to get the sales. You don’t put shit on it and then use that as a claim to deny other games. But that’s what Sony fans keep using as an argument. It isn’t realistic, and consumers deserve better.
Why would they risk burning money like that? Square and other companies ignore it because they don't see it as a worthwhile investment. It's up to Microsoft to make Xbox more attractive.
See
“Risking money”. It ain’t risking money, it’s deliberately starving an audience and keeping one from being built on a competing platform
It could be avoided if Microsoft just paid them and got the games on Xbox like what
said. Microsoft obviously doesn't care enough to get them ported.
Let's rephrase this argument
>Square isnt going to risk porting a big AAA game like Kingdom hearts to Steam when they conditioned their users to "buy it on steam sale"
>Square and other companies ignore steam for day 1 releases because they dont see it as a worthwhile investment. It's up to valve to make steam more attractive by paying them for the port
Do you know how silly your argument sounds?
Not him but I think that's the exact logic SE uses for why they don't port to PC day 1 in addition to the Sonybux they get paid of course.
Yeah at the end of the day, screw SE. Who gives a shit about them screwing up their PC and Xbox fanbase for Sony money that's drying up.
I mean, skipping Xbox isn't new or anything. Even small guys like Falcom do it.
Steam is already attractive and is the defacto pc platform space. Xbox has no advantage.
Unfortunately I’m playing 3 reload on gamepass, and will probably buy it on steam since Xbox is about to go kaput.
zoomers would never buy anything as cringeworthy named as "xbox"
that's pure millennial grandpa lingo.
JUST CREATE A GAMING PC WITH WINDOWS, FRICKING IDIOTS
What?
But that’s literally what pcs are
I think ESL anon might have meant 'build' not 'create'.
He probably means like a windows version of the steam deck. As in, not an xbox deck.
Problem with that is I doubt they wouldn't force the windows app store along with it.
They'll get rid of Xbox hardware in favor of 'Xbox certified' laptops and PCs. It'll be Steam Machines all over again and it'll be just as bad.
Im not an Applegay (only owned one Apple product in my life) but Jobs was right
Microsoft just translated their PC mentality into games and the result lays bare for everyone to see
The date is set Xbots
>they won't even show their faces
oh no...
THURSDAY'S THE DAY, BOYS
CRASHING THIS TRAIN WITH NO SURVIVORS
xbox finishes one of its biggest acquisitions in history and you idiots fall for the FUD
never change, morons
they're not going to say it outright, but they could not be on a stronger position when they put all of activision blizzard on gamepass
>all of activision blizzard on gamepass
So CoD and uh... CoD?
Lets not act as if Blizzard is still relevant
lol, "only CoD"?
do you have any idea what blow this is to consoles competing?
And if you can play WoW on a gamepass subscription the game is OVER.
Xbox won, these "rumors" that came out conveniently before this convenient show or whatever it is they're having is just to pull people in.
Deep down everybody knows microsoft has unlimited money, they don't fricking care.
>“Microsoft reportedly has stated that the layoffs were part of an ‘execution plan’ that would reduce ‘areas of overlap’ between Microsoft and Activision, which is inconsistent with Microsoft’s suggestion to this Court that the two companies will operate independently post-merger.”
>“Moreover, the reported elimination of thousands of jobs undermines the FTC’s ability to order effective relief should the pending administrative proceeding result in a determination that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision violated Section 7 of the Clayton Act.”
Two more weeks Sonybros, the FTC will save us fr
King makes more money than CoD and Blizzard alone.
Last 3 days of coping before the next few weeks of seething
Man.... If something has to be said is that Xbox has brought us some of the most entertaining moments of the last few years, the Xbox gays coper these days will be glorious.
>Business Update
WTF
Are you telling they bought all those studios just to kill the hardware? I thought that was meant to make the hardware more successful.
They want to focus on Gamepass as a digital service. Microsoft was never in this to sell hardware
How can gamepass do well when the console isn't doing well? Most gamepass users are on Xbox. If Xbox doesn't grow neither can Gamepass.
Theyll try to put Gamepass everywhere is my guess
I can't see Sony or Nintendo allowing it.
Sony would have to when CoD becomes Gamepass only
Is CoD even on Gamepass rn?
My friends are freaking out that Xbox is dying and they don't even play Xbox and are pissy about the prospect of a PC future in general when I told them Xbox's death only means Sony has free reign to be ass moronic as they want. Normalgays can't comprehend playing shit on a computer even when I tell them they can get wireless mouse and keyboard and just hook a PC to the TV because it "wouldn't be the same." I'm looking forward to the next few console generations if only, hopefully, it will finally weed out room temp IQ normalgays.
Your normie friends aren't exactly wrong. PC involves constant troubleshooting and setting tweaks for games. A console does "just work"
I mean yeah that is true, but the common consumer has become too adverse to the concept of troubleshooting any kind of problem because of how simple companies make stuff like phones and consoles. Anything that requires more than two steps to fix seems like an alien concept to people. They just get irrationally angry and have no patience. Or at the very least my friends do when some doesn't go right the first or second go round when most issues can be fixed with patience.
I agree 100%, but its the continuing dumbing down of everything unfortunately, same as the meme about zoomies not knowing how file systems work because its all streamlined for them on phones. That said this is a reason why there will always be a home console, even if they just become stream boxes
This!
Plus the virus, and the bugs, and the update that need to be made every 6 months, plus the online subscriptions and all that shit...
Tbf Microsoft wasn't really doing anything to challenge Sony these past 2 generations. The management of Xbox has been a disaster.
I STILL BELIEVE IN THE MICROSOFT BLIZZARD RENAISSANCE
How do you even let Alan Wake 2 slip away?
