You're trying to split the indicators from 2's art icons to make it seem like they don't count, when they do the same thing. Using the same criticism you have of 2's arts on 1, there's no difference between backslash or slit edge since they both use sword icons. Gale Slash and Worldy Slash are the same, both sword icons. Hammer Beat, Sword Drive, and Lariat all say the same thing since they're all sword icons. The only reason I would know of any secondary effects an art may have (which 1 sometimes does not indicate for arts) is from a messy second icon on top of the art. The arts in the driver combo not indicating if they are physical or ether based is bad, but the only instances I can see at a quick glance of an ether based break art is on the ether cannon, where all attacks scale off of ether anyway and Nia's bitball break art, which does indicate it's an AoE.
My point isn't purely about how much is being communicated but HOW it's communicated. Using two icons when previous entries successfully used one is silly. If you didn't want the player to have to read art descriptions, you would find a way to make the secondary icons more descriptive. A fully-open eye for more aggro and a half-shut eye for less aggro, an individual icon for each enemy type.
It adds up to attacks that still only half communicate their function visually, but now do it in a way that looks objectively messier.

Can you tell me what this art does? 1 was able to get information across using only one secondary icon (for some arts only, Final Cross has no indication that it's AoE and requires very high tension), but X was all over the place with what the art icons told you because there were so many arts. Without looking up what the art's effect is, all I can tell from this is that it's an art tied to a melee weapon.
Okay, fair enough, so it was just 1. I still liked it better than 2's bullshit. And at least X goes all the way with giving every art its own icon. 2 is an unhappy medium: Messy icons that communicate a little more about an art than 1's, but not everything, so you've still got to read anyway.

Not even, some orange arts are tied to ranged weapons, like the topple art on the assault riffle. If you simply use the color and design of an art icon to judge its effect in 1 you're going to have a nice day using Battle Soul thinking it'll heal you, wonder why you can never use Thunder when you want to and why Demon Slayer never Topples

It depends, the art system is pretty simple, and for chain attacks you manually activate it if you have ai party members, or assign a leader to activate the chain attack in a party raid. It would need a really compelling world and story in order to keep players invested, as there’s only so many types of classes you can create before they get repetitive.
I wouldn't trust a franchise's mmorpg after the mess that was Phantasy Star's multiple MMOs and again with ESO.

It was Norihiko Takami, who was also art director for X. Art director =/= character designer. There’s still choices made about the art that don’t pertain to character designs (palettes, environments, equipment, enemies, etc).
I've played Final Fantasy XIV and XI (in that order), XIV bored me to sleep (literally, but that might have been the depression I was going through at the time and I heard it gets better after ARR). But I find FFXI more stimulating as a game, both storywise and exploration-wise.
As for Phantasy Star, PSO was good and I have fond memories of PSPo2, but from what I've heard most of the problems come from TERRIBLE management by the western teams. I could never get into PSO2 though.
I think being single-player allows it to avoid all the trash that comes with MMOs.

what does the in-game modelling and memory limitations have to do with the character designs themselves? the only flaw in the original character designs (art) are the faces, which often oddly have eyes/noses too big for their facial structure. this was fixed in the definitive edition art however which also kept the original character designs.

Heroes and Classes seem to be their synthesis of XB2's Blades (numerous in quantity, variety of kits and abilities, come with their own backstories and quests and voice acting) and XB1's Affinity System (Skill Link allows characters to use arts from other party members)
Between that and the revamped Chain Attack (which, itself, seems to be a fusion of XB1's Chain Attack approach and XB2's flashy Blade Specials), I'm feeling that even if the main story doesn't jive with some people, the gameplay will more than make up for it
The gameplay looks amazing. If monolith delivers on the story as well, we might actually have a masterpiece on our hands. You can already see the connections between the story and gameplay as well.

Honestly when I do use him, it's as a combination of Sharla/Melia. A character that applies dots and can heal decently well and not take those two slots up.

Different anon and this is a bit of a different situation but I believe it may work. When Dragon Quest VII and VIII were announced for the 3ds we were told repeatedly that there were no plans for a Western release. So what the fans did was send a frick ton of physical letters to Square. This is noted as being the reason we got them. I forgot the guys name but he said everyday he'd go into work and he'd be brought a bag full of letters from the West asking for Dragon Quest VII and VIII.
They may not read all the letters but a vast quantity of letters being sold is something that will be noticed. Tell them what you think in a physical letter, get others to do it too and you'll see changes happening.

A lot of games are ready far earlier than the actual release date anon. I bet a lot of the games that got pushed back were done so due to metrics showing that sales will be higher at a later date.

XC3 would had started planning and development probably around the wrapping of Torna. I believe Takahashi said in his interview in regards to XCDE that he gave two plans to Nintendo that got approved around that time. One of them was obviously XCDE and the other we know now is XC3.

I don't really buy Takahashi saying he had everything planned out since Xenoblade 1 released. Since it calls into question what the hell was Xenoblade X initially supposed to be before he had to put in the avatar system and throw majority of the story he wrote for the game. I doubt he had Xenoblade 2 in mind when he made Xenoblade X.
I think Takahashi probably had a lot of ideas rolling around in his head after 1 released and decided to make X because he wanted to do something different and it's what he felt like doing at the time.
He still had the concepts of what would become 2 and 3 in store.
think he just wrote down a bunch of major points ie 2 worlds, 2 Zanza halves (which is technically a retcon, like Alvis's key turning into a core crystal) colliding, etc to build off. Details can be dealt with later during the development itself, kinda like how a lot of games built the final boss + super antagonist right out of the gate, then build the story up to there

The whole Alvis retcon and him not having to possibly know that he would one day redo Xenoblade 1 is what makes really think none of this was really planned as he said. He can only say this now only because Xenoblade 2 was an unexpected huge success that allows to do these big plans he may have been longing to do since Xenogears.
Alvis is not a retcon, the exact nature of Alvis was left up in the air by the end of XC1, all we knew was that he was the computer in charge of Klaus' experiment and that through the experiment itself he became whatever the hell he is, if anything XC2 was the game that got most restricted by this, since it was clearly part of the production from the start and is responsible for all the Blade stuff which is clearly designed to mirror the way Alvis flings the Monado at Shulk during the battle with the Telethia in Makna Forest, so Alvis being something akin to a Blade is not really a retcon given that:
1. Blades are modelled after Alvis, not the other way around.
2. Alvis' abilities are greatly heightened even compared to the other Aegises by the different laws of the dimension he exists in.
the problem with Alvis is that he just “exists”, no prio story for how he came to be, how did he end up becoming the high entia’s prophet for presumable quite a duration. Plus if we assume hes a blade then, whos his driver proper? If its Zanza, then is he the 1st blade being able to choose/betray his driver, aka makes Malos’s whole ordeal of being wrongly activated and cant choose his master bit kinda iffy. Granted Malos also drive another blade PLUS he got a last spurt of power even after his driver Amalthus kicked the bucket, so i guess Aegis are just way special
but then, how the frick did Shulk manifest his own blade, and where did Meyneth’s blade come from. 1 has a lot of questions unanswered going off 2’s system only, so im hoping 3 can shed some lights on that
As a product of existing in the immaginary number domain, the spiritual world, Alvis is everyone's Blade, he is an omniscient universal construct, all the Monados are a manifestation of this power and everyone within the B&M universe can manifest it (Shulk's Monado isn't only his, he manifests it from everyone's weapons), Alvis simply isn't aware of how these things tie to how Blades work in the real number domain, the real world, so he uses the name "god" to refer to those who master his power instead of the term "Driver" that is common in Alrest, but they ultimately mean the same thing in a technical sense.
As to why he has the form of a Homs, there are two possible explanation, either this is simply a false front so he can come and go as he pleases, or the ritual he describes to Shulk in which his family members touch the Monado to gain their powers is true but instead of just gaining precognition what actually happens is that those Homs get possessed by Ontos, so he's sort of a skin-crawling parasite and jumps from body to body so he can have a physical form.
the last 6 months in a dev cycle is mostly just fine tuning, optimization and sometimes texture cleaning/VA editing work, so guess they felt its good enough to release at this state
also very likely they move the release forward cus the later quarter of the years has big games incoming for the switch (p5r, splatoon 3, etc) so they dont want to crowd out too much
