Final Fantasy XV actually, it's when the shift from "FF is the best" completely died to talk about other RPGs. XVI is just that the magic is never coming back, it just gets worse.
this ffxv did irreparably damage to the franchise. FFXIV barely brought it back from the dead by killing wow. It's ok though I was saying that xenoblade is the final fantasy of our time years ago already. It's a fantastic jrpg in every way. Just wish it was on pc instead with proper graphics but oh well. Soundtrack and plot are more important to me and it's a miracle the games run at all on the switch

This is laughably incorrect.
No one played Persona 3 on release, and worse of all it came out the same year as a mainline Final Fantasy game that would go on to be the 9th best-selling PS2 game of all time.
If you wanna argue about a shift from FF to Persona then P4 coming out in 2009, the same year as one of the most loathed FF entries, would be much more sensible, but even then I'd argue this didn't actually happen until Persona 5 came out.
There's a reason people say the 7th gen was a "JRPG drought" and it's mostly because of how hard Final Fantasy was shitting the bed during that time, that should tell you enough about how strong the brand still was at that point that one series doing bad meant the whole genre was doing bad, despite it not being all that accurate and the 7th gen still having a pretty good number of quality JRPGs.

P5 didn’t get compared much to XB2 because the games did not release close to one another and because P5 is not like XB2 at all in terms of gameplay focus. Xenoblade has more in common with Final Fantasy in that respect, which is where the comparisons come from.

All 3 Xenoblade games were movies with a shitload of sidequests but it's ok when Nintendo does it.
Funny because not a single Xenoblade game has more hours of cutscenes than FFXVI, despite the Xeno games having double the length of playtime.
