a remake comes with the expectation of disc 2 being finished and that's never going to happen considering how batshit it gets but leaving the chair scenes and powerpoint slides intact will look really awkward in 2023

I don't care why people say this. Disk 2 does not get that wild. There's the launching the thing into the sky part, where Elly and Emeralda and Citan Go to Zeboim facility. There's the last ditch effort to assault by Solaris. There's finding the two animalic dungeons, but that's just going to be conversations and going from place to place like a lot of the early parts of the game are. There's going to be ethos and all the refugees, that leads up to that one fight with the amalgamation... Homunculus monster thing. And then they'd expand on the attack on Merkava . And that's like it. That's not any wilder than disc one.
Two biggest cut things to be restored would be the additional two omnigears for Maria and Emeralda, which had designs but were never worked into the game.

This would require a much larger rework, because all 12 Anima are already accounted for, and in various points in the game emeralda's anima alignment is explicitly zero, and Maria's is miles lower than the other party members. It's hard to believe they were ever supposed to be anima attunemed.

I’m not a Star Ocean fan, but seeing the remake today got me excited. Not only because it looks really cool, but because it shows that Square Enix is interested in remaking their PS1 RPGs in the HD2D style, rather than just SNES stuff as has been the case prior.
The visual style the SO2 remake is taking on is exactly how I would like a Xenogears remake to look should we get one down the line.
Preferably Square would let Monolith Soft get involved to help, but I don’t see that happening. At best they’ll get Mitsuda back to touch up the music

Xenogears remake is being made by Monolithsoft with Yasunori Mitsuda making the music. It'll be a launch title on the PS Vita 3D4K. Monolithsoft is moving to Sony.
