It's fun and interesting. But its just fricking weird. I think it'd be more popular if it was more straight forward. Even the fricking guns are weird.

      >Wee need monsters for this game, got any ideas
      >You know that weird "surprise monsters" toyline from last year? How about I slap some monsters from it on there.
      >Okay, which one?
      >I was thinking the one who's already dead?

Was Monster Party intended as a tie in to that toy series or just coincidence/reference?

Bandai made both Monster Party and that toyline. A lot of the monsters are random references or parodies.

I agree with the guy who said booba.

I love Bogleech and all that he is done for people into weird ass monsters from various media back in the day. He used to just be some random poster I think on some Pokémon forums back in the day, I have this vague memory of him talking about starting the website. It's awesome to see that that passion project became this beloved thing so many years later.

Truth. The music affects me more than anything popular too.

2 different genres of games jam packed into one, and the game doesn't do either of them well. The quintessential over-ambitious title that falls flat into mediocrity. I give them bonus points for trying to be different, so this game is a 6.5/10 for me

I don't remember anything about this game. The only thing i recall is it has annoying doors that take you back in the level, wasting your time.
If it was a "masterpiece" i think it would at least be more memorable.

They're both nothing compared to Xevious.

This game struck a chord with me as a kid so hard that I wound up making a Doom weaponset based off it, love its music.

My favourite tune too. It's the first nes game I emulated back in the day because I thought the name sounded cool.

I missed this somehow as a kid and played through it recently for the first time. It is not a masterpiece. It's weird, charming, and somewhat interesting. I wouldn't generally recommend it to people. It badly needs polish. Sometimes it's way too easy and sometimes it's annoyingly hard (in a tedious way). It felt to me like a prototype that somebody had messed around with for a long while in order to test various ideas, only to eventually find that it had grown large enough to release as an actual game even though it hadn't ever been intended to become that. (I don't think that's what happened or anything - that's just how it feels to me.)

One of the few NES games I have a mint copy of. I got it over 10 years ago from an independent used game store. I guess they did not differentiate between loose and complete games so I got it for 5 bucks. Had the little hang tag on it from where it probably hung on the rack at KB Toys. The cartridge itself still had the plastic wrap on it and it came with the manual, the NP ad and a cool Hudson Soft poster. Unfortunately it's a game nobody really cares about so I could only get about 100 bucks for it.

One of my older brothers borrowed Xexyz from a friend when I was a kid, and I thought it was amazing but couldn’t remember its name. Took me years to track it down since it has a difficult title and is difficult to describe.

I really loved the variety of weapons and tools at the time and that you could buy them from stores - it felt like some amazing hybrid of Mega Man and Zelda. And then when I was already amazed, a horizontal shooter stage!? I still love it, but when I finally played the whole thing, I was a bit disappointed to learn it’s basically just the first two stages repeating.
